Thank you for your business and we appreciate you taking time out to make a report. We try hard not cut lines or wires while working. In this line of work it, unfortunately, happens from time to time. Hopefully we were able to rectify the situation promptly. Again, thank you for allowing us to complete your landscape project.

Have been with the same landscape company for eight years - as of late they seem stretched pretty thin and not as responsive as years past. Looking to hire a new company - Cody came out and walked property with me - wanted pricing for weekly cutting + spring clean up + mulch. Also wanted a company that would do fall clean-up and trimming + leaves. Cody promised me a quote by the end of the following week - never heard back from him or anyone at The Noll Landscaping Group - very disappointing
Description of Work: Unfortunately provider did nothing except waste my time - I originally had a really good feeling when Cody came out to quote work - called that one wrong

We were so disappointed reading your review and sensing your frustration. We checked with Cody first thing this morning to see what might have happened. We sincerely apologize for this error. In talking with Cody this was a "processing error". Cody remembered meeting with you and has a very specific system in place when he returns from an appointment. The paperwork from that appointment is put into a file until the firm estimate is created. Then that paperwork is moved to another file. For some reason, your paper work was in the file that showed the estimate had been completed. While, we never want to have this happen, it is difficult in the spring to keep track of everything and to be able to "double check". Cody will be in touch today to see if you might at all still be interested. We would love the opportunity to serve your landscape maintenance needs and show you that we are truly a quality landscape company.

This is our third year in working with the Noll Landscape Group. The first two years were completing a landscaping plan for the house we had just moved into which had minimal landscaping and no grass in the back yard. This year was simply to clean up the landscaping and replacing at no cost two plants which did not survive last summer's drought. This is an excellent company to work with. They are responsive to your needs, always do excellent work, and are available for any follow-up issues which might occur. We will definitely continue to work with the Noll Landscape Group.

We met with Mike Noll twice during the design process. Mike was really nice to work with and wanted our input on exactly what we had in mind for our landscape. The installation process went smoothly. Mike was at our home during the installation along with several staff members. We had numerous plants, bushes, flowers and trees installed. We will definitely be using the Noll group for our future landscaping projects.

Before I called Noll, I had some lousy experiences with some local landscape companies. Not here. Susan was kind and friendly, and took the time to understand what I needed for our house. I made sure to call well ahead to make sure I was on the schedule (something I recommend for whoever reads this. CALL in January to make sure you get on the schedule for early spring.) What was especially nice was when Mike Noll called and personally thanked me for choosing his company. That goes a long way for me, and they'll continue to get my business with great treatment like that!

That is a wonderful recommendation to call early!!! Our biggest challenge in this industry is to keep everyone's time line in mind. However, being the VERY seasonal business that we are, it is very difficult to do this while maintaining quality work and keeping our costs to you reasonable! We appreciate your patience with us. Susan is a great listener and a patient and creative designer. Mike always tries to follow up with client's when he can and we appreciate that you understand the value. We truly do appreciate you choosing The Noll Landscape Group!

They are doing a fabulous job. John Lane is the designer. He did all the drawings, all the landscaping design and we worked through all the tweaking and refinements. They had installed trees and shrubs and we had deck put in. They did the pond. They are almost done. They will finish probably this week. The staff is outstanding. They are very easy to work with and good and pleasant. John is very knowledgeable and he actually does some of the work; he is installing all the lights on the deck, the new decking. I can't say enough good about them.
Description of Work: The Noll Landscape Group Inc. removed an old deck and installed a new deck, they also teared down a small pond and built a bigger pond. They installed and trees and shrubs. They planted two dogwood trees, a magnolia tree, two Japanese maple trees. I don't know how many hydrangea bushes. And it's been a total landscape renewal. And we have a long drive beside the side of house it comes to the carriage house where they're lined with limestone and a packed gravel. So, that's what they're in the process of doing now.

