I apparently had unrealistic expectations. They provided a 3-d drawing with upgrades only incorporating general ideas that were shared at the time they came to our house. There were no significant recommendations as to possible alternatives, etc. Also, in the meantime we had been to a couple of places to look at granite and had a good idea of cost and variety. What was presented by affordable was very limited.

We are very sorry this member wasn't satisfied with the overall design and we are happy to redo or create new designs at no charge. We thought we had accomplished the members goals in our design and we are not sure where the communication breakdown occurred. We met with [member name removed], the husband, at their home for the initial visit. [member name removed] wasn’t available and [member name removed] did not want to change the cabinets or remove the perimeter bulk head. He basically wanted a cosmetic upgrade and it was a stretch to get him to consider painting the stained wood ceiling and the underside of the perimeter bulkhead. He was not interested in any significant alternatives. [member name removed]had difficulty (according to [member name removed]) visualizing what the space could look like, so we created a rendering based on the requests. We presented the proposed budget and design to [member name removed] as [member name removed] wasn’t available. Our Proposed design eliminated a red painted bulkhead over the island; added a bookcase cabinet facing the Family Room; painted the island, new countertops, tile backsplash; U/C lights; painting ceiling and underside of perimeter bulkhead; and new lights over island. Again we are very sorry for our failure to meet the members expectations and we are happy to provide complimentary new designs and drawings.

We are currently in the process of having the project done. The floor is ready to install and we are waiting on the paint to finish. I really liked their selection. They are easy to work with and have a designer on site to help you with color choices. They do other services besides flooring and are an all around company. I had no problem scheduling the service and they were great at following through.

Great! Very exciting to see the possibilities. They showed me 3 different options for redesigning my kitchen and let me choose the one I liked best before printing the drawings.
Description of Work: They came out and listened to my ideas, took measurements and designed a new kitchen layout. I was presented with 3D drawings from several angles and actual sample materials while at the showroom.

We started off having to rework their contract because it was very one-sided. I like my kitchen, but I felt that the process was somewhat difficult. It just did not seem to run very smoothly and I do think that they are expensive. The end product was okay, but when I spoke with the woman who did my design there were two things I wanted. I wanted to have the kitchen look like it was pieces of furniture rather than just aligned up. I also wanted bead board inserts on my cabinets. So we finished the whole design process and I signed off on it. Then she called me and said that cabinet maker did not make bead board inserts. So I was either going to have to start completely over on a new design using another manufacturer's information or give up on my bead board. That annoyed me. I thought that was one of the things that you had to have and that she should have checked with that manufacturer. So I ended up with some things that I just did not want because I was either going to have to prolong the whole thing or I would have to give up some of my preferences.

We greatly appreciate any feedback that we can use to grow and better serve our clients and wish this information had been provided any time during the process or even at the end so that we could have the opportunity to make things right but unfortunately we were given the indication our client was very happy. However, there does seem to be some confusion regarding the events. Our contract was written and developed by a very large and prominent firm in downtown Indianapolis to be fair to both parties so everyone would feel comfortable with the transaction. In our ten years of business we have been requested to change the contract one other time so I believe that is a pretty good indication the fairness of our contract. In this case our client had a son that was in commercial construction and wanted to add some things that were advised against by our counsel but we were very willing to find a middle ground and incurred the extra costs to do so. With any remodel there are ups and downs and periods of frustration and apparently we did not do a good job setting the expectation based on this feedback. There wasn’t anything outside of a normal remodel that happened here. There appears to be confusion between the proposal/design phase and signing off on the design. The design does not get signed off until contract and we re-worked the original design several times to meet her requested price point relative to the design she wanted. We have several manufacturers and not all offer the same products so part of the design process it trying to get the most value for the money spent relative to the manufacturer we use. We are also a little confused on this because once the final contract was drafted and designs were submitted there was between a month to six weeks of downtime before we were given final signoff so there was plenty of time to make any additional changes needed. We were actually very surprised by this because everything requested of us was a rush and then we were put on hold. Overall, I think the biggest thing we can take from these comments is that our communication needs to be spot on and we need to do our very best in communicating expectations and understanding our customer’s needs, emotions, and feelings so that we can provide a better overall experience.

