I thought the price was reasonable considering all the work that was done. They are very professional, it is a husband and wife and they seemed very knowledgeable. When they said they would show up they showed up, they talked to me and made sure everything was to my liking. I didn't feel like I had to worry and it was a very pleasureable experience, the way you would hope all experiences with people would be.

I met the owner to review my yard and discuss the service I wanted. He was very professional and provided a detailed estimate. As my service has been ongoing this season I have had great prompt and accurate communication with Lea in the office both by phone ane e-mail as needed. Re-digging the bed edges was very well done and the weekly mowing and trimming has been great. I will probably expand the services I use them for in the future.
Description of Work: I have been using this service to mow and edge my lawn weekly this year. I also had them re-dig the bed edges to help prevent grass intrudion into the beds (several hours of labor.)

Overall the work performed by Pacocha was fabulous! We have had several heavy rains since the work was done, and we have not had any more water in our basement. The plants and the grass in our front yard look great. Joe Pacocha is very accommodating and easy to work with. This is an outstanding company to hire. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: During a heavy rainstorm, the rain water would accumulate between our house and our neighbor's house causing a flood in our basement. Pacocha installed drainage to alleviate the flooding. There would also be a lot of standing water in the front yard. Pacocha also improved the drainage in this area. Pacocha re-graded the front yard which involved removing established plants and grass. After the work was completed, the plants were re-planted and new grass was planted.

We used a service last year that was not dependable. I started to go with the same service this year and immediately had problems so I checked with Angie's List and found how highly rated Pocacha's was so I called them, fully expecting to be told that they could not fit us in. Not only did they fit us in, but they got us a quote and started almost immediately. One of the things I like the best is that there is someone there always answering the phone for questions or if you want a quote on something. They are very professional. Our previous service would spend about 2 minutes on our yard, which is not the case with Pocacha. One last thing, we have dogs so it is important for them to close the back gate when they are done, and so far they always have.
Description of Work: Weekly yard mowing and yard work. I have to say I am not sure exactly what all they do every week, but after they are done, the yard looks absolutely beautiful .

I've used Pacocha Landscaping for a few years now, and this is the biggest job I've given them. Not only did they do everything perfectly (no "oops, we didn't think of that" moments), but they alway leave the job site looking tidy and neat. This time, I designed the beds and bought my own plant material from a nursery. But the best part of all was as we were setting out the shrubbery, some of the things didn't look as good in real life as they did on my drawing. Joe is quite knowledgeable and used his years of experience to help me redesign things on the fly, and added some ideas I never would have thought of. The final result looks lovely.
Description of Work: Joe and his crew pulled out all existing material from the front of my house, including some very old and deeply rooted shrubs and small trees. Then they installed new material -- shrubs and a small tree -- plus added top soil and amending it as needed. The job also required cutting out some new areas of in the existing bed and moving some stones around to a new design.

(04/27/2010) It didn?t go at all. I would never call them again. UPDATE (05/12/2010) I have just read a response to my initial report of this company. As nice as it may seem that they responded to my issue, which they did, and if they have been in business as long as they advertise, why wouldn?t something like the problem which my complaint brought to the surface had been in place from the very beginning?
Description of Work: (04/27/2010) I called Pacocha to get an estimate on some work done in the front of my home. They did actually respond quickly and wanted to make an appt to come out. Unfortunately they were pretty booked which Lea could sense in my voice. She suggested that if that had some free time they would call and see if I was home and come out then which I was happy with. Evidently they called and I was not home so she called my cell phone. I told her I was not at home at that time and could we try another day. She then asked me if I was at home which I found completely out of context and told her I was at my sisters although I felt it was none of her business. She said she would call back. Well that was over 2 weeks ago and I have received nothing from them. I don't feel they handled this professionally at all and must be doing a great business as they do not have time to phone prospective customers. I have since hired someone new who called me immediately and met with me to discuss my yard. I would never call Pacocha again or ever recommend them to anyone. Very very unprofessional in my book.

