Mr. Charlie Hershey was a pleasure to deal with from the start. My wife and I found him to be honest, helpful in his suggestions, very competent and the main reason we decided to go with Preferred Roofing after reading about the company on Angie's List. The work started as planned, but took a little longer than expected, which did not impact the price quoted. We are very pleased with the end result and would highly recommend Charlie and Preferred and would certainly have them do work for us again. The team of 5 plus Charlie who worked on our house could not have been nicer or more polite and they are all very hard workers. We were so impressed with them that my wife and I decided they all deserved a tip for the great work, which we asked Charlie to pass out to them at the end of the work. Frankly, I don't know how we could be more pleased. Thank you, Charlie, and please say thank you again to your team. If all contractors dealt with their customers honestly like you do and did the quality of work that you and your team do, things would be a lot more pleasant in the world!!

IT WAS GREAT WE CAME HOME TO FIND THEM FINISHING. AND IT LOOKED GREAT.

Mr. Cooper gave me a lots of literature on the roofing shingles and the venting system they would install. Very exhaustive materials which explained everything i need to know. He would always say he was glad to answer any questions I had. I had many questions and he always was patient answering them. Other contractors did not have the new venting system he had, which would thoroughly vent the attic and keep it from getting overheated as it does in the summer. The workers finished the job in two days. They did cover most of the foliage, but they missed a few spots, which they covered up with more cloths. There was not a lot of space to work on, so they had to work on the grass, which got munched down, but it has grown back. Anytime I called Mr. Cooper, he always picked up and graciously and patiently answered any questions or concerns I had. There was some molding that got damaged during the tear off, but Mr. Cooper personally saw to it that it was replaced promptly.

Two layers of previous roofing had to be removed first. That caused the time frame to be longer. They did it quickly and cleaned up well. The noise was loud but I see no way to that quietly.

I can't say enough good things about Steve and his team. They are fantastic!! We highly, highly recommend them. We have a lot of experience with contractors and this was a tremendous experience by any standard. Excellent workmanship, crew was great and really took care, and Steve himself was amazing to deal with -- so responsive, reasonable and committed to making sure the job was done flawlessly. Steve Case is extremely professional! His entire crew was punctual and polite. They worked hard and got the job done in a timely manner. Pricing was very competitive and the job was done extremely well. He did roofing and exterior work on our house. This house needed some love and tender care and his crew did just that. I called for an estimate to do some roof repair. I was asked what needed to be done. Afterwards, I was told they were not taking on new business. If that was true, why ask what I needed to be done? My assumption that if it was a more lucrative job (e.g., new roof installation) they would have wanted to do it.

In a word: Phenomenal I had initially reached out to a roofer who was referred by a friend. After two weeks of being put off by that roofer, still did not have an estimate. At that point, I joined Angie's List late on a Monday night and put out requests for estimates the following morning. Preferred Roofing was at my home the next day and completed an estimate. There were several requirements with respect to the new roof mandated by my homeowner's association and Preferred complied with all of them, which made the approval process with the association very smooth. Because roof is small, the crew doing the work was able to complete the job in one day. They worked steadily throughout the day and had everything cleaned up by 4:30 pm. After they had left, you could not tell they had been there, except for the fact that there was a new roof on top of the house. The gutters were done in a few days later and the installers worked efficiently, cleaning everything up when they were finished. My service rep, Charlie Hershey, was very professional throughout the process. His timelines were accurate and the crews arrived as expected; I did not encounter any surprises. He took care of obtaining the permit and made sure that all regulatory requirements were met. In all, Preferred made the process very easy. Had I gone with the initial roofer, there is no telling what nightmares I might have encountered. Would most definitely rehire Preferred.

They were out there 12 hours a day for 2 days, working so hard. I'm very happy with how it looks. They also replaced a window with a skylight and did the work on the inside of the skylight, which was beautiful work by the carpenter he sent over. I was amazed by the beautiful job he did. They came back and really scrubbed our driveway to remove any stains left by the work. The gutters still need to be put on, which will be done next week. They were here on time and followed up with everything. They were also so amenable to any questions I had and any explanations I needed, and just went so above and beyond. They really did a nice job. They treated us like we had a $2-million home, not just our middle-class one, which speaks to their integrity.

