I purchased a Big Deal for a discount on furniture refinishing. Craig was very responsive and contacted me right away. He came to the house to look at the piece and give me a price. I admit I was a bit shocked at the price quoted, I hadn't expected it to be so much. I agreed to the price quote and he and I loaded the dresser into his van. He said it would be about 6 weeks to do the project. We talked a couple of times during that time. He kept me updated on the progress and even sent pictures. He called me when the dresser was finished and we set a date for him to deliver the piece. He arrived on time and we unloaded the dresser and he put the mirror back on and made sure everything was tight. The quality of the work was very good and the piece looks beautiful. The only thing that surprised me was the dresser was very dusty when Craig returned it. I was very pleased with his work and would use him again.

Very interesting dresser and mirror combination. Walnut with inlay details. The quoted price was reflective of the amount of work needed to put into this piece to bring it back to the condition that the customer was looking for and expecting. Sorry about the dust on top, sometimes things get moving pretty fast in the shop and I forgot to do the final dusting.

Paradigm, i.e. Craig, refinished and restored an antique china cabinet that had been stripped 40 years ago and been sitting unfinished in my garage. The color and finish is beautifully done, including the fretwork in the glass door. I am still working with Craig at Paradigm to find an appropriate keyhole cover and key. It is hard to find one that is not shiny brass!

It was nice to complete this project for the customer and restore the piece to it's original beauty after so many years of just sitting in the garage. I'm glad that she was happy with the final completed piece and glad that she was able to pass it on to her daughter for her family to enjoy for years to come.

When I called I spoke to owner and described what I wanted done. He came that afternoon! We inspected the cabinet together and he explained what he would have to do and gave me an estimate on what it would cost and how long he would keep it. He explained that there could be more problems when he got into the project but he would keep me informed. When he was finished he called and we discussed what color I wanted to finish it in. We decided on a natural finish (it was a dark before) with that he said he could deliver it by the weekend! My Grandmother would be very pleased to see her old cabinet, it is beautiful. He even replaced the old key!!! His price was in the range we had discussed and he had a 10% coupon for Angie's List members. He had the cabinet for about a month, I was in no hurry so that was fine with me. I am so glad I chose him to do the job I love my cabinet!

This was a beautiful oak china cabinet that was just due for some TLC. After stripping the piece, we discussed the final color she was hoping to achieve and we came to agreement on more of a natural aged look for the piece. With a little repair work also taken care of, this piece came out great! It should be good for another 50 years!!

He showed up yesterday on time. I expected that the whole job could be done within the $200 alloted, since it was a small job, and the previous estimate was $120. It was a solid wood kitchen table with a formica top. I only needed the edging of about an inch or so around the table itself and the legs done. He estimated $350 to $400 for the job! (Less the $100 coupon savings, it would still cost $250 to 300 for the job.) Obviously I declined and will get a refund of my original money from Angie's List (I hope that goes well...) The reason he gave for the very high estimate was that he would have to mask off the formica top with masking tape and newspaper and "that could take time"! I could do that in less than 5 minutes myself. I didn't accept his business card on his way out .
Description of Work: It was an Angie's List The Big Deal offer. $99 paid ahead for $200 of work. He came out to give us an estimate. I had already had an estimate a few years ago of $120 for the work, which I didn't do at the time.

While the estimate received by the customer several years before was not from me, she seemed to think that I would have a similar estimate and expected the whole job to be covered by the $200 Big Deal. When I gave her my estimate for the work and it was not what she expected, she got rather upset with me. I'm glad she was able to get a refund

It was a pleasurable experience working with Craig. He was responsive, pleasant, and even picked up and delivered the furniture at my house. Nice guy and does good work. Have already recommended him to a friend.
Description of Work: I had a dresser that was very badly damaged during transport from the factory to my home. All of the insides were completely busted out as we as a variety of cracks, nicks and scuffs on the exterior. Craig was able to repair the dresser with very good results using materials that are superior to what it was originally built with. The drawers don't function great, but they are operable. Without close inspection, you can't tell it was ever damaged.