Response from Pacocha Landscaping Services Inc
We appreciate the effort to write this assessment of our company’s appointment/scheduling process. We are sorry for taking your time in regard to this matter and wish we could have earned the opportunity to provide landscape related services at your residence. I agree with your appointment/scheduling process evaluation and accept full responsibility for this “negative grade”. As a matter of fact, you have managed to single handedly induce a “new and improved” scheduling process within our company. Thank you! This new appointment and communication system will be sure to improve our contractor/potential client scheduling process. This new process will be entirely based on prompt communication (as currently performed), but with the addition of setting a definite date to meet (when client requests such). Even though we agreed to call ahead before stopping by (in your case without a scheduled appointment) which we did, but you were not available, a definite date was never set for our next possible opportunity to meet. There is the issue. Again, this is our fault for not insisting on setting the next appointment with you while on the phone. As time would have it, even though we have been in business for 17 years (since 1993), this type of scheduling concern has never surfaced until now. This is precisely why Angie’s List is so effective for both the client and the service provider. The opportunities to learn and improve are now available 24/7 with the help of web sites like this. Thank you Angie’s List! To review and summarize, this request for proposal began on Friday April 9, 2010 at 3:31pm. where the potential client requested “a price quote on some cleanup efforts and also some other work” via our website email link. We quickly replied via email the very next morning Saturday April 10, 2010 at 8:17am (less than 24 hours). We provided information to inform this potential client that we would be happy to come out and give a quote on her potential lawn/landscape needs- as requested. We made it very clear in our email that we schedule all appointments Monday through Friday. The potential client responded via email in less than 1 hour that Saturday morning. Since an on-site meeting would be needed (per her request) she replied that Tuesday would be great for her, but to please call her cell to confirm the time and so she could provide her address, etc. Lea called to inform the potential client that Tuesday (3 days later - April 13th.) was already taken and asked if we could schedule another date. For some reason no date was set. We left this future appointment “open ended” and to be dealt with when we were “in the area”. Even though we did call once (not twice) when we “were in the area”(less than 7 days later) and the potential client could not make it, we were still entirely at fault for not setting a firm appointment date to benchmark our level of responsiveness. Thank you for the positive lesson learned!

Pacocha Landscaping did a great job and they were very easy to work with on the phone and by e-mail. I hired them to remove some late-falling leaves and do a final mowing. I requested that they also remove quite a few leaves from the bottom of the basement stairwell. They did this perfectly and also removed a line of old birch debris from the edge of the driveway. The driveway has never looked so good! Communication on site was great. They removed the top growth from some perennials and did not disturb those that I wanted to keep for winter interest. I could not be more pleased.

I became a customer mid-season starting with plant bed maintenance and redefining of existing beds. As the season progressed, small and large hardscape projects were added using my materials and design plans. Their staff accepted the hardscape challenges and enjoyed using their creative touches. To end the season they did a very nice job removing the thick blanket of leaves to make room for a new blanket...of snow! I am pleasantly satisfied with their work and scheduling. Joe was upfront about possible irregular appointments being an 'as needed' client but so far the appointments have been surprisingly regular--barring bad weather. I chose this contractor because they presented a sincere, personal interest in what services they could provide a do-it-yourself homeowner. I plan to continue with them next season.
Description of Work: Services were performed on an 'as needed' basis: Plant bed maintenance, redefined bed edges, installed small and large hardscape designs, fall leaves clean up.

This company clearly has more business than they can handle. After accepting their bid we were excited about doing business with them and planned to have them do more elaborate landscaping work. After the first cutting they informed us that they made an errror in estimating the size of the fence opening to the backyard and related some equipment issue as a result. This is a standard fence, nothing unusual. Their first comment was to invite us to get out of the contract. When we did not our service went from Friday to Saturday to late Saturday and then Sunday and now totally missed the week. Again in discussions they suggested we could get a refund and leave. Bottom line is that they make the mistake, admirably agree to live with their bid but in a passive/ aggressive manner try to force us out in the middle/ end of the season by deteriorating service. By the way after one season the lawn is the worst it has ever looked we've got more weeds and now clover is popping up.

