We shopped around on Angie's List and narrowed our fence options to three businesses. TruLink offered a competitive price, but threw in a couple of extras (covering up an old laundry line that was in poured concrete inside our yard, building an extra niche to place our garbage cans in, etc.). We also really liked our sales guy. He's retired and does this for 'fun' during the summer months of the year. After discussing our bids and the service that we anticipated getting - we opted for TruLink. I called to arrange for our install and left a message. After multiple calls, I finally had a return from TruLink and was told that a scheduler would call me. We had some urgency in getting started, as we had company coming in a week or so and wanted the fence and backyard to be completed by the time they arrived. We quickly pulled together our permits...but waited and waited for TruLink's scheduler to call me back. All in all, I think from first contact (with permit in hand) to actual schedule date (not install...just schedule) - took a week and a half. Once our install date came, we were told it would take two days. Three gentlemen arrived at 7:00 a.m. and began work. My husband tried to communicate, but they spoke very little English. In short - they delivered the job in one day and added some additional beautiful design accents to the work. Despite the 'back office' being hard to navigate through, our start and ending experience with TruLink was great. Our fence is beautiful - we love it!

They installed everything in the dead of winter in below freezing temperatures, predicting accurately about 5 days beforehand when the weather would warm enough for the concrete to set. They used lasers, our survey, and other techniques to determine property lines accurately. They handled the JULIE ticket to Nicor, and helped me navigate Nicor's byzantine system. The process from the original estimate to installation was about two weeks. We're completely satisfied. Hopefully, we'll never need another fence, but if we do, we're calling these guys again.
Description of Work: Tru-link installed a 6' aluminum (looks like black painted stainless steel) fence around the back yard of our corner lot, including a gate and a small portion of wood fencing to connect to the neighbor's fence.

Estimate was 100% accurate and the installers worked very hard to make sure they did a professional job - which they did. The company took care of notifying the utilities so this was something I did not have to do. All I needed to do was obtain the permit from the village. After the installation the village inspected and found that the installers were accurate on installing the fence properly on the property line. Tru-Link did an excellent job and I am pleased we selected them. Incidentally, this is the second time they have installed a fence for us - the first time was over 30 years ago and they did a great job back then as well.

They were punctual and responsive. By the time the salesman arrived, we had determined that a new fence was needed and not just a repair, based on our discussions with two other fence companies. We felt the salesman really didn't listen to our needs and kept trying to push features off on us that we didn't want and didn't need. The quote that we received ended up not including some of the things we had asked for, though the price was fair considering what was proposed. We ended not choosing this company since they didn't provide a quote for the fencing features we had specifically requested.

Sales rep was okay, price was best of the 3 estimates we got. Installer was very good - came out at 7 am so I didn't have to go into work late, worked around some issues with the neighbor's fence, double checked with the survey to make sure we were on the property line, finished up in one day, fence looks great, built on site with high quality wood.

