Perma-Seal Basement Systems

Joe Pav came to estimate what it would take and cost to put an egress window in our basement. He and the team spent a lot of time checking the plat of survey, the basement rooms, the electrical system and the outside to design the most economical solution. Their knowledge of the building codes in Evanston helped insure that the job would be up to code. The videos and other support material Joe should helped explain everything. We put down a deposit and the work will get done soon.

The workers were very professional and very customer oriented. They truly wanted to make sure we were happy. They did a great job explaining everything they did. The proof of quality will be when we don't get any water in the basement after a big storm. Since they offer a warranty for the life of the house I'm not too worried about that.

Horrible company. Won’t refund $600 deposit during this coronavirus pandemic. That’s no way to do business. We don’t want you to do $600 worth of work-seriously is that like fixing a 6 inch crack? And, I’m sorry but we had no control of the pandemic and job loss. $600 sure could buy food for the kids but no- you won’t refund deposit. KARMA

Haven’t had the work performed yet, but I’m a returning Perma Seal customer (3x). My experience with the company has been nothing short of spectacular. Brian S., our salesman, was prompt, courteous, & professional throughout the evaluation of our home... Not at all pushy, which we appreciated.

Duane was very professional and answered all of our questions. He was very helpful during the entire process and we have had a positive experience with him in the past as well.

The process from consultation, to getting a quote, scheduling and then doing the work was very smooth. I felt like Jason listened and provide good advice. The work was completed quickly and with good quality.

Dan arrived promptly at the scheduled time and took care of the inspection maintenance work on my systems. He answered all of my questions and made helpful recommendations on preventative measures to consider and left me with his contact information for future assistance.

Several years ago we had Perma-Seal install their Ultra Sump III backup sump pump system at our daughter's home. Over this last weekend, during the heavy rains in the Chicago area, the system failed. Unfortunately for us, that was three years and 9 days from the original installation date, just beyond the 3yr. warranty period. And Perma-Seal was emphatic about strictly adhering to the warranty period. Their service tech discovered that both our main pump and back-up sump pumps were bad and told me that our only option would be to purchase an entirely new and even more expensive system than the one we had. They wouldn't even just replace the failed primary and backup pumps for a charge. I was told those specific pumps could only be replaced if the system was still under warranty. A nice catch-22 for us and windfall for them! With no sump pump protection for two days while we arranged and waited for our service appointment, we didn't have much of a choice but to agree to buy their new Defender system for $2,400. After I asked the technician to check back with his office to see if they would make an exception on the warranty, or offer a goodwill discount on the new system, they finally came back with an offer of a 10% discount. I later discovered that was their standard promotional offer they have running for January. I just have to wonder if I even would have been offered that discount if I hadn't questioned the warranty. Needless to say I am not happy at all with my Perma-Seal experience. I do realize they are technically within their rights on the warranty period. But, not allowing me to just pay to replace the bad pumps versus having to buy a whole new system just 9 days over my warranty period ended just added insult to injury. For a company that brags about their customer service I experienced little evidence to support their claim. After making my feelings known directly to Perma-Seal on their website, I did receive a call from their service manager, James Burlison. Unfortunately, it was really just to restate their strict policy on their warranty and defend why they wouldn't just sell and install replacement pumps versus pushing their entirely new proprietary system. We concluded the call with me telling him that I thought Perma-Seal's policies still seemed unfair to me and that I felt compelled to share my thoughts through on-line reviews to let others know what to expect if they found themselves in similar circumstances. Shortly thereafter I received a callback from James with an offer to refund me 5% of my cost (a little more than $100) and not much goodwill in my opinion. However, the catch even with that token offer, seemed to be for me to agree not to post any negative reviews. Needless to say I did not accept that offer.

