Benito and Pascual work tirelessly and definitely show clients that their #1 priority is making sure that everyone is more than pleased with the outcome of any project. They have brought on 2 other professionals, Dean and Bob, both of which bring additional years of expertise to the business. Their prices are exceptionally reasonable, the trees and plantings are always beautiful specimens and the crews are friendly and respectful of homowners. I highly, highly, highly recommend them. In the four years that I have worked with Benito's Landscaping, both in my role as a Homeowners Association Board Member and as a homeowner, I cannot say enough about them. They are fantastic, both as a company and as individuals.
Description of Work: I have worked with Benito's Landscaping for almost 4 years now. I first hired them to complete a backyard planter bed installation. It connected to an existing paver brick patio and they were able to incorporate the planter bed to flow naturally from the patio. They suggested great plants and their price was quite reasonable. Very happy with the work done. My next experience with this company was as the Landscape Vice President for a townhome development in Darien. Numerous homeowners had already hired Benito to install or repair paver brick patios and the buzz around the neighborhood was positive and overwhelming. As we were having significant problems with the current landscaping firm, we asked Benito to bid on the annual contract. The price was definitely less than the current contract. They were unanimously awarded the annual contract for 3 years. This is the 3rd year of the contract and the homeowners association board is still quite happy with their work. They do the weekly lawn maintenance, as well as planting new shrubs and trees, lawn fertilization, core aeration, mulch, pesticide application as well as general on-call landscape maintenance. They also do a fantastic job with the snow removal. They are on site as soon as there is 2 inches of snow, as specified per the contract, and the crew is diligent, hardworking and thorough. They come back if there is more snow, salt the walkways, driveways and parking lots. They truly work above and beyond the contract requirements. Their contract has been renewed again this year for the 3rd year as well. My most recent experience with Benito's Landscaping is with our new construction project in Elmhurst. We needed a site clean-up, drainage pipe installation and burial as well as the rough grade of the site and topsoil installation. Benito was quite amenable to working with us. We were trying to get this done in November so that the driveway could be poured prior to the upcoming freezing weather. They came in, provided a quote that was below that obtained from our builder's landscaper and were onsite within a week of acceptance of the proposal. They worked tirelessly, even in the rain, trying to get the project completed. There was a lot of construction debris and they cleaned all of it up, installed on-site pvc pipe drainage connected to the city sewer as well as drainage in the site swales on the side of the house and at the back of the yard. The weather conditions were so poor that they weren't able to complete the project (and it became too cold to pour the concrete as well). However, in January, when the weather warmed up, Benito's crew came out, worked from early morning until well past dusk, completing the pipe burial as well as removing 3 small scrappy trees, finishing up the site clean-up and applying a significant amount of topsoil after finishing the rough grade. Now our yard is ready for patio installation, plantings and the fence. We couldn't be happier with the professionalism, diligence and care that Benito's Landscaping showed during this project.

+ 0 moreThey were prompt in providing initial estimates for annual maintenance and reasonable prompt in providing an estimate for re-landscaping. Some of the documents could not be read by my computer. Requested them to be sent again 11/12. Did not provide a sketch or drawing for what they were going to do so requested one on 11/17. They said they did not understand why it was not provided and said would send it the next day. Emailed again on 11/26 and requested it. No response. Never received a sketch of what they were going to do. Poor followup and therefore a poor grade. Would not use them.
Description of Work: Requested and estimate for annual maintenance and for re-landscapting the front yard. First response was 10/27.

+ -1 moreBenito is a great guy. He has gotten very busy in the last year or so but tries hard. We used to be able to call and he would just pick up his cell phone. This was a huge plus, but that benefit is really lost at this point since he has been busy and calls are sometimes not even returned at all. I would not call them the highest end group, but they are hardworking and honest. I would have previously rated them an A or B, but responsiveness is now an issue. Also, we have to keep an eye on things and ask for services or solutions. When you hire someone to handle the whole thing, I guess my expectation is that they would be the experts and suggest lawn care issues to us. Perhaps that is unfair. When we had a huge tree branch fall, they came out the next day and got rid of it at a reasonable cost. (Nearly no hassle! Big plus!)
Description of Work: Benitos does our weekly lawn maintenance as well as fertilizing, weeding, spring clean up, etc.

