The Davey Tree Expert Company

Dave, our "guy," is very nice but when I got this year's bill, I realized that under Davey's care we have lost 4 trees - two of which were quite valuable. We alerted Davey to issues with two birches, but he never really mounted the energy to deal with the situation. So much for two birches. Their real negligence, and frankly I should go after them, had to do with two very large spruce trees. We had to cut down both of them, leaving a huge hole in our yard, due to a treatable fungus that wore at our trees over a couple of years. Do you think we heard about this from Davey? Negative, it was from the guys who had to cut them down. Funnier still, we had brought this to Dave's attention on a walk-around and although I see the bill, there was no follow-up to make sure things had gotten better. It makes me angry just to report this - their lapse is costing me about $5000 in removing/replanting trees just on the spruces. Stay away.

I would use their services again in the future.

They were wonderful, but they were expensive. They referred me to someone, but they were not good. They came in someday literally drove off the street in the area in between my house and my neighbor’s house and into my front yard over my hedges destroying them. They then removed the hedges, mulched it and went in and turned it all up. They were so sweet, that they advised me to call someone else much cheaper, if I wanted to put the stuff in. I called the other company, but I wouldn’t recommend them. The person was so nice, personable and honest. They did a great job, were very fast and wonderful. I am going to have another tree replaced and will be calling them for it and willing to spend the money for it. The price was reasonable for the work they do and brought in heavy equipment to tear up. They were great just that they were a little expensive. I will use them again in the future.

Heard a lot of great things about these folks. Came about about a week later after I contacted them for just the tree, but made some excellent observations and recommendations on pruning the beautiful pin oak we have on our property. They then presented us with a formal proposal about a week later for which we moved forward with. The showed up a week later with their crew exactly on time, went over what they were going to do again and then went immediately to work. The guys worked hard and put in a full day's work - crew of three - and did a fantastic job on the tree removal as well as the pruning. They even called a few days later to ensure we were satisfied and if we had any remaining questions - a really nice professional touch. The even made some suggestions on what to replace the tree we removed as well as where to get such plants. Nice to have an arborist that knows what works and wouldn't work for the area, soil and shade. Would recommend them to anybody

Work performed was very professional. We have contracted them to continue semi-anual spraying of trees to prevent another infestation.

They were really good. They did come as far south as Mokena. We had a few problems in terms of followup because of all the rain. But, they were certainly high quality. They know their stuff.

Arborist met with us to discuss issues, propose work and prepare estimate. Promptly submitted estimate for work. Workers came out to do work timely and well. Would highly recommend this service to others.

I liked them because they were on Angie's List. They were good. They came on time. They did their work and they left.

They did a great job. Cleaned up all of the debris and the tree looks better than it ever has.

David Glasnovich came out twice to go over the tree project & gave me estimates. He was on time, and very professional. His estimate for the work came in less than the other two estimates I received from other companies. I have used Davey in the past for a previous tree removal project, and because of the great experience, suggested that my condo association choose Davey again. Bob and his two crewmen arrived right on time, and were very pleasant. I went over the trimming & removal with them before David got there (he was stuck in traffic) and the crew got right to work. David checked in with me when he arrived, and then left to visit other locations. The crew worked quickly and efficiently, each man working on a tree. I was expecting them to be there all day, but they finished in about 3.5 hours, including clean-up (which looked like they were never there - awesome!). Overall my experience was fantastic and I will hire Davey again!

Overall it was an expensive bad experience. 750.00 a year for nothing.

