 + -1 moreHe is very good at what he does, maybe higher price than other people but he does good work. He cut the stuff down and cleaned everything up. He did an excellent job. I was able to pay him $100 a month until it was paid off. He will do the job the way it is suppose to be done. You don't have to worry about it, you know it is going to be done right.

 + 0 morePhoned up RFD and explained my situation, that I had a bedroom door that had already been removed and had a new one to be installed. Gentlemen gave me a quote over the phone of $125.00 to install new door. When I called up to set up an appointment, he went over the pricing again (which was the same as the estimate) and went into detail on what the cost entailed. Appointment was set up for the same week. RFD called me 15 minutes upon arrival and installed the door. They did an excellent job, very polite and courteous. I would definetly recommend and use this company again.

 + 0 moreThey responded to a call for an estimate the next day, and sent us a proposal within a week. We had to wait a while for installation because the windows needed to be custom-made to size, but as soon as the windows were received installation was scheduled for a few days later. Workmanship was very good and the end result more than met our expectations. We have since used this company for another small job - re-routing of a gas line. We would use this company again and recommend it to others.
Description of Work: They removed old screening and framework at two ends of a breezeway and installed 3 casement windows and a door to make the area into a small 3-season room. They also replaced two windows in a bedroom. The materials used were very high quality, at our request. They gave great attention to details, and workmanship was very good.

 + 6 moreI GAVE THEM A BUDGET AND THEY BEGAN WORK IMMEDIATELY. THAT WAS JUST YESTERDAY BUT AT 73 AND HEADING FOR MAYO CLINIC TOMORROW I CAN NOW RELAX KNOWING THAT SOME RENTERS TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ME FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER AND NOW RFD HAS TAKEN IT OFF MY SHOULDERS
Description of Work: THESE TWO YOUNG MEN DID WORK FOR ME YEARS AGO AND IT WAS GREAT BUT I HAD NO CONTACT FOR 20 YEARS. I CALLED AND ASKED FOR AN ESTIMATE ON SOME WORK TO BE DONE ON A RENTAL PROPERTY. THERE ARE MANY, MANY NEEDS AT THIS ONCE NICE PROPERTY INCLUDING THE REPLACEMENT OF A MAJOR FRONT WINDOW. WE MET AT THE PROPERTY YESTERDAY, LOOKED AROUND, TALKED A LOT, AND I GAVE THEM A BUDGET FOR A LOT OF DETAIL WORK(LOCKS ALL REKEYED ETC. ETC.) AS WELL AS BIG JOBS LIKE LOADING UP AND HAULING AWAY OLD TVS, WASHER AND DRYER, MATTRESS AND MUCH MORE. THERE IS TRASH INSIDE AND OUT, DOORS OFF HINGES, WEEDS ,SHRUBS TO BE TRIMMED,AND OTHER YARD TRASH.GALLON CONTAINERS OF USED MOTOR OIL WERE LEFT AND THEY WILL TAKE THEM TO A RECYCLER. I ASKED IF THEY COULDN'T JUST PUT IT IN THE GARBAGE AND THEY SAID "NO!!". I LIKE THAT. I HAVE HIRED THEM TO MANAGE THE WORK JOBBED OUT AS WELL AS DOING A LOT THEMSELVES. THEY DID NOT ASK FOR A DEPOSIT AND I DID NOT GIVE THEM ONE. I TRUST THEM BUT I AM ALSO REALISTIC IF PERHAPS NOT A BIT CYNICAL. WHEN I LEFT THEM AT THE PROPERTY YESTERDAY THEY WERE GATHERING UP TRASH ALL AROUND THE HOUSE TO PREPARE IT FOR MOWING. THIS PROPERTY IS THE BLIGHT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND WAS NOT ALWAYS SO. THE OUTSIDE IS MY PRIORITY AND WE GO FROM THEREI WILL PREPARE A REPORT(S) AS THE WORK GOES ALONG BUT THESE ARE HONEST, HARDWORKING MEN WHO SHOULD BE TOO BUSY TO DO MY STUFF. THEY WILL BE OVERSEEING A JOB THAT JUST OVERWHELMED ME AND I CAN RELAX KNOW IT WILL BE DONE WELL

