+ -1 moreJohn was most prompt in returning my call and very courteous in arranging the service call. He called again to reconfirm the time, and he arrived on time. He was polite, helpful, and went above and beyond what I asked. He noticed that the latch on my dryer was broken and asked if I wanted him to fix it. He was especially helpful in discussing new appliances and his experiences with certain brands. He was willing to discuss numerous specifics with me, and he never appeared to be in a hurry or impatient with my ''naive'' questions about my appliances and his assessment of them.
Description of Work: Checked malfunctioning Whirlpool washing machine. Discovered tub rusted in half and agitator ''shot.'' Told me cost of repairs, and we discussed feasibility of repair versus replacement. Also had him check out dishwasher leak while in the home. Motor was leaking, and again we discussed cost of repair versus cost of new dishwasher.

+ -1 moreHe told me what I was doing wrong. He was right about the problem. The hot water heater hadn't been turned up high enough. He told me to reduce the amount of soap and increase the heat. I haven't had a problem since.
Description of Work: I had a problem with my dishwasher. Someone else came out to try to repair it and it didn't solve the problem. I had John come out.

+ -1 moreI have no way to judge the competency of this repairman, but his complacency about my belongings was amazing. For the most part, he appeared to be indifferent about the water all over the floor or the damage it might cause the items on the floor. He eventually asked if I wanted him to empty the machine of water. I said "Not if you're going to charge me for your time, but you can dip some out while I call my husband to make sure he agrees with the decision not to fix it." I wrote the check soon thereafter and he left. At that point, I noticed that he had not dipped any water from the machine, the machine and hoses were still connected, the panels were leaning against my cabinets and the screws were on the countertops. And there was still a lot of water and soppy towels on my floor.
Description of Work: I called Mathew Appliance Repair on May 9 to repair a washing machine half full of clothes and water, & the repairman came out on May 10th. He spent about 15 minutes in my laundry/sewing room when he called me into the room to explain the difficulty. The room had a large amount of water all over the floor. This is a room full of built in cabinetry, with bolts of ultrasuede, boxes of fabric, and serger and sewing machine electric controls on the floor. As I quickly threw down towels and moved all the above from harm's way before the water approached along with the saturated boxes, he explained that the machine had at least one problem which would cost $250.00 to repair and most likely a second problem which would push it to well over $300. He asked if I wanted him to repair it. We agreed not repair it. However, he left this room in a true mess. The machine & hoses were left connected, the panels were leaning against my cabinets, screws on the counter and water on the floor.

+ -1 moreI called during my lunch hour and arranged for John to stop by later that afternoon. Same day service is great. He fixed the problem quickly and offered to fix our Ice Maker as well. Other estimates for fixing the Ice Maker alone were upward of $150. We were very pleased.
Description of Work: Our Refrigerator/Freezer wasn't cooling. I believe the problem was with the defrosting mechanism. John also fixed our Ice Maker.

He was available before we were. He was very patient in working around our unique scheduling needs. John was very prompt, courteous, and professional. Would recommend and use him again.
Description of Work: Had John come and check a squeaky stackable washer & dryer. John came and checked and suggested we not do any repairs. While annoying, the problem would cost more to fix than the cost of a new stackable washer & dryer. We were charged the cost of the service call.

+ -1 moreJob 1: I called Mr. Mathew at 8:45 am and by 9:45 my repair had been done and the work was perfect! Mr. Mathew was professional, extremely pleasant, and very helpful. He tole me on the phone where to find the range model. He hat that baking element on his truck. He said he could be at my residence in 30 minutes and he was. I highly recommend him! How does Angie's List get such wonderful people? I have not had one negative experience with people on Angie's List! They have all been great! Job 2: This was my second experience with Mr. Mathew, my second pleasant experience I should add. He is simply super! I called him early in the morning, and he promised to be at my home before noon and he was. He came right in and immediately recognized the problem, and replaced a part. He's a consummate professional and knows his business, and he's also a gentleman. He's my hero!!
Description of Work: Job 1: Lower baking element replaced in whirlpool oven. ($82.70) Job 2: Refrigerator was making strange noises every few minutes. Unknown to me, thawing had begun. The problem was the compressor was unable to start due to a broken part. ($102.95)

I had called several appliance repair companies and no one was willing to even talked to me over the phone to find out what my problem was or attempt to give me a quote over the phone. They wanted to charge me $45 plus to come to my house without even hearing the problem. A lot of these companies were using dispatchers. John took my call personally, quoted the work over the phone, ordered the part and installed the new part within 24 hours of us calling. He was professional, easy to work with, timely and very cost effective. I will definately hire him again and tell my friends about him.
Description of Work: John replaced the spin-basket in my washing machine. My original spin basket was rusting and getting rust on our clothes.
