When we moved into our current home the lawn was in bad shape. Green Scene provided us with a comprehensive quote for their recommended treatments. They have never tried to push an unnecessary treatment and when I needed to cut our lawncare costs they worked with me and recommended which treatments I could cut out. They are very thorough and leave notes about any disease or problems they see in our grass or trees. They also offer many "do it yourself" treatments.

Our previous lawn treatment company let our lawn get weeds and the grass became very thin. After reading reviews on Angies List, we selected Green Scene. I phoned them and they visited next day. After lawn evaluation, they set up a treatment schedule. They have treated our lawn since late spring and, in spite of drought, our lawn looks beautiful! The applicator Billy is professional, knowledgeable and polite. We're satisfied with Green Scene!

I contacted Greenscene approx. two years ago to treat my lawn based on their proximity to my house and their positive reviews on Angie's List. We built a new house and planted our seed in the spring, which is not ideal, but the only choice we had. I met with Robert and was initially pleased with his thoroughness and knowledge. We understood this was a lengthy process to have a great looking lawn and were expecting to wait a couple of year for it to produce the results we wanted. We agreed to all of Roberts suggestions based on a $500/year budget and they completed the root stimulation treatment, fertilzation and couple of other things that I can't remember. After year one, we showed some progress but still were not close to where we wanted to be. In year two, it seemed to get worse with disease and the lawn not improving. Robert agreed with me that he was very disappointed in the outcome and I paid them to overseed and do some extra treatments he recommended. The lawn never improved the following summer and that is where the service and communication went starting going downhill quickly. Robert turned my account to one of his employees becuase he was too busy. I tried to get him to call me numerous times and he would not call me back. He randomly showed up at my house and left a long list of notes at my doorstep but still would not call me back after I followed up. Finally, when I called to stop service I had an outstanding bill of approx. $100 and just stated that I wanted to speak with Robert before I paid my final bill. I finally heard from Robert, not in the form of a phone call as I asked,but from a letter that was sent in the mail. I could not believe some of the things he said in that letter. Basically, he stated he didn't have time to call me back and if I didn't pay my final bill it would be sent to collections. I am a small business owner myself and understand every job does not go as planned. I stuck with them for two years and wanted to try to work out a reasonble solution but that became impossbile when Robert stated he had no intentions of calling me back. I'm guessing Robert will post a long-winded response to this review just as he has done with others. The communcation and approach when things weren't going very good is where I was most disappointed in Greenscene.