We have an oval table approximately 4ft x 3ft with drop down wings. The top had become quite discolored from sunlight and from water marks. The top was stripped and refinished. The base of the table was touched up. The table looks great!!! (The reason I rated price at a "C" was that, from my limited experience with furniture refinishing, the cost was in line with others and not a good deal - but the work was first rate!)

t I bought an Angie's list special for repairing & refinishing furniture from Paradigm Furniture. Craig emailed very soon after the purchase wanting details of what I needed doing & other info about the piece. We set a time for him to see it & he was very punctual. After seeing the piece he determined that the cost would be a little more than the Angie's list special and was very good at explaining why and what all he would do. I figured it might be since a section was completely removed from the rocker arm, along with other structural problems and it needed completely refinishing. It also needed recovering, which he doesn't do, but was very helpful in finding someone close who was good at recovering older pieces & called and talked to the upholsterer himself. He wrote an estimate for the work and took the rocker with him that day. I told him there was no real rush for it, but he had it done within 2 1/2 weeks. Craig called me to set up a time to meet at the upholsterer & when I saw the rocker I was amazed! You couldn't tell the arm had been in pieces at all!! The finish looked like new. He had saved all the fabric & stuffing (horsehair) that had come off it so the upholsterer could use the stuffing & it would hold it's value. Craig was a pleasure to work with & gem to find in that he cares about old pieces and putting them back to their glory. I hope to be able to use his services again soon as I have several old pieces that need work. I word recommend him in a heartbeat if you have older pieces that you would like to see restored.

This customer was a pleasure to work with. Her rocking chair that needed work had one arm in pieces (and she had luckily saved all the pieces) and was badly in need of refinishing. I carefully removed all of the old upholstery and saved it. At that point the work could begin on the wood frame of the chair and repair of the arm. Once the repairs were completed, I completed the refinishing work. With my work done, I arranged to meet the customer at a local upholsterer that I have worked with before and handed off the old material, horse hair padding, and the repaired/refinished chair to him so that he could reupholster the chair with the material the customer supplied. The chair came out beautiful and can be used in the customer's home as a family heirloom. I'm glad that I was able to help restore this family piece for the customer!

It went fine. He did a really good job. I thought it was expensive, but haven't used a furniture repair person before, so I can't really say. But it worked. Overall I'm happy with it. He called right away and scheduled me quickly. I had two chairs that were broken and I was hoping to get both of them done for that price, but I just could have afforded the one. I don't want to say anything bad about that provider. I would use him again. He came and picked the chair up and did the repair work wherever he does repair work and then he brought it back. That was nice. He did a good job.

Craig Mann was completely professional in describing what the process involved. Kept me informed throughout the process. Even went a step beyond by finding a key to fit the original lock. Craig is meticulous, and offers his opinion, while respecting the client's opinion and, obvious right, to the final say. The cost was not insignificant; however, I am very satisfied with the final product; and have a piece of my childhood memory that occupies a special place in our home.
Description of Work: Redesigned, refinished an antique china cabinet which had previously been altered in an unsatisfactory way; the top of the china cabinet had been mounted to the buffet. Also, the color is consistent since Craig refinished the piece.

This project involved custom work and repair/refinishing. It was very challenging to design and build a new lower section of the china cabinet so that it looked like it had always been together. Once the base was complete, then the upper part of the china cabinet had to be repaired and color matched to the bottom section. The customer was great to work with. Thank you for the nice review and comments. I look forward to more projects with her.

We had Thanksgiving dinner at our for the family and after dinner I forgot to pick up a couple of the drinking glasses. The glasses remained there until late in the night before I noticed them. One of the glasses was sitting directly on the table while the other was on a table mat, but had soaked through to the wood. The one directly on the was deep. We thought the table had a tough enough finish to withstand this, but obviously not. I tried different remedies to fix the tough spot and was not able to do anything other than make it worse. We called Craig at Paradigm and he came out to look at the damage and gave us an estimate on the spot. When the table was completed and delivered you could hardly tell where the stain had been. I knew where it was, but my wife still doesn't know and I won't tell her. Craig put a more durable mat finish on the table plus the leaves and it looks great. I think with the new finish it looks better than when we bought it 14 years ago. Craig is very courteous and knowledgeable and easy to work with. His actual cost came in well below the estimate he provided. I would highly recommend Paradigm and will use them again.
Description of Work: Our formal dining room table and one of the leaves had water marks with one of them very severe deep into the wood. The water marks were repaired and a complete refinishing of the table, legs and 2 leaves was completed.

Craig came to our house, disassembled the bed and took away the pieces the same day and returned the the finished pieces the following Saturday and reassembled the bed. He was wonderful to work with - prompt, professional, talented, etc. I don't know how much this custom work should cost, but Craig charged a price that we were willing to pay to have this done with this level of high quality work. You can't tell that the footboard was ever cut down!
Description of Work: Craig remodeled the footboard and sideboards of our sleigh bed. He cutt down oard and removed decorative wood pieces from the side boards so the side rails and footboard are the same height. He finished the exposed wood to matach the rest of the bed.

