Quality Wood Flooring

From start to finish, Mark and his crew provided excellent workmanship, timely service, and treated my home with great respect. They always arrived on time; the project started on time and finished on time. I have friends who work in construction-related or home refinishing businesses who commented that the quality of workmanship was superb. My floors are now beautiful, gleaming showpieces and I can't thank Mark and his crew enough for their wonderful work.

I had about 400 Sq. Ft. total, and there were some extra charges in addition to the deal. They stuck to their price for the Big Deal and the estimate of the extra charges. There were no surprises! They actually stained the floors, in Kona. They worked with me to make sure the color was correct. They did a great job! They covered everything in High Gloss and it looks amazing. They hand up tarps in door ways and windows to keep the dust from going into other rooms. They were done with the service in one day!

I was able to get on the schedule within 2 weeks. The owner, Mark, made the process easy. The floors look great. I think I might have liked to have a second coat of stain, but they had already put down a coat of polyurethane before I had a chance to see the floors. I still think the floors look great. I don't know much about the process, so I didn't think to ask to have them show me the floors throughout each stage or discuss this up front. I'm still happy with the work and would hire them again.

The floors are beautiful! Their work was clean and thorough. They did the work according to predictable time schedule; they were pleasant people to have in my home. The floors look new; they wiped away 65 years of age, soil and wear. Thanks

Mark was very honest about what could and couldn't be done with the floors and in the end talked us out of doing the floors the way we had intended - in effect, talking himself out of a job. But we were very pleased to get his professional opinion. When we redo the downstairs floors in a few years, we will definitely go to him for the job.

Mark and his team were excellent. Mark responded within hours of my initial call and was able to schedule the work at my house within a week. He re-finished the hardwood floors in my master bedroom and definitely exceeded expectations. The weather certainly cooperated (low humidity), but they worked quickly and started/finished the room in the same day. The floors look beautiful and we are now considering tearing out carpet and refinishing the hardwood in other rooms of our house because the master bedroom floors look so fabulous. Mark was extremely professional, transparent and efficient. He will be at the top of my list in the future as we are considering additional hardwood work/installation.

Mark and his employees were prompt, friendly, and most importantly did a great job. Mark directed me to a flooring distributor where I could review and select flooring products, which he purchased and installed. This resulted in a significant savings to me, compared to prices quoted by a retail flooring store. I would not hesitate to use Quality Wood Flooring again for future projects.

Mark Grimm, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and skilled at his craft. He is very personable and easy to talk to. He answers the phone when you call. He comes out to bid the job, and he is on the job when the work is being done, along with his assistant Nick. Mark sizes things up quickly and communicates clearly, answering any questions you might have. His was not the lowest or the highest bid I got, but it was immediately obvious to me that he knew what he was talking about. (One company sent a salesperson who seemed flummoxed by the grand piano in the room.) Mark and Nick work together seamlessly. I'm retired and I was at home, but I would trust them to be in my home without me there. I was lucky with the weather - it was mild enough to leave windows open and the odor wasn't that bad. It was real humid though, and they didn't try to rush the process. Day one (three hours): preparing the area, sealing off doorways with plastic, and sanding the floor. Day two (three hours): detail sanding of edges/corners, buffing, and applying the first two coats of polyurethane (I chose not to use a stain to keep it light). Day three (two hours): final coat of poly. There is a certain amount of preparation and inconvenience involved in having your floors refinished - emptying out the room, allowing time for the finish to cure, etc. but it is well worth it! I am so glad I chose Quality Wood Flooring: the name says it all.

First and foremost. Mark does all the work. He is the salesman, gives the bids, does the floors himself. There is no other staff. The price was better than the companies that have staff. My terms were simple. Once we agree on time to start, I have his undivided attention. He stays at my house does everything until her finishes. He shows up in the morning on time, and I asked him not to put any coats on my floors after 3PM, since it takes about 3 hours to dry enough to walk on and I wanted to come into my house at night. He did all this and more. He is very agreeable and I believe very knowledgeable on finishing wood floors. He booked me for a 5 days of work and finished one day early, Thursday morning he was gone at 10AM. I would recommend him to anyone.

