Preferred Roofing & Exteriors

On Thurs, June 25, 2015, I spoke to Fred and asked to have someone meet me at a house in DesPlaines to give me an estimate on re-building a roof on a back porch and replacing three windows and a door. He told me their company could do the work and he would have Charley call me that afternoon or, at the latest, first thing the next day. I waited till after noon the next day but there was no call from Charley. I called Fred back and he apologized for the delay. Said their computers had been down on Wednesday. (I called on Thursday.) He promised to have Charley call me immediately. A few minutes later, Charley called, and we set up an appointment for Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at 11:00. Tuesday morning at 8:00 I received a call from Charley. He said he was up all night because he had to take his wife to the hospital for an emergency procedure and asked to postpone our appointment. I assured him that his wife was more important. He said the procedure was minor; she might be home later in the day, and he would call me that evening. It's been ten days now, and I never heard from Charley, or Fred, or anyone else in the company. End of story. P.S. I have since found another contractor who came to the house, gave me a bid, and will do the work.

They were fast and efficient and they protected the flowers and bushes around the house while they worked. Made a big mess but cleaned it up when finished. The roof looks great and greatly improves the appearance of the house. All completed within one day as promised. The company rep, Michael Roller, was prompt and courteous, helpful and quite friendly. We would recommend this company to all who need roofing services. A++

The service was superior, they were excellent and I have no complaints. I will be using them again.

They were awesome - had us sold at the free hot stove mittens - the sales guy Mark was very knowledgeable had samples etc. Crew came in did a bang up job - clean up was great - final product looks awesome - their quote was very competitive = Best - and service tops - Dont see how you can beat that combination.

From the initial meeting with sales, through completion - they did an outstanding job. Everyone who we had contact with were hard working - they listened - they did a nice job - and they cleaned up! I've been getting compliments from my neighbors on how nice our roof looks. Very happy. Would recommend them to everyone.

Remodel screen porch. Charlie and Eric removed 14 windows and framed for 7 new windows. Installed the new windows and finished the inside with bead board and trim. The outside finish was vinyl siding with aluminum caps on windows and trim. All the work was flawless. Charlie and Steve are fantastic carpenters, they made it look easy. Eric is an artist at using a brake to fabricate the aluminum caps for windows and trim.Cleanup was complete. This is actually the third job Preferred Roofing and Exteriors has done for us and all three PERFECT.

Prep and clean up was fantastic. Very professional and efficient crew. Minor hick-up with one aspect of job, but the attitude and remedy was perfect. Good outfit that really cares. These folks know what they are doing. Mark Machaj who was our salesman, was there to make sure everything went as planned and he followed up to see that we were happy and that everything was done as promised.

Mark gave excellent customer service from beginning to end. Very thorough in explaining what to expect. Roof and skylights were installed in one day. Mark came by a couple times to make sure things were progressing and he answered all my questions. Two weeks after they finished the roof, we noticed a gutter that had some damage and he immediately answered my email and Steve came out the next day and took care of the problem. Felt the price was very reasonable and the customer service was excellent! We will definitely use this company again!

They were very good and thorough. They gave me samples of the roofing material and were very detailed. I want to hire them, but I need to get my chimney fixed first.

The whole process was A+++. From quick response on the initial bid to follow up questions on the actual work to be done. I am a retired engineer and had some technical questions concerning materials and methods and the people at Preferred Roofing & Exteriors provided me with all the data and answers to make an informed decision on best choices for my roof. The work crew was professional and courteous, the results speak for themselves. If not for a great looking roof you would never know they had been there. Every roofer sells shingles, but service and craftsmanship makes the difference. Preferred Roofing & Exteriors, a keeper.

I would give him an A+++. He was awesome. They did it all in one day. They took all the screws and nails up with the magnetic roller thing so I didn't find one nail afterwards. They came at like 7:30 in the morning, they left at six, my house was completely done. He was very nice. Everybody who was working here was very nice. They worked very hard all day. I had a wonderful experience. The price I found a little steep but they did lots of extra stuff that I can't remember right now but it was definitely reasonable.

