I have used Service Express (formally Unique Indoor Comfort) for many years for heating, air conditioning, new construction installation and service. I have baseboard hot water heat so require a separate air conditioning system. Their knowledge and expertise is unparalleled in the HVAC industry with any type of boiler/hot water or forced air heat or cooling. They offer a very reasonable service contract where, at a minimum, they check and clean the systems twice a year to keep the systems in proper working condition. This also comes with priority on service calls. On a recent return from vacation, I discovered we had no heat or hot water. I called for service and within one hour a service technician was there...not during normal working hours. Within a couple hours, the problem was diagnosed and repaired with a part from his well-stocked service truck. In addition, the over $600 part and the service call were COVERED under my service contract. A service contract is a very valuable item to have to keep the systems running well for maximum heat and cooling comfort as well as keeping out of pocket repair costs at a minimum. I have recommended them without hesitation for home and commercial HVAC issues and they have always performed above and beyond expectations.

They were great. On time, friendly, professional, and did excellent work. The costs were exactly as they predicted with no surprises. I used them the first time because of a deal to check and clean my boiler. I am new to my house. They thoroughly checked the boiler, found out that the pilot light wasn't on and fixed that, cleaned all the elements, cleaned the area and pipes around the boiler too. They also took time to explain and program the thermostat. I used them a second time to replace corroded piping. I would absolutely use them again. In fact, I wouldn't think of using anyone else.

This year, I decided to undertake a major project: adding central A/C to my condo. I knew it was not going to be an easy project in a 100+ year old building. I reached out to a number of A/C companies, and the responses I got were disappointing: they either flat-out said they did not do those kind of projects or, if they visited the unit, seemed unenthusiastic about having to undertake such a project. Then, a colleague who also had her home (an old house) upgraded with central A/C recommended that I check out Unique Indoor Comfort. They turned out to be the only ones who approached the project with a "can do" attitude. On his first visit, Tony was exceptionally thorough, taking measurements of various locations around the unit, showing him the electrical panels, the access to the roof, etc. I decided to move forward with them, and I am extremely satisfied with the work they did. The installation itself was done over the course of five and a half days. Their installation crew was very professional and courteous, and clearly knew what they were doing. In a few cases where the project had to deviate from the original plan (e.g., because they discovered some of the tubing could not be run through the location they had planned), they always made sure to run these changes through me and present me with various options. The system they installed was the Unico System, a small-duct, high-velocity system. This means they don't have to run large bulky metal ducts, but rather tubes that are only a few inches in diameter. In my unit, it was not possible to run all the tubes behind the walls or inside the ceiling but, even so, I was very pleasantly surprised at how little the system and the tubes impacted the look of my apartment. Basically, they managed to keep the exposed tubes to the private areas of the apartment (i.e., the rooms that only I am likely to be in, like my bedroom or the kitchen) and even those exposed tubes are easily covered up with a soffit. The living room, den, and other rooms have no exposed tubing, and just have some discrete vents that are barely noticeable. It's been nearly a month since the system was installed, and I am happy to be writing this review from a chilled apartment, and definitely glad I went with Unique Indoor Comfort. If you're looking to retrofit an old apartment or old house with A/C, I strongly recommend you check out Unique Indoor Comfort.

So we had an issue with our hot water heater and contacted Unique Indoor comfort for availability, on the phone we received all the details of what is involved if the unit needed replacement and if it was only the thermalcouple price. I then told the operator we would call back if we needed further assistance, what happens? They send a plumber to our house anyway! We were away from the phone but when we came back 4 hours later had nothing less than a half dozen calls asking if we still needed them even after sending out a rep to our house that left a bill on our gate! We are filing a complaint with the BBB and leaving a review for Yelp. Be careful when contacting and ensure the phone rep actually listens. I actually received a bill in the mail as well for the service call that wasn't ordered. Awful.

Customer called at 10:30am to schedule an appointment because she had a problem with her hot water tank. Customer was quoted our pricing for the service call. She accepted our fees. We were able to give her same day service. We inform all customers that “we must have phone verification that someone is home in order to send the technician” and confirm every service appointment before dispatching the technicians to their service calls. It costs the company money to travel to the customer’s house. Per our policy, once a call is confirmed, we dispatch the technician to the customer’s home, and the customer is responsible to pay for the service call. We called the customer, she answered and told us it was okay to send the technician. To reiterate, we will not send the technician unless the call is confirmed. Our technician arrived at the customer’s home and the customer would not answer the door. The customer told the technician to leave, as they already had the issue fixed. As per our policy, the technician left an invoice for the service call charge. Once again, we never send a technician to a customer’s home if we have not verbally spoken to the customer first.

