Description of Work: We used The Glass Guru of Indy South for an estimate to repair the windows.

Description of Work: We took several large windows from our old brick home to their shop for rotten wood repair and one needed new glass. It just took a lot longer than we were told and we were trying to coordinate with a trim and window painting project we had going on at the house.

Description of Work: Repaired numerous windows. Went very well. Weather delays were not their fault.

Description of Work: Very nice person gave me an estimate but unfortunately his repair person will not be available after July 30 and first available opening on the schedule is July 29, an inconvenient time for us.

Description of Work: We needed a glass top for a custom desk built into a hutch in our newly remodeled kitchen. The shape of the desk top is very irregular---sort of a trapezoid shape with some extra angles, and a semicircle notch cut out for electric cords to pass. The Glass Guru folks on the phone were knowledgeable and courteous and eager to have my business. I called four other glass places and the Glass Guru was the only one willing to come out and make the template. A couple of weeks later they delivered the glass and it fits like a glove. I would recommend the Glass Guru to anyone, especially if you need a custom or unusual job done.

Description of Work: We made contact with Adam and I met him at the home to look at windows we were interested in having moisture removal done upon. On this visit, I explained that we were having the home repainted to another color and prior to repainting, we wanted to have the moisture in the windows removed. Without leaving the walkway, Adam looked at the windows from the outside, but did not actually physically examine the frames. At that time he stated that it appeared to him that window and frame replacement would actually be more economical than moisture removal or glass replacement due to the "river bedding" and wood rot around several of the frames. He spoke with me about a specific product that would be well suited for our needs and had a "kitchen sink warranty". Adam was not able to provide specific pricing at that time, but he did give me a general idea of what the cost for a three glass unit would be. I specifically asked if the frames were constructed in such a way that they could be painted, and he advised they could. Because this conversation involved a change in what my husband and I originally considered, it was agreed that my husband would set up another appointment when he could be there, and Adam would discuss what he felt was needed. We wanted to know what the costs would be before we committed to how much we wanted to do at this time, and what could wait a few more years. I shared with my husband what Adam had told me about products, services, and potential pricing. It sounded favorable. At the second appointment, we once again went outside to the walkway and Adam discussed the replacement of several of the frames and windows. The product he was talking about was not the one he had spoken of just a few day earlier. When I mentioned that to him he appeared confused and I then used the buzz words "kitchen sink warranty"; he remembered what he had previously told me about. Adam now advised that the frames he spoke to me about could not be painted, and we would have to go with another more costly replacement. When we asked if he could give us a general price so we could decide, he could not. He advised that he would have to have another person come out to do a more accurate measuring in order to provide pricing. He did provide us with the cost to replace a single second story window and then advised we owed a $25 "trip charge" also later called a "measuring charge". We were not aware of this charge, but had no problem paying it. But when we stated we did not understand this would be owed, Adam became defensive and stated he had told my husband about it when they set the appointment up. We paid the $25 and advised him that there was no need to go any further with discussions, it was clear that we could not work well together. We found it very disconcerting that he could not ever provide us with even a general idea of what the replacement of the windows would be. There was no way that we would sign any type of open ended agreement and not know what we would be obligated to pay. I was already concerned about the report another list member had made about Adam's failure to provide an accurate quote: we could not even get a rough quote to assist us in deciding whether to go with Glass Guru or not! In the end, the painting company came out for a third visit (at no charge) to look at the window frames. They actually went up on ladders and into the shrubs and pulled off old paint that had delaminated and pointed out some very minor wood damage. They advised us that they had a contractor who would repair the damage during their prep for painting, told us we would only need to replace the glass that was internally hazed, if we wanted, and provided us with the additional cost for the repairs. In the end, even though we never could determine what Glass Guru would charge, we feel the painting company saved us a lot of money and unnecessary work.