Response from Pacocha Landscaping Services Inc
Dear Angie's List, Please change my grade for this particular report/client to an F for FAILURE. This D left for my company is meaningless. We have let Angie's List and our valued clients down by allowing this client to gain access to our time, resources and now reputation. We take full responsibility for our actions and would repeat them in a second if given the chance. My company began our relationship with this particular Angie's List referral on a summer day earlier this year in June. After meeting at the gentleman's Arlington Heights property, I asked the prospective client why he needed to hire me mid-season. After all the lawn looked as if it was just mowed professionally. He replied that this seasons new landscaper made a critical error which translated into his termination(mid-season contract termination? I'm not sure). I asked what the problem was. The prospective client replied that the previous "landscaper" was mowing his lawn (back yard in particular) when it was still wet and or had standing water. This had caused damage and was not acceptable. I agreed that this was a problem and had asked if he told the lawn cutter at the time about this. He said that they were warned many times, but never made the necessary adjustments. The prospective client informed me that they had enough and were ready to find a new, more understanding company to fill their specific needs. He then went on to speak of an outbreak of weeds that were untreated and had asked if I could help. I said certainly! Our company proposal was sent via standard mail to this prospective client a short time after and included a weekly lawn mowing price of $25.00 per week. This mowing service was to be performed from mid-June until the end of September 2009. The client authorized to start weekly lawn maintenance services and also contracted me to perform 4 lawn fertilization and weed control applications. So we began our client/contractor relationship. On our first visit to mow their lawn on 6/12/09, my men made me aware of a small issue. The clients rear gate was less than 35 inches wide which only meant that our 36" wide mower would not fit in the yard. I made the false assumption that a 36" mower would pass through. Anyway, we mowed the yard with a smaller 21" mower. I proactively contacted the client via email on June 16, 2009 to find out if he liked the quality of our work? The client replied that the work was "ok" and that we should have blown out and cleaned up his patio flower garden also. I noted the issue, talked with my men and later emailed the client again on June 16, 2009 and asked if the quality of my service will be acceptable to continue even though we are using a smaller push mower in his back yard? The client responded by saying "it sounds like you want off the business so I'd appreciate it if you can keep it up while I hunt for another contractor". Now again, I was only making him aware of a particular piece of equipment being utilized due to the error I made when assuming his gate was greater than 36" wide. On June 17th. I emailed again only to make the client aware that because of the narrow back yard gate, next seasons price(2010) would go from $25.00 per week to $35.00 due to the additional labor needed. The point behind my communication was to make the client aware of this anticipated 2010 price increase. I wanted the client to have the proper information so they can make the right long term decision for them. So we continued on. The end of September came and our contract for weekly lawn maintenance expired. Our standard practice is to offer a fall clean up proposal to all clients that had not arranged for it previously. Our office sent the proposal to the client and it included service for the months of October and November. We proposed 8 fall clean up visits to include all labor and disposal fees for a total of $400.00. After two visits, all is well. Now the rain moves in and this is a problem for the client. It seems that this particular client feels that weather should not affect the timing of their service. Last week we had 2 days of rain which moved our routing forward accordingly. The client found this unacceptable! Since we knew our company could not satisfy them based on their negative oral phone replies and unfair demands, we provided our professional resignation via email and offered the last 3 weeks of completed service at no charge. This client cannot be satisfied!

Joe Pacocha met with us late summer of 2008. We told him of our concerns. He studied our landscape and returned with recommendations as to its care. We hired his company to handle the fall cleanup and were extremely pleased with the work done and the professionalism of his staff. They were not only courteous but worked quickly, efficiently and thoroughly. Early spring 2009 his crew began the lawn rebuilding and repair. We couldn't believe what he was able to accomplish in one season. It will take more than a season or two for the lawn to reach Joe's expectations but we are more than willing to follow his advice. Joe takes his business very seriously and we are so very glad we saw his listing on Angie's List. We recommend his services to anyone who has ever despaired about getting grass to grow in the shade. We have used commercial lawn care companies for a number of years but this is the first year we have had a noticeable improvement to the yard.
Description of Work: We started using Pacocha Landscaping for fall cleanup 2008 and will continue with this service. In early spring 2009 they began with spring cleanup; core aerification, slit-seeding and granular seed-starter fertilizer application. Continuing through summer and fall with additional lawn care applications, wood mulching plus additional lawn repair. We will also use them for fall leaf cleanup and gutter cleaning. We anticipate being customers for a long time.

Initially Joe (owner) came out to give a quote on trimming and ideas for some new landscaping. Decided to have the trimming done and change from black edging to spade edge which looks very nice. Manuel and Leo are coming out this week to build up back corner of property and mulch the permimeter of the back yard. Everyone is very professional and a joy to deal with. Lea (Joe's wife) is very pleasant to work with in scheduling appointments (she even scheduled first appointment so I didn't have to take time off from work).

Our brand new Toro lawn mower broke, and we were to have company over for an outdoor event. The grass was probably at least 6-8 inches deep and already seeding. I contacted this company and spoke with Lea directly. She was kind and unerstanding of our situation. We NEEDED service at the last moment that week. We were in a "pickle". She was honest and could not promise service so quickly due to poor weather that week and an already full schedule. Other companies that we tried offered no chance of service. However, Lea came through and was able to send a crew over in days. The lawn looked great and in just a nick of time. Our family certainly appreciates Lea's effort and the competence of the ground crew. I'm all ready tired of unrelaible lawn equipment and would recommend this service on a regular basis to anyone who was interested.