They don't try to sell us extra stuff. They are good with scheduling appointments, always show up when they say they will and on time. Their staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

I called for an estimate and was given a higher quote in early October. When I said I could be flexible in timing, the representative said he could give a lower quote if I could wait until later in the season. I agreed and actually was expecting early December. I received a written quote in the mail for $675 which seemed reasonable, particularly because of the size of the silver maple (requiring a truck lift), the Elm, and the Honeylocust. I signed it and returned it in the mail. When I came home from work on 11/1, the work was done, and the trees looked great. My only regret was I had not known they were coming that day. Two large branches had broken from the Silver Maple earlier in the season, and I had pulled them to the side of the house with the thought that I would pull them out and Davey's could take them away when they pruned the rest of the tree. Since I didn't know they were coming that day, I missed my opportunity and had to dispose of them myself. We have used this Davey's location to prune these and other trees, and to remove a few dead trees three or 4 times over the last 14 years. The last time I obtained multiple estimates (the service trip prior to this one), the Davey quote was almost three hundred dollars less. To my knowledge, there is no Angie's List discount, (I'm not sure I even mentioned it), but they have always done a great job, and we have avoided much of the wind damage to our trees that has occurred around our neighborhood.

I had an ornamental tree that I needed shaped because it was blocking the front of my house. The crew came out and I wasn't satisfied with the trimming of the tree. I called the arborist and he came out and I described what I wanted. He sent another crew and they butchered the job. If you are looking for bulk trimming, this company is okay, but any finer trimming would be better off with another company

Travis came out to inspect our browning trees. He was prompt, professional, and so full of helpful knowledge. This guy blew me away with how much he knew. Two other guys that came out could not identify what was going on. He gave a ton of suggestions for my yard. It ended up I did the work myself but if I ever needed professional service I would use these guys even if the were a few bucks more.

The crew was very professional and knowledgeable. I really liked the suggestions that they offered. They are a little bit pricey but the quality of work will make up for that. I would use this company again in the future.

The project went well. They were delayed getting out to our house due to the very bad storms in the area around that time, but when they were able to start the work they did a great job. The team did exactly what the arborist said they would do. They were very respectful of our property and made sure that all the debris was picked up before they left. Had I not seen the trees trimmed I would never have known there was any work done, that is how well they cleaned up. I would definitely use this company again.

I sent them an email through the Angie's List website and they responded right away. Three days later Travis, the arborist, came out to give me a quote. He emailed me the quote the next day. Within a week I decided to proceed with the project and let him know. Unfortunately, by the time I had agreed the Chicago area was hit, repeatedly, with major thunderstorms. They had a lot of emergency work to do and my job was scheduled for about 4 weeks later. I understood their situation so I just waited. The guys came out on the day they told me they would. They did all of the trimming and tree removal. As they were finishing up I had to leave my house so I couldn't take a good look at their work. Later on I noticed that they didn't trim an area near the fence that I had told Travis I needed done. I contacted Travis, he apologized, and came out within a few days to trim it himself. I was satisfied with the work.

The Care of Trees came out and provided a quote first. I thought the quote was reasonable based on the size of the tree. Once the quote was provided I paid and asked to move forward. It took some time to get the crew back to my house. Due to storms in other areas, the Care of Trees provides services to many villages and communities which made my job a second priority. This is understandable as these storms were critical in nature.

They are very careful. The tree was near power line and also right at my neighbor’s fence line where they have a nice fence. They were very careful and didn’t damage any of the power lines, didn’t damage any of my garden plants in that area or did they damage the neighbor’s property. They come once a year to inspect the trees and if I have any questions then they would answer all my questions and suggest options with regard to those items. The gentleman who comes to do the work is a certified arborist which makes me more confident. I like their diagnoses of trees and things like that. I have large trees which are in sailing health but they come out every year and they inspect it and makes sure that it is structural sound and doesn’t danger property or people. They continue to let it stand and these are the things that I like about their service. I think there will be people who do the same work much cheaper but I think that the knowledge that they have and the quality of work they do is worth extra money.

They did a great job. They got the work done beautiful. They are right on the top. I have recommended them to my neighbors.

I had an issue with a tree and the arborist was out in a day. I expected to pay for that but because I was on the service plan there was no extra charges. They are highly professional, reliable and because they specialize in woody plants I trust their judgment.

This was a great experience from the initial estimate through completion of the work. They were punctual, polite and did an excellent job. I plan to use them again.