I discovered that the shingles on part of my roof had cracked and I had a real potential for a leak with the next big rain. Called several roofers for an estimate, and Steve was the best. He came out within a day and was easily able to recommend the best approach to solve the problem. His approach saved me a ton of money, and Steve even got his guy to come on a Sunday and do the work so I wouldn't have to worry about the rain that was predicted the next couple of days. His roofer was very professional and did a great job, and the clean-up was perfect. After he was done, he went over the lawn at least three times making sure he'd picked up every scrap of old shingle and nail. Steve is great at communicating and very honest, I'd recommend his company to anyone who needs roofing.

We had an unbelievably positive experience with this company. I called several places to get estimates, and Steve called me back right away -- and scheduled a time to come out and give me an estimate. Other companies said they didn't have to come out -- that they could give us an estimate by looking at our roof on satellite. Right away Steve said that was NOT how he did it -- he didn't want there to be any surprises, for us or them, and I appreciated that. He came out right away -- and got me an estimate once he got back to his office the same day. We had bids from two other companies -- Steve's was a little higher than one, and about the same as the other. But Steve's punctuality and professionalism made it a clear choice. He was responsive to all of my questions, always available by phone, did a great job explaining different options (like putting in a power vent) and encouraged us to take our time with the decisions around the color, etc. His crew was on site early Thursday morning, and they finished the job by Friday afternoon. Steve came out midway to check on progress and assist with getting the insulation in the attic. The crew cleaned up the yard beautifully -- we didn't even know they were there, and there was a HUGE mess during the project -- with four layers of shingles torn off and the chimney. But they did a great job -- start to finish!

Provided assessment of damage and coordinated with our insurer. The estimate was reasonable and they performed the work timely and professionally. The owner dealt with us directly and was pleasant and professional. I would highly recommend Preferred Roofing and Exteriors.

Steve Case and his crew did a great job. They were prompt, responsive, and answered all of our questions. Steve, as owner, is very involved in making certain all of the details are done well. What may sometimes be overlooked is the collateral damage that could be caused by material falling on bushes or flowers as they remove the old roof ... things that those of us who only have a roof done every 25 years may not think of initially. They made certain all of our landscaping went undamaged. They also replaced 3 skylights. I did not score the price above because the did not get competitive bids. I met Steve, trusted that he was going to use high quality material, and do a high quality job. They did not disappoint. We were impressed with the service ... and would recommend them highly.

This was an Angie's list referral. I hadn't done a full reroof inch before so I asked for an education from a roof leak repair co I had used before.Allso an Angie's list referral. I was then able to watch the workers with some knowledge and I was very impressed with the crew that Preferred sent out. They were there early, spent a long day and got the whole house except for the section we knew would need repairs, which they finished the next morning. The house looks great! Price was very competitive. Steve kept us informed of when things would start and followed up afterward. Probably won't need a roofer again, but would highly recommend this group.

I found preferred roofing on Angies List This was my first experience and I was very concern but it went very well because of Steve and his team. Steve is very professional, knowledgeable and helpful. This was an insurance claim and Steve was very understandable and helpful throughout the whole process. If you are interested in getting a quality job and good value for the money spent should contact Steve at preferred roofing. We would highly recommend Preferred Roofing & Exteriors. We believe we received excellent work and a good roof for a fair price.

This company was awesome. I had the insurance company come out first because I did not want to go through the trouble of replacing my roof if it really did not need it. A different contractor had told me I was leaking and then we had tornadoes 3 weekends in a row. Then I had to find a provider to do it. I was apprehensive because I had different roofers knocking on my door trying to get my business. I decided I was not going to go with any of them. I picked a few names off of Angie's list and said a quick prayer. Preferred roofing and exteriors came out and I was sold instantly. I had a very low quality shingle which they upgraded for free. They reviewed the insurance information and agreed with one small adjustment (only a few hundred dollars for an ice dam/shield which was not in the estimate). They scheduled within 2 weeks and were finished within 6 hours. My roof looks very good and they handled all paperwork with my insurance company. I gave them the check the insurance company sent me the day of business and sent them the remainder after the insurance company sent it about 2 weeks later. It was painless and I felt they were completely honest and very hardworking. They did a great job cleaning up and you would never even know they were here. I hope to never need to use them again, but they are definitely on my welcome back list. I have a 1300 sq ft ranch style home.

