Mendel Plumbing and Heating

I was very pleased with the service I received from Mendel. I found water on the basement floor around the hot water heater and ejector pump and did not know which unit the leak was coming from. When I called Mendel they had a plumber come out that afternoon. The plumber (Eric) did not think the problem was the hot water heater. He felt the problem was with the ejector pump. He gave me prices to replace the ejector pump (which was double what I could do myself). However, the hot water heater was 9 years old and I decided to replace it now instead of later. While I felt I could replace the ejector pump myself, I did not feel I could handle the hot water heater. So, I told Eric to replace the tank, which he did that afternoon and hauled my old unit away. I felt Eric was very honest with me regarding the cost for both units and gave me several options including not replacing anything.

After he left, I felt I had a much more concrete understanding of all the plumbing throughout my entire home. He was very thorough in his inspection and he helped to explain to me everything I could do on my end to prevent any of these issues. I have not had any work done yet, but he gave us a list of prices and we definitely plan to call him when we are ready to start the project.

They were very reliable and they are really good. A little higher than normal but they do excellent work.

IT WILL BE DONE THIS FRIDAY. MENDEL IS THE ONLY PLUMBER WE EVER CALL. THEY HAVE INSTALLED A GAS LINE TO AN OUTSIDE GENERATOR, SERVICED FURNACE AND AIR, AND GENERAL PLUMBING WORK AS CALLED FOR.

They were very thorough and I have used them many times in the past. They do a good job for us.

They respect your property .They do what they have to do .They tidy up the place and dispose the left over. They are highly priced.

I had an appointment scheduled with a time window of 8am to 12pm. I got a call from the office at 11:55pm letting me know that they were running late. The technician showed up at my home around 2pm. This was not an issue for me since I was lucky to be home all day- If I had taken just a few hours off work to be home it could have been. I was quoted a price of $362 to replace the leaking T&P valve on my Mendel installed water heater. While I thought the cost was high at the time I was already in it for the $89 diagnostic fee. I also thought the part might be expensive or take a while to install thus justifying the cost. The actual time to install the part was under 10 minutes, the tech was at my home for about 30 minutes total, travel time to and from my home to their shop is about 30 minutes, and the cost of the part is $25. The technician was very friendly and efficient. The work was done in a professional manner. Afterwards I sent an e-mail to Mendel to let them know I thought the price charged for the work done was excessive. I was contacted by Scott at their office and he very politely explained to me their pricing and offered to provide me with an account credit for future repairs. While I still believe the charge was too high for the time and materials involved in the job I appreciate the time Scott took to address my concerns. Shows that Mendel stands by their name.

The service technician was on time and very professional. He gave me a rundown of what was wrong with the furnace and offered a quote to repair the unit. After getting the quote to repair ($1,700), I asked if they could provide a quote for replacement. He called his office and had an estimator come out, which all happened within 30 minutes. That part was great. However, the quote given for replacement was significantly higher than other companies. We ended up scheduling other companies to come and give an estimate for replacement. We ultimately purchased a new furnace from a competitor. We paid our invoice of $89 for the time the technician spent looking at the unit.

It went well. They are very professional and they are always on time.

the young man who arrived on time said he was a real Mendel, a part of the family. He was pleasant and courteous. He said the reason the pilot went out was because of water dripping from a pipe above the water heater. The best solution, in his opinion, was to replace the water heater, the pipes and fittings leading to it, and it could be done right now, same day, same time, if I just said yes to his proprosal of $1,240 base price. he listed of number of things that could likely go wrong and there would additional charges for all of those repairs. please note, i am 67 years old and this price reflected a senior discount. if i was younger, the price would be higher. i thanked him for his time, paid the $89 service visit fee and sent him on his way. i didn't understand how the drip above could cause the extinguishing of the pilot lite 5 feet below and on the other side of the heater. but i called my handyman and had him fix the leak... it cost me $70 including parts. all has been working just fine. i did not need a new water heater! i felt some pressure from the young man but did not agree to his quick, expensive solution. i love my handyman!!!

They have come out a couple of times. It was good. I signed up with them for the whole house service of the heating, air conditioning and plumbing. They had a whole list of things that we could check off that they would take care of when we sign up for it. They had some monthly charges and some discounts for the services that we choose. They were friendly and professional. They answered questions if I had any questions. They worked on the problems that needed to be taken care of. They do carpentry and remodeling as well. It is kind of everything under one roof situation. I don’t what other people charge. The quality of work was excellent. They came out within a day, very soon.