We were replacing a 30 year old roof on the second floor. When Mark came to the house to do the estimate he did not just look at the roof. He asked for access to the attic area to check the wood. That is how he found that when our second floor was added both of the bathrooms vented into the attic area. This cause some mold on the wood above the most used bathroom. (We will be getting someone to look into the mold.) He also found a problem with one of the pipes having a loose boot. The other 2 companies we got bids from only looked at the roof and did not request to look at it from the attic area. Once we signed with Preferred Roofing Mark kept in touch so we knew when the crew would be out to do the roof. The day after the supplies were dropped off Chris stopped by to drop off the permit and put the sign in our yard. Original start date was Monday 4/13 but rain delayed it until Tues. The crew showed up a little after 7 am and went straight to work. They finished up about 7:20 pm with the roof. The only time they stopped was for lunch. In the afternoon I noticed that they were also cleaning up our back yard area. They may have been doing the same in front but I was sitting in a room overlooking the back. Mark stopped by a few hours before they were done just to see how things were going and to see if we had any questions. He also told use that the pipe that there was a problem with the pipe with the loose boot and we needed a plumber to look at it. (We will be doing that soon too.) Yes we have a few more things to do but if it weren't for his attention to detail we wouldn't know about them until the problem got a lot worse. When the crew was done and had cleared their tools away they then proceeded to clean up the patio, lawn (front & back) of any debris. They also went over everything with a magnetic rake to pick up any stray nails they had missed. Thursday the crew came by to do the gutters. I wasn't at home then but my husband was. He said they went to work and had the gutters done in no time. The only problem was that they forgot the leaf barriers. Mark & Chris came back on Friday to put those in and then did another sweep of the area with the magnetic rake for stray nails. We got the high end shingles so we are good for another 50 years. I can say enough good about the work. For the estimate Mark made sure we knew exactly what work was being done and what out options were. He took time to answer our questions and make sure we understood what he was telling us. Once we signed he keep us up to date on the work schedule. His crews keep their mind on their work. Judging by the sounds of the work, they never stopped until lunchtime and when they were done. When I come home from work I love looking at our new roof as I drive down the street. Steve is really a big help from beginning to end. He sit down with us on all the details needed to get the job done. And the workmanship of his crew is superb. The roof replacement is done as promised date and quality I will be referring a lot of my friends to Steve, who is also a general contractor.

I am so happy we found Steve Case with Preferred Roofing and Exteriors. It took me almost 2 weeks to finally locate someone that would take on my problem. Steve emailed me back within a matter of minutes of him receiving my plea for help (despite it being a Sunday night). He was the only one out of 4 or 5 companies that got right back to me. Steve came out the next day and we talked about how to get this done. The very next day he had my carport temporarily up and safe for us to use. It was no longer hanging off the house. It was February and Steve and his team were not afraid to come out and help us. He understood the urgency of the problem. Due to my insurance company not treating this like an emergency it took a little longer than we wanted. Steve tried his best to get the insurance company to see that this was a dangerous situation but they took their time. Steve stayed on the insurance company, called and emailed them every day until they finally ok'd the estimate. Once they ok'd us to get rolling, Preferred Roofing and Exteriors came over the next day and had our carport repaired. They removed the shingles and repaired the broken roof/carport and had the new shingles on all in one day. It was done with speed and with great quality. Steve kept me updated with the insurance company and everything that was taking place. I have to say Steve has a way with insurance companies, he is very knowledgeable and knows how the insurance companies work. I truly can't say enough about how satisfied I am with this company. Steve is great, he makes you feel comfortable and secure by keeping you informed of their every move. Initially I contacted his other company Preferred Restoration, and after seeing my problem the work was done under Preferred Roofing & Exteriors. Thank you so much Steve for answering request.

All waste and cleanup was disposed of . Every concern was addressed as I had a couple items. Steve sells what I consider to be quality products. I've not a roof replacement before but I am a tradesman myself. I would recommend Preferred Roofing to anyone who asks and I don't take referrals lightly as I count on them myself . Its pretty good. I don't have any problems. We went through a pretty harsh winter and we don't have any problems right now. So far, I'm pretty happy with that. It was a pretty big roof. I like him. He contracted the roof and siding to somebody else. I don't know if next time he will use the same professionals, you'll never know. You cannot control that. That doesn't mean he'll do the same job. They have many reviews most of them are pretty good and a couple of them were bad. I was hesitant to use them but they're pretty good.

The roof on both buildings is beautiful. Professional job provided by skilled people.

I contacted roofing providers very late last season. Steve Case of Preferred Roofing & Exteriors quickly emailed me back a quote, and scheduled me for that week. He was complete within a day and didn't require any supervision. We have gone through a winter and there have been no leaks Additionally, there was no mess left on site following the replacement of the roof. I would use Steve again. From a Pricing perspective, he was inline with other quotes I recieved. He was able to communicate effectively via email and phone (which was very helpful)

I was selling my house after 18 years and was told from the buyers home inspector the multiple items that needed to be addressed before closing. I called Preferred Roofing & Exteriors because they had performed work a year ago for me. I told them what was needed to make my closing date happen. Based on this information they made all of the necessary replacements on a Saturday before we had a large snow storm. I was very stressed about getting these items completed before my closing but Preferred came thru and took the stress away.. I cant thank them enough for the great service but most of all for meeting my deadline. I would strongly encourage anyone that is looking for a roof replacement to consider using this company.