First, I want to say that we could not be more pleased with the final product. We have never done anything like this before - either in scope and or in coordinating so many different kinds of work. After talking to five different landscape/hardscape companies, we chose Noll Landscaping, specifically John Lane, who was exceptional to work with. Our reasons for this choice included several factors - overall cost, availability to get the job done by Thanksgiving, our liking the plan presented, and how easy it would be to work with the landscape architect. After getting the initial plan (free with the landscaping installation), making a few revisions upfront, and tweaking it further as work progressed, we now have a really beautiful front yard and curb appeal that has brought our property much closer to its full potential. For a variety of reasons, it was very late in the season to get landscaping done. The work wasn't started until the last week of October and finished in mid-November. Other than the boxwoods, most of the bushes and plants they planted had already lost their foliage. But even with the bare bushes, it looked great when it was finished. The icing on the cake will be seeing it all bloom this spring and summer and then turn colors in the fall. As is common, one thing led to another, primarily at our initiative. In addition to the landscaping, we had the old patio ripped out, some major repair work done to our house exterior, a brick landing jacked up to be level again, huge landscape timbers replaced along the landing and brick sidewalk, electric wiring for a future post lamp buried deep beneath those timbers, our old front yard well pulled out and sealed, tree lighting installed to enhance driveway visibility, a "fireboulder" installed to create a rustic fire pit area, a long gas line installed for the fireboulder, and our old blacktop driveway totally ripped out and repaved. This last job included replacing our old collapsed culvert with a new longer one, and also allowed drainage lines and electrical conduit to go underneath the paving, something John suggested. Obviously all this work entailed using a lot of different businesses, each with their own schedule. When the work actually started, John was usually here at least part of each day, both working and giving his crew direction, making sure it was all well-coordinated. He even had his crew lay the drainage and electrical conduit under the drive, ensuring it was done the way he recommended. And his attention to detail, most notably evident in installing the landscape timbers and flagstone paths, was impressive. We can be really picky, and we thought they did great quality work on everything. Our front yard is mostly wooded, with much of it left natural. We wanted to retain the overall rustic appearance and enhance the natural part of it. We now have stone slab steps leading down from two sliding doors, with two flagstone paths that join another path meandering from one side of the yard to the other. Within that area are lots of shade and partial shade plants as well as ground cover which will spread to cover it totally with time. The plantings go right up to the edge of the woods. There's also a relatively small area of grass where they used sod, still available in November and providing a strong start for grass in a somewhat shady area. There are a number of bushes scattered throughout and several well-placed boulders to add interest. One thing we particularly like is the kind of boulders and flagstone used. We did not want the smooth surface of granite boulders nor did we want the grays, pinks, and lavenders so typical of granite. John recommended a particular stone company where we finally found just what we wanted and at a much better price. The boulders are Green County (IN) Sandstone and the step slabs and flagstone paths are Oklahoma Brown. All are irregular in shape and come in a nice mix of brown tones - much like you'd see on a hike through the woods. While at the stone company, we also saw a beautiful fireboulder that we were intrigued with. We had never seen one before, certainly hadn't planned to have a fire pit, and didn't think we had a use for it. But it was so beautiful, and the more we thought about it, the more we liked the idea. Ours is a 4' x 6' irregularly-shaped boulder with a gas-fed fire pit cut into it. It ended up being the most "fun" part of the project. John created an oval mulched area for it in the back yard, partially imbedded in a wooded area along the back fence. A number of large bushes around the back side will provide a colorful fall backdrop. The seating is free stumps (from our tree service company), which the Noll crew cut down