Every detail from my first phone call to Catalano to the last shovel full of backfill going in was done professionally and on time. The end result is a concrete job that looks really really great and is graded correctly. Pete and Sal are good honest people who work very hard and take great pride in getting the job done right. I would feel confident in recommending Catalano to my friends.

Sometimes you pick the best companies, not for the great work that they do, but because of the work that they DON’T do, as compared to doing unnecessary work just to make a buck. Catalano Concrete is one of those highly rated companies, from my experience this week, that is at the top of companies that I recommend. I called Catalano Concrete for an estimate on a couple of concrete issues we were experiencing with our house, and to be honest with you, that I thought were pretty substantial, and I was expecting the worst from a budget standpoint. I requested an estimate meeting from the website, and within a matter of minutes I received a phone call from Melina in the office to schedule the appointment. Melina also followed up the morning of the appointment with a reminder call. Great! Pete from Catalano came out for the scheduled appointment, on time and incredibly friendly and professional. I showed Pete the issues we were having, and we discussed the options to solution together. In both cases, Pete explained what was happening, and suggested solutions that could be easily completed by me, rather than me having to pay the company to complete the job or trying to sell me on something that didn’t need to be done. Pete joked that perhaps he’s not the best salesman. Pete – I disagree with your self-assessment: Some of the best sales people are people that do exactly what you did – assess the situation and provide the best solution for your customer, even if it doesn’t mean, this time, that you get the business. You have no idea how appreciative I am of your expertise and your ability to provide peace of mind on our concerns. Based on my experience with this well-run, family-owned company, I highly recommend the Catalano family business, based on their service, knowledge, experience and honesty in not taking on unnecessary work. Integrity like this has become hard to find, but not at Catalano. Thank you again Pete and Melina, and know that the next time we have any concrete work, we will be working with your family and company.

The crew did an amazing job. Sal and Pete were on-site overseeing and performing the job. They were very professional and explained everything to us. The finished concrete patio, driveway, and sidewalk came out beautiful! Sal has been doing this for 40 years so he understands what needs to be done and how to do it. Pete is also very knowledgeable and dealt with the village inspectors to resolve the issues.

I had a 50 year old driveway and sidewalk that leads to my home. It was time to replace both so I called Catalano Concrete after reading the positive reviews on Angie's List. After agreeing to move forward with them they gave me a lead time on when they would start the job and they stuck to it. The project turned out very nice and they were very professional. One of the owners was at the job site each day and they took great care to make sure the project was done properly. I was very pleased with my experience and the quality of work. For what it's worth my neighbor did a driveway and porch replacement at the same time with Catalano Concrete and he is very happy as well. We decided to do our projects at the same time and it worked out great and have nothing but good things to say about Catalano Concrete.

Working with Catalano Concrete was a real pleasure. They were very professional, reasonably priced and they repaired our front step in no time. Being scheduled for a Monday, I left the house in the morning for work, Peter contacted me to inform me that someone would be by to do the repair that morning and by the time I came home that afternoon, our step was repaired, good as new. I really appreciated their timeliness and quality of work. I'd highly recommend them for anyone needing new or preexisting concrete work done.
Description of Work: My wife and I were having issues with a row of loose pavers on our front step. I had tried to re-secure them a couple of different ways last summer, but after this winter, those measures had failed and they were loose again causing a real safety hazard approaching our front door. With our home under contract and the issue showing up in the buyer's inspection, we needed to have the issue corrected immediately. I spoke to Peter and he immediately worked us into their schedule. Within a few days Catalano Concrete came to our home and had the issue resolved in no time.

When I started describing the work I NEEDED done, replace certain squares of concrete, the estimator proceeded to tell me they only did jobs that started with a certain minimum (maybe $2,500?) - I said, no problem as I was weighing my options and was considering replacing an entire walkway around my house that I had already gotten estimates that exceeded this amount. He also told me that they were booked through the end of the season and that they probably wouldn't be able to get to it until the spring. Fair enough - it was already mid October, though it really did seem like he was trying to tell me he didn't want my money. I walked him around and left him to do his measuring and what not. Before I left him he said that he would measure everything up and mail a quote and if I decided to go ahead I would be one of the first jobs this spring. I don't recall seeing him ever pull out anything to actually measure and when I looked for him a few minutes later he was already gone. I never received a quote and obviously will not be calling him again now that Spring is here and the weather is conducive to concrete work. I had a new driveway, roof and some significant crawlspace work completed last fall so it's not like I gave the impression that I was looking to pinch pennies. It's a shame that they snubbed me because I am ready to replace a whole sidewalk, patio and driveway apron and curb that will far exceed their $2,500 minimum.