The staff at The Affordable Companies was top-notch throughout the entire process from beginning to end. Their knowledge, experience, and expertise was crucial in my choosing the best flooring and fixtures to match my existing design and future desires, perfectly! They stuck with me through my constant questions and indecisiveness, not once making me feel like I was a nuisance or being ridiculous. They were always there and willing to help, making me feel comfortable throughout the decision-making process. I was very impressed with their installation, as well. I have dealt with businesses that were not prompt and had no consideration for my home. The folks at The Affordable Companies were very prompt and attentive, always on-time and very cognizant of my home, taking every precaution not to damage a thing. They have gone above and beyond to ensure my happiness in this stressful process. I LOVE MY NEW FLOORS and BATHROOM!!! I highly recommend The Affordable Companies to anyone looking to do any remodeling work on their homes!

By far the worst remodeling job we have ever experienced. Even worse than the time the interior designer we were working with skipped town with her client?s money leaving her business partner behind to deal with the fallout. The runaway interior designer may have been a thief ? but our condo looked fabulous. Initially, the Affordable staff seemed capable of handling our project. We gave them complete control over product selection: sink, ovens, faucet, cabinets, counter, tile, etc. After signing the contract, problems started immediately. Here is a sampling: 1. Three days before the project was to begin, we realized the kitchen design was incorrect ? it did not take into account the size of one of the ovens (recommended by Affordable). We contacted our project leader who confirmed the design would not work and came up with a new design. 2. The onsite project manager was inexperienced. Normally, this isn?t a problem ? you?ve got to learn sometime ? but ? someone with experience should have been overseeing and instructing him on how to handle the job. Based on the endless problems encountered during the remodel, he was apparently left to learn on his own. 3. Affordable?s definition of project management. They do not schedule 3rd party appliance installs. Project management was the primary reason my husband contacted Affordable about our kitchen remodel. In the past, he had to take on more tasks related to our remodels and wanted someone to take care of all the details. True project management is managing the entire project ? not just the people who work for your company. Had we known up front they did not manage the entire scope of a project, we would have never signed a contract. Measurement errors: · The induction cooktop countertop hole was too small. (Clark Appliances discovered this when they came to install the cooktop) · Incorrect cabinet measurement. The cabinet by the window was incorrectly sized and had to be reordered so the cabinet spacing around the window would be equal. · And the biggest error by far is the spacing of the faucet placement in relationship to our window and backsplash. Less than ½ inch for the faucet handle to operate, which did not allow enough room to turn the water on without hitting the wall (original faucet) or hitting the blind (replacement faucet that we purchased) Other problems: · Not enough cabinet handles ordered · Original garbage disposal installed did not work · One of the men turned off the breaker for our furnace before we needed heat and didn?t turn it back on when they were finished working on the electrical for the island. Days later (when we needed heat) and turned the furnace on it did not work. We assumed the furnace had a problem. The repairman who came out said the breaker had been shut off. That cost us $150. · The lights were either on backorder (or one worker told us they hadn?t been ordered on time to meet the installation date) ? either way, no one communicated to us there would be a delay in getting the lights installed. Examples of poor workmanship: 1. A few cabinets had chips in the interior and pinholes in the exterior and one even had a nail protruding from the molding in the front of the cabinet in plain view. The carpenter who installed the cabinet left the nail sticking up and painted over it. 2. We asked for electrical outlets to be installed in a cabinet so we could use one shelf in the cabinet as a charging station. One of the outlets was installed so high up in the cabinet we cannot reach it without using a chair and climbing into the cabinet. (Affordable did not charge us for this outlet) 3. Once the job started, a sub-contractor realized some of the crown molding would have to be replaced. The installer didn?t bother to paint the new crown molding to match the rest of the house nor did he clean the debris off the molding before installing it. 4. By far the largest example of poor workmanship was the tile installation. The installer actually installed broken and chipped pieces of tile. The grout spacing was off ? thick in some places, thin in others. The installer justified the chipped and broken tiles saying the tile was difficult to install. He did remove the broken and (some of) the chipped tiles but left the uneven grout lines and chipped tiles in the corners. The final straw for us was the faucet installation. We could not turn the water on because the faucet was installed too close to the wall. When I contacted our project leader to report the problem and ask about exchanging the faucet, I was told the faucet could not be returned since it was considered installed; we would be charged for it. Taken aback by this information, we called a manager at Affordable who said they would credit our account for the faucet. There is no way we should have ever been told we would have to pay for the faucet. The only reason we requested it be replaced was because the sink/faucet measurement was incorrect and we could not turn the water on. During our last conversation (during the project) with an employee from Affordable we asked about installing a new faucet and was told it would cost $588 to install. The install price seemed high but we were told that was what Affordable would be charged to install it (subsequent plumbers quoted us $160-$200) The only change we requested during the entire project was for the garbage disposal to be moved to the larger side of the sink. We were told we were wrong to want it on the other side but they would move it. The conversation got heated and angry words were exchanged, during which time we were told that our project leader had to pay for many corrections related to our project. The crew didn?t bother doing much clean up. My husband took the paper and tape up off the floor. Dust and globs of a plaster-like substance were left on the cabinets and crown molding. Neither the kitchen cabinets nor island scratches were touched up. Within two weeks of the job completion (while running the dishwasher), the plumbing under the kitchen sink gave way and water gushed out onto the kitchen floor. We did not even both to call Affordable to report the problem confident they would send someone who would do a poor repair job of and we would encounter problems at a later date. The plumber from the company who eventually did the repair said some of the drainpipes were the wrong size and improperly placed. That was also the reason why the garbage disposal gurgled when in use. We believed the sales pitch and trusted Affordable would do the job they were paid to do in a professional manner. Individuals above the crew assigned to our job knew things weren?t going right ? at least that is what we were told. Why didn?t someone in management step in and help the man assigned to manage our project? A customer should not be held responsible for any problem resulting from contractor error. Even though they credited our account, we should never have been told that we would have to pay for a faucet that could not be used due to a design error. Eventually, our bill was reduced by $500.00 enough to cover the furnace service call and the unreachable electrical outlet in the cabinet. Months later, the anger has subsided and we are now ready to remove every possible trace that Affordable Companies was ever in our home. To date, a contractor has come in and painted the crown molding. The tile backsplash has been replaced. A contractor is scheduled to adjust some of the cabinet doors so they close correctly and touch up the nail holes/pin p***** left in the cabinets. Unfortunately, we will be left with limited kitchen faucet choices and a window shade ? constant reminders of the poor design done by this company. The most surprising part was how we were apparently considered ?difficult to deal with? and ?hard to please?. All of the problems related to our kitchen project would never have occurred if the job had been properly designed and measured and an experienced project manager assigned. We gave Affordable complete control over design and product selection. Apparently it was forgotten that we paid them to do our kitchen remodel. We are not new to home remodeling and understand problems arise and patience is necessary. We have had four homes remodeled, worked with several designers and contractors and never had a single problem because everyone we have worked with in the past had the skillset, integrity and just plain pride in the work they were doing to make sure the job was done right.

