I found Todd Cartmel's The Painting Edge on Angie's List. I initially met with him a couple years ago for an exterior painting quote. While I did not choose his business at that time (scheduling conflict), his demeanor and overall presentation left a positive impression. I set a subsequent appointment at my sisters for a quote to paint her home's interior as a house warming present. Once again, his overall presentation was good, and once again there was a scheduling conflict (my sister wanted a quick turnaround, and we were just entering the holiday / busy season). During the premise visit for my sister, the discussion led to inquiries of changing stained cabinets to white. Todd explained the benefits of lacquer versus painting, and how he removes the doors and drawer fronts, takes them to his shop to sand, prime, then lacquer. The cabinet frames are addressed while still in place, and the area is sealed off with plastic during the process. The idea was inviting to me, so I called Todd to my home for an appraisal.I will admit I was hesitant even up to the start date. A computer generated image of before and after would have been advantageous. What my concept of some "grain" still being obvious, and Todd's, turned out to be different . I was hoping for more while I think the goal is for none (see pic for close up). That blooper I own since Todd lent me a sample door prior, for hands on awareness. Since I had contacted him in the warmer months, I had a couple months to consider. He suggested I wait till around October so the windows could be opened if the smell became overpowering. I did not find that to be the case, though it was noticeable. Also within that two month window, I employed a cabinetry maker (Madison County Cabinets ~ also on Angie's List) Todd had personally recommended, to build unfinished oak end caps for all my cabinet ends and the backside of my island. These were installed prior to lacquering, so as to be included. The unstained end caps are noticeable in the attached "before" picture. The whole project took about a week. We did have to remove all items from cabinets and drawers; when they took them off, they were all cataloged for replacement. Several nights we avoided cooking in the kitchen to keep from touching anything wet, or generating grease in the air. Todd shared that the lacquer needed about a month to "cure." We were having new flooring put in after the fact ( noticeable in the "after" pic), and he volunteered to come do any touch up should it be needed. The jury is still out as to whether I like my white cabinets, but Todd and his crew lived up to the positive vibe I got off each estimate visit.
Description of Work: Sanded, primed, then lacquered exterior of kitchen cabinets and island, changing them from stained oak to white. Also lacquered several pieces of shoe molding for where base cabinets meet flooring.

Todd was extremely helpful from the moment I contacted him to get an estimate. He showed up on time and treated my wife with respect while he inspected the area we needed to have reconstructed. When I contacted him to inform him that his estimate was higher than the insurance claim estimate, he offered to work with the insurance adjuster to bring his estimate and the claim estimate in line with one another. Once the insurance adjuster agreed that the claim estimate was too low, Todd promptly scheduled the work around our family's screwy schedule. Todd informed us exactly what his workers would be doing each day. His workers showed up on time and performed their work in an efficient manner. Each day the area where work was done was cleaned up. The work that we had done looks absolutely fantastic and I would not hesitate to hire him again. I am so happy that my wife and I chose Todd's firm to do the work on our home. I highly recommend this company to anyone who has drywall or painting service needs. Unbelievable professionalism. A total class act from start to finish.

Todd and his crew were a pleasure to work with. They arrived promptly each day over the five day job, worked diligently and cleaned up every day before they left. Their prep work took two days and our wall's joints and surfaces look better than when they were first completed. The painting was done carefully and professionally. They were especially careful to make sure they were doing exactly what we wanted. The crew was actually fun to be around. We would definitely use The Painting Edge again and recommend them to our friends.