The Customer called in July 2010 not wanting a manager but insisted that I be the one to diagnose his lawn problems. I met with him and found the property only had approx 40% grass in it and the remaining was either bare dirt or a wide range of various wild grass many of which there is no selective chemical controls possible. The lawn had been sown by his father and a unknown seed type was used with a unknown percentage of weed seed at the worst possible time of the year. The Customer was strongly advised to just start over, either waiting for a more ideal time to seed or to sod. Instead to my surprise insisted on wanting to see what could be done with treatments. Green-Scene uses some of the latest turf and soil science to produce results where other companies cant however, this lawn was barely a lawn. With all the severe conditions I carefully explained to him the results would not only be limited even under best case scenarios but that it would also take many years just to improve it at all. This seemed to be good enough for him at the time and although I had hesitation in treating I reassured myself I had been completely honest and actually strived to make sure I had not over promised anything. I spent a great deal of time with him explaining all the varying aspects of difficulty so all I could do at that point was to begin to do what my customer demanded as service. It did not take long to find out that the Customer did not hear all the careful explanations of what to expect and he did not have a proper expectation. He called us at the end of that very year complaining it had not progressed as expected and again demanded I personally meet with him to discuss it. I did this and reminded him of the original conversation and I emphasized the extreme time line required to increase results to almost any degree. It was far too early for him to expect anything. The following year brought with it ALL the problems I carefully and correctly predicted. I explained the need to seed as all available control measures work off of the premise there is grass and not bare dirt. That summer was as we all know one of the most severe and at the end of it the Customer was again told he needed seeding. He chose to only want the front largest areas done and I gave him a greatly reduced charge from what would have been 120.00 to 60.00. He again demanded I personally do the seeding which is normally not part of my current job description, yet I did it for him. He demanded it be by appointment and had his original seed there for us to use. While there he included more and more areas and by the end 2/3rds of the lawn had been seeded. I also applied a summer fertilizer treatment as he had chose to skip it for budget sake, yet it was needed. I hand pulled many wild grass types and sprayed another problem plant threatening the entire lawn. The normal charge for the seeding alone should have been around 300.00 but I kept it at 60 hoping it would make him happy and at finally have the capability to give me grass to work with. In another effort to please his complaints (although they were all based in wrong unrealistic expectation) I reduced the fall thickening application price 50%. All this was done in a atmosphere to serve him and do far and above what he should have expected. It was NOT from a standpoint we were not providing him the results promised. He was left precise watering instructions which we noted on later visits were not being followed correctly. Technicians noted the new seed bone dry as well as later far too many leaves on lawn for too long a period against our instructions. He was told each time of these conditions. The following year noted only a 20% increase of grass to work with. Problems controlling weeds, crabgrass and wild uncontrollable grass types greatly affected uniformity. Several species of grass in his seed mix were shade loving and annual meaning they failed miserably in his location. June of 2012 the Customer was advised of how to get control of his severe Nutsedge problem. He refused but several weeks later called wanting to do it and again insisting I personally meet with him and no one else would do. A appointment was made for me to meet him on 6/21/11 requiring I cancel a previous appointment, which I was able to do and did so in effort to please his demands. His complaint was the same, that the lawn had not thickened in the front and he wanted me personally to advise. When I got there the Customer was not there and his wife could only tell me he was at work. I gave did a detailed inspection anyway and left it with his wife. The lawn was measurably improved from when we started yet would never obtain the beauty he insisted could be attained. We did not hear from him after his missed appointment until after we sent a friendly automatic reminder he was late with a past due balance. On 8/2/12 the Customer called and canceled his account saying he was “dissatisfied with our service as he requested SOMEONE meet him and no one ever did”. He simply forgot about missing the scheduled appointment he made with us even though I had met his wife and left the written evaluation. On 8/27/12 another statement reminder was sent to him regarding his past due account. It was then that the Customer started a campaign of calling the office daily wanting to speak to me and me only and would not allow anyone else to help in any way. He was told I would not be available for some time and the office always asked if they could help or give me a message. He refused. After many continual random attempts to reach me he then suddenly instructed the office that he knew he owed us money but was not going to pay it until I personally called and spoke to him. I received the memo and emailed the Customer explaining I would not be in the office for some time as my duties in law enforcement were requiring unexpected time from me. I agreed to speak to him however due to late hours would need to be by email. I explained we had done all possible to help him however I was not willing to negotiate the amount owed. He then called and threatened to place a bad report on Angies list if I didn’t call him by a stated deadline a few days later. The office explained I would not be in the office until after that point yet this did not matter to his demand. I provided him with a personal service and was always very detailed clear and concise as to what was and was not possible. His demands to always have only me on his lawn were always met up to the very end when he demanded a phone conversation when I was not available. He refused to speak to me by email and attempted to withhold payment and reported us to Angies List solely because he wanted a phone call from me when it was impossible.

This is our second year with GreenSceen and we are still *completely* satisfied with their service. After trying to get our yard under control myself, I finally gave up and called the pros. We had a crop of dandilions that would make a farmer proud. A few days after the first weed control application, the weeds started dying. After the second application, our yard was weed free, green and starting to look healthy again. My neighbors took notice and all commented at how much better things looked. I will continue to use GreenSceen, they are polite, professional and deliver the results we expected.
Description of Work: GreenSceen comes out and performs 5 applications to our yard throughout the year. This includes fertilizer, weed control and other chemicals to keep our yard weed free and green. Our property is about an acre with part of the area fenced in.

