I requested service through Angie's List. Terrible response by both Angie's List and Rickel Electric. I know this will not make the public since it will be reviewed prior to posting. However, I won't be using Angie's List request services product anymore. As far as Rickel Electric: Since they responded a month later it is better than Angie's List but still a complete failure!

Work done at an investment property. Overall, it was a good experience. Jason had one of his employees come out to do the job. They were in close contact, and the employee was very skilled, professional, and amiable. Completely online experience as far as a paperless transaction, from initial contact through invoicing and payment. I knew the technician to be competent by observation, as I am a contractor and engineer. The only minor complaint I have is the price seemed just a little bit too high. However, I'm sure I got a fair deal. The convenience and professionalism on their part is there, and the electric company and inspectors approved.

They were great. We figured out we had a faulty (broken) GFI in our kitchen. You don't realize how often you use the garbage disposal until you can't! We called first thing in the morning and they were able to get us in that day. The service man was nice friendly and speedy. We would not hesitate to use them again.

The worker showed up in the promised timeframe and worked very hard to fix our electrical issues. We had a few surprise come up when the fixture covers came off which required a few trips to the supply house. In the end they got the job done and made everything right. I will make sure to use Rickel for any electrical issue/project in the future! They were great! ***Update 06/18/2015*** A day after the work was complete, I went into the adjacent room of where the work was done and found that the outlet closest to the ones repaired had been completely taken apart and never put back together. This included the plate and actual plug/wires exposed and just dangling out of the wall. I feel like this was is huge safety hazard as one of our animals or child could of gone into the room and been shocked if they were to play around with them.

Response from Rickel Electric, LLC
We are really sorry for missing the last box. I wish the customer would have called us immediately to make it right. We did not hear anything from the customer until reading this review. We would have came out immediately to fix it for free. We are trying to train the newer guys to be more thorough. sorry

Our front yard lamp had not worked for years and we went the handyman route to get it lighted again. But that didn't work for long. Rickel came out -- SnapFix project -- and found that the line used by the handyman was for indoor electrical work. He had to rent a machine to find the line, then replace it, including going under our new concrete sidewalk. That added a lot to the cost, but made sense to do it. He spent hours there, dug up along the drive to make it easier to get to the line should anything else go wrong. He also installed a new outlet on the side of my brick house ( his suggestion to my husband, who'd asked for it on the front of the windowbox) Looks great and isn't a negative curb effect. Light works great. Super happy.