to the right height - some for kids and some for adults. Our children and grandchildren loved making s'mores out there at Thanksgiving. Since we finally repaved the driveway, we also had John design landscaping, hardscaping, and lighting for along the drive - the landscaping mostly around the entrance. Over the years, we've had two major problems with the driveway area: people walking their dogs let them urinate on our bushes at the entrance - killing the foliage - and people backing out of the curvy drive often go off the drive - sometimes totally off and right through the bushes. All the damaged bushes were removed, and boulders have been placed fairly close together along both sides toward the street end. The bushes were replaced with more appropriate plants. Neither the dogs nor the cars can hurt those boulders! Last of all we needed some lighting, but ground lights are too easy to run over. John suggested tree lighting and we were surprised to learn he could place some sample lights temporarily in the tree so we could see the effect and decide if we liked them. We did. He then spent hours and hours working in the trees to place six long-lasting LED lights and get them properly aimed to provide lighting up and down the length of the drive. He even drove by after dark to check them out. They are nice soft lights high in the trees, but aimed down so they don't shine in your eyes as you approach the house. They can be operated manually or by a timer. Drainage away from the house was greatly improved by adding or replacing three buried downspouts. One that was causing particular problems was rerouted further away from the house by extending it underneath the new driveway. All the people we dealt with at Noll were very good. The small crew was very professional, polite, and always tried to answer our questions. They were hard workers, even in the abnormal extreme cold we had in November. When we had occasion to call the office, we were always quickly referred to the right person or offered help if that person was not available. Last of all, we were most appreciative of John, a Purdue-trained landscape architect. He was a good listener as we described our problem area and what we hoped to end up with, which was rather vague. He provided a really good design, didn't miss anything we asked for, and was good in guiding us toward better solutions. He always seemed mindful of costs and how to keep them down.He was very knowledgeable and gave us numerous suggestions for what to plant, always bearing in mind our mostly shady conditions as well as pointing us to plants native to Indiana which he knew would grow well here. To help us make choices, he sent us numerous pages of plant information - a single plant per page - showing a picture, projected growth height and width, seasonal characteristics (such as color, berries, flowers), and required care. He also referred us to local nurseries where we could often see the actual plant. We e-mailed back and forth a lot and he was both thorough and prompt in getting back to us. He was also very flexible as we made changes. Our stated goal for completion was November 16, and it was completed a couple of days early, despite several weather delays and having to coordinate with so many other contractors. The costs were very fair. Being retired, we were always here and we saw how hard they worked. It's very difficult to compare prices between our various estimates since each plan was different. The only specific item we could break out for comparison was the cost for adding a landscape timber back step. The first landscaper said $1825 (including $1406 for labor), over three times as much as Noll's estimate of $576 (including $312 for labor). That's a pretty big difference. But we really chose the landscaper we felt would do the best job for us and it was an added bonus that we got a 5% discount through Angie's List - about a $1000 savings. We love driving up the driveway. We still have more landscaping we would like to have done, especially now that we see what a difference it can make, and Noll will be the company we call.
Description of Work: 1. Landscaping - front yard, driveway entrance, and around a new fire pit in the backyard 2. Hardscaping - rebuilt timber border along front sidewalk and landing, rebuilt timber steps down from house to yard in the backyard, installed two sets of stone slab steps in front yard as well as various flagstone paths and also boulders in landscape and along driveway edge 3. Installed lighting in trees along driveway 4. Improved drainage by adding and replacing buried downspouts and extending one to go underneath the driveway 5. Provided landscape plan for long term use