The lawn and tree and shrub care industry is different then most service businesses in that we must try to control the natural occurrences of the environment. Because we have developed a much different approach to how we do things compared to the average lawn care company we do get better results. Overall, we've had nothing but great experiences with them. We phoned their service late last year asking for a quote. They came out that same day and said they could restore our lawn over a systematic process. That same week they came out with the first application. Since then it's been nothing but quality service.

I was using another company to treat my lawn for several years. I recently decided I should speak with other companies and see what they had to offer. From the first phone call to Green Scene I felt like I was valued and that my business was wanted and that they would do a good job. Several weeks passsed between my initial call and my return call to request service and they were able to locate me in their computer and told me what services they would perform and let me know someone would treat my yard within the week. They do what they say they will do, they are curteous, and patient with questions. I cannot say enough good things about them.

The company did an satisfactory job with applying fertilizer and weed control. However the results of their disease control efforts were not acceptable. By the end of the summer the lawn had multiple areas where various fungus problems had occurred and the grass had died. They did respond to my calls for help in stopping further damage but nothing seemed to work. The people were courteous to work with and tried to assist, but results are what count. I discontinued using the company due to lack of communication. After the damage continued I contacted the company again and asked the manager to meet with me. I had received an email from the manager on Sept. 6th saying he would come out to inspect my lawn - probably after five days or so because he had to train a new employee. But as of Sept. 15th there had been no contact calls or email from him or anyone else. I didn't feel like my concerns were important.
Description of Work: Selected Green Scene to take care of my lawn in 2010 and 2011. This included fertilization plus weed and disease control. Cost figure is only an estimate over the period of time and may not include the various extra payments I made for the fungus control treatments.

