Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

My wife called and said we had a clogged toilet. I came home for lunch and tried to plunge the toilet but was unsuccessful. She called Roto Rooter and was quoted a price of $145 service call but if the toilet was augured, it would be $185 and that would include the service charge. My wife asked me to stay till he came in case there were any questions and of course the ongoing concern of women in general getting ripped off by technical professionals (I didn't believe her but agreed to stay). When he showed up I explained that I had tried to plunge the toilet but was unsuccessful. He then mentioned that plunging can blow out the wax seal and I agreed. He then asked how old the toilet was - I said about 6 or 7 years old. He pulled off the lid and said it was 10 years old. He then looked through the tank's water and said the flapper was dry rotting (he didn't know I had replaced it 2 weeks earlier) and the fill valve was on the last leg (I replaced it 18 months ago and we have soft water). He then gave me a quote of $345 which would include the flapper, fill valve, auguring, and wax ring if necessary. Wanted to see where this was going, I said ok. He spent about 5 minutes auguring and cleared the toilet. Then he replaced the flapper and valve (I kept the parts for evidence), cleaned up and left. I left as well to go back to work. Shortly there after, my wife called and said water was leaking from under the toilet. When I got home, I took the toilet off and sure enough, the wax ring had failed. I replaced it and have had no problems since. Two days later I called Roto Rooter and talked with Steve and explained the above situation. He said this tech was his best and he would like to talk with him before commenting. I agreed. He called the next day (prompt) and explained that the tech felt he had done nothing wrong but when face with a supervisor coming out and examining the parts, agreed to forgo some of the bill. Steve then credited me $100 and asked if we were good. I said yes. This is what I learned: These plumbers are on commission - it pays to fix more than what is broken. My wife was right - technicians do try and take advantage of unknowing people (they give the honest ones a bad rep). I will never recommend this company. Though Steve reimbursed me partially, for my company, I would have been out there confirming these allegations to either support my people or fire them. Your reputation is long lasting and I would not put up with someone cheating my customers. It makes you wonder if this is happening all the time and that is what makes this technician so valuable to the company.

The repairman was punctual that is about the only good thing I can say about the entire experience. Our shower drain was leaking into the ceiling downstairs. My father had opened a place in the ceiling and tried to fix the problem. It had worked for quite a while but started leaking in another spot due to the faucet leaking down the pipe. I had explained that we needed this fixed the best way possible because I did not have the funds to replace the shower. The drain in the shower did not have any stability due to there not being a cement base when the house was built. He insisted the bathroom needed to be torn out and replaced....again I told him that right now I could not afford such an undertaking. I told him I could find someone else if this was his only solution. He then quoted me a price with no gaurntee that the leak would return. I agreed to the $500 quote with the replacement of the faucet. He spent the next three hours running up and down the stairs and running back and forth to Menards. He had me move stuff out of my closet because he had to cut into the wall to get to the shower faucet. He told me on one of his Menards runs that he was going to get a panel. After he was finished he gave he the bill and not only was it not the price that he quoted he changed the price three or four times before he finally came up with the price of $6 shy of $700. After he left I went to put my closet back in order and discovered there was a gaping hole in my wall.....no panel...nothing but a hole and a huge mess of dry wall dust all over the place. I immediately called the office and got the same person who I had set up the appointment. She was the best part of this experience...she told me this was not their policy to leave a site in this disarray. She arranged for him to come back and finish his work....we had to pay another $30 to pay for the panel....we didn't have to pay for his labor. Gee Thanks! I asked for an itemized bill but did not receive one....I am sure I had already paid for this panel. Also, not at all happy with the faucet that was installed....was not consulted. The handle sticks out and causes the water to go extremely hot...also catches on your body when you enter and exit the shower. It is not leaking now. I would not recommend this company to anyone!

I called to make an appointment and it was easy to pick a day and time for service. They called before coming to the house to assure that I was home. Joel was very nice with a good sense of humor. He checked the disposal and showed me that it was leaking in two locations and suggested I get a new one installed. He gave me the price for the disposal and installation which I thought was reasonable. He left for a few minutes to go get a disposal from the warehouse and returned to finish the job. He was very professional and did a good job installing the unit and cleaning up when the job was completed. I live in northwest Fort Wayne, IN and would recommend the Roto-Rooter on Transportation Dr. in Fort Wayne, IN if you need plumbing work done in your home.

