All went well with the estimate portion(March 25th). My only concern was the length of time it will take for the installation. April 10th is the earliest date which is more than two weeks. Perma-Seal has done other work for me that was very good and all of their employees have represented their company well. That is what makes the wait tolerable for my delivery of product and service expectations. Part II Victor called 20 minutes prior to his arrival. Upon arrival Victor introduced himself confirmed the work to be done and started on the task at hand. After completion we reviewed the work (which was performed quite well). In addition, he reiterated the warranty.
Description of Work: Austin showed up on time to assess my request and give me an estimate. He was courteous, professional and thorough. The estimate was a solid price for the value given (lifetime guarantee) for window wells .

We started noticing cracks in the walls in our house and our front door was sticking and sometimes not opening. We then noticed cracks outside on our foundation. I called Perma Seal because they are a well known company with a lot of good feedback on Angies List. Joseph Sindelar came out on February 15 and looked around. He said that he would send his structural team out on February 18. Kevin Gray and John Ferguson came out and looked around outside and inside the house. They used measurements and a laser beam to determine that my house was sinking. The house and the front porch needed to be lifted using piers. They showed us a presentation and described exactly what needed to be done to correct this situation. My garage floor was also sinking and cracking but since it is not actually attached to the house there was nothing they could do about that. Because of the cost involved we met with two other vendors to see what they had to say about how the situation should be dealt with. Both of the other vendors pretty much told us exactly the same things that Perma Seal said on what needed to be done to fix the house. The main reason we did not use Perma Seal was because they do not do concrete jobs. Once they removed concrete from any of the areas that need to be dug up to install the piers we would then have to get another company to reinstall the concrete. That was going to add to the already steep price tag. The company that we chose is going to pour new concrete where necessary. They are also going to give us a new garage floor for a total cost of about $3,000 less.
It went extremely well. They called the day before to confirm the time of when work to begin the next day. The crew (Foreman was Tomas) arrived on time and began work immediately. I would recommend covering anything that you own that is near the work area in plastic. They don't cover your personal stuff. Following the prep sheet they provide you at the contract signing was key to this. I had read this before they came so I was prepared and had everything covered in plastic and moved at least 5 feet from any work area. Tomas informed me to remove our base molding (in the finished area of the basement) before they began as it could get damaged. Took me 15 minutes. No problem. Also, he recommended that I remove the 4 stairs that lead to the basement to allow them to get deeper to the foundation. I agreed this was probably the best idea. They wouldn't do that demo. So he gave me his Sawsall and I went to work. I didn't have an issue with this. I love demo and power tools:) I did have to replace them myself. No big deal, cost me 40 bucks in lumber and a couple hours the day after they finished. New skill added to my repertoire. Since the work was done in winter, there was quite a bit of mud that can be tracked around. They did their best to keep the mess to a minimum. I was actually pretty surprised at how minimal the mess was. I was expecting much worse. Day one was running electrical for the Sump Pumps (done during the 1st hour), jackhammering up the floor, digging the sump pit, digging the trenches for the piping and laying the gravel/stone over the piping. Day two was laying the flowguards, installing the wall liners, hooking up the sump pumps and pouring concrete. They were pretty crafty about getting the stone and concrete in. They removed a 5" x 16" vent window from my exterior glass brick wall in the basement. They fashioned a chute to bring in all the stone and concrete through this. Also, pretty impressive. They were done by 2pm on day 2. I was down there watching everything that they did and asking questions the entire time for both days. Tomas was great at answering all my questions and explaining all the steps that they were doing. They didn't seemed bothered by me whatsoever. :) Each day they cleaned up their mess very well. Wiping walls, sweeping floors all day, washing floors near the entry door at the top of the stairs that I demo'd, as that took the brunt of the debris. It was their exit and entry point for most of the materials. Great learning experience for me as well. The concrete takes about 24 hours to set before you can walk on it. 3 days to cure completely. All in all, I was very happy with the work that was done. I'm now obsessive about checking the sump and for any water in the basement. Sump is holding water, haven't heard the pumps activate yet and the rest of basement is dry as a bone. So far so good!!!
Description of Work: Interior drainage tile systems for entire basement perimeter. Wall liners added to all unfinished walls. Sump pit installed with 2 pumps (main and Battery back-up). Electrical installed as well. It was a 2 day job.

