WOW!!! This is the best service I have had, since I can't remember when! Eric said it would take about two weeks to refinish the tops of the three parsons tables. It took 10 days. The tables look absolutely fabulous. We couldn't be happier with the workmanship or the professionalism. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful experience. I only wish I had more things for him to do. This is the kind of person I like to do business with. Thank you, ERIC! and thank you, Angie's List -- I would never have found him without you.
Description of Work: I have three tables in the family room which we wanted refinished. I called, an appt was made. Eric came out and gave an estimate of cost and time to do the work. He took the tables with him.

Dropped off bed on Thursday and promised for end of following week. Received call on Tuesday that it was ready for pickup. Bed looked great, and after I applied tung oil, it was more beautiful than anticipated. People couldn't have been nicer. I will never ever consider trying to strip furniture myself again. Their work was so excellent and prompt and reasonably priced.
Description of Work: Stripped woodwork of bed (headboard, footboard, and two side rails.) Bed had original varnish with 40 year old antiquing treatment on top.

They got a lot of feathers in their cap for doing that for me. Eric McNeil is the owner and the one who did the work. I really appreciate him going above and beyond.
Description of Work: We have used them before; but today I had a 10” piece of baseboard and wasn't even sure would they be able to work on. They not only accepted my job, but they did it while I waited.

We were very pleased with all the work that Eric and his employees did. Our sideboard has been in my husband's family for 5 generations. I've been reluctant to give it to someone to work on. But I'm so happy I did. It looks great. We would definately use the Village Strippersmith again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: We had 5 pieces of furniture refinished. Two nightstands, a narrow tall cabinet called a storkey cabinet, our back door and an antique sideboard. Eric came to our home and gave me an estimate. I called him back and we set up a time for him to come pick up our furniture . He was prompt, professional and very nice. Our nightstands had been scratched by the lamps we had on them. Eric refinished the tops and they look great. The storkey cabinet had started peeling on the top, caused by damage to the surface. It had a black finish on it where the brush strokes show thru (like a white wash, except black). He was able to match the color perfectly to the sides. It looked like new. Our sideboard had needed repair and refinishing for many years. It had a wooden wheel that had come off. He fixed that. The burl wood on the face of all the drawers and doors needed repair. Some of the burl had lightened, some had popped up and a few spots had chipped off. At least one of the doors had to be repaired where it was wobbly and just coming apart. After being refinished, it looks beautiful. Our backdoor had been scratched terribly by our dog. It had deep scratches on the flat surface and three of the mullions were scratched, one was so bad the line pattern was missing. It had been whittled away. Eric and one of his employees took our door out and replaced it with a plywood door that they securely attached. We felt safe. He refinished the door and hung it back within 3 days. They did a wonderful job on it. He got a piece of plexiglass cut for us that we can attach to the door or keep in front of it to prevent future damage. He had everything else finished and returned to us within two and a half weeks.

Wonderfully. Eric came and picked up the furniture and and them repaired and painted within three weeks. This is the second time I used this company and I will use them again. He went out of his way to research and find the right material to repair the dry-rotted webbing. Excellent work.

They did a beautiful job. I am sure it looks as nice as when my parents bought it in the 50's. However I made an error when I explained what I wanted them to do. I asked them to take the varnish off and make it "natural" with a satin stain. I had already sanded the dresser (down to bare wood - no stain) and when I went to pick up the frame I saw that they are stripped and revarnished it, but had not sanded it down to the natural color of the wood (the red stain was still on the bedframe). This was entirely my error - I did not explain it well when I asked them to do the job. I just told them that I wanted it "natural". I did not make any request for them to redo the work - as I recognized it was my mistake. Some day I may redo the job but for now at least it is beautiful. In hindsight maybe they could have asked a few more questions about what I wanted - but again I feel I know enough to be clear in my wishes and I just failed to make myself clear.

I took my settee to them at 5:45 p.m. Friday, July 16th. They said it would be ready in 2 weeks. Instead, they called me today, saying it was already repaired and ready for me to pick up. I did so and was pleased with the work they did. The repair consisted of glueing and clamping a broken seat, inserting a piece of wood in the middle beneath the whole seat to secure it, and tightening up all the rest of the settee. I thought the Village Stripper's price was good, as well as the quality and especially the timeliness.

