Robert was extremely efficient and knowledgeable. I got two other bids, but was able to get the insulation level I needed and get the special work I wanted done to create a custom ceiling fan cover for about the same as just insulating the attic would have been from the other two bidders. The work was done on time, and as promised.

I have used Silver Hammer before and found Robert to be responsive, responsible and competent. Everything went smoothly and the work was professional, tidy and on budget. I would use them again.

Robert Omelson, the owner of Silver Hammer, responded very promptly to my initial phone inquiry. Within a day or two he came by to gather information about the tasks, and he quickly assessed what needed to be done. The very next day I received a detailed and understandable estimate, by way of email, with each task broken out separately. I was pleased with the organized explanation and the estimate, which was approximately one-half of a very non-specific estimate from another company receiving strong ratings on Angie's List. The "other company" also said it would take two days to complete the tasks, whereas Robert said it would only require one day. As soon as the heat lamps arrived, Robert was able to clear a day for the work. On project day, Robert was punctual, personable, and very productive. He got all tasks accomplished, and we are very pleased with the results. During conversations, I mentioned that as soon as he finished his work, I had to get busy painting the great room (ceiling and walls), because we were hosting the family Thanksgiving. Robert immediately offered to leave his tall ladder and numerous dropcloths to help with the paint job. What a thoughtful and incredibly helpful gesture! I'm not sure how I would've been able to reach some of the peaks of the ceiling without the ladder. Robert's reasonable rates, the quality of his work, and his willingness to "go beyond" the basics make it a pleasure for me to recommend Silver Hammer for home handyman work!

This is the second time I have used Silver Hammer ( See my May 2009 report ). ..Robert and crew had done a condo rehab for me. My tenant called me in June 2010 to report that the electricty had gone out in part of the condo. Long story short, a circuit was severely overloaded due to poor wiring before I bought the unit. Wires were fried from the breaker box to outlets throughout the condo. This extensive repair was above Roberts capability, so he brought in a licensed electrician he partners with, and had the repair done in 2 days...one to estimate what was needed to be done, and the other to schedule time with my tenant to get it done. They were able to work with some existing wire that was already pulled in the conduit but not being used, which saved a whole bunch of time and money. They set up a separate GFCI breaker, blocked off an exterior outlet that my tenant thought was the cause of the problem, and got what turned out to be a potentially disastrous situation squared away in no time. Tenant is happy that he had his AC back since we were headed into a string of hot weather. Once again, I highly recommend Robert Omelson and Silver Hammer Construction....I never once went to the condo...Robert took care of it all, explained what he had found, how they were going to do the repair, and an estimate of what it would cost. If you have odd jobs, minor or major home improvement, you owe it to yourself to get a Silver Hammer quote.

I called Robert to get a quote and he came out the same day. He was very straightforward and professional, and quoted me $75 labor. This compared very favorably to another quote I received. Robert told me to buy the swing and call him when I was ready to hang it. I ordered the swing to arrive on a Thursday and called Robert; he put me on the list for that Saturday. He showed up on time, went right to work, and installed the project quickly and professionally. It looks great. His price was right on. I couldn't be happier and will use Robert in the future for other handyman projects. We are very happy and feel we now "have a guy" when things go wrong.

I had a collection of small jobs that my husband & I could do but weren't getting done, plus a larger job that we couldn't do. The larger job was a part of the house that had been walled in but never finished. It had no floor, just dirt, and the walls were down to the studs - no insulation, no wallboard. I spotted Silver Hammer on Angie's List and realized that the owner, Robert, was a neighbor. I stopped by his house to talk to him and arranged a time for him to come over and do an estimate. He came on time, we talked about it, and he gave us a written estimate with prices. His prices were reasonable, and I did not even bother getting other estimates. He did the job in 2 phases, to suit my schedule. In the course of both jobs, adjustments came up due to oddities in my house. He explained them to me, I made decisions, and then he did the extra work. This caused some reasonable price changes that were explained to me ahead of time. In the end, the work, esp the small closet and associated electrical work, turned out better than I expected when I hired Robert. He pointed out and was able to correct another electrical problem in a nearby room.

Robert and his helper Keith started a week after I signed the contract, as scheduled. I was amazed how much they got done in just a few days. I'm talking two full bathroom remodels with drywall, tile (floor and shower), cabinets, fans, lights. In fact, I held them up when I decided to go custom kitchen cabinets, which took three weeks to get. I also had my son slated to put in laminate flooring throughout the unit. He conked out after doing the master bedroom. I called Robert for a quote to finish the floor, got a very reasonable price, and the entire unit was floored in two days. Other smaller things came up that weren't part of the original estimate, and he was always very flexible and reasonable to get things done. His invoices even had credits on them for material they took back to Lowes that they didn't need, to swap for stuff they did....I think anybody else would have just jammed me for the extra material and pocketed the difference. In the end, by the time the unit was ready to be rented, I literally had people begging me to pick them as tenants because the unit was so nice. A job well done. Robert gave me a written quote within 24 hours. The quote included references, city licensing cert, and an insurance cert. I agreed to the quote and work began on the agreed date. Robert and his helper: installed 10 rafter chutes at the appropriate locations (soffit vents). Trimmed the existing R19 around the vents and generally cleaned up the original installation. Properly laid out the R25 on top of the R19. Laid out tarps and wore booties to protect floors. Cleaned up and removed all waste materials including scraps of old insulation and some old waste wood. I overestimated the square footage (988 vs 1150) and they finished a little early. Robert suggested recalculating the bill and we agreed on a slightly lower price (when is the last time something like that happened?). I was very pleased with the whole experience and will use Silver Hammer again.
