Bruce and his staff were wonderful. We always looked forward to taking our puppy to class each week and truly enjoyed the time spent at First Friends K9 for dog obedience training. Bruce is very professional and is excellent at what he does. We learned so much in the classes, especially how to properly care for our puppy and feel comfortable doing so (i.e. trimming nails, brushing, cleaning ears, brushing teeth). We are better pet owners because of the courses we participated in at First Friends K9. I highly recommend joining a class or two of Bruce's. We hope to continue with Advanced training or Agility training in the future!
Description of Work: We enrolled our puppy in a 6-week Puppy Class and loved it so much, we continued with the Novice Class for 8 weeks following the completion of the Puppy Class.

Each week we received new lessons and then practiced with class and at home. Overall good behavior lessons for dog. Always ran over and that was an issue for me (work conference call that I was late for).

I honestly don't have a bad thing to say about him. I would recommend him to everyone. Everyone from friends to family to neighbors that walk past our house are amazed that our 5 month old puppies can stay in our yard without running after or barking at them. You need to take your dogs here.
Description of Work: Bruce was a great instructor. He had a schedule and he stuck with it. You would be amazed between the performances of the dogs from the first class compared with their last class. Every single dog improved in every aspect from obedience to their tricks. The only bad thing I had to say about the class was that some of the clients didn't do their homework. They would hold back the class and kept the other dogs from striving in their training even more. P.S.You will also find out that every single one of the people that complain about First Friends are either people who 1) Don't do their homework or 2) Are afraid to discipline their dogs. Bruce and his staff were wonderful. We signed up our 3 dogs for the next set of classes. I can't wait to have my dogs up the same standard of obedience that Bruce has with his German Shepherds.

I took Louie on a Monday. Mid week our trainer called with an update. One week later it was like I picked up a new dog. The trainers work with you at pick up time so you are comfortable with the commands and your dog's progress. I recommend taking your dog when you are planning a vacation. The cost of training covers boarding including food. I got a 10% discount because I was an Angie's list member. Try asking.
Description of Work: We took our one year old puppy Louie for a one week in kennel obedience training. He barked constantly, jumped on people, stole food, took our daughter's stuffed animals, and generally frustrated me to no end. I trained dogs for a number of years, but with full time work and a family, I just didn't have the time to devote to training him properly. After one week, he is a new dog. One or two corrections a day and he is perfectly behaved. They taught him sit, stay, heel, down, off, leave it, Aut (No), come, walking on a leash, and familiarity with other dogs. They also provide more advanced training, but for a family pet, this was perfect. I highly recommend their services.

The training was about a $100.00 for an eight week class and four days boarding was $130.00. The training was okay and it was not a group class. I would not board there again. They were very responsive.

The program was great - Bruce and his staff were wonderful with all of the dogs there, from those who were exemplary students to those who were having difficulty paying attention. Handlers ranged from children to adults and everyone seemed to have benefited greatly from the class. My goal was to get my dog to walk properly with me. Mission accomplished!! When we walk using the pinch collar, he knows it's time to heel and pay attention to me. I was amazed! I'm very very pleased with the outcome. I would recommend First Friend K9 to anyone who needs to help their dog learn some manners. Their price was very reasonable too!

My pet had an aggression problem. They are very good. My pet has not really improved so I did not have a good experience. the trainers are dedicated and they are serious about their job. They are good at phone calling and follow ups. I will not go to them since they do not have experience with aggressive dogs.

We had an excellent experience from the get go. We live approximately 45 minutes from facility. If it weren't for that I would use them all the time for doggie day care and grooming.
Description of Work: Puppy Kindergarten - excellent class! Grooming. Since it was our puppy Jaxx's first time, the groomer suggested we bring him early so he could hang out and get familiar with his surroundings. She did an excellent job. I would have continued to use First Friend K-9 for this service but the location is not close to our home:( I did take advantage of their doggie daycare and was very pleased with that as well.

They are very good with the animals and it's a small company. You get to meet the owners and they are always there and highly involved with their customers. The pricing for the grooming is on the upper end but for the training it is competitively priced.

We brought our excitable puppy for two weeks of training and were really pleased at how well he behaved when we picked him up. He had learned how to sit, stay and not jump up. The trainer was wonderful. She gave us instructions on training on how to enforce his learning. We also were very pleased with the facility in general. Everything was clean and neat. We also had them groom our dog and he looked really good when ey were done.