This job went smoothly from start to finish. Steve was courteous and professional from his first prompt phone call to his followup calls. We were lucky to get this small job in right away before the big roofing season hit! His crew worked efficiently and was able to complete the job in one day. We were extremely pleased with the workmanship as well as the care they took on the job and cleaning up afterwards. I really appreciated Steve helping get our gutter replaced that fell off during the winter -- above and beyond the call of duty! Kudos to you Steve! Left a message thru the Message Center. Heard back within 2 hours. Worked with me to schedule an estimate. Provided a quote within a day. Worked with me to get the work scheduled with the understanding that it was weather dependent. Kept in touch and scheduled the work as soon as weather permitted. Work was completed, installer was professional and cleaned up after himself. Very, very satisfied with the entire experience. Would recommend this contractor without hesitation.

Steve has answered every email I ever sent him. Extremely responsive. The work on the roof in 2012 was done on time, they cleaned up like they were never here and the roof looks great. Have had no issues - great work. Very easy too deal with. Highly recommend thi company.

In the words of my husband, "Preferred was Excellent." We worked with Steve Case and from beginning to end, he was was responsive, prompt, professional, and courteous. We had a roof that had shingles that were curling badly. Steve responded to our inquiry very promptly, and came to inspect the house. He was on-time, and did a thorough job of inspecting the roof and the job before giving us a quote. During the course of the job, the team found some minor water damage and just fixed it (without an up-charge), which we thoroughly appreciated. Steve's team replaced the roof in a matter of a day, cleaned everything up, and even offered to come out again if we had any questions or concerns. If you need someone to give you a reasonable estimate, great service, prompt/fast installation, and fair and professional follow-through, then we would highly recommend Steve Case and Preferred Roofing & Exteriors.

I noticed some issues with my 20 year-old roof and siding. Steve came out in 2 days and inspected the roof (including the attic) and siding. Due to his extensive background in housing, he also answered several questions I had that went well beyond the roof and siding. I received an objective assessment and an education. Steve came out on Sunday to make necessary roof repairs ahead of the approaching bad weather. Will use Preferred again to add insulation to the minimal amount currently in the attic.

While there were not major problems, there was some issues that were not as "professional" as I had expected from the other reviews that I had seen for this vendor. They showed up at the agreed time/day for both providing the estimate and the actual work itself. The estimate was prepared and left in the mailbox with minimal contact from the vendor or follow up after the estimate was provided. We compared prices for the same work and this vendor's prices were within the mid range of the others (although the difference between high and low estimates was not much of difference). I cannot comment on the actual quality of the roofing job done - to an untrained eye all looks fine. It's been about a month but with no major storms nor large snows, it's had to tell if there will be any leaks or other issues. The biggest complaint was what I would call lack of professionalism on the part of the crew that showed up to do the work. They showed up as expected - a plus, let us know they were going to start work so we could move cars out of the garage and driveway. That was the last contact we had. They did their work and left at the end of the day. They didn't let us know if they were finished with the job, if they'd need to be back, etc. They left some debris in the backyard, left unused materials on the front lawn - this made me think they'd be back the next day. They apparently had finished and didn't remove the unused materials. I left the mess for a couple of weeks, hoping/thinking someone would come back to remove it - but that never happened. I carted the materials to the curb for the trash collector, some of the materials - unopened packages of shingles were quite heavy. I removed the debris left over in the yard - it wasn't much, but more than I expected to see - or wanted to clean up. The real issue was when I went on the roof myself to inspect the work. In addition to numerous roofing nails left on both the roof and in the gutters, they had also left a water bottle and packaging from what appeared to be materials or a tool in the gutter. The nails could have easily ended up blowing from the roof to the driveway (which could have a disastrous effect on the car tires). The trash left in the gutters would likely have ended up clogging the cutter drains at some point. I did the clean up work myself I did not call the company to complain, however about a month later when they called on a Saturday morning to tell me they were on the way to collect their check I explained the situation. I had documented the various items of trash, nails, etc. with photographs and showed the person that came to collect the money. He was apologetic, however beyond that there was no (even token) offers made to compensate for my having to do the clean up work myself. I asked that the roof be inspected since at this point I didn't (still don't) have faith the workmanship was done with attention to detail given the state they left the jobsite. I was told after the inspection was done that all looked right, however I didn't really expect any different of an answer - I still don't feel 100% comfortable that all is well - time will tell.