We had an issue with the light not working in the master bath. I swapped out the switch myself and it still didn't work. I checked and everything else on the same circuit was out as well. The breaker was OK so I called our regular handy-man. He couldn't fix it and said, "You need to call an electrician." I called and Rickel Electric was prompt; they offered to come the next day and that didn't work for my schedule so they came the following day. The technician who came was extremely kind and very professional. I have no complaints with the service provided. We did have one issue, though. I originally told them that I needed a switch fixed and that I had ten (10) other switches to be replaced. After having talked with them, I found some others that I wanted to replace so, ultimately, I needed thirteen (13) replaced. The technician fixed the problem in the master bath and swapped out the switches. I was at work and my wife called. She said the tech. told her that he needed payment at the time of completion. I was not told this originally over the phone when I made arrangements. This wasn't a problem though...I didn't/don't mind paying immediately so I went home and gave the technician a check. When I came home at the end of the day, my wife told me that the technician forgot to replace two of the switches. I thought, "No big deal..." and I swapped them out myself as I had purchased all of the switches myself and had them on-hand for the technician. The next morning, my wife went into the front bathroom and found two more switches that the technician forgot. So, out of a total of thirteen (13) switches, he forgot to swap four (4). I took care of two of them but at this point, I decided two contact Rickel. I sent an email explaining what happened and this was just before Memorial Day weekend. The following Tuesday came and went and I didn't get a reply...so I called. I was told that the cost of the job was based on the labor of fixing the switch and my original request for replacing ten (10) switches. I understood/understand this...and I had thirteen (13) thirteen switches. So, as was pointed out to me, I was charged for the replacement of ten (10) so there was a real discrepancy of one (1) switch. This is true. However, I was told that normally, the way they bill is a flat fee per service call ($90, I think) and then the labor cost. Then, I was told that, if I wanted to have a technician come and install the remaining two switches, they would waive the standard fee for the service call but that they would charge me labor ($65/hour). I told them that I understood their reasoning ("understood"...not that I agreed) and told them I would install the switches myself. My problem is, even though I was given a price for a repair and the replacement of ten (10) switches, regardless of the fact that I actually had thirteen (13) switches, the job was incomplete because the technician only did nine (9). So, to me, even if he came to install ONE switch, THAT should be free of charge (i.e., no service fee and no labor) because THAT was the original agreed-upon scope of work. Not 13 and not 9...10. I paid for ten (10) and I only had nine (9) replaced...so I shouldn't be charged anything more to complete the job because the original job was never fully completed. I understand that we're talking about one light switch but to me, it is the principle. If an agreement is made, you hold up your end of the agreement. I told Rickel in my original email (to which they didn't reply) that I understood mistakes are made and that I was still very happy with the technician and the service they provided...I just wanted to rectify the issue with the two remaining switches and said that they could come replace the two remaining switches or give me a credit for the percentage that remained incomplete. This was when, over the phone, I was told that it was really only a matter of one switch because the original scope only included ten...to which I agreed...but still, that leaves the job as incomplete in my book and I shouldn't be asked to pay anything extra to complete that job. I do my own business and were I in this position as an owner/operator, I would have completed the one switch at no cost to the customer because that, I believe, is my professional OBLIGATION based on the original agreement. Then, out of courtesy and good business-practice, I would replace the second switch (one above and beyond the original agreement) because it happened to be in the same box and it demonstrates excellent customer service. I did not EXPECT Rickel to do the eleventh switch for free...but I DID expect that they would complete the original job with switch number ten and not tell me that I would be charged labor cost (and imply that they were doing me a kindness by not charging me the standard $90 fee for a service call). In a nutshell, all other details aside, it boils down to this: I was told that the agreed-upon price was based on the labor of the one repair and the replacement of ten switches. I agreed and paid for that. What I received was the repair and the replacement of nine switches. It's that simple. Is it a small thing? Yes. Am I being anal? Maybe. However, if I agree upon something I hold up my end and I expect the same in return. Overall, the technician was great...he fixed the problem in the master bath and I don't care that he made a mistake in forgetting any number of switches. I'm reasonable. As I said, I know that mistakes are made. I DO think that management should have resolved the issue in a different manner so as to complete the original job. But...oh well Prior to calling Rickel I called two other electricians and they didn't even return my call...so, given the utter lack of professionalism and customer service out there, I will call Rickel again if I need an electrician but I will be very clear about the terms up front and I will double-check everything upon completion.

My GFI outside powering my fountain failed. I decided to try the new "SnapFix" and Proect" on the Angie's List app. Within a day I had a response and after checking the Angie List rating on Rickel Electric scheduled the appointment. I was given a 4 hour window and Jason text me as he was heading my way. He arrived, took a look at both issues and promply got to work. He replaced the light switch and then replaced the GFI outisde. He also, tightened the fixture to the post and secured the cover to prevent water from seeping in. He was very courteous and professional. Overall, he was finished in less than one hour. I will call him again.

Terrific company. We have used these folks in the past and always meant to review but after another great experience today, finally made time to complete the review. The electrician responds quickly to messages to schedule, has always arrived within the agreed time period. The work is performed professionally, quickly and always under what we would have expected to pay. An example: today, in an hour - and for half of what I would have paid, the electrician installed four fixtures, replaced 20 (no kidding) bulbs inside and out (most required removal of screws, etc., some of which were rusted), repaired sensors on 5 light posts, solved another outside lighting issue I have had on the list, and I am probably leaving out a few things. Couldn't be happier, would recommend them to anyone - they are the only ones we contact when we have an electrical job.

