The experience was horrible from the start. After cleaning the carpet, the technician sprayed a "deodorizer" instead of a "sanitizer," and the sanitizer perfume odor was so strong that the top 2 levels of our house smelled so bad that we had to sleep in the basement. I asked them to come back and re-clean the carpet to get the odor out (from their deodorizer). Instead of arriving at our house with carpet cleaning equipment, they brought an "ozone generator." They convinced me that they needed to "clean the air" before cleaning the carpet. I was very uneasy about putting ozone into our house, but Jeff Hendricks (the VP) convinced me that it was completely safe. He said they would then come back and clean the carpet 2 days later, after the ozone generator had run for 16 hours. When we opened the door to our daughter's room when they came back to clean the carpet 2 days later, there was a strong chemical smell (different than the deodorizer smell they were attempting to eliminate). They were surprised about the odor, but assured me that it would be gone after a few days. The odor NEVER went away. After many hours of research and phone calls, I found that the ozone reacted with the latex paint on the walls, and caused off-gassing of formaldehyde and other organic gasses on the walls. The ozone also reacted with the olefin in the carpet. Both fire restoration companies that I talked to said that the ozone generator never should have been used in this situation, and that the machines should be restricted to use in severe cases for removal of smoke damage from fires. We also found that Smith-Mathis mis-used the ozone machine. The owner's manual states that it is to be used "for commercial use only, not for residential usage," "use in uninhabited areas," and use it for only "20-60 minutes for a hotel-size room" (the room is smaller than a hotel room, and they used it for 16 hours!). When I contacted Smith-Mathis with my findings, at first they denied any responsibility (Jeff was very rude and hostile on the phone, I might add), but then after we sent them a threatening letter, they agreed to cooperate by submitting a claim to their insurance company. Their insurance company denied payment of the claim (without even coming to the house and examining the property). We then requested payment directly from Smith-Mathis, in writing by certified letter, and they have not responded, so we assume they have no intent to resolve the situation. We have requested to be re-imbursed an amount of $2,000 ($200 for cleaning of the walls, ceiling and furniture in the bedroom and closet-using vinegar and baking soda to neutralize the chemicals, $800 for having the walls and ceiling primed (to seal-in the chemicals) and painted in the bedroom and closet, $1,000 for replacement of carpet in the bedroom). We feel this request is very reasonable...actually low, considering the great inconvenience this has caused us. Our daughter wasn't able to sleep in her bedroom for 4 months while we have dealt with Smith-Mathis trying to get this resolved! Not to mention the countless hours spent investigating the problem and the stress it has caused us. We finally had the walls cleaned and primed with money out of our own pockets.

It went very well. I called in the morning, the company sent Dave out in the afternoon just like they said they would. Dave came in and we showed him the spot. He began his work immediately and finished up in a timely manner.

Once I was provided with an estimate about a week earlier, Dave, the technician showed up promptly at 12:30 p.m. I showed him which carpet and stairs were scheduled to be cleaned and which chair and couch. He brought his equipment in from the truck and proceeded to clean my La-Z-Boy chair first, then my couch, moving furniture around as necessary. He worked very efficiently and was finished in a little more than two hours. With my original estimate, I was told that he would be there for the entire afternoon. He told me that the carpet needed to dry overnight and he put pieces of paper under chairs and foam blocks under other furniture and said that I could remove them the next morning. He also turned the ceiling fan on in my living room to help dry the carpet and couch. I was very pleased with the work. He got major stains out of the carpet and did a special kind of cleaning around the edges of the room. I had to ask him questions about when I could return the room to normal and he answered them to my satisfaction.

They were professional and they did a good job. Their prices were good. The quality was good and I will use them again. They give discounts.

The service man arrived as promised, went straight to his work, and was done and gone in about one hour. This was a very straight forward, simple job that went smoothly and to our satisfaction.

