We didn't know that people would be working after 5 pm. The men who did the work were a pleasure to have in our home. They we 're very good at their jobs ...very talented.

+ 3 moreHAVE USED RICK FOR OVER A YEAR ON VARIOUS PROJECTS AT SOME OF OUR RENTAL PROPERTIES. MAINLY WINDOW WORK AND ENTRY DOOR REPAIRS. BEING A SMALL BUSINESS OURSELVES WE LIKE TO SUPPORT OTHER SMALL BUSINESSES WHENEVER POSSIBLE. I TYPICALLY TRY TO MAKE THE JOBS AS EASY AND CONVIENIENT AS POSSIBLE FOR HIM. I HAD FELT THAT ON PAST JOBS THE WORK WAS DECENT AND PRICING WAS WITHIN RANGE, BUT ON THIS JOB I FELT COST OF LABOR UNREASONABLY HIGH. SINCE I HAVE WORKED WITH RICK OVER A PERIOD OF TIME I DIDN'T BOTHER TO GET AN ESTIMATE FOR WORK, AND WANTED TO GIVE HIM THE BUSINESS. I THOUGHT WE HAD ESTABLISHED A RELATIONSHIP OF "TRUST AND RESPECT", WHERE AS HE KNEW HE WOULD GET PAID IN A TIMELY MANOR AND I WOULD GET QUALTY WORK AT FAIR PRICES. HOWEVER, WHEN HE BILLED ME 11.5 HRS WORK AT $603.60 WHICH EQUALS $52.49 HR!!!! THAT IS A STICKER SHOCK. I WOULD EXPECT $30-$35 HR AS FAIR BUT $52 IS A SCREWING AND I FELT RFD CONSTRUCT TOOK ADVANTAGE OF MY TRUST. SO MY ISSUES IS NOT SO MUCH THE TIME INVOLVED BUT THE COST OF LABOR.
Description of Work: PLOWED A VERY SMALL BACK DRIVE, WHICH I DIDN'T ASK HIM TO DO. RAN SNOWBLOWER ON SIDEWALKS. CHG. $86.40 REPLACED 2 PANES OF GLASS, REPLACED 3 LOCKS ON DOORS, PUT SWEEP ON FRONT DOOR, INSTALLED SEALS ON BACK DOOR, REPLACED FAUCET IN KITCHEN, REHUNG CABINET DOOR ON BATHROOM CABINET (FEW SCREWS AND MABE A HINGE), AND USED COUPLE CANS OF FOAM TO PLUG SOME HOLES IN FOUNDATION. MATERIALS COSTS $181.12.

+ 1 moreHe gave me an estimate within two days so it was a quick estimate. Whether it will be done before winter is questionable. I had to call him instead of him calling me. I would have felt better if he had called me. He sent a proposal and I sent it back but I would have appreciated an acknowledgment. The estimate is high but I would rather pay good money for good work.
Description of Work: I called RFD Construction and they gave me an estimate. They are really, really busy but he did tell me that they would try to get out and get everything done in a month. They will be replacing a backdoor in the garage, replacing a screen door in the screened patio and a post on my front porch.

+ -1 moreRick is very precise with his work, always responsive and punctual. He did an amazing job completely ripping out an old whirlpool tub and rebuilding a frame for my new larger whirlpool tub. He's done more projects for us than I can list (flooring, plumbing, repairs, vanity counter tops, drywall repair, etc.). He's not cheap, but if you want the job done right, he's the guy. His son, Raymond, has accompanied him on several occasions and he is also a pleasure to work with. RFD Construction is my "go to" for almost all of my home improvement projects now.
Description of Work: Most recently, I had Rick install new rails on a drawer in the kitchen, but Rick has done a lot of work for us and always done a good job. Everything from complete remodel of master bath to partial remodels of other baths.