 + 3 moreCalled RFD Construction in May to discuss the work and was informed that he was on other jobs but probably would be able to have the work done by July. Rick called earlier than expected and came out June 14 to begin the work. He found that none of the closet door openings were standard size so lots of alterations and adjustments were necessary to fit the new closet doors to each room. He is very tenacious and precise with his work and didn't stop until he had each door fitting properly. The ceiling repair and installation went quickly, as did all the smaller jobs. Before he left we asked for an estimate on a future job, which he did and we received it two days later. We are very please with the work.
Description of Work: Purchasing, preparation and installation of 3 sets of closet doors and trim. Removing old ceiling surface, preparation and installation of new ceiling in laundry room. Installation of new light fixture and staining and installing quarter round trim. Moving an electrical switch from one location to another and wall repair. Installation of a bath fixture.

 + 2 moreRick returned my calls right away. He gave us an estimate within a couple of days. They only snag I had was with Sears not delivering the dishwasher when I wanted. Rick worked around this and got everything done quickly.
Description of Work: RFD contruction installed a door for our bathroom. It wasn't easy. It was a tight space. He had to replace some of the woodwork. It looks great. We had loover doors there before and I hated them. I didn't believe a real door would fit. He also installed a dish washer for us. He had to put in the plumbing and electrical. he also had to move a cabinet to make room for the dishwasher. I am very happy with the work he did, and I will call him again when I need something done.

He came the following Monday as planned and called ahead to let us know when he would arrive. Some of the plumbing work turned into a bigger job than planned but he kept on the job and the end result in beautiful, taking only one day instead of the two we'd planned. I will definitely call Rick again in the future. He is a very personable and professional person.

 + -1 moreI called Rick Depew for a damaged door claim there in Ft Wayne. Mr Depew had no email, internet first of all and this made it very difficult to do business with him because he had to send everything snail mail...he did go out and look at jobs and sent me an estimate of which I had to wait several days. I handle damage claims for home delivery companies across the state of Indiana and I have to get all estimates approved through them. I did get approval to go ahead and have Mr Depew to do the work... when I called him, he said he had a project that would take about 2 weeks to complete and wouldn't be able to get to my job in 2 weeks (homeowner was fine with this). He calls me 2 weeks later and informs me that homeowner wanted door spray painted as it was originally and he didn't want to do it. I just think the whole process was unprofessional with Mr Depew.

 + -1 moreMy mother reported back that Mr. Depew was a very friendly and kind man. He did a good job at making things work for now and felt confident that he would do a wonderful job reframing/rehanging the door.
Description of Work: I called Mr. Depew about my parent's front door that would not lock or even latch to stay closed. My parents are elderly and have some serious medical issues. I left a message that was returned in less than 30 minutes and Mr. Depew said he could be at my parent's home in 15 minutes to take a look and do what he could with the tools he had with him. He fixed the door so it would latch and lock. He could see that it really needed more work to be fixed properly and arranged to contact my parents after the holiday at their request. Mr. Depew then called me back to let me know what he was able to do for my parents and told me he did not charge them anything today. He would work the cost into the full job when the time comes. He gave me a very reasonable estimate for the job. I assured him that if my parents were unable to pay at the time of service that I would take care of the bill. He was fine with this arrangement.

 + 2 moreRick has a great attitude. No job is too small or seemingly too large. I initially hired him just to help me out with all those small jobs that were hard for me to do myself and in the process found a wonderful carpenter who will be a wonderful asset for future projects. Good, good guy! $35 an hour is a little high in my opinion, but he works efficiently. I don't know - that could be the going rate. I tried contacting others and they took so long to get back to me that I decided just to give Rick and crack at it and see how it went. It went very well.
Description of Work: Rick tore out an aging flower box on our patio and is rebuilt it. He did a beautiful job. His skill as a carpenter is notable. After he finishes with the flower box, he will rebuild a garden trellis that is also aging. Earlier in the summer, I contacted RFD construction because I needed help with changing out the hardware in my home. I found him on Angie's list. I was having a party for my parents 60th wedding anniversary and needed the work done in fairly short order. I had been doing it myself, but was very slow. Rick was able to get the work done in good time for the party.
