Description of Work: They came to investigate a leak under the kitchen sink and a dishwasher that was not draining. They rodded the waste line and replaced one trap that had a hole. They looked at the other trap under the garbage disposal (which was the same age) and suggested replacing it too, so I wouldn't have another service call. I have used MD Plumbing several times over the last few years for plumbing jobs at both my own home and a rental property. I find their prices reasonable and their employees skilled and professional. Most of all, I appreciate that they a good job cleaning up after they are done. Some plumbers I've used in the past left a mess for me to clean up. It may take a few extra minutes, but it is worth it to me.

Description of Work: Performed annual cleaning of our catch basin, annual vacuuming debris from a storm drain, rodded the internal kitchen drain pipes on one side of the 4 floor building all the way to the catch basin to remove an obstruction that caused water to back up in 3rd floor unit and them in basement unit. (Obstruction had apparently moved to below basement unit by the time we scheduled the call.) M.D. Plumbing came on short notice, as scheduled, and found that the internal kitchen pipes could not be rodded from the roof as is usually the case with 6-flat buildings like ours. We were unable to gain access to upper floor units, so we had them rod from the basement unit to catch basin. They showed us how to check that water flowed freely from upper floor units to catch basin and if it did not, to have them return to complete rodding from top down. They recommended that we rod internal drains every 1 or 2 years to prevent / remove blockages, which we will do. Work was done efficiently and M.D. will take time to explain causes, actions, and make recommendations that we have found over several years to be on target.

Description of Work: 1st visit: Reset toilet; diagnostic sewer video; cut out some balls of roots in sewer. |2nd visit: ($3000) Dug up sewer pipe at front of house and replaced clay pipe where roots were causing problems. Very conscientious about not breaking bluestone walkway or porch- actually tunneled under the porch to get to the problem area. This price was significantly less than a competitor's estimate, and the competitor projected having to dismantle our front porch area and remove bluestone.

Description of Work: Replaced bathroom sink faucet. It turned out that they had to detach the pedestal sink from the wall and replace the drain assembly as well, since the new faucet didn't have a lever to work the drain. It took longer and cost more because of the faucet I had selected. They did a very nice job and cleaned up carefully.

+ -1 moreI CALLED ON A SUNDAY EVENING AND MARK, THE OWNER, ANSWERED THE PHONE. I EXPLAINED THAT WE HAD PURCHASED A HOME WITH MANY PROBLEMS AND NOW WE HAD A STRANGE SEWER GAS ODOR. NORMALLY, NOT A BIG DEAL, BUT WITH A NEWBORN IT POSED A CONCERN. HE MADE IT A POINT TO BE THERE THE NEXT MORNING. ALTHOUGH HE DID A CONSCIENTIOUS JOB ON THE ROUTING, THAT WASN'T THE ISSUE (WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS OR IF ITS EVEN PLUMBING). STILL, I WAS VERY HAPPY AND WOULD USE HIM AGAIN. HE EVEN CLEANED OUT THE BATHROOM DRAIN AS HE NOTICED IT WAS DRAINING SLOW. WE HAD PAID ANOTHER PLUMBER ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE TO DO IT, BUT HE DIDN'T TAKE OUT THE OVERFLOW (MARK DID AND CLEANED IT, IT FLOWS GREAT NOW) NOTE: HE DOES THE WORK WITH THE HELP OF ONE APPRENTICE. BOTH WERE EXTREMELY ENERGETIC, ARTICULATE AND CLEAN. PRICES ARE GREAT AS HE CHARGES $60 AN HOUR FOR HIMSELF AND $30 AN HOUR FOR THE APPRENTICE, MUCH LESS THAN MOST OTHER LICENSED PLUMBERS. WE WILL HIRE HIM FOR OTHER PLUMBING ISSUES.

I WAS PARTICULARLY IMPRESSED BY THE REPAIR OF THE SHUTOFF VALVE UNDER THE SINK. I HAD DISCUSSED THIS WITH OTHER PLUMBERS BEFORE (BOTH OVER THE PHONE AND IN PERSON AT THE HOUSE) AND HAD BEEN TOLD IT WAS A TWO-TRIP JOB, ONE VISIT TO ASSESS THE SITUATION AND DO MEASUREMENTS AND A SECOND VISIT TO BREAK INTO THE WEB OF PIPING TO WHICH THE VALVE WAS ATTACHED, REPLACE THE VALVE, AND RE-ASSEMBLE THE PIPING. THIS COMPANY BROUGHT A REPLACEMENT VALVE WITH THEM BASED ON MY DESCRIPTION OVER THE TELEPHONE, BUT THEN FOUND A WAY TO REPAIR THE EXISTING VALVE IN PLACE (WITHOUT DISTURBING THE PIPING) BY REPLACING A $4 CARTRIDGE.
Description of Work: INSTALLED NEW CARTRIDGE (CUSTOMER-PROVIDED) IN MALFUNCTIONING FOREIGN-MADE KITCHEN SINK FAUCET OF A COMPLEX DESIGN. REPAIRED AN UNDER-SINK SHUTOFF VALVE WITH NON-FUNCTIONING (STRIPPED) HANDLE, AND ADJUSTED POORLY FUNCTIONING LOW-FLUSH TOILET SO IT WOULD PERFORM AS WELL AS A NORMAL FLUSH TOILET.

THEY ASSESSED PROBLEMS QUICKLY, ACCURATELY, MADE REPAIRS THE SAME WAY, AND FOR RATES A GOOD DEAL LOWER THAN THE OTHER PLUMBING FIRMS WE KNOW AND TRUST. THEY PRESENTED INFORMATION TO US CLEARLY AND SHOWED US WHAT THEY DESCRIBED IN COURTEOUS, PROFESSIONAL WAY. WE WILL HAVE THEM HANDLE OUR REGULAR EXTERNAL DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE FROM NOW ON.
Description of Work: WE HAD THEM COME OUT TO ASSESS THE ROOT CAUSE OF A BURST PIPE IN OUR STORAGE ROOM. THEY DID THAT, INSURED THAT THE WATER SPURTING FROM THE PIPE WAS STOPPED. THEY ALSO ASSESSED AN UNRELATED BACKUP/LEAKAGE PROBLEM IN ONE OF THE BUILDING UNITS AND MADE A RECOMMENDATION AND ESTIMATE TO REPAIR. WE CALLED THEM OUT A WEEK LATER TO REPAIR.
