 + 1 moreI have now had 2 bad experiences with "Big Deals" and would likely never purchase one in the future.
Description of Work: I purchased the Angie's List "Big Deal" both for lawn fertilization and pest control. This deal was 3 services of each. The communication was initially good and the first lawn service was done within a few weeks in early spring and then 4-6 wks later another lawn service and the first pest control was done, so the next treatment should have been done in early June. The third service was never done on the lawn and neither of two remaining pest control treatments were done. I've tried calling and emailing Kevin several times and received one call back where a message was left, but then I could not get a hold of him. With the drought now, I would not want to fertilize the lawn. I would not recommend this company.

 + 0 moreUsed Kessinger Lawn Care for lawn fertilization/aeration in 2011 after meeting them at the Home and Garden Show. I contacted them on 2/27/2012 to hire them for another year of service. At that time, they told me they would be starting around mid-March. I called on 4/9/12 because they had not yet applied my first application. I explained that I had an area of crabgrass that I was concerned about getting treated. I was told by Mr. Kessinger's wife that he would return my call but that never happened. The prior year I also had several instances of leaving messages with no return call. Also, there were a few times when they would not show as promised and I was told that they had so many house in Carmel that they didn't have time to get to me in Zionsville. On 4/14/12, I terminated our agreement for service for 2012 because I was looking for a more responsive company. It is a shame because I did see a great improvement in my lawn in 2011.

 + 0 moreThe advertisement on your site offered 3 applications of lawn fertilization for $90 if the yard was not over 10,000 sq ft. My wife had to call the company to get an application date and she was told that they were very busy and they could not give her a date. She ask them to call her and let her know when the application was to be applied. They never called they just showed up and applied the fertilizer and left a bill for an additional $27. My wife called them and said that our yard is not over 10,000 sq ft and they did not call ahead of the appointment to let us know they were coming. She was told someone would come out in a couple weeks to discuss and review the problem. No one ever showed up. I called the company and spoke with Kevin Kessinger and told him that I have had three different companies service my yard and none of them estimated the sq ft over 10,000 sq ft. After much conversation and disagreement Kevin and I agreed to discontinue the service and he would refund to me $60 for the last applications that he did not apply. He told me he would contact Angie's List and they would send me my refund. That was on May 9, 2012 and I have not heard anything more from him or Angie's List.

They called me back promptly and set up an appointment to aerate and fertilize my lawn. The service was completed on the date they promised and they did a very good job. They had to cancel the initial appointment, but they did call and reschedule. I will, more than likely, use them again.
Description of Work: Kessinger aerated ($50 coupon) and fertilized my lawn and set me up on a program to fertilize throughout the season at a much better price than the service I have been using.

 + -1 moreHe was very responsive and called right away after booking to schedule appointment. Both properties he thought could be done within the week depending on weather. He did our primary residence right away as it was closest to him. I was very happy--the aeration was high quality with lots of deep holes. I planned on using them again. The second property was not done for over a month. I finally called to inquire. They decided the reason it hadn't been done was that they lost the paperwork. That's OK. They said they could get to it that week. I called back and asked them to also mow. Finally at the end of the week, the property was done, right before rain. The aeration was not as well done as the first house and they did not mow as requested.
Description of Work: I purchased the core aeration from the big deal. We have a residence and an investment property so I purchased 2 packages.

 + -1 moreDid not go well. I told contractor that the grass was very high. He told me he had mulcher tractors and would do a criss cross cut job. When the crew got here. They did not do a good job. Yes the grass was very long and they had to bag the grass and load in their truck. The final price was twice as much as I was told and I had to go out the next day with the help of a neighbor and rake up the remaining left over grass and bag it and re-cut the grass. It's starting to come back now.

 + -1 moreThey looked at my sq footage through the accessors office and was informed it was 14,000 and there was a 10,000 sq. ft limit with this big deal. They wanted to charge me an additional $35 for each treatment so it would have costed me an additional $105 total. I explained to them that I didn't have 14,000 sq ft of yard because I have ponds, a large driveway, ground covering, and my home within that 14,000 sq ft. They said it didn't matter that they only went by what the accessors say. I've had my yard looked at by another company and they were only going to charge me for 7,000 sq ft. They also said they'd send me a bill for the extra charge without getting my permission. I was able to tell them that I didn't want the extra charge and asked if they will spray just the 10,000 sq ft I paid for and they said no.

 + 2 moreI originally bought the Angies list deal for aeration & pest control. I was contacted by Kevin immediately & both services we done within a week. He also gave a very good quote on 6 lawn treatments & we have started those. I called him today about weeding beds & mulching. he was in the area finishing a job so came by to give me a quote. They started working immediately and stayed through the evening until both front & back yards were done. It looks wonderful! Everything is weeded & trimmed and a thick layer of mulch spread-abt 12yds. They completed all the work & cleaned up everthing in about 6hrs- it would have taken us many weekendsto do ourselves & wouldn't have looked near as nice. I really appreciate their attention to detail & efficient work.
Description of Work: Front flower beds weeded, trimmed & mulch spread. Edged beds in front & back. Weeded, cleaned out & trimmed many areas in back yard-around patio & paths leading to patio& built in fire pit. Applied weed preventor to the mulched areas. Edged front walk & sidewalks.

Or, they got so busy that they can't keep up with the work. We weren't the only people who didn't get treatments. You have to be able to respond to the deal.