I needed Spring Cleanup and it was the end of May. I found this landscaping company on Angie's list. I've use other companies before. However, none really wanted to come out just to do Spring/Fall cleanup. Lea Pacocha called me as soon as I left an email msg. She was great, very friendly and ready to find out what I needed. Joe, her husband, came out and we went over what I wanted done. From 5-14, when I initiated this contact to 5-29 when the services completed, my husband and I were astonished as how quickly everything was done. Their crew worked hard. The front and back yards look great. This was money well spent.

Joe's communications were excellent. Because of the rainy weather, I had some very soggy, wet areas in the lawn, and we postponed the job until we felt the lawn could handle his equipment. When we finally decided to go ahead, Joe's people showed up when he said they would, no surprises. They were courteous, diligent, did a terrific job, and were neat as pins. The cleanup was outstanding. The lawn and beds have never looked better.

Joe came to the house to do a walk through of the work to be done and provided a quote soon after. His men came out for a full day to do the work and re-checked what they were planning to do, with my wife, who was home at the time. They did a terrific job, and managed to not weed out the plants we wanted to keep (in among all the weeds). The trimming, pruning and edging was also really well done, including trimming a big overgrown yew bush.
Description of Work: Due to home renovations, I hadn't done any yard work (except mowing) on my regular Glenview suburban lot in about three months, and since we had a lot of rain in those months, the yard was very overgrown. Pacocha came out to weed, prune, edge, and generally clean up.

Despite the fact that I was not a "regular" customer, and this was their very busy season, the company was very accommodating in scheduling me for a free estimate. I met Joe, the owner, at the property and told him I needed a spring clean up and needed curb appeal to put the home on the market. He was very knowledgeable and helpful in advising me where to put my landscape dollars and where not to waste my $$. His bid was very specific and thorough and right in line with other bids. My calls and/or emails were always promptly returned. His crew showed up on time and finished the job in one day. They did an excellent job. His wife Lea, works the office and they are both very customer oriented and friendly. A pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Did a major spring clean-up of front, back and side yards: cleaned, weeded, edged all beds, and trimmed all trees and shrubs, removed some unhealthy shrubs, removed some rock mulch, and laid about 4 yards of natural mulch throughout the beds. Cleaned up and removed all debris, and finished up the job with a mowing.

Everything went well. Communication with Joe throughout the whole process of figuring out what we wanted to do was excellent. He answered my emails promptly and with very detailed information on how we can contribute to our lawn health. Getting the work scheduled went well - he gave us a week during which he thought he could get the work done, and then fit us in during that week. We like to do our own lawn mowing and fertilizing, but we'll definitely use them for our spring cleanup again! We'll see how the lawn renovation works this spring as far as whether we'd use those services again.
Description of Work: 1). Spring Clean Up: Includes raking of all lawn areas, blowing out all planting beds, spade edge plant beds to re-define lawn/bed separation, cultivate mulch/soil beds, edge all walks/drives, mow lawn and remove/dispose of all waste. Turf renovation services included: Power rake/"dethatch" all lawn areas, perform core aeration, apply seed starter fertilizer and mechanically slit seed all lawn areas. Added 1 + of top soil to assist the seed germination process.

Wonderful company to work with. First, I was able to do the entire estimating process via e-mail, which I think more companies should do. I e-mailed them my request for estimate, they responded promptly that they would come out and look around, and I had an estimate back via e-mail in 2 days. I booked them via e-mail, and Joe responded with acceptance and scheduled date. Joe's team arrived on time and did a really nice job with the work. The cleanup was thorough without damaging any of my emerging plants; the edging was complete; and they did a great job of taking out the overgrown lilac and all its attendant offshoots; the area was a real eyesore. But you'd never know anything was there, and nothing else in the garden or lawn around the area was damaged. I've searched for years, literally, for a dependable landscaping company at an affordable price. At last, I seem to have found one.
Description of Work: Spring cleanup and edging, and removal of an overgrown lilac bush (with numerous suckers).

My lawn was ugly and full of weeds. I saw this company servicing a neighbor's lawn and called the number. A polite lady answered the phone and assured me that an estimator would come out at my convenience. Within a day, Joe came and explained the services that his company offers and made recommendations for my property. Two days later, I had a written bid in the mail. I simply signed and returned it, and no further action was necessary on my part. They even leave watering instructions with each application. The weeds didn't go away instantly, of course, but by the second season my lawn was looking very nice. I rest easy knowing that these folks are licensed to do this type of work. They know what they are doing.
Description of Work: Pacocha Landscaping Services, Inc. has been responsible for my lawn care (fertilizing and weed control) for several years. They provide 5 treatments per year for $200. My lawn has never looked better. The customer service is superb. I am contracting with them for more services in the coming years.