The work was finished within estimated price and time. I delivered the items to his shop. 1) The condition of the damaged speakers was poor, but the repaired areas are now only noticeable upon intentional inspection. 2) The chair is solid, and isn't going to come apart again.
Description of Work: There were two jobs. 1) The boxes that housed a pair of floor-standing tower-style stereo speakers were damaged by pet urine. Craig Mann removed portions of the swelled medium density particle board at the bottoms of the boxes while saving and reattaching the vinyl exterior surface material. 2) A dining room chair was coming apart, partly through use but partly due to weak original design. Craig repaired and strengthened the chair. He charged $125 for each speaker and $100 for the chair, prices that were much less than replacement costs for each of the items.

The repair of the chair was fairly straightforward and just involved correction of a design flaw by the manufacturer of the chair. The speaker boxes proved to be a little more involved because of the use of MDF for their construction. After some brain-storming on possible solutions, a procedure was settled on that removed the damaged portions of the speaker boxes and was able to hide the repairs. Thanks again for the nice comments and favorable review.

About half way through, Craig sent an email stating progress and that he was on schedule. Then, a few days before it was completed, he gave me a final update and the final bill, which was less than the estimate and he added an "Angie's List" discount!!! He offered to put a red ribbon around it, since I was planning to bring my wife to pick it up. Tonight, we arrived and he had the table covered. My wife was clueless about the surprise and I had tried to get her to guess what I was up to...he removed the cloth and there it was - beautifully refinished with a red ribbon!! It looked like a very well maintained, old piece, that is, it looked "original". It did not look "refinished/fixed" at all!! Though my wife is not one to get very excited (a bit embarrassed in the presence of a "stranger"), she was amazed by Craig's ability to restore it. By this time, Craig was "my best friend"!! On the way home, she expressed her gratitude for my thoughtfulness and remarked over and over at how nicely restored it is. Thanks, Craig. You do fantastic work!!! I hope this review clearly states my high recommendation for refinishing service. Oh, my wife is thinking about another project, already!
Description of Work: I found this shop owned and operated by Craig Mann via AL. I read the review and due to proximity and the high reviews, I took two pieces to him. We quickly decided the first one would better serve someone else, as is. I appreciated his honesty. The second piece is a small, family heirloom in my wife's family, which has been in storage for years - A table that my wife recalls her Grandfather used for his oil lamp (to light his home). It was in about 5 pieces with serious blemishes on the top surface and cracked legs. Getting it repaired/restored was a surprise plan for my wife for a Valentine's Day gift. I had a great chat with Craig, and we found some common threads in our lives. Craig gave it a thorough examination and told me what he would need to do and provided a written estimate. I had kind of waited until the last minute to take this to him less than two weeks before hoping to get it back, Feb 14. He said it was just not possible, and being in his shop, and seeing the complex projects he had before him, was very willing to take a picture as the surprise to slip in her card for her gift-to-be. The estimate seemed reasonable, but, of course, I had no idea what I was going to get for the price, but seeing his work in progress, I was pretty confident that it would be nice (and worth it). Within a few days, Craig sent an email explaining that he looked at his schedule and had adequate periods to move my piece in and get it completed before Valentine's Day. I was thrilled. He added that he really appreciated my intention and wanted to fulfill my plan.

Thank you for the very nice review and comments. This was one of those projects that makes my job fun! Starting with a pile of parts that all needed help, the repairs of stand were straight forward. Then everything had to be reglued back together to reform the stand. Once that was done, I started on the refinishing work. As the customer mentioned, I worked in each of these steps between other larger projects and was still able to keep the completion of the stand on his tight schedule. It was nice gesture for him to have this piece completed in time for Valentines Day and I was glad to I could help him out with this little surprise for his wife. We all have these types of sentimental family pieces that need some type of help and I was glad that I could be of service.

Work was completed a week early and there were no surprises. Craig was also accommodating in working with the person doing the restoration on the desk and even met us at the shop in Carmel to turn over the drawer and was ready to make any additional adjustments if needed...which they weren't. Please note that this online form is not letting me state accurately that the work was performed at Paradigm because it requires me to include a date the home was built, which is not applicable for this type of service.
Description of Work: Brought Craig a desk drawer from a 1920s era spinet desk that is being restored by another service provider. The mate to the drawer has been gone for years, so I needed a duplicate made of the existing drawer. Craig was able to replicate the drawer so precisely, including the dovetailed joints, that when we slipped the new drawer in its slot next to the existing drawer it fit perfectly and matched exactly. Considering that he did the work without having the actual desk for reference, I am particularly impressed with the result.