I contacted the company for an estimate and provided some preliminary information as to the work I wanted done. I scheduled an appointment to meet with Sales Rep 1 on June 7, 2010, at 4:30 p.m. I arrived home early (approximately 3:45 p.m.) to find an estimate in my mailbox. The estimate did not include all of the work I wanted done, but did include some work that I did not want done. I contacted Sales Rep 1 and asked what he had done and why he arrived before our appointment time. I also asked why he had not contacted me to let me know that he would be arriving earlier than expected. He told me that he had tried to call me (he had been calling the wrong number ). He also told me that he had been in the area all day and just did what he thought I wanted. I told him that the estimate was wrong and that it was important for me to meet with him so that I could show him what I wanted. He cut me off and said I didn't need to be there for the estimate because he knew what I wanted. After hearing that from him a couple of time I told that I wasn't happy with the way our conversation was going and that perhaps I shouldn't deal with this his company. He then finally began to apologize and asked to reschedule. Reluctantly, I did, but after hanging up I had second thoughts and called the company to cancel. After explaining what had happened I was asked to give them a second chance with Sales Rep 2, and was told that Sales Rep 2 would call as soon as he was free. He did, and we scheduled and appointment for the next day June 8, 2010 at 6 p.m. Sales Rep 2 was a no call, no show. On June 10, 2010, Sales Rep 2 called, and thinking that I was another customer...proceeded to tell me that he couldn't make an appointment that, apparently, he had scheduled for the following day. When I told him who I was, he said, "Oh, yes, we are supposed to meet at 6:00." I reminded him that we were supposed to meet at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday past. Then it got even more strange. Sales Rep 2 informed me that Sales Rep 1 was on his way to my house. After reminding him of the incident with Sales Rep 1, I reminded him that I had not made another appointment with Sales Rep 1 for obvious reasons and that I no longer wanted to use Tru-link. Sales Rep 2 said, "Well, he's on his way." I advised him that he should intercept Sales Rep 1 and tell him not to come. He did not take my advice and Sales Rep 1 showed up at my house. Sales Rep 1 ended up calling me on the phone and telling me to meet him outside my house for our "appointment." I told him that I had not scheduled an appointment and said, "goodbye." I tried to call Tru-link to complain, but got no answer. When I arrived at work the next morning, I had a voice mail message from Sales Rep 1 (left at 4:50 p.m. - he knew I would have been home by 4:30 p.m. based on our first appointment schedule) "confirming" our appointment for 6:00 p.m., (which I never made). Extremely disappointed. Will NEVER use them and will NEVER recommend them.

Original estimate when them came was for 30 ft fence. I called and added 2 ft. We agreed upon a price. I signed and faxed contract. I got the permit from my village in 2 hours. Called told them I was ready to start. They gave me a start date and time. Crew arrived about 2 hours late as they got tied up on another job. I had to call to see where they were. I would have preferred a call to update me with arrival status as I took off from work. Fence was finished in 3 hours and the crew made sure no mess was left and verified which side of fence I wanted to look at from my home. I had one minor problem that was corrected by the company the next day. They at first tried to install a wood top with a diamond pattern instead of lattice at the top. I called the company about this and the appropriate diamond. lattice top was put on next working day (monday) Fence looks good and we love the diamond lattice at the top.
Description of Work: Installed 32 ft western cedar fence 6ft high with an additional foot of diamond lattice. Fence was used to screen out side of neighbors house.

The installer was great - right on time and got to work immediately. He even removed the old fence that had weed trees completely grown into it. The new fence was built on site. He gave us a few extra boards and was careful that no gaps remained where the fence met the building & gate so dogs couldn't get out. I wish he had cleaned up a little better (there were some metal pieces left around from the old fence), but overall a great job and a very good price.

I had so many difficulties subsequently with the company having them out to fix it. It took six months before we finally got it resolved and the person I had to deal with was absolutely horrible. Ten years ago, the original installation was great, but the subsequent repairs weren't good.
Description of Work: They originally put in a fence for us ten years ago and about two years ago the posts were heaving so they charged us to fix them. The following winter, some of the posts that they had repaired were heaving again. The work of them repairing the posts was under warranty.

With little notice, my neighbor took down his fence. My three dogs were delighted, me...not so much! First, I went on line (and didn't get called back for a week--DONT use the on-line site for estimate requests unless time is not a factor!). After waiting five days, I checked Angie's list, and called the Tru-link company, asking for Todd as others recommended on Angie's list. After I called Todd, my fence was installed in one week! (This includes his day coming to do the estimate, contacting J.U.L.I.E., and the installation.) Todd knew that I was worried about my dogs, and that we were leaving for vacation very soon. The work was done perfectly, and the fence looks as though it as been there for a while (no lumps/piles of dirt, vegetation relatively undisturbed...just perfect!) Although this was a relatively small job, all the more reason to heap on the praise! I am beyond delighted (the dogs, not so much!) ;-)