They picked it up in a timely manner and delivered exactly when they said they would. We got them from Angie?s List. I think their work is wonderful, better than we have ever had. I will continue to use them in the future.

David, the one sent to do the work, put the furniture on "slides" that made it easier for him to move. And, not leaving marks on carpet. He was on time and very considerate to me.

I scheduled an appointment for a free estimate. The company rep showed up on time and was thorough and quick at giving me an estimate. He answered my questions and helped me schedule the appointment for 2 days later. The carpet cleaner showed up on time and got to work right away. Both men were very nice and pleasant. The carpet and furniture look great.

They are very professional and did a good quality job. They were easy to work with and were able to clean some carpets that I did not think possible to clean.

I ran water into a laundry room sink, went off to the kitchen to get a bowl, and forgot about the water! It ran for 25 minutes, flooding our dining room and running down through the basement ceiling and into the basement walls. Dave Pope came within 90 minutes of my phone call on Labor Day, measured the moisture levels in walls and carpet, established a plan to dry out the wet walls, ceiling, and carpet, and gave me a clear estimate of the cost. He worked very efficiently for about two hours, and either he or owner Buddy Smith came every two days to check the progress until the drying-out was complete. I appreciated the fact that he tried to be very conservative so that drywall would only have to be patched, not replaced. Dave cleaned the dining room and hallway carpet, which had awful water stains, and it looks like new. The drying of one wall took longer than Dave anticipated, but there was no charge for the additional trips to check on progress or for having the fans in place for extra days.

Other than a slighly late arrival, things went very smoothly. He was very professional and caring.

I found them on Angie's List and everything was wonderful. They did a very good job and I was very satisfied with their work. They cleaned it so well that it really looks beautiful now.

We got a call from Pat Murray to set a time the next day. He came when promised and did a wonderful job. I was very pleased to see Pat as he had been to our home several years ago and removed a bad stain due to a roof leak. Once again Pat did a great job and in a very short time our carpet looked great once more. Be sure to ask for Pat, he is very good.

They do a very good job, punctual, and clean things up. I have used them several times.

The technician was SUPER polite and knowledgable. He was able to remove an unsightly stain left for us by the previous owners of this house. He was not able, though, to get all of the doggy urine smell. We weren't able to discover that until the carpet was dry. He did warn me that might be the case. My only complaint, and I don't know if it is really a valid one, is that I was not warned how awful the cleaners smell. I got sick to my stomach and felt like vomiting. I had a headache that lasted for over a day. Had I known about the stench the cleaners emit I would have had my husband stay home while the cleaning was done. I left a home with beautiful hardwood floors, and I must say that I hate going back to carpet. But until we can get the floors replaced, we'll stick with Smith-Mathis for our carpet cleaning needs.

This is the 4th year straight that we have used Smith Mathis and they do an excellent job. The gentleman that did our carpets was excellent. He was very professional, went above and beyond in all cleaning, and was very nice. I would highly recommend Smith Mathis. Great pricing too!!

Pat did a fabulous job in removing some deep-set stains and making my carpet and chairs look new and fresh again.

Their price was pretty reasonable, and they were able to come out here on the date and at the time that we needed them to. We were going to be home only during the day on certain days during the Christmas vacation, because my husband and I are both teachers. We moved the things like the bed and the night stands but they moved everything else. The carpet is about 6 years old and it was buckled for almost half a year, and they stretched it right back into place. The carpet looks wonderful now. The man who came out and did the job actually did a little extra for us - he went above and beyond what he needed to do.

I was very pleased with the service.

The carpet cleaning and patch went very well except when my dog later pulled up the patch later that evening. Otherwise the carpet looks great. Our technician Dave was very courteous and professional.

When scheduling the appt., the woman was extremely nice and precise regarding the cost. The man who performed the carpet called the night before to confirm. He came out on a Saturday and was prompt. He did a great job and was very professional and friendly. The cost was great. I would hire them again.
