Setting up the appointment was a pleasure. Rickel Electric responded quickly to the message I sent via Angie's List (on a Saturday no less), and they sent a technician the next business day. The light fixtures are up, and there do not appear to be any problems.

Asked to include installing three dimmers in other rooms as well as the install of the cans. Very friendly and knowledgeable technician. Explained everything and answered many questions from my wife about placement of the lights in the ceiling (relative to the ceiling fixture from which the wires were drawn. Took about 4 hours. Cleaned up. All done and very pleased with the service and product.

One complete circuit servicing my family room & kitchen blinked and then went out on a Sunday evening. This was a non-emergency situation so I called several places to get on their lists for Monday. Jason Rickle called back shortly thereafter and left a message that he could get to me Monday by midday. He came out at 10:45am, we traced down the problem systematically and he found a loose wire in a receptacle that I didn't even think was part of that circuit. This fixed the problem. He tightened a lot of contacts and pigtailed the offending receptacle to prevent the problem from happening again.

We had purchased a big deal for the service. I didn't really like the guys that came out that much. I paid extra for the work that I had them do. They looked around, and didn't seem to have anything in mind to do. I had certain things in mind to be done, and I wanted the whole house to be inspected. He looked at the things that I wanted to have done, and said that they would come back and do them, but in terms of the inspection, they just looked around and didn't do much of anything. Unless there was something that I pointed out. They didn't really do much and I would not use their service again. They were supposed to repair some outside landscaping lights, that they said they would have to get parts to fix those lights, and that was a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything again from them. This was the first and last time for me to use them. The guy came, and for some reason, he thought that he was inspecting the house, prior to us selling the house, which was not the case. He thought that he was coming to put a rubber stamp on things, that it was okay to sell, he wasn't planning on looking at anything.
Description of Work: We used Rickel Electric, LLC. I had a few electrical things that I wanted to have done, small things like an outlet being fixed outside, and a couple of minor things. They did most of them when they came back out.

Service was outstanding and all work was of the highest quality. Jason noticed that some of the light bulbs used in existing can lights did not match with the new light bulbs. He then shifted over some of the can lights to different rooms so everything matched up perfectly. Jason is by far the best electrician we have ever had.

We got 3 quotes from 3 different companies. Rickel's quote was the last to come in--but it was I am sure within a week of when I requested it so it wasn't bad. The other two companies got back with me much quicker on their quote. The only problem with the other quotes is that they were much higher. We had already submitted one of the other companies' names for our FHA loan to cover the cost. But the work with Rickel was so significantly less that it was worth redoing the FHA loan to replace the more expensive guy with Rickel. We were satisfied with the job. The electrician worked hard and asked for a broom to clean up his wire clippings before left. I told him not to bother. I was happy with the price and the work, it's the least I could do. I had a couple other questions about "problems" I had on a couple light banks. He looked at them and spent less than a minute on each showing me (in a resthat what I thought was a problem was just a dimmer switch that was not totally "on". Rickel's uses unionized technicians. The technician that installed our panels seemed like a person that was trying to help his employer out by doing excellent work. I did not sense any animosity whatsoever that I have seen firsthand with unions in huge corporations. In fact I could sense that the electrician respected the owner, Jason. I have seen a couple bad reviews and I understand how they can happen in a growing company. Maybe somebody you just hire is not (yet?) up to the standards of your company. I own a computer store, and I know how that an employee can do something out of character or beneath the standards of a company. But my sense is that the owner, Jason, will make things right if his company has not completed a safe and complete job. The most important ingredient to having a fair and honest company is to have a fair and honest owner. And as of November, 2013, I believe this is how Rickel Electric is being run. I will do future work for them as well as recommend them to my best friends.
Description of Work: Rickel Electric replaced two side by side service boxes, one was 100 amps and the other was 200 amps. They did not need to replace the feed wires coming in. The 200 amp box was almost empty. (It had very few circuit breakers.)

I called Rickel Electric on 4 November (I have used them in the past for much bigger jobs - about $2,500 worth of work altogether), and Jason came out first thing the next morning. He quickly diagnosed our problem, fixed it, and only charged for a service call. He likely saved me death by electrocution or me burning down the house. I will continue to use Rickel for all of my electrical needs, or at least until they give me a reason to change my mind.

A new employee was sent to our house who has been working for them for 3 weeks due to a schedule change on their end. Employee had very little idea of why he was at our house. He kept stating that he was new and didn't know. We had some ideas of what we wanted done and walked through the entire house and told him what we were looking for (exhaust in bathroom, canned lights in family room, 220 for hot tub, and outside perimeter lights, and outlets grounded). He never looked at our electric panel. He said he wasn't able to give us a price on anything, he was new. He would give our information to someone else who would call us back. We have never heard back from them. `in my opinion our money was wasted.. IF this company cares and contacts us, we will write them a different review.