Before hiring The Painting Edge, I obtained several estimates for the project and discussed with each company representative their specific approach - painting by hand vs spraying, paint used, number of layers etc. The estimate from The Painting Edge was closer to the higher end of the spectrum; however at the end, I chose them to do the job. Initially, it was not clear if the company would be able to do the project this year because they were already booked throughout October. Todd, the company owner, was very honest about it and recommended that I go with a different provider if the timing is critical for me. Since I had the flexibility to do the project next spring, I decided to hire them anyway because Todd impressed me with his integrity, attention to detail and professionalism. The project took about a week to complete and consisted of applying one layer of Duration paint by hand (siding only, excluding garage door and downspouts). Most of the work was performed while I was traveling, but I received regular progress reports via email. The project was finished upon my return and a thorough walk-through was performed by me and the project manager Chris. Everything looked neat and tidy, no drops of paint on any other surfaces, no damage to the plants close to the walls. Also, I have to mention that both Todd and Chris went out of their way to address any concerns that I had and went an extra mile when I needed some miscellaneous things to be taken care of. Overall, working with The Painting Edge was a very good experience and I highly recommend them to those who look for a company focused on quality and excellent customer service.

We are very pleased with the quality of the work performed. Todd, the owner worked with us to determine paints and the scope of the project. The quoted price was fair and justified by the quality of the work. The work was staged to accommodate our schedules. The two painters assigned to our project were very professional and skilled. They arrived on time and worked a long hard day; the project took 9 days per the estimate. The guys cleaned up every evening in a manner that provided us with as much livable space as possible. We highly recommend Todd's company and our painting crew.
Description of Work: We had multiple rooms on the first level of our home painted which included ceilings, walls, trim and wall preparation. It included an open area living room and kitchen, sun room, foyer, hall way stairway, office, full bath, guest bedroom and two built-in shelving units.

Todd immediately returned our phone call. His estimate was a little higher than we anticipated to pay, but after seeing the positive reviews on Angie's List, we decided to use his company. Chris led the group that did the job. They were at our house at 8:30am on the scheduled day and finished the job before the end of the day. They covered every single millimeter with paint, and not a speck of paint was on the plants or shrubs around the deck. They had to match the white color of the rail and pergola to the white trim of our house (which they did NOT paint). They did an absolutely perfect job of it! You can't tell that they were done by two different people. They even left the extra paint. I'm not a painter, but I could tell how everything was covered with a thick coat, no knots of wood were left uncovered, etc. The guys were polite and professional. They moved all the furniture and plants off the deck, and put everything back onto the deck before they left, in exactly the same way as we had it! They did not leave a single speck of paper, plastic, cigarette butt, or any trash whatsoever. We had a question about something the following day, and Chris came back to our house, on our schedule (his dinnertime, I'm sure), to personally answer our questions and explain what had been done. We have hired other painters for our deck and interior, and they have never stood behind their work. Todd and Chris do, and the work they do is definitely worth what you pay. I will never go for anyone else again.

Todd showed up on time to view the project. I had a competitive email quote within 24 hrs of his visit. The quote was broken out by room which gave me the option to commit to 100% of the project or less if I desired to "do some of it myself". I elected to have Todd do the entire project. The job was promptly scheduled. Todd returned the day before the job to discuss room preparation options. The painting crew arrived EARLY the next day. The professional care they took to protect floors, furniture, and stair rails significantly exceeded my "do it yourself" room prep procedures. They worked steadily (with normal breaks and lunch) to complete 80% of the work the first day. Prior to departing , all supplies were neatly consolidated out of our way. The next day, they finished up in the morning. They give me the left over paint (1.5 gallon). Todd and his crew are true professionals that I highly recommend.
Description of Work: Project involved painting of a 2 story entrance foyer ceiling and crown molding, 2nd floor bathroom and bedroom ceiling, and first floor LR/FR crown molding. Some sections of the crown molding had faded. Some sections of ceiling had minor water stains (attic snow). Crown molding was primed and painted. Ceiling water spots were primer/sealed rior to entire ceiling being painted.

Reasonable on additional services requested. Excellent workmanship. They are busy but worth the waiting for.

We had used The Painting Edge company 18 months ago to paint the interior of our home and really liked the job they did. We decided to have the exterior of our home painted and called for an estimate. Todd (the owner) looked at everything and emailed a detailed estimate. His estimate was a little higher than other estimates but much more detailed. Plus we had a previous positive experience with the company so we gave him the job. We were not disappointed. His crew, led by Chris, did an outstanding job. The weather was not very cooperatve but when it was dry they were on the job. They worked on the weekend as well just to stay ahead of the weather. They cleaned up every day and were very courteous. The entire crew worked very hard. I have already recommended them to my neighbors and would recommend them to anyone that wants a good, professional job.