+ 1 moreWe started in December. The weather got so bad that it took a while to finish it. They did a very good job. It cost us $843 for them to put the rest of wood on the ramp. It was almost $2000 for the stain. My husband is handicapped and we had to have a ramp. He had started a long time ago. He tried to do it himself but he couldn’t after a while. That's why we hired them. They were very good at cleanup. They were very professional. They are a father and son crew. It takes them a little bit longer than some other contractors who have more workers; it's just those two. They were very good. There are only two of them. It's not going to be completed real fast. Their pricing was a little steep for just the two of them. They are the first ones we have used; I don’t know what the pricing is out there. They do good work. We took them on in the worst weather. They tried to be responsive. They call us when they can't make it. They just don’t leave us out there hanging. They are punctual. They normally didn’t start till about 10 o' clock in the morning; I thought that was kind of strange. They really were a nice crew. They are coming back to do another project.
Description of Work: RFD Construction finished off a ramp that my husband had started and had almost completed. We had them come back and stain and put oak over it to make it look a little fancier. They cut some closet doors and also did some fascia on our shed. We did the ceiling of the porch on the shed. They did quite a bit.

Description of Work: Rick was very professional and knowledgeable at all times. He was working on a 100 year old house and 50 year old garage that had been 'remodeled' by the previous homeowner. When Rick found an unexpected problem, he immediately thought of a solution to rectify the issue. Rick's son assisted . $1047. Replace the back service door and jamb in the concrete block garage with treated lumber and AZEK PVC trim and a fiberglass door The back service door to the garage was not full size. When Rich removed the existing jamb he discovered there was no header above the door frame supporting the concrete blocks above. Rick expertly removed the concrete blocks above the door opening to make a full size opening so a full size door could be installed $880 Replace framing around roll-up garage door with treated lumber and trim out with AZEK PVC Rick removed the existing trim which had rotted at the bottom. He discovered he could not remove and replace the side framing because of the location of the garage door rails so he replaced the bottom damaged wood and adjusted the bid accordingly. Rick applied this amount to cover the unexpected work to remove the concrete blocks above the service door (previous comment) $225 Replace very small closet window and trim beside the front door Rick replaced the window and trim. The carpentry work on the trim around the window greatly enhanced the look of the window. The window is beside the front door and allowed visitors to see into the closet. Rick sandblasted the glass to make it translucent and block views into the closet $568 Blow in insulation over the Kitchen and insulate the wall between the attic and a bedroom $596 Remove paneling in entry and replace it with bead board The carpentry work was excellent-- working around light fixtures, meeting at the corners, etc $1086 Remove sink cabinet and paneling in the bathroom and install bead board Another surprise, an 'alcove' was discovered behind the paneling between the studs. The opening showed evidence of a previous sink that had obviously leaked damaging the floor beam below. The opening was not insulated and literally was open to the crawlspace. Rick insulated the opening and expertly covered the walls with bead board. $200 install new sink cabinet and install new plumbing to the sink Rick used a router to expertly cut out a bit of the solid counter top material to accommodate an electrical outlet just above the counter top $650 reinforce 'sistered beam' below bathroom wall The existing beam under the bathroom wall had deteriorated due to water damage. The damaged area had been cut out by the previous owner and 'sistered' to the beam. Rick removed additional compromised wood and reinforced the 'sistered' beam $100 drop an electrical cable from the circuit breaker in the kitchen wall and install an electric outlet under the house in the crawlspace.

+ -1 moreI don't mind a little discourse, but Rick's views were clearly opposite of our own, and I tried to steer him away. That seemed to just encourage him. While I don't mind having workers with differing political views on site, I feel it is extremely unprofessional to continue on, especially when the home owner is uncomfortable. When Rick mentioned he shoots cats to keep populations in his neighborhood under control, I asked him to leave.
Description of Work: The provider came out to look at our job. We invited him in to our home because it was cold out. He sat in our kitchen for almost two hours talking about everything but our job.

+ 0 moreRick was very punctual. Very polite and explained everything very throughly. There were complications with repairing the door, because a totally new jam needed to be milled. Rick explained all of this after he had pulled the old frame out. The job cost more than we both had anticipated, but Rick was very generous with his time and materials. At all times Rick kept in contact with me to keep me posted ont the progress. The door is wonderful. Is now air tight, and the winter I will not have to worry about putting towels down to block the air flow!. I would recommend RFD Construction to anyone because it is a well done job, minimum time spent to fix a terrible mess the Rick needed to fix for me. I have another door that needs fixed like the one that has just been repaired, but will await until next year to get this door done. Again, I will recommend him to anyone!