I was pleased that all the work was done in his shop. It was a more challenging job because the 3 cabinets were stained a white finish. The doors and molding were raw wood of a different species. I wanted a two-tone finish on the doors to match other furniture in my room. Eric did a superb job of blending the different wood types and made the cabinets look like fine furniture
Description of Work: Eric came to my home and picked-up 3 tall cabinets, several custom doors and molding for the cabinets. His price was a little more than another person who said he would do the job on site because the cabinets were too big to transport - sure didn't need that mess in my home

I took over the furniture in summer of 2009 BUT told them I was in no hurry to have it completed. I told them I wanted it in the spring of 2010. During the months that followed, the company stayed in touch. I was invited to go in and pick out my stain and finish. In February we agreed on the completion date of March 31, 2010. The furniture was completed on March 27 and delivered on the 31st. Every piece was beautiful! I inherited this furniture in pieces and wasn't sure if it was worth having repaired. I couldn't be more pleased with the final product. All employees were polite and friendly. I will definitely use this company again.

I went in the week before Christmas with chair in hand to see if I could have this done for my Mom for Christmas. Found out they could do this type of work but with upholster, would probably be after Christmas. While talking with Eric, Matt offered to do the upholstery work for me and said they should be able to have it done in plenty of time.... WOW Hired on the spot and went fabric shopping. These guys are great to work with. The wood came out beautiful and the fabric work is awesome. My Mom loved the chair and it now looks just awesome back in the house instead of in the garage... Thanks Guys

The furniture has been in the family for almost 70 years. We recently acquired it and it was in good condition, but showing the effects of continuous use over that time. The pieces included a bed, dresser, night stand, cedar chest, "high-boy" dresser, two mirrors, and a dressing table and stool. The company provided a written estimate and described the process they use to strip and refinish furniture. They picked the pieces up and took them all to their shop. They were in frequent contact with us while they worked on the pieces - after stripping the first one or two they called to tell us the bedroom furniture was all solid maple. They consulted us on the selection of stain and refinished a single drawer to show how the final product would look and said they would redo the piece if we decided on a different color. The small, natural colored kitchen table could not be stripped and we decided to have it painted to match some existing kitchen stools. The pedestal was a different style land the company suggested that we buy a replacement which we ordered and they replaced on the table. The paint was a perfect match to the stools and they even replicated a red tinge effect from the stools on the two accompanying chairs. They called well in advance of completion to schedule delivery. Each piece was carried carefully into the house and placed exactly where we wanted it in the room. All of the work was beautifully done, even the insides of all the drawers were refinished.
Description of Work: Stripped and refinished about a dozen pieces of bedroom furniture, two wooden chairs, and two small tables - most of the pieces were re-stained and three were painted.

Excellent work. The compay picked up the table and took a chair to match the colors. First he tried to fix the issue without totally having to refinish the table. I appreciated his effort to try to fix the issue without the expense of a total refinishing. As this was a kitchen table he put this on a priority and was finished within the week. Returned the table, leaf and chair and all three look great. He corrected some issues with the chair's finish and did not charge me. Very professional and prompt. I will use them again.

It was a very minor job. We had some backs glued back on the chairs. Their prices were reasonable. We had a very good experience with them. I was satisfied with the job they did. The project was great. It did take longer than I originally expected, but it was worth the wait.
Description of Work: Eric and his team refinished a desk, credenza, and chair for my home office. The desk, which was HUGE and HEAVY, was located on the second floor of my house. Nonetheless, Eric and his team removed the desk, restored it beautifully, and returned desk to same location. I imagine there is a chiropractor in town doing some extra business right now. I have used this company on three occasions now, and would/will use them again as soon as I have something that needs refinishing. I will also be using them to reupholster some dining room chairs. Eric and his entire team is great to deal with -- very personable and knowledgeable. Their work is second to none!

I called the company and within a matter of days we were able to meet discuss the damage receive a quote and have the furniture transported to the repair shop. The approximate time for repair was actually less then antiicpated. The job was performed on time even as so far as to come out of their way to pick up and deliver the furniture to my home address. Throughout the Village Strippersmith was highly professional in their actions and results.
Description of Work: The Village Strippersmith refinished my coffee table top that had been damaged by a water spill some fifteen wood years ago. The colors had fadded to a murky looking appearance. In addition to the refinishing the top they applied the same coating to the rest of the piece of furniture at no additional charge.
