Since 1976, A-1 Indiana Waterproofing Inc. has provided over 40,000 customers dry basements and structural repairs. We are proud of the fact that we have become Indiana’s "oldest & most trusted" basement foundation repair company.
Provider gave an estimate twice as high as other companies providing the same service. I emailed the company w/my complaint and did not hear back from the company.
Description of Work: Would not recommend this co. they lack professionalism, Wayne Roberts is not professional, he asked if I was married (what does that have to do w/waterproofing) I found that creepy, alone in my basement w/a strange man twice my size. The estimate was twice the amount of other waterproofing companies in the area, perhaps that has to do w/being married or not. Estimate was not broken down in any type of detail as what pump was going to be used etc. He was late for appt. I can understand being late, but call and state the fact.

I contacted them at the recommendation of another Angie's List service provider. He spent a lot of time and was very thorough. However, despite me providing him with my email address on 2 occasions, I never received an estimate or any written results of his findings. I am reluctant to use him for any work.

They were very, very nice. They were honest and told me there was nothing that needed to be done. I really appreciated that because some people wouldn't have been quite as honest.

He also recommended someone, a subcontractor to come out and actually build me a crawl space door or hatch and he has done that. He has done a very good job. That wasn't even part of his company. He had nothing to gain from that. The gentleman that owns A-1 I thought was very good, very professional. Very friendly. I was very pleased with him. But it was only a quote. It wasn't service provided.

He appeared very knowledgeable and experienced and spent a good deal of time inspecting the crawl space. He said he would take pictures, but I never saw them. He also pointed out problems with the foundation and talked at length about how that would be repaired. I did not plan on foundation repair at this time, but I didn't mind his talking about it since it's something I'll eventually have to have done. He gave me a fancy brochure and pamphlets fo his company. In passing, he mentioned approximate costs for vapor barrier installation and a dehumidification system. He took my e-mail, and I expected he would send a proposal. About a week passed and, not hearing anything, I called the office to remind them that I would be interested in looking at an estimate for the recommended work...nothing. I never received any follow-up at all. So my question is: Why would he waste two hours of my time and his and not bother to follow it up with a written estimate--especially when it's a major job costing at least several thousand dollars? Not too impressive!
Description of Work: The technician came to the house and inspected the crawl space in order to provide an estimate for clean-up, removal of old insulation, installation of a vapor barrier, and generally to give me his expert opinion of what needed to be done to take care of any bad odors in the home.

Workers showed up as scheduled on 9/30/2013 and started on the wall that needed replaced. In the process of tearing out the wall they found out that there wasn't a footing under that wall. Our project supervisor Ed suggested that we have a footing put in so the new wall would have proper support? The other wall did not have a footer under it either, so they dug down and put a steel beam under it and installed two low profile piers under it. This was done so we didn't have to replace that wall. It also stabilized and kept it from sagging any further. Next they installed the drainage system in the basement floor, connected it to the sump pit. They also ran the sump pump drainage line out the basement wall out into the yard. After the project was done they cleaned up inside and out beyond my expectations. I would highly recommend A-1 Waterproofing to anyone who need this type of work done.
Description of Work: Replaced one basement wall and put in a new footer. Installed two low profile piers under the second wall and put steel beam under that wall to support it. Installed drainage system in basement floor. Put in new sump pit and lid. Ran drainage line through wall and out into the yard.

From contacting for a free estimate, inspections, follow up, and actual work done to completion, everyone involved at A1 was wonderful. I was always informed of procedures, start and complete dates, how the work would be done. I was encouraged to contact them with any questions at any time. The assistance provided for financing was also easy and affordable. The workers showed up on time each day and worked the full day. At each step in the procedure and was shown the work completed and informed of the next step. They were also very kind and professional. I would recommend A1 Waterproofing highly

We needed someone to clean out the crawl space in our home where the builders had left some bricks, plumbing, and wood products. We also needed to have a sump pump installed, drainage put in, and joists replaced. A-1 Waterproofing was extremely responsive, helpful, and professional. They were willing to work with us on a solution instead of just offering a one-size solution that was more than we needed like the other providers we talked to about the problem. We would highly recommend A-1 Waterproofing for any drainage/crawl space needs.

