Description of Work: we were advised that we should get a attic fan. we shopped around and came to Rickel Electric. I saw their rating on Angie's list so that sealed the deal and we hired them. They did an excellent job on time and for the amount quoted. Their employee was polite and very professional. I am on Angie's list now to get their phone number to hire them for more electrical work as well as other work. Very pleased with this company!

+ -1 moreOriginally, Jason (the owner) came out for a written estimate of several projects that I wanted completed. He was able to give estimate and completed the work before another electrician was even able to schedule an estimate. I wanted Jason to add another outlet in the garage and wire 3 rooms for ceiling fans.(home was not pre-wired so he had to enter the attic to run wiring through the ceiling) He had all rooms wired and hung the fans that I had purchased that same morning. All of this was done in no more than 5 hours.
Description of Work: Electrician added a new electrical outlet in garage, wired 3 rooms for ceiling fans(existing home was not pre-wired), and installed fans that I had purchased on my own.

+ -1 moreArrived on time, I was the one running late trying to get home from work, he waited, and had proceeded to check what I had thought was the problem. He will be sending a quote for the entire rewiring (underground) with new light post, photo sensor, etc. But at the moment the circuit is again usable and other lights and outlets are now working properly. Polite and professional company.
Description of Work: Had a circuit breaker that kept tripping, called in the morning, had an appt that afternoon. They checked all outlets on circuit, and as thought the 28 yr old yard light was the issue. Now is disconnected so that the circuit can be used.

+ -1 moreThe entire operation went very well. Both Mr. Rickel and his technicians were punctual, polite and responsive. I would certainly use them again should the occasion arrive.
Description of Work: My roof exhaust fan ceased operating as did my backup refrigerator. I was unaware the two were on the same circuit. Obviously there was a sense of urgency to get it the refrigerator back on line. I checked Angies List for electrician recommendations and chose Rickel Home Improvement. The owner, Jason Rickel, came to the house that afternoon to assess the situation and to get power back to the refrigerator. The next day his repairman arrived and replaced the fan.

+ -1 moreI called on 7/23/12 and Jason was able to come out that afternoon.He determined that the wiring was good ,but the fixture should be replaced due to melting damage to the plastic parts.He treated this visit as an estimate and agreed to obtain a better designed fixture and return on 7/24 /12 to install it.He arrived as promised and installed the new fixture the next morning.The fixture is all metal and designed to better disburse the heat.The fixture also provides better lighting.We are very pleased with the work performed .
Description of Work: Checked the wiring and replaced a light fixture over a tub and shower in a 2nd floor bathroom.This fixture had overheated causing plastic components to melt and the light bulb to burn out.

He was punctual, completed the job in a timely fashion, cleaned up after the installation and gave us a few pointers on the placement of the lighting to maximize the potential of our purchase. Jason (the owner) even stopped by to ensure that the Rickel employee working on our home had all of the tools/products needed to complete the job that same day after doubling our order while the employee was working on the home. It was obvious that Rickel Electric was very customer focused during the time of service and the initial request for service. Great job-we couldn't be happier!
Description of Work: 8 recessed lights installed (4 in our kitchen and 4 in our living room). We bought a coupon off of Angie's List for 4 recessed lights and a dimmer switch for $399.00 and were so pleased with the work we chose to add 4 additional recessed lights in another room that same day.

+ -1 moreI called on Monday to have someone come out on Friday to add electrical to our kitchen so we could install a range hood and a dishwasher, and to see if we could split the switch in the upstairs bathroom. They arrived on time, surveyed the area very well, and got to work. The electrician had a few options on how to put things together, and advised me how to make sure the microwave hood goes in properly when the installers come out. He did research on the spot to make sure that the new plugs wouldn't interfere with a bathroom that we plan to add, but haven't yet. Then he split the switch upstairs. He was thorough, very kind, polite and professional. He cleaned up very well when we left. It was a pleasure to do business with Rickel Electric, and I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Wire the kitchen for a hood microwave and dishwasher installation, rewire the bathroom to separate the light switch from the vent switch.