This is the third roof I have had on our house. Flat roofs are very difficult to install. I searched high and low to find a qualified roofer that could handle our project. The first time I contacted Preferred Roofing was via Angie's list email they responded within minutes. All of my communication with them has had the same response. I call, they answer; I need something, they take care of it; I have questions and they take the time to answer. Rick Cooper was my primary contact that handled all of the details. He took the time to explore our roof and identify issues then he made very practical recommendations that no other installer had even thought of. He then handled all of the details. Everything we discussed was delivered. I highly recommend Preferred Roofing and will not only use them, but will recommend their services to everyone.

It went well. My mother is in an old house and had a lot of patchwork done over the years. They took the whole thing off and saw there were a lot of regulations that had been over looked in the past. We had to pay extra but they got it done right. A pipe busted and they helped me shut it off. He went above and beyond with helping with something that had nothing to do with the roof.

When I realized that my 6,400 square foot roof was in need of replacement, I went to Angie's List to see what roofing contractors in my area had good ratings. On the basis of that research, I selected eight contractors to contact. Although all eight eventually came out to look at the roof and provide me with bids, only one contractor inspected my roof AND my attic. Steve Case of Preferred Roofing and Exteriors indicated that he would only bid on my job after he had inspected the attic for appropriate levels of insulation, adequate ventilation, and any evidence of mold. No other contractor took the time to make this inspection. Satisfied that my attic demonstrated appropriate levels of insulation, good ventilation, and no evidence of mold, Steve inspected the roof, made the necessary measurements, and provided me with a written estimate before he left. During that visit, he answered all my questions completely and honestly, took all the time needed to explain his approach to my roof, and made several excellent suggestions. On the basis of Steve's knowledge, directness, honesty and confidence, I selected Preferred Roofing and Exteriors to do my roof. On the day that Steve indicated work would begin, it did. A crew of eleven men began work at 7:30am, covering my bushes and providing protection for the things around my home. Actual work on the roof began at 8:00am and by 8:45pm my roof had been completely re-shingled including appropriate ice and water shield, synthetic tar paper, and ridge ventilation. In the afternoon, Steve came by to see how the work was progressing and to find out if I had any questions or concerns. The crew was very efficient and hard working. I watched the removal of the old roof and the installation of the new roof and was impressed by the care and craftsmanship demonstrated by every member of the crew. They cleaned up the job site before leaving that night. The next day, Steve came by to inspect the roof. He did so, and also personally made a repair to a cracked fascia board. Even though I thought that the job site was very clean and clear of debris, Steve found a few nails and shingle pieces and had two of his men come back to do more clean up and rerun the magnetic roller over the site. Although we have not yet had a major rain storm, snow storm or ice event, I am confident that my roof will be problem free. If, for any reason, I do experience a concern, I am confident that Steve and his guys will make it right. For price comparison, Steve's bid was not the lowest, nor was it the highest. From the perspective of quality, Steve's crew did an excellent job. The roof is beautiful and well crafted. This work exceeded my expectations. In researching what to do when replacing a roof and selecting a roofing contractor, something became evident to me. As long as you stay with a major company, roofing products of comparable price are generally of comparable quality. What really makes the difference is the professionalism and competence of the people you are working with. Anyone interested in getting a no nonsense, direct, complete and honest estimate of work should contact Steve. Anyone interested in getting a quality job and good value for the money spent should contact Steve. He is an outstanding contractor who will "do it right" the first time.

Preferred was second of two bids I took on roof replacement. Contacted them late afternoon of Thursday July 24, heard back from Steve Case the next day. Set up appointment for first thing Monday the 28th. Steve was right on time with a satellite image of our roof and a completed estimate...sufficiently comparable in scope to first bid but 20% lower in price. He was also able to schedule the work within two weeks where other contractor said it would be 6-8 weeks. I accepted the Preferred bid and a day later received an email from Steve indicating that they had a cancellation and were able to do our roof on Thursday of that same week. Materials were delivered on Wednesday and well before sundown on Thursday the 31st we had ourselves a new roof. Everything about the process, and at least by visual inspection all of the workmanship, more than met my expectations. I'm very pleased and gladly write this review of Preferred.