They went from bad to worse. Tony did not provide an estimate when he said he would. I had to email him and ask for an estimate. The estimates did not compare in completeness compared to other providers, e.g., number of supply outlets needed. Price was reasonable but high. This is a big project costing between $40,000 and $50,000 so information and education is important. Tony seemed more interested in sales and financing options than a thorough estimate of the project. After I decided to go with another provider, I sent Tony and email stating that I had done so. At that point he mentioned a discount he had previously forgotten to mention in rambling email He wanted to talk to me but I had already signed a contract with another provider so I did not contact him. At that point I did not have a high opinion of the provider but they were not a big concern. I posted a somewhat negative review at the request of Angies list. They called me and the owner/manger wanted to meet with me for some reason, I assume to maintain better customer relations. I thought that spoke highly of them. I scheduled an appointment with them for Jan 22, 2015, at 2:30 p.m at their request and at a time convenient for them. At 2:15 p.m. Michelle called and said he could not come because he got "held up at a meeting" and asked if I could reschedule. Are they kidding? This is totally unprofessional. They have wasted my time and I am hoping for an apology from them. My grandson had a geography bee at school that he wanted me to come to today but I told him I had a prior appointment that I did not think I should cancel at the last minute. To add to this scenario, they had originally scheduled an appointment for January 22 in the morning but had called to changed the appointment to 2:30 because of a conflict. I accommodated this request. When the owner/manager called to apologize I stated that I was very displeased with him not showing up and cancelling at the last minute. This is a summary of our conversation. I stated that I thought this reflected badly on their business and was related to the original reason for me not hiring them - they did not seem to be able to keep their commitments. He said that all he could do was apologize and I reminded him that he was the one who had requested the meeting, not me, and that he was very inconsiderate to not show up and cancel at the last minute. I felt that his apology was very superficial. He stated that his meeting was very important because there were people from out of town. I stated that he should have kept his appointment with me because he requested it, not me. He stated that thing "things come up" and I stated that he evidently did not know how to organize his business to keep his commitments. At that point he said basically that I had no "common sense." At that point the conversation was over. I am wondering who is lacking common sense - him or me. After all, he repeatedly requested this appointment and I was accommodating him the entire time and then he cancels at the last minute! He obviously did not anticipate possible conflicts or think that my time was of any value. He seemed to think that I should just accept his apology and not express my views.

Our sales associates are instructed to give the estimates in a presentation. All information is given to the customer at that time. Have used Unique for 10+ years. In general, they were OK. Until they installed a brand new air conditioning unit in 2011. Three years later, the unit developed a leak. Twice this summer, I paid them for the privilege of attempting to fix a unit already under warranty. Over the past several months, twice I left messages with the women answering the phone, asking for the owner to call me to discuss enacting the warranty to replace the item, or to actually fix it. Received no calls back. Left two messages, a voicemail and a request with a reception person for the owner Steve to return my call. One week has passed and the Steve owner has not responded. The only reason that I have to stick with Unique is that, well, I have to stick with them. If the owner has no regard for returning a call from a customer of 10 years, that speaks volumes.

First, the record needs to be corrected regarding his warranty, the warranty we have with [member name removed] signed by him clearly states that he has a 5 year warranty on his outdoor & indoor equipment only. He did have a 1 year parts and labor warranty, which expired July 2012. Also, we started servicing him in June 2007, we have not serviced him 10+ years. The service provided this summer (2014) was in response to a no cooling call which was after normal hours, emergency service. The technician found his indoor unit was frozen and completely iced up. When this happens, the unit needs to be thawed before it can be worked on to determine the reason. Customer agreed to have us come back out to determine the cause once the unit has been defrosted. We agreed to come back after hours again to accommodate his schedule. We came back and found the system to be short of refrigerant, we added refrigerant necessary for his unit to operate properly and suggested additional work to be done which the technician felt needed, he declined. To recap, we do not have a parts and labor warranty for 10 years. Also, his unit is not and was not under any service warranty, as he states. Our records show that we received a call from [member name removed] with no reason, stated he just wants to talk to management. The office manager returned his call to inquire what he wanted, his response was he did not want to speak to a manager, he wanted to speak to Steve, the owner. The office manager told [member name removed] that the owner was out of town and that she could help him and he said he only wants to speak to Steve, the owner. [member name removed] should read his agreement and not make false and improper statements like "10+ years of service" and "10 year service warranty". It is a pleasure to serve our clients and this service is always best when served during regular working hours. I don't feel we have been treated fairly. A refrigerant leak can happen in any part of the system and we should not be held accountable once the warranty expires.

My only complaint is that Technician ignored and did not complete the rest of the Maintenance described by Crown Aruba http://www.crownboiler.com/manuals/content/All_Models/Aruba%20(ABF-SPD,%20ABF-EID).pdf He did not complete the steps after "remove burners , pilot, and vent pipe" in the section Cleaning your Boiler and Burners of the manual sited above. I've had this unit cleaned in previous years where the Technician did all the required maintenance at approximately the same cost or lower.
Description of Work: Removed and vacuumed 3 main burners of my Crown Aruba Gas Fired Model ABF-EIB. Technician found a defective spark cable and I authorized a replacement to be installed. I agree the cable was needing replacement and glad the Technician found a problem that may have affected my boiler performance during the winter season.