When the crack was previously fixed the company had a 10 year warranty. It is now 12 years later and the fix has failed but Perma-Seal now offers a lifetime warranty for the same work. I had two workers come out who said there is absolutely no difference in how they fill the crack today in relation to how they filled the crack 10+ years ago. The difference is the warranty and I will have to pay to have the same crack filled again - for more money. I showed my paperwork and asked for even a slight discount but was denied. I would understand if there was some new technology in use that warranted the lifetime guarantee, but since it is the exact same workmanship that was in use 10+ years ago when my crack was filled, as a previous customer who can prove Permaseal did the work I feel asking for a slight discount is reasonable and fair. Permaseal is missing the lesson on Business 101 - excellent customer service ensures customer loyalty - something every great business already knows and practices. Too bad for permaseal -you lost this customer.

I was not happy with them. I felt that they could do some scam on me because I am a senior citizen and alone in the house. I ended up not availing of their service. I saw them on the advertisements on the radio and television. When the guy came to do the estimate, he spent an hour or more with me and he kept on going around. When he was giving me the estimate, he kept on adding up on the price. We started out with $500 worth and he ended up with an almost $4000. I really felt that he thought I was stupid.

My advice to others is to proceed with caution. The work they performed was good, acceptable and satisfactory for the purpose. There was no fault with the work itself. It is the people that I dealt with that were unprofessional. They gave me the distinct impression that they were doing me a favor by taking my money and doing work for me.

It was costly, but I've had the system before, so I was aware of how much it would cost. But with sump pumps and back-ups you tend to get what you pay for. I think they are pretty professional. The only problem they are having now is they have so much business that they are picking out new personnel or maybe subbing out, and so I am very careful and I'll ask for someone who has been with the company for a number of years. Or if I had a good experience with someone, for example, the young man who installed my sump pump system has been with the company for a while and did a very nice job in explaining very thoroughly. So I asked for him to do the install on my hot water heater and he will be doing so. And if they don't send him, I will be very unhappy. It very much depends on who comes out. On the whole I think most of their personnel are pretty professional and well trained. The person who came out to give me a quote on the sump I wasn't real pleased with, but it wasn't really his area. They did make a mistake on a quote, telling that I owed more, it was simply an error and I really did think the problem with Perma-Seal is that it is a big company with a good name and they simply have tons of business. So I think sometimes things happen because they just have too much business, which is not a bad problem to have if you are running a business. They tend to be one of the more expensive companies around. The quality depends on what you pay; the sizes of the pumps, how much horse power, how much water it can pump in a certain amount of time, so as you go up the scale, it cost more. And they do a lot of advertising. They are more expensive, but there are reasons why they are and you have a little more recourse, because they do a lot of advertising. If I have a problem I would call them.
Description of Work: I have used Perma-Seal Basement Systems to do an install on a sump pump and they are going to do an install on a hot water tank for me.

They were very thorough, prompt, professional, but it took me 6 weeks to get the appointment despite the fact that we have young kids, were concerned about mold forming under our tiles, and had water dripping down our walls. They said they would give me an "emergency priority"- how long do the people have to wait who don't have emergencies?! Wow. The quote was a little higher than others, but was more thorough. They did not really explain that we would have to remove the washer, dryer, and bathroom (shower, toilet, vanity) for them to install the drain tile, then replace them all. We decided it was just too expensive and had the cracks sealed instead. So far no leaking, but our fingers are crossed for spring.