This customer told us, as well as our records indicate, his lawn was beautiful as a result of our fertilizer/weed control program prior to the disease damaging his lawn. The issue here is we could not make this customer understand what is and is not possible and his demands for perfection were off the scale. Customer was told multiple times he had a damaging disease and given multiple options to address it. . After much communication and us applying disease control multiple times at no charge trying to help him, customer finally agreed to have some disease control applied. This was however after some very slight damage had already occurred. We explained to him his severe disease problem would likely persist longer then his control would provide protection yet that was all he wanted to do. Customer persisted with phone calls and demands of immediate response and at one time made it known he would report us to Angie’s list if he wasn’t satisfied. We did all possible for him and often found the lawn to be what 99% of the population would have considered a beautiful lawn. The disease would show up yet always responded well to all the treatments of which most were from us at no charge. The previous damage prior to treatments equaled approx 5-10 two inch spots scattered over a 400 sq foot area which could barely be seen. He was told they would easily fill in with cooler fall weather. The lawn had and maintained a good deep green color, was very uniform and had very few weeds pop up at any time. It soon became clear this customer had a unrealistic expectations as his calls continued to come in and healways expressed deep diss satisfaction to how his lawn looked. Over the course of less then one year we applied 5 different things at no charge to him and responded to his immediate demands to look at his property. Both service call visits were done in under our promised 5 business day response time. Each visit revealed a beautiful lawn with slight amounts of disease activity at times which required us on our hands and knees to visually identify it being there. Near the end of this relationship Member called yet again upset of his lawns condition. I personally had been the one to look at his lawn just a few weeks earlier as I wanted to see for myself what the problem was and why we had so many calls of dissatisfaction from this customer. I found it to be beautiful by all standards and gave it our top lawn condition rating. I took his phone call and spent approx 1.25 hours with him. I was able to help him understand for the first time that he had been expecting disease control to cure his problem and felt after its application he should never again have the same problem. He reluctantly was able to agree he had misunderstood everything concerning his disease problem. I explained that although he had what he stated as the best state of the art sprinkler money could buy, that his lawn was dry. His soil moisture sensor was placed in a more shaded area and this years record breaking temperature showed it in the full sun where his disease activity was. I explained the disease he was having trouble with was thriving on the dryer soil. I advised a totally customized program to fit his known specific need and budget focusing on his needed disease control. I gave him multiple options trying to save him money at which time he made known to me he wanted to continue to hold me accountable for the results. This was a problem as his standards to this point were not realistic and I could not understand after what seemed to be his understanding that he had a wrong expectation that he now wanted to somehow hold me accountable to these same results. I knew I would again need to address the foundational miss understanding what he wanted to believe but realized after the already long conversation it would need to happen at a later time hoping he would have had time to absorb it all. I wanted to send a manager to his lawn and was willing to oversee the visit and communication in doing this but customer demanded I personally look at the lawn. I explained I would be more then happy to however due to multiple pressing previous obligations I would not be able to within our normal response time. I refused to give him a time frame he was insistent that I give him as my obligations were not secure in themselves and I did not want to promise him anything that could not be delivered. He chose to wait for me and I agreed. The next thing we know is he has canceled due to me not touching base with him. I made it clear I would not be able to and he agreed to wait so I am at a loss to this. He stated no one called him or emailed him. We didn’t because the situation was clearly communicated otherwise with my advising him it could be a two week wait. We are very good with returning calls and proper communication in every way. If this was the reason he canceled service and he somehow simply did not hear my refusal for a time to visit etc, why wouldn’t he call us ? The visit was scheduled for the day after he cancelled. This customer was from the opinions of all who ever spoke or dealt with him not capable of being satisfied. We can honestly say we did everything possible to please him and the number of free applications and service call visits should prove that. We have all correspondence recorded. Customer states we were courteous to work with and tried to assist, but the results are what counted. The problem with the results were in his complete wrong expectation of what is possible concerning disease, not doing as we advised when we advised it and in his definition of results. We have pictures to prove after his calls of dissatisfaction we found a beautiful lawn. Mr simply wanted a degree of perfection not obtainable by most golf courses. He states he discontinued using Green-Scene due to lack of communication. Our records indicate the communication he speaks of was very clear. It appears to us he simply was upset at the whole situation and waiting for me was no longer a option. We drove by the lawn a day after his cancellation and it had responded very well to my proper watering advised and was by all accounts beautiful. In closing I want to say this type of report is very hard on all of us. We feel it is not a fair assessment of the facts. I guess that is why we are given a chance to respond. All anyone has to do is to have done business with a few other lawn care companies to then realize the difference from us. Green-Scene from inception has done all we can to reinvent lawn care. To stop and prevent all the things that so many people so easily have trouble with due to how so many businesses are ran today. We strive on a daily bases to treat everyone the way we would want to be treated. That said, although we are on the cutting edge of turf and soil science we are not miracle workers. There is a limit to what is possible. Our approach is different then any other in customizing to need and budget at any time the need may arise, and in lawn care it can. We monitor trends and problems so we can give proper instruction and advisement as needed but we cannot force anyone to listen or do anything. It is my hope all who reads this can see it clearly. We called several lawn company's for estimates; but after meeting with Rob at Green Scene it was an easy decision. Green Scene was not the cheapest, nor where they the most expensive. When the representative came to our home, he was professional, prompt and wanted us to walk the property with him. As we walked about the yard, he took samples of the dirt and explained what type of soil we have, pointed out each problem area and how it could be fixed. Green Scene was extremely informative with their estimate & information which really impressed me. It wasn't about the sale of a new client, it was as simple as they wanted me to know as much about my yard as they did during that visit. They made recommendations on what was needed and when. They wanted to know what was important to me and what could be achieved with my budget. In 2010, my lawn was affected by several diseases, with 3 children and a husband deplayed overseas at the time I was unable to lay fertilizer down myself. Green Scene came to the rescue, laying the fertilizer the next day after I called them and came back two weeks later to make sure my lawn was healing and looking better. Each time we are scheduled to have an application applied to our lawn, we recieve a call the day before letting us know they will be coming out the next day and nice hand written note telling us any important informaiton on our invoice after teh service from their representative I know that at any time I can call them with questions about my lawn, and each time I am amazed at how knowledgable their staff is. They inform me about trends they are seeing, what I can do myself to correct it and sometimes send someone out to look at my concerns. I have been with Green Scene since August 2008 and I have no plans of changing companies anytime soon!
Description of Work: In 2008 we purchased a forclose home and our lawn was in need of serious care. We have clover, crab grass and areas of grass that were bare, not to mention the spider and bug problem from having the house vacant for some time. We currently have 6 fertilizer treatments plus several other treatments throught out the year to bring our yard back to life. Cost per treament varies, but the results and worth it!

