+ -1 moreKnowing that our home was built in the 1930's and that we needed a professional to install a new entry door, we sought out firms that could sell us a door and install it. Initially, we chose The Door Store as they sell the Simpson brand doors. This is an affordable wood door that could be customized and then stained. We also needed to replace the screen door and liked what they recommended. Lastly, we wanted the bedroom door hardware to be changed and they sell the Emtek brand which we like. Their carpenters were professional and we are pleased that all doors swing perfectly and the door hardware is a huge improvement. There was a mid-point problem with our wood door not taking the stain, so they installed a temporary door to accommodate our summer travel plans. We look forward to working with them again!

The installers have always done a very professional job and left my home in immaculate condition. The price in somewhat higher than the big box stores, but is competitive with other door stores. Finally, I have direct access to the owner. This super service has led me to continue the relationship, as they will be here on Monday to install a new entrance door.

+ -1 moreThis company was a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end. Our sales person Chuck was experienced, pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful, as we needed direction. There were so very many options to choose from. In the past we purchased an interior and two storm doors from a big box store and have not been satisfied with the door or the installation quality so we chose this outfit because they specialized in doors and were highly rated on Angie's List. Chuck came out to do the measuring. We ordered the doors, and they arrived in the amount of time they'd been promised. Brian, our installer, did a great job with the trim work, the door install, the threshold and hardware. Because we have an old house, we were warned to expect a couple issues (like lead paint that had been used when the home was first build) but they were able to overcome them or take steps to correct the problems. I would use them again in a heart-beat.

+ -1 moreAfter looking as several fiberglass doors for my southern exposure front door, I saw the Jeldwen Craftsman line at The Door Store. The quality is far superior to the others I looked at, to he point where I went much higher than my planned budget, but it was worth it - you'd have to look very closely to realize it's not wood, and that was not true of the other doors I looked at. There were some initial issues with the installation, but the staff were very responsive and Jack, the Service Manager, came out personally to take care of things. I could not be happier with the finished product!

+ -1 moreThis was a very smooth process, from having the storm door measured, dropping by the store to place the order, and having the new door installed. After finding the company on Angie's List, we called the store and talked with a friendly salesman who helped us set up an in-house appointment. He came to our home the next day to take measurements and go over the different options. We were not pressured to make an immediate decision but we knew which door we wanted. We dropped in the store location that night to place the order and a few weeks later the door arrived and installation was scheduled. There was only one small hiccup with the installation -- the bottom piece of trim/kickplate overhang the outside of the door just a little bit. To be on the safe side I wanted to have this extra material removed since it contained a sharp edge. The store was very responsive and sent someone out right away to remedy the situation. We were very satisfied and feel confident that if a service issue were to ever come up with the storm door we can count on The Door Store. We'll be sure to visit them again when shopping for windows or doors.

+ -1 moreIt is steel with steel frame that was custom sized. Took about 8 weeks to get it and I didn't get my first two design styles I couldn't get and ended up with no choice in style but it works. A little pricey considering it's the most basic style door compared to what I originally ordered.

Description of Work: We got a quote for a fiberglass entry door with an extended jamb and some outdoor moulding. We havent had it done yet just because we are waiting to free up the cash, but the response was excellent and we felt that the quote was honest and reasonable.

+ -1 moreIt was okay. One door was fabulous and one was okay. Two or three of the sales people but then I went there for my mom and the guy just wasn't as good. He was just not wonderful. The doors we got were expensive. They had a nice selection and everything else. For my mother's patio door, they were wonderful from start to finish.

+ -1 moreThe design phase went well. David came to the house and made the measurements. We decided to have the door stained by the manufacturer. David took a piece of trim from the door, and provided that to the manufacturer. David did not like the original stain mix that the company came up with, and asked me to come into the shop to also provide an opinion. I agreed that this original stain match was not good. David then asked them to try again to match the trim color. The second time was the charm; the stain matched the original trim of the door and as such matched the trim in the house. The door was delivered and installed. We are very satisfied with the end product.
Description of Work: We worked with David from The Door Store to design a beautiful, very functional basement door for us. The basement door is adjacent to our foyer. We needed to have a louvered door in order to permit better air flow between the floors. David worked with us to design a louvered (bottom) door with beautiful beveled glass in the top section. It really stands out in our foyer.

+ -1 moreWe asked if it was possible to get the door by Easter and they did their best to prep the door upon receipt from the factory. We had it before Easter. The Voss brothers came out and installed the door in a very professional manner and detail. I asked to save my old storm door for a family member and they carefully removed it and all the hardware putting it in my garage. The team was great to work with from the selection process through to the installation. The kept us informed throughout the process.
Description of Work: The Voss team sold and professionally installed a beautiful Therma-Tru fiberglass door system in our front entry. The team pre-stained the door, side lights and frame to match our home. They removed the old original door and storm door, and installed this new door and side lights in a way that looks like it was always there.

+ -1 moreThere were 3 things that I feel should not have happened while dealing with this company. #1 is that I told them I needed these doors ASAP since the estimate was done December 1st and it was getting cold fast and the old doors in the house we just moved into were very drafty & had no storm door. You could literally slip mail & see sunlight through the crack of the old door on the side. That's how drafty the old doors were. Immediately AFTER I hand him a check for half the total, Then he tells me it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get the doors in. I may have gone with another company had I known it would take that long. #2 is that it didn't take 4 to 6 weeks. I had to call Them at the end of the 7th week and ask about my doors. After calling them several more times, I finally got them to come out on the 8th week to install them. #3 is that I feel they should have informed me on how difficult it would be to get a key into the back entry door due to lack of space. On back storm door they installed, the hinge is on the opposite side of the entry door (which I, of course, knew already) but with the new door they installed, it is now almost impossible to fit a key in the entry door due to lack of space, even if the storm door is all the way open. This seems like the kind of thing they should have known and told me beforehand.

