We worked with Steve Case from the start and he was FANTASTIC. He answered every question we had, came to the house to check everything prior to the sale (including reviewing our insurance paperwork), and was available by phone or email without any issues. We had hail damage to our roof and the insurance adjuster approved a completely new roof, including replacement of our gutter screens. Steve came out and looked everything over, reviewed the insurance bill of material, and checked one of our three attics. He found inadequate insulation, which we were already well aware of, and offered to blow in insulation while the roof was repaired. Steve offered to perform all of the replacement work listed on the insurance bill of material for the price listed by the insurance adjuster. Adding the insulation and ridge vents were optional extras that we agreed to pay for. We ended up wanting a slightly nicer shingle and Steve threw that in for no additional charge. Steve kept in constant touch with us about delivering material to our driveway and setting a date for the work to be done. We had to wait for some weather, and Steve was careful not to deliver the material if we had to wait over a weekend. It's a small thing, but it was nice to not have our driveway blocked for two extra days. Preferred came out exactly on the day Steve scheduled and they were on-time. The work took approximately 11 hours and the only issue I was aware of was a problem with the insulation blowing machine, which they were renting. They had to go back twice for a machine that worked but they still kept up and got the job done on that day. The roof installation looks great and we ended up being very happy with the finished work. The guys did leave my attic lights on, so I had to turn them off once they left. It's not a big deal, but I mention it so that others will check theirs. The clean up was very thorough and we only found a couple of small scraps of material and a couple of leftover nails. I couldn't ask for much better. We had about 2/3 of our gutters covered by screens and Preferred ended up covering ALL of our gutters for no additional charge. In the end we paid the amount that was quoted, there were no surprises, and they did exactly what they said they were going to do. The work was good and time will tell if everything was done properly. I couldn't say enough good things about Steve. He walks the fine line of following up well without pressuring and he knows what he's talking about. He's a terrific asset to Preferred.
Description of Work: Preferred replaced our roof (complete tear-off) and added blown-in insulation to our attics.

I contacted the company on May 28th and left a message with a person (not voicemail), and they said someone would call me back within the next day to schedule an estimate. I never heard from them. I called again on June 5th, again left a message with a person, and this time they did call me back that night. We scheduled the estimate for today, June 10th, at 7am. It is currently 11:02am and no one has shown up or called. When I called the phone number for the person who was supposed to come out there was no answer, and the mail box was full, so I could not leave a message. They are obviously not interested in my business, so I will be going elsewhere. Update 7/11/14: After posting this review I recieved two messages from the company apologizing for the oversight. I am told the person that was supposed to meet me had some personal situations come up that day that kept them from being able to meet the comittment. I greatly appreciate the apology and explanation. I still think someone should have been watching the schedule yesterday and I should have received a call before my review was posted, but I am updating the scores for professionalisim and responsiveness. Everyone makes mistakes, and they owned up to it and apologized. They in no way asked me to update this review. I am choosing to do that based on how they handled their mistakes.
Description of Work: I was looking to have the roof of my house and garage replaced. The company did a poor job of returning calls and was a no-show on the scheduled date and time of the estimate, and they never called to let me know anything.

My roof was in an emergency state. Steve Case came to my home to give me an estimate shortly after I called him, and the work was done several days later, on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Steve felt that the job couldn't wait due to the terrible state of the roof and storms in the forecast. Even though he had a three-week waiting list, he squeezed me in. The work team arrived at 7:30 a.m. and covered all my bushes to protect them from falling debris. Then someone realized that the roofing materials hadn't been delivered, and I was told that the work could not be done until after the holiday. I was upset because storms were predicted. Steve managed to get different materials and called his crew back to do the job. They started at 9:30 a.m. and worked until sundown. They came back on Sunday morning to finish and clean up. Steve was in touch with me by phone, text, and email from the time of the estimate until the job was finished. The roof hasn't been inspected yet by the city, but it looks great. This is the second time this company came through for me in an emergency. (The first time, a storm blew the top off my garage, along with a railing on the perimeter.) I highly recommend this firm. All the details were explained to me beforehand, and I did not feel pressure to buy unnecessary "extras," even though they were available.

