The owner came out to my house and gave me tips to try to help with my water/basement problem without even charging me for the trip out! He told me to try a few things before getting into some serious construction and changes.

I was so impressed with the way they handled this because it was such a minor problem. Others were trying to sell us a whole bunch of other stuff. This guy came out and told me exactly what we needed to do. We were overall impressed with his professionalism. It was a free estimate.

Son of owner was 10 minutes late for appointment. He did a very cursory review of the basement and exterior and offered very little explanation of what appears to be a proprietary waterproofing system. Although it was a reasonably sized repair job (he verbally indicated approximately $6000-7000), more than 60 days since his visit, we have yet to receive a quote. I don't appreciate a contractor wasting my time, especially since I took time off of work to meet the contractor.

This is the second time we have used MR. Build/A-1 Indiana Waterproofing. Both experiences were very positive. The company's owner, Wayne Roberts, is honest, knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have about his product and services. Mr. Robert's employees are well-trained, friendly, and do good work. Keep in mind that jackhammering concrete is messy and creates a lot of dust. The company hung a plastic barrier in an attempt to contain the dust in the basement, but the contemporary (i.e. open) design of my home allowed quite a bit of concrete dust to make its way upstairs to the main area of my home. In hindsight, if I knew how messy the job would be, I would have attempted to cover as much furniture as possible before the work began. The good news is that the company worked with me to make sure that all of the concrete dust was cleaned-up at the conclusion of the job.

He was very polite when he came out. It seemed he would be able to take care of all our needs. However, I never received the estimate in the mail. When I contacted the company, I had to call twice to get a response. He told me that he did not keep a copy of the estimate and he would need to come back out. No one ever contacted us to make an appointment for that. Based on these experiences I elected not to have them come back out for an estimate.

He was really nice and honest. He gave me a lot of suggestions for what we needed to do once he realized it wasn't his type of work that needed to be done.

Overall, the project went well, and thus far, there has been no water in the basement, though the problem we have is very unpredictable so we won't know for a while if it is completely fixed. The biggest disappointment I had about this job was that I had specifically requested that they cover doorways to prevent the spread of mess. They did so during the first (and messiest) phase when they were using jackhammer into concrete but didn't when they were doing some sawing of replacement trim, so there was a lot of dust to do not only in the room where they were working but in the adjacent room where we had moved everything.

Came out very quickly and looked at the job (exterior foundation grading and basement window well build-up) that we wanted to have done. A-1 could not complete the job because it is not part of what they do, but recommended another contractor. They also gave us information about what exactly to have done. This gave us the confidence to do the work ourselves with the help of a family member who is a retired contractor. We were very happy with A-1's professionalism and honesty. I would recommend them for their knowledge about home improvement!

They were polite and made the appointment on time. Their explanation of the system was thorough.

They took $1,000 off and did not put in a fan. I appreciated that because we did not need the fan that goes into the window. He said it would be kind of a waste. They didnt have to tell me that, but they did. They did a really good job. They are real honest.

Mr. Dick gave a competitive estimate and explained options thoroughly. Mr. Ed Moore, as crew chief, ran a tight ship. The crew was polite, punctual, hard working, protected floors, and treated clean-up as if it was their own home. Great job!

Bill and Wayne were wonderful to work with. This was a nightmare job with extensive unforeseen complications on a nearly 100 year-old basement. They were exceptional throughout the entire process and extremely professional.

Was very polite and nice, on time, really appreciated him being so honest and also his advice on what I could do to fix the problem myself.

Professional sales presentation and bid, but cost was higher than other two vendors quoted.

Steve Kenny came out and checked out our crawl space to find out where the bad smells were coming from. He said we could go the conservative route. This included all new vapor barrier and a new type of dehumidifier. Steve Kenny said he would bring an estimate by the next day. The following week he called to see what we had decided. I explained I still did not have an estimate. He again said he would drop off one in our mail box the next day. We have not received an estimate. We have now gone with another company. The company we went with also found out the smells in the crawl space were coming from where the gutters were emptying into the tile that is running across part of the crawl space. These tiles had cracks in them which let water come in the crawl space and keep the ground wet. By Mr Build/A-1 not following through with their estimate has worked out best for us. Installing a new vapor barrier and dehumidifier would have not solved our problem.

I think they did a pretty good job. There were a couple of windows cracked, but they came out and replaced the windows. They were punctual, and they completed the work quicker than they thought they would. Overall, the experience was good. There was a little moisture about a week ago, but they said because of the new concrete that was laid that will happen.

All members of A-1 staff were polite, and did a great job and explained how everything worked, and the workers had great supervision by the owner of the company. The price was reasonable.

Salesman was prompt, honest, and he helped make sure service was delivered on a timely basis as we are preparing our house for sale. Competitive pricing. Workers were professional, on time and completed the work in one day.

They were excellent, work came with a lifetime warranty that goes with the house! I am so pleased with the the service results, it was well worth the money. I would definitely recommend them to others. They were very courteous, kind and professional.

He never called or came back out. I called him 3 weeks later, and he said that he would be out the next week. I havent heard from them since. They started out great, responsive and did good work, and I am so disappointed! They have great ratings, but they just havent responded back to us.

He spent almost an hour here and determined it was a blocked condensation drain coming from the furnace. He actually took a glass of water and (after pulling up the carpet, etc trying to determine cause) poured the water near the furnace and it rolled right to the area which is wet. I'm pretty sure he's right, and he didn't charge me anything! He said that they give free estimates and I'll need a furnace company to take care of the problem. I appreciate his honesty. Just amazing.

Overall, it was a very positive experience. The A-1 crew was very hard working and did a superb job. The price seemed reasonable, and everything was well explained. My only real problem was that I was told the job would take four days. It actually took 1 day.

If I had it all to do over again, I don't know that I would have this company do the work again. We were left with less than wonderful concrete patching over the trench; large clumps of concrete made the floor not level. One door would not close over the concrete. The floor installer after A-1 needed to bring in a concrete sander, so he could smooth the concrete in order to install tile because a leveler would not be sufficient. The sloppiest areas are close to walls and in corners and in tight areas to reach. Even though they have a lifetime guarantee, when I showed that there was water damage to the walls that I painted OVER A YEAR AFTER the basement was waterproofed, I was charged for grading outside the basement. So I'm not really sure what the guarantee really works for. If it's not for water seepage, what is it good for? The drain line from the basement to the street could have been left nicer, maybe with sod or grass seed.

I contacted this company because of their excellent reports on Angie's List. Mr Roberts came out, discovered we had a small leak in the drainline, some wastewater was coming into the crawl space and some damp areas from groundwater. He recommended drain tiles, additional sump pump (we have one in the basement)and an air purifier. A humidifier was also suggested, but I declined. I felt the leak was the major issue, but he would only repair that with the rest of the job. The price he gave me over the phone was high, but may well be in line with others. I asked him to just confirm the price of the work without the wastewater leak in writing, as I would get that done separately as a priority. It has been 21 days since his visit and I have yet to receive anything in writing.
