Approximately 25 years ago I installed a Slant Fin boiler myself. The unit was showing its' age and we had installed a Navien Tankless Water Heater earlier this spring and we were very impressed with the quality of this product. When PRO-TEMP was asked to quote I suggested the Navien Brand. It turned out to be lower cost than the brand they had been using. A competitor quoted the Navien Brand, but opted for a larger (less efficient) unit and they were aproximately $700 higher. We agreed to go with PRO-TEMP and scheduled the installation for late September. Lucas and his helper David arrived and began preparing covers for our newly re-finished basement steps. The removed and hauled away all of the parts of the old system and began the installation of the new unit. Many years ago I gained a great deal of experience in heating working as an installer while going to college. Lucas is extraordinary, he leaves nothing to chance. Wherever he installed a pump or valve he also installed ball shut off valves so that if these critical parts had to be replaced, it could be done without draining the whole system. This is critical in maintaining a hot water system. Our home is unique, it is 90 years old and designated a historical landmark. The exterior is stucco and interior walls are plaster. The weather was quite cool prior to the installation and in a matter of 24-48 hours the new unit came on stream, quiet and subtle and the heat is even and very comfortable. The workers arrived promptly and wasted no time. They had to lower the furnace to properly install the coil whick had been improperly installed. They added return vents in the basement and placed 4 cold air returns near ceiling level on the man floor. They installed the return to the furnace so that the filter was easily accessible from the outside (very convenient). All the sheet metal work was perfect. The entire job took about 10 hours. Afterwards, the cleaned up everything nicely.

Pro Temp was very quick to get me a new unit. I was told 4 to 6 hours for the job. The crew completed it in less than 4 hours. The new unit is working great. Would highly recommend them to friends.

What a joy to do business with. About 11:30 am I called Pro Temp and explained that my 5 year old, top of the line Lennox HVAC system was delivering no heat. I believed the unit was still under parts warranty and the original installer (with whom we fad a lousy experience--see my review under AAA Expert HVAC of Downers Grove now doing business as Expert HVAC--same lousy service/reviews, just a newer name) was not an acceptable choice. I was given Pro Temps contact info by Lennox. After a short pause on hold, the person I spoke with asked for some info about the symptoms and error codes shown on the iTemp thermostat. He said they could be there between 2 and 3 pm. At 1:45, Chester, the owner, knocked on the door and I was thrilled he was there early. It was getting pretty cold in the house. He investigated inside the furnace and outside at the air intake and exhaust. He found a few leaves had been sucked into the intake pipe, but after a few minutes, determined the furnace pressure switch was not working. He had already checked with Lennox to verify our warranty status and located the part at a depot about 30 minutes away. He excused himself and departed. About 50 minutes later he was back with the part and installed it in the furnace. In about 10 minutes more, we had heat. He also pointed out some rust inside the furnace caused by the previously mentioned installer whose Bozos used an inappropriate coupling between metal piping and a plastic coupling and it was leaking and causing the corrosion. I asked how much to do it right and Chester said a trip charge plus and hour's work. I thought this refreshing. He did not make it more threatening than needed, just said it should be addressed at some point. I thought his proposed charge to be quite reasonable and the hourly rate to be quite competitive. I thanked him for coming out on short notice and he said he understood how terrible it can be to not have heat, and while all his other guys were engaged on this coldest day of the year, he was happy to help. We said we wanted the extra work done and he said they could schedule by week's end. He said to not bother with a check. He would invoice us as one bill after the extra work was completed. What a pro (company name seems apt) and what a nice person. I have no hesitation recommending Chester and his company. In fact, in an industry known for incompetence and, at times, deceptive business practices, Chester impresses me as a shining star in the HVAC/Home Improvement world. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

It was a negative experience working with this company. It was a dirty job and they did it but they were not professional and I can’t recommend them. They were not on time and didn’t show up when they said they would; they were over scheduled.

Since the repair the blower has never worked right. It is either too hot in winter or too cold in summer. If we set the temperature to 78 F the lower does not cut out ever. so that the upstairs can go down to as low as 67F wasting energy and making everyone uncomfortable. The issue is non performance of the repair since we unearthed the problem in summer when the A/C was turned on. We have asked to to come and repair it over twenty times but they have resorted to coming up with all sorts of excuses. Now they do not answer our calls. Since they are the ones who have come up with the wiring (faulty) no one else is willing to touch it. Never again will I deal with tem. This company did have an A grade from one person which probably was not enough of a testimonial.

John arrived on time. His workers cleaned up after themselves and worked hard. The furnace vent was threaded up 3 floors inside an existing chase. Other HVAC contractors said it could not be done and insisted on charging extra in their bids to vent the furnace to the back of the house. John went the extra mile to make the chase work without any additional charge.