Steve with Preferred Roofing and Preferred Restoration was fabulous. From the initial inspection, we were comfortable, and knew that he was being honest with us about the work recommended when he found mold in our attic. We did end up getting a few more estimates from other contractors, but the pricing by Preferred was still the most reasonable. We were also in the middle of a refinance, and Steve was very accommodating and understanding regarding the timing of the work and payment. His correspondence was extremely timely, and we were always able to get a very quick response whenever we needed one. The work was done in a day, and the crew was very punctual and polite. They worked hard all day to make sure everything was complete, and subsequently cleaned up completely. We are extremely happy with the entire experience, and would whole-heartedly recommend Preferred Roofing and Preferred Restoration.
Description of Work: We initially bought the Big Deal for the roof/attic inspection, and ended up having a full roof tear-off along with mold remediation in the attic.

Everything went very smooth. Being a first time home owner I had many questions and Steve was good about answering them all. He actually should have thought I was a pain. They removed all our old ugly vents and added a new ridge vent that I was extremely pleased with. Our attic is noticeably cooler now. New oversized gutters are a great new addition and do not clog like our old ones.

Steve came out promptly after I called, analyzed the problem consistent with what another roofer had already told me, quoted the job on the spot, and did the work within the next couple of days. I was gone when the work was done but it looked great and everything was cleaned up and left in good order. I'm still waiting for a quote that was promised by the first company that came out.

The new roof looks great. The back of our house has a very gentle slope, so it has a flat roof, and they suggested a commercial grade material that ended up working well. Old roof with 2-3 layers of shingles off and new roof on in a single day. The only negative was the clean-up. They didn't finish until almost 10pm, and it was just too dark for them to pick up all the debris. They left some tools, materials (plywood and some of the drip edge material), and lots of little pieces of our old roof scattered around. Overall very happy with the new roof though, would give them A- if I could just because the clean up wasn't that good.

The whole process was easy and low pressure. They responded quickly after the first phone call setting up an appointment. Mike came and looked at the roof and was the only company to look in the Attic. Mike found the bathroom vent had been installed incorrectly. The vent fix was included in the price. They also removed and repaired an attic fan that we had installed when we first moved into the house. The crew arrived on time and worked through out the day, finishing late evening. They returned the next morning to make sure every thing was completed and cleaned-up. Mike came by the next day for a final walk through. Again the whole process was straight forward with no surprises.

I noticed the paint on my front siding bubbling up, went in the attic to investigate, and my fears were confirmed--the boards were wet from the inside. I thought I had a leak and knew my roof was about due anyway. I was very impressed with Rick when he came for the estimate and he told me that, although he was certainly in the business of selling roofs, I likely did not have a leak but rather a condensation problem caused by inadequate venting. Rick was very knowledgeable and honest. He did agree that the roof should be replaced anyway before a leak should occur, and explained the best venting system to install. Rick also agreed to spot-tuckpoint my chimney since that was included in a competing estimate. The workers were very professional and finished the job in 7 hours. I couldn't believe how fast they were, and their clean-up was near-immaculate. The roof looks great, and they actually discovered and replaced a significant amount of rotted wood. I think most was from previous leaks decades ago, but there was also a fair amount of bad wood up front, leading me to think maybe I did have a current leak there after all. All the more reason I was happy to be getting a whole new roof. I was all set to rate them with A's across the board, but after the job I had some concerns, and there were things that I had to repair. I used to work on a painting crew in another life and I painted my entire house years ago, so I know every inch of the place and knew the potential problems to watch for. The first issue has to do with the flashing where our annex connects to the back of our house. It had been previously tarred in an amateurish way halfway up the lowest siding board on the rear peak, and knew it would have to be torn off, taking the paint with it. It's a good thing I was aware of this, because when I was doing a walk-around after they had left, I noticed that the bottom siding board had been largely stripped bare and just left that way. The wood is also old and kind of soft, so it was something that needed immediate attention. Now I know that these guys aren't contracted to be painters, but the thing that kind of surprised me is that nobody said, "Hey, you're going to want to get that taken care of." I feel that, when in the course of one's work a compounding issue is created that needs attention, it should be addressed somehow, at least with a "heads-up." Maybe they thought it was obvious, I don't know. Anyway, when I went on the roof to fix that siding board I noticed other things. There is a tricky corner where the annex and the main part of the house meet, and it includes a 4" drip edge. The water flow was previously not planned very well and I found that the wood under that 4" stretch was rotted out. Yet I saw that a new small piece of flashing was simply bent down halfway over it and was still going to send water right into that same rotten spot. In the same corner I also saw that the caulking job was spotty, and in a full rain water could easily go behind the edge of the gutter there and also into a gap between the trim and siding, where the old caulk and tar had been torn away but not redone. My gutters also have ends that are flush with both sides of my chimney, and those edges were previously caulked with silicone to keep water from being channeled from the roof directly down the sides of the chimney, yet in the course of the project the caulk had been broken away but also not redone. Maybe that last one isn't so crucial, but it seemed to me like something that should be sealed. I decided to do a walk-over check of the entire roof, and found an exposed nail head on a shingle, and another shingle with a 9" horizontal tear in it that was nevertheless installed (both of those things can leak, right?...). I'm sure if I had called them with my concerns they would have come out and addressed them since they were very responsive throughout, but I figured it was easier just to fix them myself, which I did. I want to repeat that the general job looks fantastic and I believe that I have a high-quality roof and ventilation system on my house. But the things I mentioned above are details that I feel they should have been more attuned to. Their general workmanship is so good that I can't help but think that all they needed to do was take a bit more time to check things before leaving the job.