Mark did an excellent job on our floors. We could not have been happier. We originally contacted another company recommended by Angie's List and they could not refinish our floors for months but got an estimate. We then called Mark and not only was he responsive and could come out weeks earlier, he was several hundred dollars cheaper than his competitor! We were beyond thrilled. We had just bought our house and wanted to move in as soon as possible. Mark even gave us an estimate with the carpet still down which is something many flooring companies would not do. We had him refinish and sand to a natural color our entire upstairs (4 bedrooms) as well as the stairway. The results are AMAZING. We did not know how the floors would look since they have been under carpet for about 50 years but he did a great job. There was some water damage but most of that sanded out. The floors are smooth and beautiful. We went with the sateen finish recommended by Mark since it was more durable and it looks great. Perfect for bedrooms. If we ever had another sanding project, we will use them again. I will also recommend him to all my friends.

As with my first experience with Mark, everything went fantastically. He called the day-of to let me know he was on his way, arrived on time, and set up quickly. On the first day, he managed to sand two floors with an absolute minimum of dust--which he cleaned up. One of the floors was BADLY stained, but Mark got all but the faintest trace of that stain out of the floor without leaving any pitting or grooves of any kind. Mark then stained both floors a GORGEOUS dark color (called "Kona"), and did a beautiful, smooth job of it. I had asked for polyurethane on these floors, and Mark let me know that it would stink like nothing you'd believe, but also everything he could to ventilate things and prevent any problems. He set up fans and venting and let the floors dry overnight. He accomplished all of this on Day 1! For Day 2, he came, buffed the floors down, and then applied the high-gloss sealant to make the floors really shine. He explained curing times and when we could move things back into the rooms, and then he did a final round of clean-up. I couldn't be happier. The floors look better than they did when they were brand-new.

This was a FANTASTIC crew to work with. All of my questions were answered thoroughly on the phone, and the appointment was confirmed the weekend before they came. They were perfectly on time, and they finished early each day they worked (three days). The sanding was *painless*. They used full plastic tarps and managed to sand so that I did NOT have dust everywhere. They don't take up the baseboards (or at least, we discussed it and opted not to for my very old, brittle baseboards), but they warned me about that, and we discussed possible options. We settled on something that made me very happy and only required slight paint touch ups. The sealant is solid (not a scratch to be seen, even with two large dogs, after 3 months), and the floor is just beautiful. I'm actually having them come back next month to do two more floors. I couldn't recommend these guys highly enough. They do great work.

I have a stairway that has carpeting in the middle but hardwood floors on the edges. I wanted to use the Big Deal to help sand and refinish the wood, and I found out this was not the type of work that the company was able to do. He suggested that a painter might be the best person to call about this. I will end up asking Angie’s List to help me find another deal instead.

We got 3 estimates for refinishing just the foyer and hall. All of the companies we contacted told us there was a minimum charge for any work performed and the area we were wanting refinished would be less than the minimum. We then asked for a couple of different estimates for additional flooring to be installed. Mark got our business mostly due to the fact that he was more responsive than the other company we were considering. He was also very diligent about keeping both my wife and I informed about what was happening, scheduling and what our options were. The work was performed quickly and efficiently. The flooring looks beautiful now. Especially the new flooring! Mark does a great job and the dust left behind was minimal. If I need additional flooring installed or refinished, I will be calling Mark Grimm and Quality Wood Flooring first.

Mark worked with me to set a convenient time for me to empty my house so that work could be done properly. Other than a huge snowstorm that hit the day before he was suppose to start, all went well. Even using an Angie's List coupon for 100 sq ft - the value was even better than I imagined. Mark counseled me on the color (went natural) and the finish (satin instead of high gloss) - and the results are wonderful. I was comfortable leaving him and his crew unattended - they locked up each night as they finished. Very little dust in other areas of the house - which is great. I would highly recommend using Quality Wood for your floors!!