They are top rated. They have had the superstar rating several times over the past few years. There have been many positive ratings by users about them. They do a terrific thing. With an additional fee, they send out emails to their clients to keep them up to date with basically what is going on such as with the weather. Many people would not have the email service. They have notified me and explained that in certain weather conditions if they do come and do the job, it would just simply be washed off. They have been keeping me up to date with that as well as at the beginning of spring about mowing. They have explained about how to do mowing and how to do it well. They have given good pointers on how to treat our grass. They try to help us take good care of our investment around the lovely green blades to try to make it as lovely as possible. Even though it has been only one treatment so far, they have so far been treating me as a great client.

They were very good. They put down about 6 or 7 normal treatments a year to provide nutrients for the lawn. If they come across anything such as dollar spot or fungus or anything they will treat that too. I can pay with a 5% discount in advance for all the treatment, but choose to pay as I go because it is better for my budget. I spent about $ 40 or $42 on that service and it depends on the size of the lawn. The Owner is a graduate from college in this field, so he understands this stuff.

I called Green-Scene because I was unhappy with my lawn service. I told the inside rep about the specifics that I was unhappy with and she conveyed that info to the technician. He tried diligently to get ahold of me and we finally connected. He came to my house and we walked my lawn. I showed him the areas I felt were neglected by my previous service and gave him their reasons why. He assured me he would pay special attention to those issues and then was at my house working for quite a while. I'll let you know how it looks later in the year but I'm sure it'll look great! So far, so good!
Description of Work: Green-Scene came to my house and did a lawn analysis. They told me within a few days what my lawn needed. We agreed and set a date for them to perform the services.

I have been using them for over a year and have been very pleased with the results. My lawn has improved and I constantly get compliments on how green the grass is.
Description of Work: On-going service - Lawn fertilization. Very professional company. They also send out emails letting their customers know about outbreaks of grass problems in their area so it can be treated early enough so it won't cause too much damage.

They are incredible. They are experts of grass. They have made the grass in our lawn almost perfect, in two years. We are on a plan with them. They are very helpful over the phone. We are really impressed with them. In our previous house, we had a horrible yard. So, they had pulled out the grass and the weeds. The next spring, we had a beautiful yard. They are awesome.

They come out every year to evaluate and to take care of my complete lawn. They tell you what you need and what you don?t need. Something which is outstanding about Green Scene is that, the owner is very knowledgeable and he sends out communications to all his customers. He sends it throughout the year informing us about diseases and other information about lawn care. It?s the only lawn care company that I have ever used. Everything about him and his company is perfect. I will continue to use their services in the future as well.

They just come and do the work and go. I have not interacted with them at all. They just come at scheduled times during the year and leave the bill on the door.

They are wonderful to work with. The approximate cost listed is what we pay for the annual treatment - keep in mind we do have a larger yard which attributes to that cost.
Description of Work: We have an annual agreement with them for lawn fertilzation and treatment. This also includes spraying around the foundation for bugs. We have used them for three years now.

Had problem with carpenter ants in upstairs bathrooms and study. Robert explained at length over the phone the nature of carpenter ants and gave me a choice of treating them myself (with products they sell) or having him do the work. I chose to have him do the work. He came to my home on time and applied the product and additionally set traps. After two days I had no more ants. He returned two weeks later to spray the outside perimeter of the house and, in addition, filled in cracks in the slab he noticed during his inspection. Robert gave me thorough information and choices for the treatment. I am extremely pleased with the result.