Angies list has done it again... I had some ice damming in an upstairs bedroom, my roof is 17 years old and thought perhaps I would get an inspection and an estimate. I called Preffered and spoke with Steve Case, he told me about the deal at Angies List and actually helped me find it on the website when I was on the phone with him, scheduled an appointment for just a couple days later. Steve came out did a complete inspection of my roof and attic, he had me up on the ladder to look for myself and to explain what everything was up there and what kind of shape it was in, he then went up on the roof, did some estimates and went over everything with me, he did great job explaining everything, he was there for 2 hours... He told me I didn't need a roof right now, but I did ask for an estimate for a new roof but also just the repairs I needed. I decided to get a new roof since I would need one anyway, I would rather get it now and not have to worry about it, he helped me pick out the color and scheduled an appointment the the next week. Steve always returned my phone calls immediately, and was always a pleasure to speak with, always answered any and all of my questions completely. His team came out on the day scheduled, on time, were very pleasant, and started right away, they began at 7:30am and finished at about 6:30pm, the clean up was wonderful, they even walked some of the neighborhood to make sure nothing was left in our neighbors lawns. It almost looks like nothing happened, I have had a wonderful experience with Preferred roofing and with Steve Case, I really can't think of anything that would have made it better, I would highly recommend preffered roofing, from the beginning to end it was an A+++.

Steve had done my father's roof in 2012. I was very impressed with how professional he was. His price was better than the other estimates we received using the same grade of material. He even came to our home at that time and repaired a leaking part of our roof at no charge to last us until we were able to get our roof done. Steve and his crew are great. They really listen to what you want and take the time to explain everything to you. If you have any issues he is there right away to address them. He called a few times after the install to make sure we were happy and had no problems. I would recommend Preferred roofing and Steve to anyone that needs a new roof or just a repair. the estimate steve gave me was about 2000.00 dollars lower than two other estimates i received. my roof was nearly forty years old. steve came to my house and actually got on the roof; walking the roof for several minutes. i made suggestions and asked several questions. he answered all my questions; informing me of things the other two estimators did not tell me. on the day of installation, his crew came before 0800, they were polite and finished the job in one day. they tore off my existing roof, installed a new roof and two ridge vents. they entered my attic from the roof and closed off my gabble vents they did a very good job @ cleaning up the mess; cleaning all during the day, so they did not have a huge mess @ the end of the day. i would hire this company again.

Contacted this company on March, 18, 2014 along with 3 other companies to get estimates for a complete roof replacement. Never received a call back. Obviously, business is very good for this company, but they are out of the running for me. I have a 3650 square foot ranch house that will probably require about 80 squares of shingles (not a small amount by any means). I'm reviewing quotes now, and plan to choose one of the other 3 companies that bothered to give me a quote.

This was a stubborn leak that came in from two places, resulting in a repair and then another after a timely rainstorm. Thankfully the timing was such that the interior ceiling had not been fixed yet. Bob worked with me on several occasions to track down the leak and fix it. Ultimately, the main leak was related to a window and not roofing. He removed a good bit of siding to seal it with ice covering. Although it took a bit longer than we hoped to repair, Bob stayed with it and brought another guy to finish it up. His rate was reasonable for the amount of time and effort put in.

Charlie came out, climbed on both roofs, and took many pictures. He said parts of both roofs were fine but we needed to replace some sections. We also needed to redo a flat roof. They took care of the permits. They came out in a timely manner and replaced both shingled roofs. They returned on the next nice day and did the flat roof. One of our commercial tenants even commented how they cleaned up and were very respectful of the property. They did not ask for a penny until they had completed the job. We have used another Angies List roofer in the past and also got an estimate from them. It took over two weeks just for the estimate. Very pleased with Preferred. We would definitely use them again.