It was a good experience. Mark was very nice to deal with and I was happy with the work he did. What I appreciated most is that he showed up when he said he would and left things very neat when he left.

They did a great job refinishing my kitchen floor. On time, professional - all-around positive experience, and the floor looks great!

It went very smoothly and exactly in the time frame specified. the first day the floors were sanded, stained and sealed. The second day they came in and resealed. They gave us recommendations as to color and sealers. They were experienced and professional.

Mark Grimm (business owner, who actually did the work with his two-man team) called shortly after I bought the Angie's List Big Deal offer, we discussed the scope of my (small) project, we got set up for Jan 21, 2013 start date. Day one was to sand, repair, stain, and seal the floor; day two was planned for two coats of water based finish (slightly more expensive, but is supposed to last longer and be more resistant to yellowing). On the morning of day two, we identified a misunderstanding from our discussion on day one, whether the final finish would be satin or semi-gloss. Mark thought satin, and I thought semi-gloss. Unfortunately, Mark only had Satin finish with him, and I agreed to see how it looked (significant distance from his business location to my job site to get different finish). The water based finish was applied pretty quickly, and also dries quickly, allowing for a second coat same day (the small project helped). After seeing the resultant satin finish, my wife & I decided we actually did want the semi-gloss finish, so Mark & I negotiated a return visit to apply an additional semi-gloss final coat. The final coat was completed on Jan 25. Mark and Travis were a pleasure to interact with. Mark kept me up to speed with the "where's" and "why's" and "how goes it's" that would be part of any job. They didn't seem to mind me watching their work (I really like to learn how projects are done as I'm an avid DIY'er, but without time to tackle this project). Other notes: - Mark's work plan doesn't normally remove baseboards (his initial phone discussion with me covered that), so I removed the closet and basement doors, all adjacent baseboards, repaired and refinished them, and re-installed them myself. I didn't ask, but I suppose this all could be negotiated. Mark was willing to work up to the baseboards if left in place, but I would guess they would remove doors that swing or hang over the wood areas anyway. Points that would are worth discussing in advance. - My Angie's List "Big Deal" was a discounted amount for 100 sq ft of floor refinishing. My project was only 77 sq ft. Mark's minimum charge is for 200 sq ft; a minimum charge seemed typical of other floor re finishers when I called for other estimates. - My small project was an entry/hallway, one of those two-story front door entry areas where there is a small landing inside the front door about (8'w x 4'd) then half of the length of entry area is for the carpeted stairway up to 2d level, and half is for wood hallway to family room at back of main level. The hallway has a 2' x 8'w closet with wood floor, and a turn area/landing at top of basement stairs/doorway near family room casual dining room entry. Since the small areas are broken up, and the wood slats run cross-ways to the hallway (parallel to front door/landing width), the sanding work took longer than a wide open room would have. The large machine floor sander made quick work of the areas that were large enough to use it. They used a hand guided large (about 8") disk sander for all the edges and the areas the floor sander couldn't reach.

They and did an excellent job--even getting out a large stain that we thought would need replacement boards. The guys were prompt, professional, and very nice--would definitely use again.

The contractor arrived on time, called first to make sure we were ready. Explained the process and the time frame involved in the work. They kept on that schedule and left me with a lovely floor and absolutely no cleanup. They wer prompt and courteous, respectful of my home and cleaned up everything before they left. Mark Grimm, the owner, also gave me instructions on how to care for the floor and keep it as nice as they left it. I will have another room to do soon and plan on using Mark for the work.

The company came to my house but found they could not perform the task I needed due to the type of hardwood we have in our home (Tigerwood). I was refunded my money quickly.

We would use them again. They were on time and very clean. We were going to have them stain the floors, but they told us the color of the floor would be fine with the natural seal. they were right. the floors look better than when we moved in.