+ -1 moreThey commented that they probably should have replaced the entire box the first visit, but thought that they had the problem fixed for less than the cost of replacing the entire box. When it appeared that the full box had to be replaced, they did so promptly and successfully.
Description of Work: Replaced rusted breakers in main power box. This was thought to fix the problem, but it did not. They returned to replace the entire breaker box, and gave us credit for work already performed.

+ -1 moreIt went great. I called to get an estimate. Several other contractors refused to give an over the phone estimate. Rickel did, based on my description which proved to be not quite accurate as far as the ease and simplicity of the job. His estimate was far lower than any others I got. Installer came out on time. Was helpful and responsive to doing the job as I requested even though that presented a difficulty due to unanticipated obstruction. He suggested using a conduit on the interior wall vs. putting it inside the wall. I nixed that. So he went ahead and found away to put it in the wall. He finished the job in two hours. When I contacted Rickel afterward to apologize for it being more complicated than I thought, he said no problem that he had anticipated 1-2 hours in the estimate.

Provided detailed quote and was able to schedule work in a reasonable amount of time after first inspection. Work crew did a terrific job of finding a way to get concealed wires in our basement, which has a few structural impediments. I think job ended up taking more time and effort than originally expected, but crew performed it cheerfully and thoroughly. They cleaned up after job was complete, so other than additional hardware we needed to install, there was no sign they had been in the house. Very satisfied with finished product. Will definitely call them the next time we have an electrical project.
Description of Work: Wired and installed speaker system for new home entertainment system. Also ran ethernet cable from one location to another in house.

+ -1 moreEverything was done in a timely manner. Jason came and looked over what I needed done. He gave me an estimate via email. I ordered pendant lights and when they came in he came out next week and installed. Couldn't ask for anything else.
Description of Work: I had can lights and pendant adjustable lights put in my kitchen and removed old lights. I also had can lights put into a rental home in the kitchen. When I called for an estimate Jason came and I explained what I needed installed and removed. He sent me an estimate via email and we discussed a date that he could come back out and install. He called and verified time and came out did the work in a timely manner and the lights look great. I'll use his company again in the future.

+ -1 moreAlthough I thought the price was a tad high for replacing a light switch and the amount of time he was there, Jason did a great job. I can see why so many people have rated him highly and why he's a multiple year Super Service Award winner. For any other electrical work I will be calling Jason beacause you can see by the way he runs his business, the customer is #1.
Description of Work: After meticulously reading reviews for multiple electricians on Angie's List, I emailed Jason on a Tuesday about a problem we were having with our ceiling kitchen light. He was quick to respond in less than 2 hours, we scheduled a time for him to come out and take a look the following Saturday. He was able to get to the house earlier than that, but our schedule didn't permit it. He called the day of the appointment to confirm if the time still worked, and he arrived on time. He quickly diagnosed the issue - the light switch needed replaced. We also had him look at a few outlets to have them converted from two prong to three prong, but after he looked at them he said it really wouldn't matter because they wouldn't have been truly grounded. (Also gave estimates on what it would cost to ground them - we have not scheduled this work yet). He was there 25-30 minutes total, explained to us in a professional manner what the problem was, and gave us his card. Before leaving, he thanked us for the business.

They arrived on time, did a quick troubleshoot to discover the problem, then fixed it all for the cost of a normal service call. Their fee was more than 25% less than another company I had called for an estimate. They were professional, friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. They are now my #1 go-to company for any future issues we'll face as homeowners!
Description of Work: We lost power in all electrical outlets in our 3-car garage, outside patios, and a few other places. All we knew to do was to try resetting the breakers and look for any tripped GFI switches and when none of that worked, we contacted 4 companies for estimates and projected times of service. One company didn't return my call at all; one returned my call several hours later (after Rickel had already fixed the problem); one was quick to return my call but would charge $125 to come to the house then require an hourly repair fee; Rickel found a way to come to the house within a few hours. The technician listened carefully to the problem and what we had already tried, then used his knowledge of circuitry routing to locate the most probable source of the problem. It was right where he thought it would be. He fixed it quickly and only charged us the service call of $90, nothing additional. Throughout the service call the electrician was courteous, listened carefully to what we told him, asked a few relevant questions, then went immediately to the source of the problem. After we had spent over two weeks trying to figure it out on our own, Rickel Electric fixed the problem completely in less than 30 minutes.