 + 0 moreOverall service was terrible and certainly an effective way to alienate potential clients. (I made it clear that I was looking for long term lawn care). Right now it would seem that I am out the money I paid for the remaining two treatments. I want the work completed immediately or the balance refunded. Even that would not make up for what is happening to my lawn while dealing with this matter.
Description of Work: I bought an Angie's list online deal for $89 for three lawn treatments. (Each treatment requires an extra $18 due to the size of our lawn.) The first application was applied in a timely maner included crabgrass prevention.) Shortly after that it became obvious that the dandelions and other weeds were totally out of control. I called his number and spoke to his wife who said she would relay the message. After ten days of no response, I called again left a message and Mr. Kessinger called back. He talked about the early spring but said he would acclerate the second application which would control the problem. When he did not show up again, I called him once more. Again I left a message on his voicemail and he returned the call. This time he said he would be out when several dry days were forecast so the chemical wouldn't be washed away. Quite a few good days passed with no action. My last contact with him was April 9. He said he had not come out because he was dealing with plumbing problems at home. (Could have called me!) He promised he would be out April 11, but again he did not show up or call. As of this date, April 12, he has done nothing. I tried calling again today but his voice mail message box was filled up so I couldn't even leave a message.

Kevin was very kind and professional over the phone and advised me that someone would call and tell me the date they would be by to do the aeration. Several weeks went by and no call. So, I called back and spoke to Kevin, who said there was a scheduling mix-up of some kind and they would be out the following week. They did come out and performed the aeration that following week. I was then told they would be out the week after that for the first treatment. No one came or called. I did call the office several times and was told they were quite busy and I would get a call back as to when they would be out to treat my lawn. Since I never received that follow up call, I decided to terminate further services. I too really want to support small business. However, I need someone more reliable and accountable.

They were very polite on the phone and quickly scheduled our aeration and a later lawn treatment. However, they no-showed for the aeration without a call. We called them and they said there was a mixup in the scheduling and they had planned to both aeration/treatment on a later date. After a few hours they called back to say they would come perform aeration in a few days but leave the treatment on the later date. They came and aerated as stated in the second call and were polite and professional. When the lawn application date came around, ANOTHER no-show and we still haven't heard from them. We want to support small business but we need someone who is reliable, esp with a new customer from Angies List.

 + 1 moreIt has gone fantastic and I expect it to continue that way. If I could I would shout it from the mountain tops how great they are. Hopefully because of all that I have written about the services they have performed for us, others will hear this via Angie's List. By the way, I even spoke with Kevin's wife on the phone once about a bill that I needed to pay - she is great too. This last time when they came, the 3 men who worked in our yard were also great at what they did - fast, efficient, knowledagable about the equipment they were running, and good at it. Their teamwork was terrific and they seemed to enjoy what they were doing and each other, which is a commendable thing to watch as they work in one's yard.
Description of Work: We have had Kessinger Lawn Care here 3 times so far - our yard is not a very pretty looking yard - lots of weeds and not good grass. I found them on Angie's List under the Big Deals email that came to me. The 1st time they came was for me to meet the owner, Kevin, and get information/quotes on mowing and treating our yard - we have never had this done before. It was incredible how considerate he was of my time and need - such as not taking other calls as he was explaining things to me or apologizing if he had to take a brief call from a worker needing an immediate answer in a yard where work was being done. He explained in detail about my yard and what they could do - such as the choice between 3 or 6 treatments for the yard and crosscutting the grass. That 1st time we met I decided to go with the 6 treatment plan for $30 a treatment and $30 for each mowing. They were able to the first treatment right then - thus the $30 on 3/16. During that meeting I noticed that Kevin was prioritized to what I am looking for instead of "pushing" suggestions and was always conscientious of cost and would we really benefit from something. When I had questions to ask, such as coring the yard, pest treating around the house, he would then explain if he thought it was/was not necessary, and if needed, when and how often. I then felt comfortable to say to Kevin that I don't know what all is involved in the yard care, is there something that he would suggest that we need because I knew he wasn't out to "rip" us off. AND YES there were things that he said we didn't need to do, that it would be unneccessary although some people do it - for example he said that our grass didn't really need to be cut yet ( even though that would have been money in his pocket to do so). What else I have noticed about Kevin is his patience, he was available that first meeting to answer every question, gave me time to digest the information and to see if I had any other questions. Along with that, he has been available by phone for my other questions. An example of that would be this - after I had passed on some information to my husband (who had been out of town), Kevin then explained everything to my husband for me. Also, we called back another time after deciding to core the yard. They were going to be in the area that weekend and they came here the 2nd time to core our yard for $55. The workers were so careful, they identified all areas first that could be damaged by the equipment and made sure not to go over that area. The 3rd time they came was to cut our grass for $30 after I called Kevin and told him how tall it had grown after being treated and the rain. Again they were going to be in the area in the next day or two and they would be out. They were here the next day. I don't think our yard has ever looked so good. It was the first time that we have had the kind of cut that alternates mower width areas thru the grass - we look like a business or a more expensive home - wow! Kevin explained that it is by the 3rd cutting that the yard will look its best - that is hard to believe because I think it looks good now. Having Kessinger do our lawn care is the best decision we have made recently. Because of the specials that were occuring and because we are having them mow this whole season, do the 6 lawn treatments, cored our yard, spraying the cracks in the sidewalks/driveway where weeds have continuously grown, we have received a very good price. The price is profitable for them and affordable for us. There is no way that we could care for our yard as quickly and easily as they do. I am thinking it may be less expensive than maintaining our own lawnmower - I wonder????

 + -1 moreI am completely satisfied with the services provided by Kessinger's Lawn Care. Following a phone conversation for scheduling purposes, the work was done promptly. It is much appreciated that the work was done as promised and that it was thorough. The ground is uneven and neighborhood drainage can make Spring lawn care in the back a soggy challenge, but they did not allow that to negatively impact the quality of their work. Since the unexpected death of my beloved husband late last Fall, I have taken on some areas he handled; it helps so much to be able to call a vendor, interact efficiently and professionally, and have a wonderful job done without a lot of emotionally draining interaction or lost time from my job.