We are deeply disappointed in our ability to make this customer happy, there is a lot of truth in this review and a lot more that should be added from our perspective as well but bottom line we did not leave this customer happy and that is a problem. I’m not going to delve into the details but will tell you that we did make efforts to please this customer and thought we had recovered in the end but it is apparent we did not. Since the job completed, approximately a year ago, we have made many personnel changes including replacement of the designer, project manager, and plumber involved in this project. We have increased communication and quality control through new processes, software, and checkpoints to ensure when something goes wrong in a remodel project that it gets handled in a quick and efficient manner. Remodeling is tough and there are always bumps in the road but it’s the process and communication that separate the good companies from the bad. I can attest and assure you that there isn't anyone in the business that cares more and takes more pride in the work they leave behind and we sincerely apologize for failing this customer.

Service was excellent from the minute I requested a reservation, which it was able to do online and with only about 24 hr notice. Our flight from Chicago was an hour late, but Janelle was keeping track as best she could, the airlines was a little slow with updates. We were very pleased to see her waiting for us. Janelle was friendly, courteous, and a pleasure to work with.

Designer was great at listening to us. We were able to improve our space, yet kept the same footprint, flooring, and tub to save cost. She also helped us pick out granite from a scrap lot to save cost. We love the design flow, colors, and details. She helped us bring in more natural light, design cabinets that really fit our needs and incorporated our love on natural materials and colors. Roger, the site manager,-main carpenter, was wonderful. He was responsible, kind, clean and professional. Roger took a personal interest in making sure every detail was exactly as we wished. He updated me on a daily basis. I never had a mess at the end of the day. He insured all subcontractors were his level of professionalism as well; clean, quick, scheduled efficently, work done well. Roger even followed up on 3 months after the projects was done and made subcontractors calls immediately to fix problems. The subcontractors did wonderful work. Highlights: the tile work was beautifully laid out (even all grout lines matching in insets), the painters were clean, quick, friendly and flawless. There were delays that may have been avoidable by the designer: first it took 6 months to nail down the actual design and about 3 month later the project got started, there were also mismeasurements on the granite counter, and several things were ordered, (and reordering) wrong, but eventually made right. We would defiantly use them again and recommend them to our friends.