Our experience with A-1 was really good in some ways and really bad in others. The work that Justin did was fantastic. He and his partner were hard workers, communicated well and did a great job. We have had no water in our basement since the project was complete, which we are very grateful for. Unfortunately, communication from the salesman and the office were less than desirable. To start with our contract was "lost in the mail." I'm pretty sure he just forgot to mail it. Then, after the project was complete, our salesman stopped by unexpectedly to look at the work that had been done and make sure we were satisfied. He said that he felt like they needed to add some more gravel to the window well. This window well has a bay window built over it and has shelves in front of it in the basement. But, I figured it wouldn't hurt anything. He said that he would let the office know and that they would be out in the next couple of weeks. When a month went by with no word from them, I called. No one would take responsibility for dropping the ball and it took multiple phones calls on my part, which is very unprofessional to me. Then, I finally got a call from Justin stating that he would be at our house in about an hour. Unfortunately, no one from the office bothered to call and tell me this. Long story a little shorter, Justin was the only one out of everyone that I interacted with that was kind, professional and followed through on what he said. So, despite the fact that our basement is dry, I'm not sure that I would go through the hassle of dealing with them again. ***Update***** Our side yard, where A1 rerouted our sump pump, was a soggy mess all summer and sent water on to our neighbors driveway and toward her house, despite the fact it was not a wet summer. Because of the poor customer service we received from A1, we decided to get bids from other companies to fix the problem. Meanwhile, a city official came to our house to tell us what our options were for tying our sump pump in to the city storm drain. We were told by him (city engineer) that our sump pump drain was too close to our property line and not to code. That was our 1st additional problem. Then, the company we selected started digging and found: 1. a large amount of standing water underground right outside our house and 2. that our new drainage system pipe was cut where it came up against our sprinkler system and then restarted on the other side, causing much of the water to head right back toward our foundation. I called Mark, our salesperson from A1, and told him what had happened. He said he would pass the information on to Wayne and have him call me. More than a week later, I called the office because I had not received a return call from Wayne. The lady took my information and Wayne actually called me back within a couple hours. I explained the situation with him and our dissatisfaction and disappointment with their work. Wayne was very defensive and obstinate. My goal was not to gouge them, only for him to admit that their work was not what it should have been and receive some sort of apology. He was insistent that they did nothing wrong and was argumentative with me about our city ordinances (he basically tried to tell me that the city engineer that came to our house and supervised the new work was wrong). It was an extremely frustrating conversation. My whole point was for him to recognize their lack of customer service and quality communication. Instead, he just further proved his lack of both. I finally told him that I felt we needed to end the conversation because it was not productive and that he may be receiving a phone call from my husband, to which Wayne said, "Have your husband call me." Well, my husband did call him. The next day. And, guess what, Wayne has never called him back.

Okay, but wouldn't hire this company. See above details.
Description of Work: Inspector came to diagnose our basement water issue. He was nice, but I had 3 Angie's List companies out to quote and discuss the problems. The other 2 companies agreed on what to do, but A1 Indiana Waterproofing's solution was different and pretty extreme given our limited water issue. I inspector told me many horror stories of others and I got the impression that he was a "Chicken Little" and the sky was going to fall. He spent 3 hours in our home talking and diagnosing, but never stepped outside to look at where the water was coming in. Although I think his suggestions would have solved the problem, it was complete overkill in cost and project scope. Be leery of jumping in with this company and doing more work than necessary.