Todd responded to my Angie's List purchase within 5 hours. He was at my house within 48 hours to provide an estimate. I purchased two painters for one day, and he said he would sand and paint pergola. The painters had the job complete just 24 hours after Todd visited our property! I was not expecting Todd to sand the pergola, yet he offered and I was very happy! The painters did a wonderful job with the sanding and painting. I would certainly use this service again in the future. We are extremely happy with the company and the experience.

From the moment I contacted Todd, to the final product, it was a joy to work with The Painting Edge. Todd was able to come out rather quickly to give me an estimate on a home I had just closed on. He recommended that I not have the halls/stairways painted until after I was fully moved in to ensure that we didn't have damage from the movers on freshly painted walls. (Something I didn't even think of.) He was able to work me in to his schedule to get most areas done before move in. And he was extremely flexible when I kept adding more areas to paint. (After I saw how great it looked, I couldn't resist adding more rooms.) Plus, he was able to patch the dings and scrapes in the drywall that the movers did end up causing. Not to mention a lot of drywall repair from the previous owner. The crew was extremely polite, professional and friendly. They cleaned up after each day and made sure I knew what the plans were for the following day and I never felt like they were intrusive. I would recommend The Painting Edge without hesitation for anyone looking for a beautiful finished product and positive experience.

Todd was punctual and professional and very helpful. Even though this job was not something he could do, I will put him on short list for future inside work.
Description of Work: Todd came to give a quote for exterior painting. However first he provided an assessment of my house for lead paint. Other contractors just said no when learning of the age of my home but Todd came and did a chemical test to determine if there was a problem. His company doesn't have the certification for working with lead based paint but offered to give me names of contractors who do. [Angie's List doesn't make it easy to discern who has this certification.]

We had a home warranty company fix a leak but afterwards they left a huge hole in our ceiling. We have spackled ceiling and they were not able to fix it. Todd's team helped and it looks brand new. The team was professional, cleaned up after themselves, and were on time. What else can you ask for? I found Todd because his team painted several of our rooms when we first moved in. Todd came over to discuss paint colors and start dates. Dropped off large painted boards so we could see large areas in different lighting, which was very helpful. When start day arrived Todd came over with the crew to introduce them and to do one more walk through of areas. I've painted (not good, I had more paint on me than the walls), we've had others paint and this, by far, was the best painters we've had. On time, very careful and respectful of our home. They were quick but didn't rush through the job. I asked if they could do an extra small area and they were very accommodating. We had surprise guests and we wanted to add that bathroom (Jack & Jill) and move it to the front of the line - done. They finished, cleaned up the drop cloths, paint cans and the endless blue tape. You only knew they had been there because the walls were beautifully painted. Todd told me to look over the areas for a couple of days to make sure I didn't see any problem areas - I looked hard and didn't find even a drip. If you are looking for a very professional painter worth every penny you spend, The Painting Edge and Todd Cartmel is the ans.

I highly recommend The Painting Edge. We will be using them again for all future painting jobs! We have been burned in the past by using a "professional" painting company and were hesitant to hire again. However, The Painting Edge not only met our high expectations, but exceeded them! Todd was professional and prompt with assessing our job and giving us the estimate. He was honest and upfront about the price and scope of the work. Shane and Mike were our painters and I can not say enough positive things about them. They were incredibly kind and respectful while in our home. I am a stay at home mom to 3 small children, and I felt completely comfortable with them in my home and will request them specifically on all future jobs. In addition to their demeanor, they did amazing work! They painted both our basement and laundry room, but our basement, especially, had significant dry wall damage and lots of molding which was nearly falling off and had large gaps and knicks. Now our basement looks stellar. All of the molding has been reattached and the gaps filled in, the drywall looks like new, and the paint edges are crisp and straight. I have zero complaints about the work that was done. Hire them.