iWe started working with John in late November. He visited with us about what ideas we had and then he presented us with several initial design renderings. Over the next several weeks he helped us to refine the design and really helped us to finalize what the finished product would look like. The initial bid for the project was over our budget, but John was very willing to help us modify the plan to get back in our budget, but still keep the overall design intact. He also worked with us to pick out the materials and plants that made a cohesive look to the project. The installation of the project was started in mid-March as promised and they worked every day that the weather allowed. The crew doing the installation was very friendly and professional. They cleaned up everyday and did a great job keeping us informed what was to be done each day. The work was completed when promised and we are very pleased with the quality of the workmanship. We didn't realize when the job was quoted that there was and Angie's List discount available. We asked if we could use the discount after the fact and they readily adjusted the final invoice to include the discount. We would willingly recommend Noll Landscape Group to anyone wanting to improve their landscape.
Description of Work: We first met the Noll Landscape Group at the Indy Flower and Patio show last year. My wife and I have wanted to enlarge our patio and add some additional landscaping beds to our back yard. We worked with John Lane, one of their designers, to design a new paver patio and new planting beds to add some privacy around the new patio. The Noll team removed the old patio and installed the hardscape and new beds. They relocated some existing trees and shrubs and added new plantings and boulders.

John and his team did a wonderful job on our hardscape & landscape project. John was very helpful and patient in assisting us with the design and coming up with options to meet our needs and our budget. He brought over hardscape samples to ensure they meet our needs and mapped out the hardscape project on our yard to offer us a visual representation. Once the project began, the team was punctual and completed the project with quality and on-time. John supervised the project and again was there to make adjustments as we requested during the installation. Overall, we could not be more happy with the quality of work and the professionalism demonstrated by John and the team. We would highly recommend John and the Noll Landscape team.

We had some delays getting started, mostly due to the weather. Also the beginning of the project seemed to drag as there were only two workers on site. Once things got underway, though, everything went well. All our questions were addressed quickly and the end result is beautiful. After the patio was installed, the landscaping went quickly with more workers onsite. We are happy customers.
Description of Work: We had several contractors out for estimates and decided to go with Noll based on their responsiveness and pleasing design. We wanted one company that could provide both paver patio design and installation as well as landscape design and installation. Other companies left us hanging for weeks or only provided one service or the other. We had a 16X20 foot paver patio installed along with steps from our screened porch. The additon of beds and landscaping around the patio as well as beds, trees and plantings in other areas of the backyard really completed the look we were after.

The entire project was great - from the beginning to end. We had a large area in our back yard that was very shady by our pool and multiple attempts at growing grass failed. I explained this and the fact that I wanted something low maintenance to the landscape architect, John Lane, and he came back with a wonderful plan - and added a nice touch of upgrading our lighting system as well! We continued to work with Susan who had planned and executed our initial landscaping plan last year. Susan Gerdom submitted several alternative landscaping designs based on our inputs. We ended up choosing a plan that was a bit of a hybrid of two of her designs. The work crew worked quickly and efficiently. All of the plants were healthy. We managed to nurse them through the summer drought and heat wave and it looks as if they will make it through the winter. Time will tell. Bottom line, we really enjoyed our experience with Noll Landscape.

John was attentive and very responsive as well as extremely easy to work with. Because our project extended into our neighbor's yard, he was willing to meet with us and our neighbors to explain the project and to ensure all questions were answered before work began. The crew doing the work did a great job, cleaned up at the end of each day, and left us with a nice looking finished project. We were impressed that the entire team seemed to be in good communication with one another and when we had questions or concerns it appeared that they were addressed and communicated to the team. We plan to use this company again for some additional work.
Description of Work: They cleared an overgrown 'jungle' at the back of our yard/wooded area. Removed numerous tree stumps of varying sizes. The stumps were dug out instead of being ground out. Re-routed our sump line to storm drain in neighbor's yard. Regraded the yard to improve drainage and extended the grass line further back into the wooded area. Planted grass seed for newly graded areas. Extended and buried all downspouts. Planted hostas and mulched an area between grass and wooded area.

I had a portion of my backyard along my back fence that was just dirt and some plants put in. It provided us no privacy when we were in our backyard. I had gone to the Flower and patio show earlier this year and talked with many of the landscape designers at the show. When I talked with Mike Noll, there was no high pressure sales pitch but just a mention that they can come out and look over my yard and give some suggestions. Susan Gerdom, one of their designers, came out and as we talked it became more of working with us to provide a basic design to provide us a design that would provide privacy and make some sense of the random plantings that were currently in our backyard. Susan was great to work with. She listened to what we were looking for and came back with some drawings. It took a few revisions as we make some changes to some of the plantings to get the design just right to what we were looking for. Once we had the design work done, we got on their schedule. They kept us informed as the date when they would come over to do our yard was firmed up. They called the night before letting us know that they would be out and start the work. They arrived early and three of their workers started clearing out the area for the new plantings. Susan came out as the plantsing were going in to help with placements and desing considerations. There was no clean up necessary on my oart as they left the yard and work areas perfectly free of debris. Mike called he next day to see how it all went. I would recommend Noll Landscaping and hire them again.
Description of Work: Had the area along my back property line redesigned with new trees and shrubs to provide privacy and a landscape foundation. Existing plants, removed, and replanted to provide more interest.