I liked their help with the decorating portion. I was not that pleased with the installation as they needed to take care of a few things such as a scratch in the granite countertops and issues with the painting where some spots had been missed. The counter tops needed to be replaced and the backsplash needed to have grouting redone. They did come back quickly. I needed to supervise them when they came back. When they came back they made everything good. Their prices were less expensive than other estimates we had received.

I started looking for kitchen remodelers in July, 2013. After meeting with a couple vendors, and getting quotes, I decided to go with The Affordable Companies. I had immediate rapport with sales rep, Carlie Crousore, and liked the design she came up with. They also offered the better price. While I wasn't moving any walls, I was replacing all the kitchen cabinets, flooring, countertop, sink, faucet and appliances. What I liked about working with them was that they could handle it all, except the appliances. Those I would have to purchase on my own. By the middle of September Carlie and I had chosen all the items and I got a scheduled installation date of early November. They started right on time on Nov. 4 and everything went very smoothly. My project manager, Del Flecker, kept me in the loop at all times about what was happening. I was very impressed with Dell and all the subcontractors who did the work. I felt very comfortable having them in my home. The only hitch was that the countertop was not installed when we thought it would be, but it only delayed the completion by a few days. The work was finished by the first part of December just in time for Christmas. And we came in under budget too. I was surprised at how smooth the whole process was and I'm just thrilled with the results. I've lived in my house for 10 years and hated the kitchen because everything in it was the original 1990's construction quality from the cheap oak cabinets to the ugly vinyl flooring. The appliances were also 20 years old, so I knew I would have to replace those shortly and I didn't want to put new appliances in an old kitchen. I've gotten wonderful comments from my family and friends and I'm so glad I went ahead and did it. Thanks to Carlie, Del and all the people at Afffordable.

After doing some research and using Angie's List I decided to entrust Olympia Stone (OS) with my guest vanity sink update. The builder vanity needed to go and Matt and his team measured, cut and installed the granite and were even able to build in the plumbing to the project to save me time looking for a plumber. The best part of the project was choosing the granite slab to be cut and watching as lasers were shot over the granite showing the exact cut of each piece and its final placement. The install crew arrived right on time, followed shortly afterwards as promised by the plumber. All elements of this project from my initial meeting with Maryellen, to the laser cutting with Bill and the attention to customer service detail of Matt was outstanding. I would not hesitate in recommending OS to anyone and look forward to using their service again in the future. Fantastic job OS , thank you so much. If you are looking for the highest quality, value and customer service excellence then your search has ended.

After meeting and interviewing various companies who perform remodeling projects I chose Dave Decker and his team at the Affordable Company (AF), because of the complete one stop service they provided, along with the Angie's list review rating. My wife and I particularly liked the fact AF provided a designer which other companies didn't, along with a project manager who would oversee the daily work being perform. The designer worked with us in choosing the tile, granite, glass finish and hardware to turn our idea into a working reality; which she did to a 5 star rating. The project manager, Ryan, oversaw all the AF team with a very keen eye to a high level of quality and detail in all aspects of the construction and final finish. What was really helpful to my wife and I was the project timetable AF provided so we knew what was happening when, and the expected finish date. Any changes which came along were communicated straight away by Ryan so we were continually updated on the projects timeline. The finished result is fantastic and a credit to Dave and his team who worked so hard and went above and beyond. I would certainly recommend AF to family and friends. What really hits this company "out of the ball park" compared to other companies in my experience, is their unequivocal willingness to stand behind the work they did; as well as answering any follow up questions about anything they did. This is a company who really want to create a long term partnership with their clients by providing outstanding work.

I called for an estimate and scheduled an appointment for 3p in afternoon. I work during the day so am not home. I drove home to meet the estimator and was no more than 3-5 min late arriving. The estimator left a business card on the front door. I called the number and left a message. She called back about 20 min later and stated she was too far away to return. She apparently rang the doorbell several times then left. She stated she did not have her appt book to re-schedule and would call the next day. I never heard back from anyone at the company at all and so soured by this, I am not calling back. Apparently the Affordable Companies do not want my business.