+ -1 moreI went to The Door Store after reading feedback on this company on Angie's List. Unfortunately, my experience was not totally positive. After the measure, pricing and contract/deposit, I was told about two months to delivery. When 2 months passed, I was the one who had to call and ask if the doors were in...and then at 3 months I had to call again and ask when they would be installed. Communication with the customer clearly not all that important. Then they give you this scare on the door handles. Although I was only getting dummy handles, both salespeople gave me the scare that if I didn't order the hardware from them, the install person might not be able to install and they would not guarantee that work. That applied even if you ordered the same type/mfr that they sell, but through Lowes. So I bought the hardware from them, and then they asked for a check for that purchase. As relates to price, I overpaid for my pine clear glass doors and of course they added the sales tax to the large amount and cite a $stipend as install cost. I found this website after the contract was made, so I would offer checking out 'base' pricing for Lemieux interior doors at this website before going to the Door Store www.cmwindowsanddoors.com From my perspective, the Door Store's attitude was one where the customer is lucky that they will do business with you. After spending $4300 I didn't even get a VM message to ask if I was satisfied. All that said, the shining star was the install. The installer was very nice and did a wonderful job. So if your goal is a good install at any cost, the Door Store is a good choice??.otherwise I would suggest shopping around for a company with more competitive pricing and an appreciation for your business. .

+ -1 moreThe instillation went great 1 man came out he did all the work including framing we had to replace all the old door frame with new 2 inch thick stock,as these steel doors are very heavy. It took him about 2 and half hours cutting and fitting the new frame for the door, he also installed a new doorbell,he could have used another helper to lift that door as it weights about 300 LBS, but he did it by himself. When he was finished he made a few adjustments on the door closure,showed us how to use the new deadbolt locks on the door handed us the keys. Cleaned up and left we are very happy with the new door and the fact that it has a mail slot in the door makes my elderly parents happy that they don't have to go outside anymore to get the mail. Do's and Don'ts Even though both of these contractors came from Angies list and both were very highly rated,it helps to ask questions and get more than one quote so you can compare costs with other contractors. Also when a contractor is putting his hand out and wants all the money up front before the job is even started,run run like h*** and find another contractor! Though we didn't give EverGreen Door a dime we consider ourselves lucky,because we hadn't had a chance to get to the bank to get the money, or we would probably still be waiting for them to install the door.
Description of Work: We wanted to replace our storm door which was broken, with a heavy steel security door we know these doors are expensive,so we checked around at a few of the big box stores there doors were cheaper,but we have also had bad experiences with contractors from the large chain stores. So that was out we kept looking and found a contractor in Evergreen Park we went to the store the people seemed very nice we talked for a while ,and picked out the style of door we wanted because they are custom made doors the contractor has to come out and take measurements. So about a week later the contractor comes out takes the measurements,we had already removed some of the old rotted casing from the door which we would have had to replace anyway.So he gives us a written quote which we thought was high but agreed to, so we set up a time and date for the instillation which was about 4 weeks because the door has to be custom made. There was no talk of down payment we were told to just drop buy the office with a check within the next week. We assume now they wanted the full amount even before the door was ordered,well about a week went by and they called,i wasn't home but my father was and he told me what they said, they didn't ask they demanded more money, before any work was even done. I hit the roof! I called and couldn't get a hold of the salesmen in fact no one in the office seemed to know what was going on,or where anybody was, so i left a message which was not returned. I sent back an Email and told them that when i hire a contractor and you give me a written contract with price of the job, you are going to stick to that quote. No one calls my house and demands more money form me for a job already priced out. Because of that little stunt Evergreen Door and Window didn't get the job. We searched around and found a place in Lombard called the Door Store they came out quoted us a price set up a date to install the door and it was done on time,and at least $400 cheaper than EverGreen Door.

+ -1 moreWe spent about $6000 with them. They were very professional in their installation. They took care of all the details. The doors are working really well still two years later. We had used them for a storm door 10 years before that and everything is still working great on that one and so that is why we went back to them. They were very good, but they were pricey at the same time, but I think you get what you pay for. A number of our friends have used them and have been very happy with them because of our recommendation.

+ -1 moreShortly after we had the door installed, we had a problem with the lockset. Someone from the store came out right away and the problem was a faulty lockset and covered by warranty. There was no cost to us to fix this. There are other places that charge less, but the showroom, selection and service set The Door Store apart.

+ -1 moreFrom beginning to end, we were happy with our experience with the Door Store. The showroom had plenty to look at and compare, and our salesman was obviously experienced and knowledgeable. We scheduled a visit for finalizing an estimate and measurements. It was a several week wait, but the install took place this past Monday. Two installers arrived on time and went right to work. One worked on the front doors and one on the back doors. They were both very pleasant and professional and worked steadily until all was done. We couldn't be more pleased with both the look and substance of our new doors. Very glad we did this and found out we didn't have any insulation around the back door at all, plus, the installer reactivated the back door bell! At some point in the past, someone had covered the wires, and since they go down to the "studs", the installer asked if we wanted the door bell installed again. Nice extra plus to the experience. We were sure from previous Angie's List reviews that this was a good choice for us and it was!