2 workers showed up, on time, dug all the posts, placed all the dirt where I told them to put it. Came back next day, on time, and finished on time, total completion time was 2 days. Todd, the sales rep, was very professional and followed up professionally as well. 2 workers were OUTSTANDING! Very polite. Explained what they were going to do. Clean. Precise. Professional. Would definitely recommend and use again.
Description of Work: Sales Rep, Todd Adams gave the estimate. Notified me immediately about the sale they were having. Was out to our house within 48hrs for an estimate. Price given was price paid. 4ft high fence approx 230ft in overall length. Work started less then 1 week after 50% deposit given and building permit received. I removed old fence myself to save $454.00, which took me less than 3 hrs.

Larry Lester came out to give us an estimate. He provided very helpful tips on placement and selection. Once we chose the fence we wanted, we had to go to the village to get a permit. They do not dispose of any dirt that is dug out for the posts, but they told me this in advance. With the permit in-hand, Tru-Link's installers came out and put in the fence the same week and installed it. They were very prompt and professional. My only suggestion would be that the installers first flag the locations of the fence and confirm with me before digging the posts and pouring the concrete. They were so quick that I didn't get a chance to pre-approve the locations of the fence before they poured the concrete. Not a huge deal, as the locations turned out to be OK, but I could see this being a problem for some people. I'd use them again.

Obviously they are only after the money they can make. It doesn't matter whose property they cut into. They certainly were not apologetic about it, nor did they offer solutions.
Description of Work: This company installed a gate and a gate extension for my neighbor. However, they drilled into MY ($2500) foundation apron to install one of the gates 4"by 4" supports. My foundation apron is now thoroughly compromised by this 4" by 4" hole in the concrete. They also put this support as well as the one on the extension; smack up against my new aluminum drip cap and siding. The siding and drip cap are dented and scratched. In addition when the weather turns warmer the expansion of the supports will cause further damage. When I contacted the company to find our why they would drill into someone else's property line and comprised an obvious foundation apron and the damage to the siding, without permission!....their response was -- " (your neighbor) should have thought about that". As a responsible company - I think it was completely their responsibility to tell my neighbor at the time of his contracting them - that he needed to consider my property. My neighbor only had the security of his family in his mind. A truly responsible salesman AND or installer would have stopped to investigate whether the entire gate and extension was on the client's property completely. And if not - would have sold a gate that only covered the clients property. I (and has my neighbor - when he realized what this company had done) asked the company to return to do two things: place a concrete 'caulk' around the support in my now compromised foundation apron, - and notch and cut the wood away from my drip cap and siding. So far no response.

We visited the showroom where we made an appointment for an estimate. Richard came within three days, surveyed the job, and gave us the written proposal on 11-2-07. We wanted the fence before Christmas and were assured that it would be completed by first week of December. By Dec. 1st we hadn't heard from them, and after playing phone tag with their answering machine (a human seldom answered), we were told they were waiting for gate hardware. On Dec. 13th I was called at work that they were ready to start. They started on the 14th and returned on the 17th to finish the job. On the 17th at noon I was called at work to let me know that they were finished and wanted payment. I said I had to see job first. I checked completed job that evening and found it satisfactory. Overall, I found that the company is difficult to communicate with, and once the 50% payment was given, they were not flexible about complying with my request to have locks added or workers adding a mailbox to fence.
Description of Work: The workers repositioned an existing chain link fence from the front to the side. They added a steel ornamental fence to the front of the house, extended to empty lot, and put in two gates.

I thought the price was fine because we had another company give us an estimate that was a lot higher. So far the fence looks great. I have not had any complaints and the job was just done in August. So far it has held up just fine and my husband and I are very happy with our fence.
Description of Work: We just had a fence put up by this company pretty recently in fact. This is a side fence that separates my house from my neighbor's house. Its chain link and it s the whole side of our house through the back yard.