It is always wonderful to hear that a job goes just as we had hoped it all would, with proper communication, follow up and done to the specifications and likings of the client. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this comment and the detailed information you provided. We look forward to working with you on future landscape projects.

Noll Landscaping provides the common-area maintenance for our community. In order to simplify, we hired Noll Landscape to do our annual spring clean-up instead of the company we have used for the past three years. This was a huge mistake. 1. Our appointment was originally scheduled for the week of May 14. When nobody appeared, I call the office which informed me the date had been pushed back two weeks. I understand that weather and other factors can cause delays, but, a phone call would have been appropriate. 2. Instead of removing the single purple plant in the front yard, they removed every purple plant around the perimeter of the house - about ten. These were large, healthy, blooming plants which they replaced with small seedlings --- and charged me for the service. 3. The remainder of the work was mediocre at best. They originally did not even weed the beds, just put down some per-emergent weed killer. The pruning had to be re-done as there was still significant dead brush in the bushes/plants. Our Crew Supervisor was punctual and friendly. The central office was not. I really expected to see some kind of compensation on my invoice, but, there was none. I just paid it and know not to use this company going forward. UPDATE: I posted the above negative review a few years ago. I appreciated the sincerity and promptness of their follow-up and decided to give Noll another shot. They did excellent work on our flowers and garden area. We will continue to use them going forward.
Description of Work: I requested the following services: 1. Bed clean-up and pruning 2. Weed, till and add ground fill to a small garden 3. Remove a dying/deformed purple plant in the front yard 4. Spot-seed some bare grass patches on our back lawn

We are very sorry for your disappointment with our work, our communication and our service. We truly do strive to do the best that we can for all of our clients. We are always extremely disappointed ourselves when we hear of any client dissatisfaction. We ALWAYS take the criticism of our clients very seriously and truly look at how we can improve and learn from our mistakes. We appreciate your honesty. The communication error is enexcusable and we have already set new procedures in place to properly communicate with our clients during the extremely busy spring season. At this point, Mike Noll has been in touch with you and we have replaced the plants that were removed in error. We will also be on a program to fertilize these plants for you so that they can as quickly as possible return to the size of plant that you were used to seeing in that location. We have senta a reimbursement check to you for the improper billing of this service. While we understand your frustration and know that our chances of working with you again is small, we would honor the opportunity to do so to show the quality of work that is typical for us and can show the reason that we have been in business for over 21 years.