Initially, I contacted four companies for an estimate to waterproof our basement after reviewing their reviews here. Of the four (A-1, Advanced Restoration & Waterproofing (ARW), Crawlspace Doctor, and Indiana Foundation Service (IFS) I contacted three via their websites ( A-1, Crawlspace Dr, IFS) and contacted ARW by phone (ran short on time). Due to the recent flooding in central Indiana all of the contractors were very busy. Initially when I spoke with the lady from ARW she said it might be June before they would be able to give a estimate, but if I had some flexibility she would contact the managing partner to see if he had any availability since they had a current project near my home. Within two hours, he contacted me to discuss scheduling an appointment. Of the three contacted through their websites, IFS contacted me within two hours, Crawlspace Dr called in about four hours, but I was told they do only crawlspaces (an area for improvement for Angie's List since I searched for basement waterproofing). I waited a week for A-1 to contact me and they never did. I called them asked for a estimate and told them that they needed to check on their website since I hadn't been contacted in a week. The lady I spoke with said they had been short staffed. An appointment was scheduled for a week later. Honestly the only reason I gave them a second chance was due to the reviews here. Since I worked several years in project management responsible for scheduling manpower and equipment for anywhere 50-150 clients many times where we had to have someone onsite within four hours of contact 24/7 (email or phone). I would have understood a couple days being short handed, but I'm not sure if they would have ever contacted me if I hadn't called them. The person giving our estimate arrived 15 minutes late and did not offer a apology or reason for their lateness. Which always makes me think they don't value my time as much as theirs. When choosing a contractor, one of the things that is equally important to us is how likable is the contractor. Is he someone that you want to do business with or is he/she brash and difficult to deal with. Our experience was the later. Also, a person has to take into account whether or not the estimator would be involved in the project or just giving the estimate. Its one thing if you have a bad experience with the person giving the estimate but know that you don't to deal with them after the estimate, it's a another thing all together if you will be dealing with them from start to finish of your project, in the event you have problems and potentially on future projects. Another important factor is responsiveness, which A-1 has a problem that they need to resolve or their "A" rating is going to start sinking. Contacting a company when they are at their busiest time is a indicator of how well they will respond in the future. While A-1 gave us a folder on their waterproofing product, it did not contain any specifics(horsepower, capacity, size of discharge line, warranty, etc) on the sump pump and system used. As a result, a person could not easily compare their product with others. As a result, when we weighted the project cost, responsiveness of the company, the professionalism, product and how personable the person we would be interacting with, we decided A-1 fell short in comparison to the other companies mentioned above.

RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Having problem with basement window well flooding, causing water to come in through window. Called A-1 to see if they could send someone out to assess the problem and give estimate. The man on the phone was VERY rude. He asked why we never had it fixed before. I also told him my basement was in the process of drying out from a failed sump pump this week. He just kept adding more stress to the situation by telling me I should have had the window fixed before. I told him there was nothing I could do to change past decisions.....that I just needed to get it fixed now, and either they were interested in the work or they weren't. At that point he hung up the phone.

Mark Ruetsch came to our house and spent a considerable amout of time determining what the problem might be. He provided me with a brochure detailing their company and what I could expect from them. He also had another company come out the take down part of our dry wall where he felt we could have a problem. This company was also very professional and completed work on time. Mark came out a third time to explain the findings and give us a detailed plan as to what and how the work was to be completed. He had another company come out the seal the basement where he determined the problem was, dig the appropriate areas to lay gravel, dig and bury the down spout drainage. We were very happy with all the work!

Mark Ruetsch came out at a scheduled time and did an inspection. First, he went outside to the corner of concern on our home. He was incredibly thorough and professional. As the homeowner, I was with him during his tour of our home and he explained everything he was doing and why. After he looked at the outside, he went to the basement to get in the crawl space to evaluate any moisture or foundation issues. The next step he did was to look at the rooms on the main level of the house to see if there were any cracks or moisture. The last step he did was walk the back side of the house to make sure there weren't other issues. The end result was that we do not have a foundation problem and he did not try to sell us on something we don't need. Mr. Ruetsch was open with information and told us honestly that we did not need any repairs. I not only would highly recommend this company but if Mr, Ruetsch is representative of the company personnel, they are to be commended for their integrity and professionalism. We were very impressed.
Description of Work: We thought we might have settling in the foundation on one corner of our home. We scheduled an appointment for an estimate with A-1 Indiana Waterproofing. Apparently, to do a thorough assessment, the inspector needs to look at the outside of the house as well as the crawl space and even the rooms near the area of concern.