110 year old house with a 15 year old addition. Shingles which were applied when the addition was done in 1998 turned out to be defective and wore out prematurely, requiring a new roof before it started leaking. I received bids from several reputable roofers. All had excellent ratings with the BBB and Angie's List. Each told me why their product was the best. What set Steve and his company apart was not only a fair price and a highly rated product, but also his responsiveness. In my opinion, if you are going to spend upwards of $10- $15,000 for a job, the contractor needs to be accessible. My biggest complaint with most contractors is the amount of time I have to wait first for the bid, then for the fine tuning of the work to be done, then for the scheduling, then for the job to actually be done. Steve returned my initial call to his company immediately and met with me within the week. He provided a detailed quote within a day and answered every question I posed quickly and thoroughly. I appreciated the attention to detail as he understood my concern for getting the job done right. With all the rain we have had, I expected to have to wait at least 2-3 weeks before they could start. I accepted his bid on a Wednesday, and was pleasantly surprised when he scheduled us immediately. The materials arrived the next day and his crew arrived as promised first thing on Friday morning. They worked until the weather darkened, and then resumed first thing Saturday morning. His crew of 6 were probably the hardest workers I have ever had work on my home in the 25 years we have lived here. My roof is incredibly steep, with lots of peaks and valleys, but they were not daunted. They finished in 2 days, the roof looks fabulous, and they left the yard cleaner than it was when they started. I could not be more pleased with the job they did and would have given Preferred Roofing an A+ had it been an option.

A crew of twelve from Preferred began at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning and worked until 8 p.m. They removed two layers of roofing as well as the underlayment. They removed the insulation and sanded the beams to remove the mold. A ridge vent was built to provide needed air circulation to prevent future mold. New plywood underlayment was added, and new architectural Owens roofing shingles applied. On Sunday, they added new insulation, provided new vents for the two exhaust fans in the bathrooms, and built a cover for the whole house fan. On Monday, they shingled our large shed in the backyard. The area around the house was continuously cleared of debris from the project. The work ethic of the crew was remarkable. We were very pleased with the entire process.

We received four bids for our project, three from Angie's List providers. Two estimators spent less than 15 minutes on-site. Two others spent more than 30 minutes, assessing the job and the various elements relating to it. One of those estimators was Rick Cooper from Preferred Roofing & Exteriors. Rick was very thorough in exploring the aspects of the job, asking many good questions which revealed the extent of his knowledge of the subject. His bid package included examples of roofing materials, warranty info and other items that were helpful in the decision-making process. There was a good degree of variability in the four bids we received. The two lowest bids (from the two firms which spent more time on-site estimating) were very comparable. Both estimators gave us confidence in their knowledge, particularly Rick who quickly diagnosed the number of existing layers. Preferred's quote included a tear-off of up to three layers. The other estimate did not cover all three and would have added cost on a per sq. ft. basis for some tear-off work. Rick also honored an Angie's List coupon which we noted when we contacted the company to invite an estimate. We selected Preferred and the job was scheduled within a few days of contract signing. A complexity of the job (in addition to the pitch of the roof) was the limited access to the roof. Access to the roof required access to neighbors' property on both sides of our home. We were very concerned that neighbors' property be respected during the job and thoroughly cleaned after the project. Materials were delivered a day earlier than expected, which required us to get folks to move cars on our city block to accommodate storage. This was a bit of a hassle but really the only material hiccup for the entire project. The crew came in from a distance (to our northside Chicago home) and never started work before 9am. They worked until dark (literally dark) the first two days of the project. We would have preferred starting a bit earlier and ending earlier but that is a minor point. First day was tear-off of the southside and beginning of new roof on that side. Second day was completing that side, tear-off of northside and plywood on northside. Third day was finishing house roof and tear-off/replace of garage roof. By our accounts, the work was done very well and we are quite happy with the outcome. The crew was respectful and their cleanup was very thorough. Both Rick and the crew were responsive to our minor concerns during the project. After it was done, we asked Rick to come out with a rolling magnate to ensure no nails remained neither in our yard nor our neighbors (young kids). He made a special trip to do this which we greatly appreciate. We would heartily recommend Preferred Roofing & Exteriors for a residential tear-off/replace project. We believe we received excellent work and a good roof on a challenging job for a very fair price.

Steve was very responsive anytime I called. It took a little longer than I wanted to get everything done but there has been a lot of rain and everyone in the area has been having work done after the hail storm so I attribute any delays to the workload I'm sure they have. Overall the work has been very professional and I am happy with the results.