Electrician came to house for 30 to 40 minutes, examined electrical panel, and a few outlets around the house. He verbally reported no major problems, no aluminum wires, seen. No written record of the inspection or service was provided. When the electrician arrived, I explained that I was especially interested in wiring quality (fraying, etc.) and junction boxes in the attic/insulation space since the house was built several decades ago. I tried to verify that the "Whole house electrical inspection" included going up in attic. He replied "we can if you want us to." I replied "that would be great" and showed him two separate entrances to the attic space, one for the NS lying roof and the other for the intersecting EW lying roof. The electrician peered into one of the two attic spaces but did not enter the attic and look around. The other attic space was ignored. Other than knowing that my electrical panel looked good (which I already knew), I have no more confidence in the safety of my electrical wiring than before Rickel Electric, LLC came. If the service had been of the quality I expected, I would forego explaining that service scheduling also was very poor. I believe Rickel Electric tried to call me soon after receiving notice of my Angie's List purchase but I missed the call. So, I looked them up on the internet and tried to return the call. Their call service was unbelievably rude. I explained that I missed the scheduling call and would like to speak with a scheduler -- the call service operator refused to put me through or give me a direct number "because this was Angie's List problem and you need to call them." When I tried to clarify, the operator actually argued with me and said snide things in an attempt to intimidate me. Despite this situation, I provided a C grade for Professionalism because Stacey at Rickel was very kind when Angie's List asked her to call me. The Price would have been great and graded higher if service quality had been good.

I had called to have an in ground wire to the lamp post corrected when we severed the line with an edger. They came and spliced the wires as requested. I also requested a quote/replacement of our transformer box for landscaping lights. The gentleman wrote the model number of the box and shortly after sent us a quote. I had agreed to the quoted amount and they came by couple weeks after to replace the box. On their second visit, I had asked them look at the spliced wire from their first visit, as it was shorting out and leaving our garage without power. The gentleman (different guy) looked into it and explained that the neutral wire was never connected and that he corrected the problem. He then began replacing the transformer box. It was apparent to me that the box they bought did not match what we currently had, but they assured us that it was an equivalent model. After several hours of rewiring - there were wires left that were not hooked up to the box because the new box did not support some of the features of our old box. I was told a new box would have to be ordered for the exact same model. The price was much higher, but I had agreed to pay for the differences in price since I had already paid for the first box. After a few days, I had to make a third call to have them look at the spliced wires as it was still shorting out, especially after a rain. I was told it would be a while since they were busy and would have to look at their schedule to see when a serviceman would be available. I agreed I'd wait... but I decided to look at the wiring myself since I grew tired of opening the garage doors manually. Since the spliced wires were for in ground wiring, I had removed the plastic wire connectors and replaced them with waterproof wire connectors. This seemed to have resolved the issue and haven't had a problem since then. After about 4 weeks, I had contacted them requesting an update on the transformer box. They said it was in back order and should be arriving soon. Once the box finally arrived - they came by and replaced the transformer box and mad sure all wires were working and active. |This is the first time I had used Rickel electric and first time as an Angie's member. I had chosen Rickel because of their 'A' rating and many nominations for awards. Though the servicemen were courteous and apologetic - I didn't think it should have taken me to resolve the spliced wiring issue so I'm giving them an average grade for workmanship.

They came out almost two weeks later after I purchased the "Big Deal" and the service went pretty well. I like everything about him. He was very prompt in responding and we communicated through e-mails and messages. The only issue is that when they came out to do the work, the guy that came out to do the work was having a really bad day. So, he was really frustrated and he did 80% of the work and then left but the owner was pretty good. He came back after a week and finish the work.

A month earlier we had various services performed by Jason at Rickel. These included installation of 3 electrical outlets, installation of 2 ceiling fans and installation of a ceiling light box on a separate switch. The issue we have is for a follow up call made by one of their technicians to determine why there was no power to the switch on the ceiling light box. We had not used the switch since installation as I did not have a light fixture at the time. Once I purchased the light fixture, I installed it, without turning on the switch. Once installed, we did not have any power to the switch/light. Their technician determined, with my help, that there was a GFI receptical that had tripped and was causing the problem. Much to my surprise, we were billed $125 for their time. If I felt that I had done something to trip the circuit, I would happily pay this invoice and understand the cost of the trip, but there was nothing that I had done to trip the circuit. In the original installation, Jason had trouble getting power to the box/switch, but finally said he had that fixed. Since the GFI has been reset, the light in the dimmer switch, indicating power, has been constantly on, whether or not the light is on. That power indicator light was never on prior to service call. In my mind, the GFI was tripped during installation, not after, and we didn't know it until we installed the light fixture. Over many years, I have installed many lights and done many routine electrical tasks as I have a college degree in this area of technology. Receiving a bill for this service because of my faulty installation is just not true. No one from Rickel inspected my light fixture installation, so how would they know?? Errors happen. Blame without inspection or proof is wrong. I did pay the bill, but will not use their services again.

The guys were pleasant, worked hard, and endured some difficult situation in two different attics. They were very honest and probably saved us a lot of money by recommending that some fixtures be replaced.
Description of Work: The guys did a great job of moving a chandelier on an 18 ft ceiling, wiring and mounting a wall Flat Screen, rewiring three outlets in the master bedroom, repairing a light fixture, taking apart another fixture with a broken pendant and telling us to replace it rather than have them redo it, fixing another circuit.

I would most definitely use Rickel Electric again. Once contacted they quickly provided me an estimate and when I agreed they were very prompt in installing the electric line and my electric vehicle (EV) charger. Everything works and there were no additional charges.

I've used Jason Rickel before. I needed can lights installed in out Dining Room. I provided lighting fixtures and wire, so the price was really just for labor. There were some issues with where I originally wanted the lights installed, due to joists or ductwork in the way. The electrician offered a different arrangement for the lighting, and things work out fine.