I met with Don on 4/9/12 to receive an estimate for my project. I requested sod installation and flower bed clean-up and mulching. He took a few minutes to ask me some questions, then stated he would email me a quote (separate quotes for sod and seed). I had another company come out later that same day, who told me I would need additional topsoil to help fill in the uneven areas in my yard. I decided to go with Noll Landscaping as their price was much better than the other company. I requested that topsoil be brought in to help even out the grade. I was assured that topsoil would likely not be needed and that the ground would be graded level. At the time of the estimate, the current waiting period was 3-4 weeks. I asked for work to be completed the second week of May and sent in my 1/3 deposit. The week before scheduled service, I was emailed and informed that the project would be pushed back into the third week of May. By Friday of that week, I still hadn't been told what day the installation would occur, so I emailed Don to ask. I was informed the work would be pushed back again to the following week. I called Don to express my disappointment as I really need the project done by Memorial Day. This project finally got started and completed on 5/22/12 - 6 weeks after they had gotten my deposit. The yard look really nice when I got home. Due to the recent temperatures, I had been using the irrigation system more frequently. My irrigation system does not have a lot of pressure in the system, so I have to run it slightly longer to get the same effect. I asked the men who were there for the install exactly how much to water it and explained what I was currently doing. I was told that the current amount of watering was just right. I received a voicemail from the owner a few days later asking if I was satisfied with the job. I had gotten a chance to take a look at the job more thoroughly and saw that one section of the yard that was lower than the rest prior to the job, was still low. I called back to express my disappointment with this, especially after asking Don twice about being sure that topsoil was used if needed; no topsoil had been brought in. I did not get to speak to the owner, and was referred back to Don who called me the following day. I was blatantly told that I was watering it way too much and this is why that one section was lower than the rest. I thought this sounded weird, but decided to back off on the watering as suggested. Don told me he would come out the following week if it hadn't improved. No change in the area that was low the following week, so I called back. I was told he would be out that Friday. He never came out that Friday. I received an email the following Monday that he would come out Tuesday to inspect the lawn. He told me that the low section was graded that way on purpose to allow for drainage and that there was no standing water. We haven't gotten a good rain in almost 2 months, so of course there would be no standing water. I told him the area that was low had high ground all around it and could have been done intentionally for "drainage" purposes. He agreed to come out with tools to add topsoil underneath the area in a few days. I was emailed the following day saying that the irrigation head in that area would be left low if they put more topsoil in, and that this could create a whole new problem. I asked if the irrigation head could be adjusted and brought up. He said this would be able to be done but I would have to pay for parts and labor. At this point, the sod has completely taken hold and a simple lifting of the sod and placing topsoil underneath could not be done. I was extremely disappointed and decided not to have them do anymore work for me. I was then emailed back and told that I still had a balance on my account that was past due. I was contacted by the owner after posting my original Angie's List review. He came out promptly and addressed the issue in question quickly. I appreciate the fast response, but wish I hadn't had to go all the way to Angie's List before getting the problem rectified. I would consider using Noll Landscaping in the future, but would make sure the work and expectations were well understood ahead of time. Overall the landscaping looks good and I'm satisfied with what I ended up getting.
Description of Work: I had Noll Landscaping install sod, clean out and mulch flower beds in my backyard.

We so very much appreciate the time and effort you have put into the honesty and thoroughness of your response. As we have stated before in our responses to a bad "grade" with Angie's List, we do always try to learn from our mistakes. We feel terrible that this learning on our part has to be at the dissatisfaction of any of our clients. Please accept our sincere apology for the lack of communication. While this is a very difficult industry to follow a "schedule", it is inexcusable that we fail to communicate with our clients. We have already put new procedures in place to better handle the communication with our clients especially during the very busy spring season. Mike Noll takes these concerns VERY seriously and was able to get in touch with you to discuss this situation further. He has been to the property and walked it with you. We have been out to add soil and fix the irrigation situation. We are hoping that this rectifies the situation for you. Once again thank you for your honesty.

Even though their description of services on Angie's List includes Bartholomew County as part of their service area,Noll Landscape Group informed me there would be a charge of $ 150 to come to Columbus, IN for the purpose of looking at myproperty to provide a proposal/quote.This tells me that Bartholomew County really is not part of their service territory, so I suggest that they remove it from their service area, or mention the up front service fee.
Description of Work: I contacted Noll Landscape Group LLC to obtain a quote for some landscaping work at my home in Columbus, IN.

Never returned a message requesting a quote.
Description of Work: We requested a quote within Angie's List and have never heard from them. I understand that this is the busy season, but you should at least return calls to people that want to do business with you.

I am sorry that we did not reply earlier but I had been out of town, I was dealing with a family medical situation. Upon my return, I did respond to the request. As I stated to the homeowner we would very happy to meet with them at a time that would work for them and for them to contact our office directly. We appreciate and take serious all request that we receive but unfortunately, as we have all faced, certain situations that the good Lord throws at us require our immediate attention and others do not.

They do an A one work. Their cleanup is beautiful. I think it is a good average price. They did a beautiful work on mulching. They give me estimate in writing. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: I use The Noll Landscape Group Inc for lawn and yard work. They come on every Tuesday to mow my lawn. They did the mulching for me. It’s $45 a week for mowing the lawn. Whenever they mow, they edge every time. I paid $450 to do the dog area.