We loved all the classes. Bruce and his entire staff are amazing. The classes are really for the owner (you must be dedicated), and as long as you follow the recommendations and do your homework, you will have a new dog. Bruce and his staff obviously sincerely care about dogs and want you to be the best owner you can for your dog and to help you have a well behaved dog. I would recommend taking your dog when they are young. It was so much easier to train our puppy (even though he is deaf) than to break our 9 year old dog of her bad habits. They may be a little more expensive than other trainers but are well worth it. If we ever get another dog, I am definitely taking them here.

I began using the facility for puppy daycare and wound up doing an obedience - great service, great staff, great results! I continue to use their daycare, but also bring the children with Autism that I work with in to have a great time with their well trained dogs!
Description of Work: First Friend has provided incredible training services for my puppy. She learned all of the concepts promised in the time alloted with great coaching and encouragement from the First Friend K-9 Training staff. Additaionlly, they have gone above and beyond in continuing that training with socializing my dog in their daycare program. This organizaiton has done even more for the children with Autism I work with by allowing them to volunteer at their facility and work with their well-trained dogs. This is an amazing business that I am very thankful to have found! Truly a gem.

Overall, we were very pleased with the experience, and we plan to return for novice class once our wee man is old enough (5.5 months). It's important to bear in mind that dog training isn't necessarily linear; particularly in this terrible heat wave this summer, there have been some days when the puppy has been a lot to handle. But Bruce's training focuses not only on the dog's behavior, but also on the owner's world view -- reminding us each week that our dogs give us unconditional love and that 60% of owners get rid of their dogs. It's an important context to provide for the experience: a few hours of effort in the early stages can prevent the problems that cause people to throw up their hands. You can tell that the whole team are animal lovers as well as trainers, even if Bruce's packaging is a bit more gruff. :)
Description of Work: We have been participants in the six-week puppy kindergarten class that started in early June. The first week is orientation without the puppies present, and the following five sessions are hands-on training with the dogs. The first session with all the dogs overwhelmed us a bit -- how could we possibly learn and teach anything to a 12 week-old puppy with 40 other puppies in the room (despite it being mind-bogglingly cute)? To Bruce's credit, he walked right up to this issue and assured us that we'd all see progress. With graduation less than a week away, we have, in fact, seen enormous progress with our puppy. He sits and stays on command, does not jump on new people anymore, and is really beginning to be a true delight to walk. Because this class is only 90 minutes per week, it is really incumbent upon you as a dog owner to do your homework each week -- three 15-minute trainings a day, every day (with only one session allowed to take place in your home). While it might sound like a lot, the effort is hugely worthwhile. As first-time dog owners, we are especially grateful for Bruce and his staff's recommendations and best practices from their experience -- the new food we are feeding our little guy has resulted in a MUCH shinier coat, and he is downright obsessed with his real antler chew toy.

This is our third dog and we trained the first two ourselves, but Gizmo turned out to be more than we could handle. We signed up for obedience classes when we had reached the end of our rope. The classes have been a huge help and we now have a much happier home. Bruce is definitely serious about the training and expects the dog owners to spend a lot of time working with their dogs between classes, but the results have been well worth it. This training is as much for the owner as it is for the dog. If you are willing to put the effort in between classes, the price is a steal. Bruce also encourages feedback from his students/customers with weekly emails. If you can stand the funny looks you will get from your neighbors while you are running straight at your sitting dog or walking around in circles in your nieghborhood, you will be glad you signed up for these classes.

Very well - we have always felt they did a good job of training here which is why when we got our new puppy almost 3 years ago, this was the first place we thought of going to.
Description of Work: We took our puppy to First Friend for puppy obedience training. We had also taken our 2 previous puppies there for training. The owner & his assistants did a great job at helping to socialize our puppy, to learn how to groom him (brush teeth & brush fur), walk him, sit/stay/come commands. The only negative is I think they had too many people/dogs in the class. It was very crowded, and we would have liked a smaller group.

They are genuinely concerned about the animals. Their training methods are balanced between positive and negative. They make sure that the owner is informed and know how to properly care for their dog - help with grooming, foods/diets, medical issues, etc. The owners also have to go through a 2 hour pre-training session to make sure that owners know the process and are ready to handle having a dog.

After the first lesson we decided it wasn't for us. First Friends agreed to refund our $99. After a few weeks, they never sent the money so I called them and they very politely said they would send the money. I made 2 additional phone calls and spoke to them and each time they appologized and said they would send the refund right away. They finally refunded me after 3 months.