I started out talking to another Angie's List provider who only had two reports, but offered a really good deal via an email blast I received one day, so I bought the deal. He was difficult to deal with from the beginning, arrogant, and was all about doing things his way. In short he rubbed me the wrong way and I knew if I went with him to do the repair, it would mean mental stress. I called Angie's List and they refunded my payment immediately and I was free to choose another guy from the list. So I ended up paying more for Craig and got a better treatment for the sofa and my soul at the same time. Craig came over within 24 hours to consult with me about the sofa. He was both patient and kind and helped guide me through the possibilities for a solution. He told me that the wood trim on the sofa was maple. He said he would research manufactured hardwood legs and send me the results of his search to confirm a solution. A day or two later he emailed over pictures of the maple legs he wanted to use and said he could match the stain. Then 10 days later he came back over with the perfectly matched new legs and installed them for me with little nylon buffers to prevent more scratches to my hardwood floors. I was so impressed by him, that I asked him to look at my 1930's heavy walnut dining room suite which has some repair issues including loose chairs, chipped veneer, and other issues. He suggested we approach that project one bite at a time starting with repairing the damage on the chairs one at a time so it is affordable for me. He's charging around $100 for each chair. He also expertly informed me that the dining room suite I have (albeit a bit beat up) is far better quality than furniture made today and it is worth repairing. While he was here, he showed me his portfolio. The man is a craftsman, an artisan. He showed me true marquetry inlay furniture with inlay that he built from scratch. He needs to enter the toughest juried art fairs in the country and get on wider radar. His skill level is actually far above probably what you need for your project, but he won't treat you like it is. Right after I hired him, I saw an article about him in the Indy Star that Angie wrote. I picked a winner. And my sofa? It's perfect and fabulous now.
Description of Work: Removed six casters from a very good hardwood framed vintage sofa and replaced the legs with maple legs to match the trim of the sofa. I purchased the sofa last year for $400 on Craig's List from a girl who recently inherited it from her grandmother. The sofa was in a room, covered and protected in plastic, since the day it was purchased new in the 1950's (and it was an expensive sofa then). A similar quality sofa purchased today would be $4000 to $6000 minimum, so investing a little more in the legs was a good investment.

As stated above, he took the broken section without the doors and adjustable shelves, to his shop and completed the work as estimated matching perfectly to the existing wood and texture.
Description of Work: We have a cherry desk and credenza set in our office and in moving it we broke the shelving unit on top of the credenza – the side piece and bottom shelf. We contacted Craig at Paradigm to see if he could do the work and got an estimate from him and decided to have him do the work. He replaced the broken pieces and rebuilt with the existing cabinet pieces, doors and shelves. The work was very professional and the cherry and finish for the new pieces matched the existing cherry pieces. We cannot tell the new pieces from the existing pieces. He finished the work to meet our dates and delivered and completed the existing shelving and doors on site.

Craig came to our house, examined the table and gave an estimate to repair and refinish the table along with a proposed date for return. The table came back in spectacular repaired and refurbished condition as promised and on time.

Craig was great to work with. We contacted him and explained what we were looking for and he set up a time to come by and look at the piece. Then he worked up an estimate and sent us drawings and before long we moved forward - this was approx 2 months ago. We needed to visit him once or twice to make decisions on leg style, color, etc. He always kept in touch and moved along on the project nicely, getting it finished in the time frame he promised and within the price range he'd estimated. It turned out beautifully, and Craig delivered it to us this past Saturday. I highly recommend working with Craig as he's quite skilled and pleasant to work with. We will have other projects in the future to be done with Craig and Paradigm!
Description of Work: Craig took an old Library table - family piece from my Aunt (which had been cut down for a coffee table decades ago) and custom made it back to a 40" height, added a shelf, and refinished it all - for our intended purpose to hold audio components (but will be great for any use in the future!). The "before and after" pictures tell it all!

Craig built a desk for us several years ago. He worked with my husband to design the type of desk that he wanted both in terms of size and features. We were very pleased with the desk and still get many compliments on it. More recently we took a picture of a coffee table that we saw while on vacation to Craig and he worked with us to make modifications and build something similar for us. We are very pleased with the coffee table. We added some features which were challenging to accommodate but Craig was able to do this and stain the wood to match our current cabinets. All in all it was a good experience.
Description of Work: Build a desk and a coffee table.