I've used them for my AC & Furnace inspection/cleaning the last 3 years and will continue to do so. They do a great job and have reasonable prices.

Call made to Mendel to repair air conditioner that was not not operating. The technician checked the unit and determined that a blown system fuse needed to be replaced, however, he could not determine why the fuse had blown. The price was excessive for 75 minutes of service. Three weeks after the repair, the same problem occurred. This time we called a different HVAC company and they were able to determine that a piece of low voltage wiring was shorting out causing the fuse to blow. They made the permanent repair at half the price Mendel charged.

Very responsive and good communicate. He explained everything in advance just tried to point us in the right direction. He was very clean with all of his work. We are very happy with his service.

I thought they were expensive. They quoted me a price, i did not have a choice, i had to get water. The service was good and the guy was nice.

I called Mendel to have a hot water heater repaired. They told me that they preferred to do an in person quote. The quote would be provided for free. The water tank was eight years old, which is the typical life expectancy for water tanks in the area and it was leaking water. Mendel gave me a choice of replacing the hot water tank or repairing the tank. He told me that I could expect to get another year out of the hot water tank maybe a bit more. I ended up doing the repair, things worked out just about how Mendel predicted. I got an extra year out of the tank.

I got him through Angie's List. When I was done with him, I felt like I got ripped off. He gave me an estimate for four hours of work and then he finished it in two hours. The quality of the work was fine but nothing stood out about him. I did not have any issues that he had to respond to but I would not use him again in the future because he was too expensive.

Late in the evening of July 3, we discovered our water heater was leaking when there was no hot water for a shower. We called Mendel approximately 10 pm and received a call back within 30 minutes. After explaining our situation, the person on the phone was thoughtful to confirm that we turned off the water, turned off the gas for the pilot light, and drained the tank. Unfortunately, since the next day was a holiday (July 4) we would not be able to receive service until July 5. With company visiting for a July 4 BBQ, it was a bit of a challenge to not have hot water (and no water pressure in the shower) but we managed. We were told we would receive a call on Saturday morning to confirm. We received a call the morning of July 5 with a time window and told the name of the repairman who would be replacing our water heater. We had hoped for an earlier start time, but were just grateful someone was coming to fix it. The individual was polite, professional, and explained everything thoroughly. He was very neat and cleaned up the workspace. Our water heater was only 7 years old, and we have a water softener, so we were surprised it rusted out and leaked after only 7 years. He offered tips on how to prolong the life of a water heater which was helpful. We were pleased with their work and would recommend to others as well as use again. Cannot comment about the price since we just went with the first Angie's List provider to call us back. Our only complaint, though very small, was he didn't wear shoe covers in the house but that is a minor issue of expectation.

My basement had some standing water so I called a few plumbers that morning and Mendel was able to send a truck out within four hours. I was so glad. When they arrived I was told it would cost $302.00 for the first hour and $94.00 every fifteen minutes there after. Unable to use my plumbing I agreed to the terms. The main sewer was rodded and free of debris very quickly but then their rodding tool broke in the sewer line and they had to call for a retriever. I should not have been charged for this down time and the tool retrieval time. The two men were polite and did a good job. That's not the reason for this review. The way that the $94.00 charge per every fifteen minutes was implemented is unreasonable! Mendel also charges for their travel time, called a port to port fee, so as soon as they start traveling to your location you are being billed. Between the commute time and down time and their equipment repair time, I feel I was overcharged $376.00.

I have used Mendel's many times over the years... They continue to provide excellent service whether it is for plumbing, electrical or heat/AC. They are dependable and available when needed.

They were excellent and we like them very much.

It went good, they are priced higher than competitors, but it was an emergency so it's hard to complain.

Worked on our dryer vent. We use Mendel each time we need a service: plumbing or electrical. We never use anyone else. They are a bit higher in price than others but we think their service is worth it.

They where prompt and responsive to what I wanted to do. Price was fair for the work being done. Unfortunately, do to other circumstances, we elected not to go ahead with the work. Had we gone ahead, I would have definitely used them.