+ 0 moreThey did a really good job. They also did some work where they take your gutter and add an extension that runs into your yard and goes to a thing which is like a disposable system. It helps keep your yard from having water in one corner. They had to do digging for that and they also sorted the other half of the yard. They also took out a tree stump for us. It was a positive experience with the company and they did an excellent job. They had extremely good work ethics and they don't try to hard sell. They try to help you get what you want. They are not trying to sell you the most expensive tile if that's not what you want. They do the work as fast as possible but it is not that they are rushed to get the work done. They work aesthetically and carefully and that is good. We did some price enquiries but not a ton because it is hard to line up people and do estimates. I felt like they were very reasonable after reading some of the experiences. I would use them if we have any other work.
Description of Work: I used the service of Benito's Landscaping Inc for landscaping this summer. They did half of my yard in pavers for a patio area.

+ -1 moreDean was our initial contact. He met with me two days after I emailed our need to find a good contractor to undertake this tremendous and difficult job. He and his foreman met with me and we looked over the property needs. Dean and his foreman were able to give added suggestions for improvement which were very helpful. We analyzed what was there and what needed to be done to bring the property back to an aesthetic environment. Dean and his crew all worked on one of the hottest days in August and it proved to be an amazing transformation. Benito's worked this job in two basic stages. Stage one was the clearing and stage two a couple of weeks later was the seeding and sodding, when temperatures were more desirable for this process. Dean was very responsive to our needs and continually asked if there was anything else they could help us with. We will definitely have Dean on 'speed dial' for future projects. Benito's is a very versatile company that works well with its clients and seeks to meet their needs with 100% satisfaction!
Description of Work: Complete renovation of brother-in-law's yard from years of neglect was needed. Overgrown underbrush, shrubs, several tall trees, including pine and apple, were removed, stumps ground down, ivy removed from exterior of home, tree trimming of remaining trees, and removal of juniper were all performed well. Grading and sod was placed in the front yard and over-seeding in the backyard with super shady seed, penn mulch, and starter.

+ 0 moreTheir estimate was $40 for weekly lawn maintenance and $300 for fertilization. It was a lot more expensive than everybody else which was the only reason that I did not go with them. I wanted to go with them as they had higher ratings but they were way too expensive. They were very professional. They came by the house when I wasn't there and did an estimate for me. I would go with them in the future if I get another estimate from them that was more reasonable or even if it was a little higher than everybody else because they were very good.

+ 1 moreAfter my initial call, they were out for an evaluation within a few days. They we very knowledgeable about the plants and had many good ideas about how to improve my yard, working with what was already here. After the initial evaluation, they walked around the yard with me and discussed the proposed changes for each area. Everyone on the team was very easy to work with. When I did receive the written estimate, I was surprised to find the estimate for lawn care was missing. After calling them, I was informed that they did not do weekly lawn care in my area. This was something that I had told them prior to the initial evaluation that I was looking for. I did not use the company because I wanted to work with one company for all of my landscaping needs. I would consider them in the future if I pursue any of the larger changes that they did recommend.

They are very good about moving hoses or toys in the yard and I am very appreciative for this. Good company to do business with. I had a temporary cable line laying on the grass that they would move consistently. They would take care never to run the mower over anything that wasn't grass. I've had landscapers in the passed that wouldn't care.

