Mendel Plumbing and Heating

We are familiar with them. We think all plumbing is too expensive. The quality and promptness was good.

Everything went well. The workers were on-time and professional. Mendel agreed to payment terms of 50% up front and final payment for work completed upon successful city inspection (instead of final payment at time of work completion). There were no issues during the rough-in inspection or the final inspection, so everything worked out great. Plumbing the final connections for the sink and disposal was pretty tight, but they did a professional looking job and there were no leaks. The cost seemed high to me, but it was in line with other quotes I received. I'm very happy with their work and would recommend them.

I wanted to take advantage of the available tax credits in 2010 for a new furnace and A/C and get more efficient equipment. Mendel was accomodating with their schedule to get the new unit installed by the end of the year. Their quote was a bit on the high side, but they had some additional rebates that brought the final cost down a bit. We installed a high efficiency Bryant furnace and A/C. The furnace is whisper quiet and keeps the house at a steady temperature. The humidifier makes more noise than the furnace. So while I can't hear the furnace when the heat is on, I can tell when the humidifier is running. I have not tried the A/C yet, and Mendel needs to come back out in the spring to check the refrigerant level before I fire it up. So I don't have any feedback on the A/C unit to report. When they come back out, I'll need them to remove the thermostat so I can patch the wall. The new thermostat is a different size and it doesn't cover the exhisting hole in the wall (and it is virtually impossible to remove yourself). The install took at least 10 hours, which was longer than I expected, but about average according to the installers. Overall, I'm very happy with the new furnace and its installation and I don't anticipate any issues with the A/C. I'm looking forward to reduced utility bills and years of trouble free operation.

During an annual inspection of my furnace there were some rings that had popped making it "necessary to replace my furnace". Mendal turned off the furnace and the gas telling me it was unsafe to keep it on. I checked with another vendor that specialized in my type of furnace who told me it was something that happened often with this furnace and it was covered under warranty. I gave the work to the second vendor who replaced the part for about 1/4 of what it would have cost to replace the entire furnace. They also did a thorough check to make sure there was no carbon monoxide leakage. I felt pressure from Mendel to replace the entire unit and that it was dangerous to keep it running without replacement. The technician made me very uncomfortable.

I contacted the manufacturer of the water heater and asked for recommendations of other qualified service representatives in the area. The plumbing and heating contractor (recommended by the manufacturer) told me to drain the water heater prior to their arrival to minimize the total time. After it was all over, it took about 2.5 hours and cost a little over $300 to install the replacement water heater. This was less than half what Mendel Plumbing & Heating quoted the job for.

The two service technicians were very professional and thorough. They spent extra time during and after the installation to explain the functioning of the evolution system and digital thermostat, as well as all maintenance such as filter changing, and patiently answered all of our questions. They described all parts of the warranty and demonstrated how the system works and pointed out all key parts of both the air conditioner and furnace, describing the high efficiency aspects compared to the old system. They placed tarps in the living spaces and wore "slippers" in the living areas. Everything was completely cleaned before they left. Both technicians were very friendly, helpful and professional. We are very satisfied with the service and the new HVAC system.

Our A/C was not cooling due to a leak. The Mendel representative came out that day. After a brief check of the A/C, he gave three options - fill with coolant, do a leak test or buy a new system. He said our system was cheap and pushed hard to get us to buy not only a new A/C but also a new furnace.

A few things. 1) Mendel won't quote until they come out for an inspection (free). I can understand this for many services, but I think that some services are so standard, they they should be able to give some indication of price. 2) The plumber that was sent out to replace the hose faucet in my garage that was leaking took about 3 times as long and had to patch 3 different leaks in his soldering, which also ended up resulting in several additional cuts and connectors in the copper pipe. 3) It's had to comment on price, since I didn't have multiple estimates, but $300 seems high to me for what should be about 1 hour of work and ~$50 in parts. Disappointing, would not use again. In fairness, the result was good and has held up well over the past year.

We've used Mendel Plumbing several times. They are trustworthy and dependable. Their service reps seem to know what they are doing and always do an efficient job. The outdoor faucet wasn't working. The tech came out, diagnosed the situation, turned off the water in the house, replaced the faucet and was gone in about 1 hr. Great job, but not the cheapest on the block.

Heating system broke 1 week after a total system review. We paid for expedited service and the parts came late.

I like to do business with local people and they have a very obvious presence in our area and I see their trucks often. They have always been very thorough and explain things well. Their pricing is reasonable and the quality of their service is good.

The bid included removing a sink. The plumber would not do it and we got into an argument over it. Very stressful.

They have done complete bathrooms, air conditioner and furnace. They also have an electric department. I have an energy service agreement for which I pay $250 a year. They service my air conditioner and furnace. They are slightly expensive.

The man that came out to the house was great. He even quoted us a price for fixing a plumbing issue in our basement. Would highly recommend this company.

I called them up and they came on time. They were very helpful with suggestions. They are very professional and do good work.

I was concerned about how our second floor was really getting warm so he checked the duct work and everything and gave me some suggestions. He said that I should close the door at the top of the floor and run the furnace fan and that should take care of the problem. He also checked another fan that I thought was not working, it was in a room on the second floor with a steep roof but he went up there and took a look at it, turns out that it was working. He went above and beyond the call of duty to look at that fan.

This is a tough one for me to do. I've had Mendel out more than once in the past to do some plumbing and tile work. This time, I made an appointment to get an estimate for some basement work. I was rescheduled three times, and then the carpenter never showed. I never received a follow-up call, either. Very disappointing.

They removed the old one and then put the new one. It’s a sump battery back up system. They were good. They came the same day I called them. I called them at 3am and they sent somebody the same day. They told me that I don’t have to do any maintenance for it and it would last for 3 years. I did not know this. The person who came was knowledgeable. They were a little expensive.

We completely remodeled our main floor bathroom, and needed some help on the tile work. Seth(on of their carpenters)came out one day and gave me advice about the project-laying out the guidelines and giving suggestions to a novice tiler. After I did the floors myself, I realized that the walls were going to be much too hard for me, so I called Mendel back. They sent Seth back on short notice, and he completed the entire job in one 8-hour day. The tiles look great still(it's over a year later)and we could not be happier. They're a little pricey, but it's worth it.

They were intent on doing a very good job. They did what they were supposed to. I don t have anything to say bad about them except for the fact they were expensive.

Awesome. No fuss, no mess, and I learned some things about electricity.

They fixed it but when they left it kept turning back on. They had to come back out and fix it again. It cost me a load of money. They kept trying to sell me a new furnace.

They are professional and their workers are personable. They make an effort to keep your place clean and explain things. I don't remember if I called around for prices, they are probably on the high side, but I like their work. I will continue to use them in the future.

The guy who did the estimate ran down other companies and equipment. They were way overpriced and wanted you to sign up for a $220 annual fee that would get you 10% discount. They were still way overpriced even with the discount. I had two other estimates that were from $1300-$1500 less. I also choose one of those two that gives a 15 year parts and labor warranty. The work will be completed tomorrow. I'll report on that company after the work is completed.

They are extremely professional. They come when they say they are going to come. They gave me an estimate on what it would be to replace the water heater before they did any work. When my water heater broke, I called and they were here the same day. They are great in emergencies.