Poor customer service. We have used perma-seal on multiple occasions and their work has been great. This past weekend our backup sump pump blew and that lead to the backup battery system breaking which caused our basement to flood. Now we understand the warranty may be up but the one time we needed it, it craps out and causes a chain reaction disaster. The disappointing part is that when we call to have someone come out and look at it we are told we have to pay for them to come out unless we commit to buying from them ahead of time. If they take pride in their products you would think they would offer to come out and see what happened.

When Dan called to confirm appt we were able to troubleshoot the issue with the pump. Cancelled the appointment. He was very professional, helpful and patient and saved me some money.

They were quick to give an estimate, but once they had my deposit it took 7 weeks to have the repair done. The workers they sent were careless and sloppy. They left empty tubes in my laundry room and accidentally unplugged my dishwasher in my crawl space. I ended up buying a new dishwasher when the only thing wrong was that they had unplugged it. When I called Perma Seal to complain they said they were not responsible for the carelessness of their employees. I would never recommend them. I tried to make a 1 star review on their website and it just came up as an error. I think that is how they keep a 5 star review.

The electrician from PermaSeal, John Walker did a great job. He was able to re-wire some breakers so that I did not need a new panel. Work was done fast and very professional. The charge was reasonable. John definitely knows what he is doing.

I very rarely write a bad review but there was just too much that went wrong with my experience with Permaseal. Let me just say that the workers that came out and did the actual work were great. The were professional and courteous, no complaints there. I wish I could say the same about their management team. I got involved with this project in an effort to help my mom who's older and spanish speaking and I didn't want her to be taken advantage of. My first mistake was assuming that I can trust the individuals from this company whom I thought had a solid reputation in this kind of work. I met with Peter F. who did the initial inspection of my mom's basement while I was in town visiting her (I live in NC). To make this long story short, what he verbally explained to us what the end product was going look like didn't end up happening. He also assured us that we would be able to take advantage of their financing option which turned out wasn't true either. This is where I make my second mistake, I didn't make sure that they included what was verbally agreed upon in their proposal. I'll own up to that. In the end, they rescheduled my moms project multiple times without calling and asking her or myself first to see if that was ok. Apparently they must feel like people can just call off work with no problem.The end product did not look like what their sales person said it would look like. But the worst part of my experience was dealing with their managers in particular Mike T. I tried MULTIPLE times to reason with him and try to help him understand that what we got was not what was explained to us by their employee during the initial inspection and the only thing that he would refer back to is that the proposal stated that we would get product A and product B. My argument was that we've never physically seen product A but that it looked nothing like what his sales person said it would look like. So there was an obvious miscommunication between their sales person and us but he refused to accept that his employee could make such a mistake. He was unapologetic that there was a mix up and I often felt like he assumed that I was trying to pull a fast one on their company even after I told him that we didn't want that product and that they can just take it back. Eventually, after much pleading and waiting for over a week to hear back from him he agreed to remove and credit us half of product A. I'm still waiting for him to get back to me on a date of when they're going to take half of product A off. The job was "completed" last week Friday and they were very quick to call and ask for the remaining balance but I told them that we would pay for it as soon as I received an invoice that itemized all the charges, credits and deposits that were made since the project started. They emailed me the same day with an invoice that was generalized so I replied and asked for invoice that was specific line by line. They replied back with another invoice that still wasn't what I asked for. Before I got a chance to reply back they called my mom and collected from her instead. To me, that's shameless. I'm a manger myself and I would NEVER treat a customer the way that they treated us. I will NEVER use this company again nor will I ever recommend that anyone use this company.

I wasn’t sure what was causing the water in my basement. We have a finished basement and feared the worst. As it turned out we only needed to replace a pump. Don G was outstanding. Prompt, trustworthy, knowledgeable, and looked out for my best interest.

Today I completed a project with Permaseal who assigned Josue (lead), Perfecto, Saul, and Muñoz. This entire team was extremely professional, knowledgeable and reassuring at all times. They showed up on time, kept a clean work space, and simply provided excellent customer service. I received 14 geo anchor locks for my basement as well as a drain tile system. Everything was approved by the village and my overall experience was seamless.