+ 2 moreThe company was very professional and friendly from the first contact by phone. All representatives were responsive, courteous and prompt. the work was done within the expected timeframe. The guys that performed the work did a great job, were friendly and courteous, worked long days, and cleaned up the jobsite very thoroughly at the end of the job. They even powerwashed the pre-existing stone retaining wall after they reset it - it looked like new stone! The new limestone retaining wall that was created was beautiful - much better than I'd imagined! The quality of the underground drainage and the connections to the downspouts and sump pump line was MUCH better than what was previously in place. We were very pleased with all the work performed by Benito's and definitely plan to use them for additional services in the future.
Description of Work: Work performed: underground drainage (4" PVC) was run for 3 downspouts and a sump pump line; an existing stone retaining wall was reset, a new stone retaining wall was created and the area behind it was backfilled to raise and level part of a planting bed; existing patio blocks were reset to improve slope away from house; all beds were edged and mulched. While the edging and mulching quotes on their own were a bit more expensive than we've paid to other companies in the past, the estimate for the total work to be performed seemed fair.

+ 1 moreTheir work and attention to detail were impeccable. The finished product looks great and the workers talked me through what they did as they worked, which is helpful to visualize what the final product will look like before it's too late (not that I needed to change anything in this case). They were also patient with me hovering around with a 15-month old who wanted to watch the action. The guys who did the mulch also deserve a special recommendation. They were out there on a day that was upper 90 degrees and they worked all day long without much break. They were very meticulous and the final job was done perfectly. My only complaint with Benito's was how long it took them to complete these jobs. With the violent Chicago weather this summer, they had other priorities to help regular customers with downed trees, etc. However, it was probably 6 weeks from when I paid the deposit to when the work was completed. It would have been a little better if I did not have to keep calling to get status updates on my jobs.
Description of Work: I had Benito's replacing a retaining wall/step combination at the corner of my house, as well as mulch and edging for my yard. I had an existing wood and paver retaining wall/step that I needed to tear down because of drainage problems. Benito's removed the remaining pieces that I left partially and rebuilt a flagstone retaining wall/step with drainage. They put in a small drainage route to avoid the problems that caused me to tear down the wall in the first place. They also matched the flagstone to what existed on my house, so the new wall/step matches the existing stone. For mulch and edging, they edged out a few undefined beds for me and mulched my entire lot.

Description of Work: I called Benito's to give me estimate for 3 raised beds. Size 7 by 5 feet. I also wanted to be fenced . Simple chicken wire to prevent dog from entering. Also soil for those beds. The price they gave me was $3540.00. It took about 5 days from the day he came to get estimate and it was way too much for the vegetable bed that I wanted.

It was a big job and 3 guys arrived on time, went right to work and did a great job. The difference in our yard is amazing and neighbors have commented on how nice the yard looks. They called two days later to make sure we were happy. We will consider Benito's for any future work as they are competent and professional and work very hard to get the job done to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: Created new plain edge border around circumference of backyard and dispose of all extra grass and plant debris, rocks. Pull out grass by fence and weeds in garden areas for a lot and a half space; deliver and install 5 cu yards of chocolate mulch.

He showed up on time and answered calls very quickly. He was very specific in the quote that he offered. I would definitely contact them again for another quote.

+ -1 moreFirst off - I've had this company perform work for me before grinding down a fairly large tree strump. They did an excellent job at a very reasonable price last year. I dealt directly with Benito himself. I recently have been in contact with them, Doug, to perform the same work on a different tree stump. I got my estimate quickly. I haggled with them and we settled on $200. They were going to come out the end of the week (3-4 days away). They never showed. I called them and they said they're grinding blade broke. I think thats a reasonable excuse so I asked them when they were coming out and he said sometime late next week to get a new blade (This was about 6-9 days away.) I agreed. They never showed again. This time I called a few times, left a message and haven't heard back from them in over a week. If they don't want to do the work, thats fine then tell me. I cannot stand getting yanked around like my time is worthless, especially when we had a deal. In closing, IF you can get this company to perform the work, you won't be dissapointed.