Unfortunately it appears we have a misunderstanding. The original appointment was scheduled on 8-7-13 at 4pm where we arrived on time to the jobsite and after ringing the doorbell several times and waiting until 4:15 decided to leave assuming we had been stood up. We received a call at approximately 4:30 where the member stated he was tied up at work and ran behind. The Salesperson was not able to return that momemnt as she was in route to another appointment. She requested the member get back to her with a couple other times that he was available as she would be happy to come back out. She never heard from the member again. Because the customer did not make it to the scheduled appointment nor call back we determined the member did not have interest in working with a professional company. We feel it unfair to receive a negative review when a member does not make it to the appointment.

Great company to work with! A+++ We had carpet installed in several rooms of our house, designed to match existing carpet installed a year earlier. When the installation took place, we realized that the carpet they put down did not match the carpet installed a year earlier. Shaw carpets had changed the carpet pattern, but not provided The Affordable Companies with updated samples. While no fault of their own, the people from The Affordable Companies went out of their way to work with the Shaw Carpets representative, who created a custom roll of matching carpet at no additional charge to us! You learn the most about people and companies when things don't go as planned. This is one of those cases. They were not in any way responsible for the problem we had, but they took ownership of the problem and got it solved. Thanks!
Description of Work: Carpet ordering and installation via the Costco flooring special order services.

I showed the man the area and asked if a repair to a tiled shower room could be done or what would he suggest. He admitted he was puzzled and not sure what needed or could be done. I asked him if he was a tiler and he said no. I asked if he had ever done tiling and he said no. He said he would take pictures and ask the tile workers what needed done. I said it is hard to tell from pictures. He took pictures with his phone. In my opinion that doesn't address all that is there or capture a true image. He called later that day and said that the tilers said a total do over would need to be done. I said we would need an estimate for that. I then commented that I didn't see him take a measurement. He then commented that I could measure and tell him! The room has unique designs, shapes and patterns. He needed to take this into consideration with correct measurements but instead he was just going to wing-it at my expense. We don't believe he would have given an accurate estimate. I took off work to get this estimate! It served no purpose for this man to show up. This was a complete waste of my time. It cost me money to take off work and not get an estimate. This was not professional in our opinion
Description of Work: A man came to give an estimate on a tiling job. He was carrying a bag. I asked what he had in his bag as he stepped in the door. He said pad of paper and tape measure.

We at The Affordable Companies value and pride ourselves in doing quality work. This member called us distressed that a contractor started her job but did not finish and it was in need of repair. During the initial call we stated we would need to remove the existing work and start fresh to guarantee our work. The member did not want to do this and requested we come out and look at the work anyway. Unfortunately we cannot accept the liability of others or warranty their work but we agreed to come take a look as we value all of our potential customers and Angie’s List members. We do not send our installers out to look at jobs but rather our design consultants which was also explained during the initial phone call. We arrived and found a faulty installation of existing product which was not well received by the member; we also provided her a second opinion from our tile installer by sharing pictures with him. We feel we went above and beyond on trying to help this member and feel that it is unfair to receive a poor review out of the members frustrations for her previous experience with her previous contractor.

They did a very good job and made sure to clean up before they left. They also did not call the job "done" until they know you are satisfied with.
Description of Work: We hired them for granite repair and also installed kitchen and bathroom faucets for us.

We are very happy with the work that was performed. Everything looks great. They helped us with the tile designs for the flooring, master batch including shower and tub surround and the kitchen backsplash.
Description of Work: They installed hardwood flooring, carpeting and tile throughout our new construction home including a finished basement. Tile work included 3 baths as well as backsplash in the kitchen.

From the beginning when designer, Carlie Crosure visited to discuss what I wanted to the very last step in the process, the experience was positive. Carlie listened carefully to what I wanted and designed a bathroom that is exactly as I envisioned. She was fun to work with, creative, and professional. Paul Hittle, project manager, kept everything on schedule and attended to every little detail. He responded to every question or concern with a smile and each time he came right over to check out my concern and answer my question. I am very impressed with Affordable. I think they are awesome.
Description of Work: All components of the master bath were removed and replaced -- shower, tub and enclosure and facing, flooring, toilet, cabinetry, sink, lighting, closet carpet, painting, etc. The bathroom footprint remained the same. Materials included ceramic subway tile, marble trim, marble countertops, and a honed marble floor.