How did it go? In less than 8 months, the basement flooded with over three feet of water. I have it on a disc. All furniture in the basement had to be tossed. Tables, chairs, display unit, holiday decorations, tool cabinets and tools, etc destroyed. The furnace ( not even a year old) had to be replaced along with the water heater, the air purifier, etc. An electrician came to evaluate the damage and repair the electrical panel which also shorted out my microwave, etc. Several rooms had no electricity at all. He told me Perma Seal had hooked up the back up pump to the same breaker the main pump was on, and worse, they had put the check valve in upside down (or backwards) thereby my main pump was overworked trying to pump water out that was being forced back in. Main pump overheated with the work and the circuit was fried which obviously made the "state of art" back up pump worthless. I contacted Perma Seal and was told I WAS THE ONE WHO PUT THE CHECK VALVE IN BACKWARDS. (I didn't even know what a check valve was until the electrician explained it to me!) I was also told "we do not carry insurance to cover such a thing. We don't have the need for an insurance carrier." I have informed them on several occasions that I have yet to rate their company on Angies List. Each time I told them that they told me that someone will be contacting me. And they did, always arguing that it was my fault. Over two years and I am still waiting. I am 75+ years old and had to spend all of my savings to replace the furnace, water heater, air purifier etc. The electrician alone charged me $4,000. Without reserves I have to put my home of 38+ years on the market . My only consolation is that when my home sells, I will be able to afford an attorney to sue them.
Description of Work: They were hired to fix a crack in the basement. During the repair, they convinced me that I need their "state of the art" back up pump. I explained that the one I had not had a problem. They told me how mine could fail and that I really needed their state of the art pump wherein I would never have to worry about water in my basement if the main pump failed. I finally had them put their pump in. Two of their crew came on a subsequent day.

Actually, it went surprising well. Mike Tieggs was my rep. He was very patient in explaining everything to me, and reassuring. Roberto (the foreman) was wonderful! He explained everything that they were going to do. The surprising part was there was very little mess. I expected it to me much worse. Their workmanship was A+. I would highly recommend them, if you have seepage problems. Of course the real test will be when it rains.

It went horribly. The job was not completed. The customer service department was rude and unwilling to assist. As a result, we still have seepage. We spent $1200.00 on repairs that did not work. We spent over $500 to have the basement drywalled again and the carpet repaired. That now is torn up again. The problem is now bigger than it was to begin with. We now have a torn up wall and carpeting along with continued seepage. We could not be more dissatisfied or surprised at the total failure of such a well known company.
Description of Work: They were supposed to identify sources of seepage in our basement and properly seal accordingly. $1200.00 plus later after they completed the job, the basement still leaks. The job was supposedly under warrantee so they then came back to fix it again. We had to re-tear down the drywall and carpeting we had just re-installed. They did not complete the job still. The workers left after a few hours saying they did not have enough materials to finish the job. They left our basement a mess with water STILL seeping. We now have an exposed wall with a toxic chemical smell and a job not done. The customer service person was unhelpful and quite frankly unprofessional. We will be contacting US Waterproofing instead.

While messy, the job could not have gone better. Perma-seal did a fantastic job. My only complaint is that the job was messy, though no fault of Perma-seal. They did their best to contain the dust. What do you expect, they are jackhammer concrete? The sales rep was knowledgeable and not pushy as all. We called Perma-Seal out on a warranty related issue. They fixed on the spot no questions asked. The job was done complete quickly and no questions asked. No hassle at all. Last week, 12/15/2013, I called Perma-Seal out to inspect a crack in my foundation block wall. They were honest and said the crack is of no concern. Other companies would have pushed work that was not needed in order to make a buck. Perma-Seal simply does not operate that way. I've recommended Perma-Seal to others and they too have had great results. This is a very reputable company, and I would not use anyone else to do foundation/ waterproofing work.

Water seepage in basement area, due to moderate/heavy rainfall. Perma-Seal was the first company notified (out of three), but due to "backlog" wasn't able to have estimate until LATE summer. Don Baier was my Sales Consultant, who was very professional, asking questions regarding water seepage, examining the interior of basement area and exterior of the resident, where he noticed two (2) large foundation cracks in the area where water was seeping. Don explained the procedure thoroughly and answered many questions. Don also stated that the earliest date for work would be the last week in October or early November, due to workload/schedule. Within that week the decision was Perma-Seal. On the day of the job the workers arrived "promptly" (7:47), ESCATIC! was the word. Arturo and his assistance inspected area of work, along with myself. At approximately 8:10 they began work and completed by 10:10 a.m. While they were working I watched, inspected and asked questions. Arturo and company were professional, had a "sense of humor," and didn't mine my "question asking." When they completed the job the area was left neat and tidy. UPDATE: 2014 Rain/Spring season
Description of Work: EXTERIOR WORK: Had two (2) large exterior foundation cracks. Hand dug 4-1/2 feet, where mortar and sheeting was use to repair both the cracks.