I had some difficulty scheduling. We went back and forth over email and had tentatively settled on a date. That one fell through, partly my fault for not following up. I ended up scheduling them a couple months later when my parents were visiting, so they were the ones that actually interacted with the service provider while I was at work. From what I hear, the inspection was thorough. It took several weeks and a follow up call to get the report, which was in the form of a punch list estimate for repairing issues. I would have liked a little more explanation. In the end, I had a different electrician give me a second opinion and they recommended I not do the majority of the work recommended.

The previous night I experienced lights throughout the house flickering. As I inspected the breaker box I could hear a sizzling sound that stopped when I turned off the breaker that the lights where on. I suspected the breaker was bad but was having a difficult time finding where to find a replacement. I called Rickel's at 7:30 am and explained the situation. The receptionist called back within 20 minutes and said that Jason could be at my location within an hour. Jason texted me while in route and asked what type of breaker that I needed to make sure that he had it available which he did. Breaker was replaced within 5 minutes. He answered my questions regarding the load and we did some testing and said that he would provide me a quote to split the service. Job completed and piece of mind that I am back in service.

Rickel didn't charge me a big upcharge for the parts, he just charged me for his time which is about $125 for the 1st hour. I had three outlets that had gone bad on me and I was concerned I needed a new box. He assured me that I had a good box for my needs (Mister Qwik and others have tried to sell me a new box). This company is not looking to get rich off its customers which is what I'm looking for with Angie's List. Reputable, fair service providers. I have a new electrical service provider now :)

Zach and Jason did an awesome job in the installation. They were prompt, courteous, professional and great to work with. They carefully cleaned up the area after they were finished and were very fast in the installation of four recessed lighting. The only problem I had was in scheduling the actual installation. I had not heard from them until 1/16 after I had purchased my coupon on 1/5. That was okay though because I was not in a hurry to get this done and I figured they were pretty busy with previously scheduled installations. Overall, I would highly recommend this company again for your lighting and electrical needs. Thank you.

I had noticed that my garage lights were on almost all of the time. The only time they would go off was when the sun was shining brightly. So I called Rickel Electric to schedule someone to come look at them. They were able to schedule someone quickly. They called when they were on their way. Of course, today the sun is shining brightly, so my lamps were not on. He cleaned the sensor and then covered it up with tape to see if the lights would turn on, which they did. When he uncovered the sensor, the lights eventually went out. He said they could replace the sensor, but we might not have any more problem with it since he had cleaned it. (So it made me feel like he wasn't just trying to pressure me to buy something that wasn't necessary.) I asked what it would cost and I felt it was worth just replacing while they were here since my house is 20 years old. (It was just an additional $24.50 to replace the sensor.) He had the job done in probably 5 minutes. Both workers were extremely professional and nice.

Jeremy and his apprentice Justin did an excellent job of installing a wall mounted charging cable for our new 2015 Chevrolet Volt (also known as Electric Vehicle Service Equipment or EVSE). We purchased the car at the beginning of December, and they managed to fit us into the schedule before the new year. We purchased the charging equipment directly from GM, and chose Rickel Electric to install it. Jeremy and Justin installed a new circuit breaker and a new meter base. Next they ran a line from the circuit breaker through the new meter base to the charging station, then mounted the charging station to the wall. The cabling was tidy, and they cleaned up the work area when they were done. They were professional and quick, and the price was exactly what I expected.

Jason arrived during the quoted time and tested and updated 5 receptacles and fixed wiring damaged by a the heavy load of a space heater I had plugged in to an outlet that was very old. He also roughed in and added more receptacles in my office -- retrieving additional materials to complete the job. He was quick, thorough and explained the issues to be very well. He even took the initiative to install an outlet in the ceiling joists above my LCD TV to eliminate the wiring... I was surprised at the low cost for all of the work he did for me--and appreciated his review of my space heater's amperage to provide the best solution--and the advise on where/how to prepare my home for the arrival of a new infrared sauna with special power requirements. :)