Our utility room in the basement got flooded when the check valve broke and caused pipe separation. I had a very nice helpful plumber, John, who came out same day and both cleaned the flood and replaced the broken pipe & valve. He left some industrial fans to help dry out the area and picked them up after his last call at no charge to me He arrived on time Performed the work in a timely manner Made sure everything was in working order before leaving Additionally, we had just moved in and he was helpful in my questions on how the rest of the plumbing system worked. It was a major stress reliever and gave peace of mind, I would definitely use Roto-Rooter again

I should have called Roto Rooter first. To be honest I did call a few others and seemed to get the run around for whatever reason. It all started with their phone scheduler of the appointment, it went very smooth and she did everything that she could to work around my schedule which was great. When the service tech showed up he was punctual, professional and didn't waste any time since they do charge by the hour. He did a great job explaining to me what went wrong, but what I appreciated most was that he didn't try and sell me something that I didn't need. I would definitely do business with them again.

It started out rough because the leak (and it was coming out fast) was discovered on Sunday, so we initially chose Roto Rooter because it said they have emergency services available. Well when we called the guy on call said we had to wait until Monday to call the city to turn off the water. Well this didn't make sense to me because what if the water was gushing out and filling up my basement - there had to be a way to have the city come out and turn off the water in an emergency situtation. Well Aqua IN came out on Sunday and turned off the main water going to our house and we called back and the guy said he was really just a sewer and drain guy and didn't really work on water pipes. So much for 24 hour emergency service! Well Roto Rooter then redeemed themselves because they called on Monday morning, came out and fixed our problem, so their follow up was very good. We were very pleased with the job they did and the price we were charged. I would recommend them and will use them again, but hopefully we don't have an emergency again! I would not call them if it was after hours or on the weekend.

It went pretty well. It was pretty good. Everything has been timely. I'd give them all A's for everything. They fixed it on time. Other companies would take 2 weeks. Two weeks is what they said they would take but they made it in 2 days.

Two technicians worked on it. Both were very polite and professional. They explained the problem was really at the outside trap and that the problem would only repeat itself. They wrote up an estimate to excavate and repair the trap.

Fantastic! When I called them this morning, Brittney told me they were booked. But she would try to work me in. SHE DID! Within 2 hours of calling, the service tech was here. Go Brittney! Mike was great! Very happy!

I called their message system at 1 am and they offered immediate service. I declined and asked them to come in the morning. The plumber was here by 8:30 and he immediatly fixed the problem. He was very kind and knowledgeable. I would use Roto Rooter again.

I thought everything went very well and considering my problem came up the week of Christmas I thought the response time was excellent. Both days they came to my home they came early so they could try and correct my problem as quickly as possible for me.

I called and someone was at my house in about 30 minutes. He used a hand auger and cleared the blockage. He also gave some advice about avoiding future problems. He also gave us a senior citizen's discount.

Great, the provider was efficient, very informative, and timely! Really got us out of a bind quickly by repairing the hot water heater leak very quickly when we called .

Sean showed up at the approximate time, we didn't have an appointment. Sean was very professional and courteous, letting us know what he was doing the whole time, was able to diagnosis the problem quickly. Cleaned out the drains and we were good to go.

They were excellent. John, the owner, is really good at problem solving. They did what was best for my house. He even gave me his cell phone number.

The sewer was really clogged and it took over 1.5 hours to get it cleaned out. Matt and Shawn were very nice and professional. They worked hard.

They are reliable people and they do what they say they are going to do. Also, they keep at the work until they get the job done correctly. They will continuely recommend to you what else you would need if the problem is not solved. They were prompt and professional.

Called back quickly, arrived on time, cleaned area before installing new water heater. Installed new water heater. I also used them 2 days before for a different problem and they were great.

Service was quick and professional. It was only price that would make me hesitate to use them again. To clear a toilet drain was $147. When I offered an Angie's List 30% or $30 (can't remember) discount coupon the man said they couldn't honor it because they weren't members of Angie's List. (?) Even though it was from the page with their review so instead they gave a $10 discount making it $137. Others have charged just over $100. It seemed expensive especially for 5 minutes work.