It's been about 1 1/2 years since we contracted Catalano to provide their services. I received estimates from three different contractors. My neighbor and I chose Catalano for three reasons: 1) competitive pricing, 2) previous work inspection, and 3) they performed brick paving work - didn't need to work with another contractor for this. I was excited to have Catalano start the work, as I was impressed with Pete Catalano's responsiveness and patience to the number of questions I had. Unfortunately, the problems began as the work commenced. Tear out of the old concrete was fine as well as the foundation prep work, however the finish work was unsatisfactory. The control joints were cut leaving six uneven rectangular shaped areas on the driveway. The measurements taken by the village inspector starting from the garage door down to the sidewalk are as follows: (1) 8'-1" x 10' -1 1/2", (2) 8'-1" x 10' -1 1/2", (3) 8'-1" x 11' -1", (4) 8'-1" x 11' -1", (5) 7'-11 1/2" x 10' 4", (6) 7'-10" x 10' 4". Per the contract, and multiple phone and email conversations, the front stoop was to be in the shape of an arc. The exact language in the contract was "curved". Despite the verbal clarification that "curved" = "arc", they indeed poured a "curved" stoop. In fact it was so curved it barely resembled an arc. I contacted Pete that evening and expressed my displeasure. He proceeded to blame this mishap on a miscommunication with his father - who was at the job site when the stoop was poured. I had to calculate the exact measurements needed for the stoop to be in the shape of a proper arc, and apply the markings to the cement so that Catalano could cut the "curved" stoop into the appropriate shape. Given the aforementioned problems, I was leary as to the quality of the brick paving they would perform. Note, the arc stoop was the foundation for the brick pavers. After the stoop was cut, the laborers spent the next day laying the brick on the stoop and for the walkway leading to the driveway. They got about 3/4 of the way through the job and had to come back the following day. I noticed after they left, the walkway was off-centered to the left of the stoop. I didn't bother calling Pete this time, as I knew that if I wanted the job right I would have to do it myself. Consequently, I had re-lay the brick pavers so that they would be centered to the stoop. This entailed measuring and digging so that all the bricks would fit properly. The next day I informed the laborers what they did or didn't do. They understood their mistake and apologized. After all the improper measurements, or lack-thereof in some cases, I thought the worst was behind me. Winter set in and by Spring '15, my driveway had chert pops. Due to the excess chert in the cement mix, little pieces of my driveway were coming up. This can be exacerbated by severe cold temperatures according to Pete. I called Catalano and they offered to come out and patch each of the holes that were left in my driveway due to the excess chert. I was explained that each hole would be patched and brushed to closely match the texture of the driveway. In most cases, it looked like somebody used their finger to smear some cement in a hole and forgot to brush it. It is now Spring '16 and my driveway has more chert pops. Finally, since Spring '15 one of the three sidewalk squares has a crack down the middle of it. Catalano won't do anything to replace because the crack is not wide enough to fit a quarter. I can balance a quarter on the crack, but can't easily fit the quarter into it. I guess that is not enough for them to remediate. Given all the aforementioned issues, I can safely say that I did not experience as many problems as my next door neighbor. Catalano did their driveway too the same day with an outcome of my neighbor filing a formal complaint with the BBB. I will leave it to the reader(s) of this review whether they should hire Catalano for their concrete needs.

I hired Catalano a few years ago to replace our driveway and recently we hired them again to redo our front walk and porch since we didn't have the money at the time to do it all. Pete arrived on time and was very polite and professional for the estimate. Chose Catalano Concrete for the job since they seemed like a company I can trust compared to some of the other bids I received. I was not disappointed. Pete was in contact with me throughout the project and Sal (Pete's father) was on site during most of the project to supervise. Very hardworking and skilled crew removed our old concrete very fast and the finishers came a few days later to pour. Pete also raised our patio himself which came out perfect. Very cool to watch how polyurethane can lift concrete. My property was left in tact and clean. I'm VERY pleased with the work and the service. The Catalano's are a great family to work with and wont hesitate to recommend to others.

I was quite pleased with this company and the work they did. The initial appointment for a quote was promptly scheduled and the individual providing the quote arrived right on time. He was knowledgeable, professional and answered all my questions. He provided the quote (with a list of addresses where previous work was done over the past several years) at the conclusion of his visit. The price was competitive. After the contract was signed, the company followed up appropriately and performed the work within a reasonable amount of time as anticipated. The work was done well. Our village inspector came by three times while the work was being done and once after completion and was satisfied. The end product is great. I felt the company was good to work with. I have not yet gone through a winter with the new concrete, but looking at other jobs they have done gave me some reassurance that the job will last. They said they stand behind their work so that is good to know as well.

Pete Catalano is a stand up guy who backs up what he sells. We had a very unique situation out at my property with our paver installation and Pete was not afraid to come back out to the job and make sure it got re-done correctly and up to his standards. If you want someone who will return your calls and back up what they sell, you should use these guys.

Our condo association needed to replace the existing concrete in our courtyard, so we asked for estimates from several companies. From the very start, Catalano Concrete did a good job. The estimate that Pete gave us was complete, providing a description of everything we needed. Their quote was very competitive and when additional work was required after the contract was signed, the additional cost was reasonable Once the job started, Catalano Concrete performed well. When they said they would be here to work, they came here and worked. We needed about 27 cubic yards of concrete and they sent enough workers to get the forms installed and the concrete poured in a short time frame. We needed conduit and wiring installed under the concrete and Catalano Concrete coordinated well with the electrical contractor. They passed their inspections without issue and the final product has drawn rave reviews from many owners. We would recommend anyone looking to do concrete work to contact Catalano Concrete.

I normally don?t write reviews unless a business goes above and beyond what is expected and really blow me away. I?ve worked with many contractors since purchasing my home 8 years ago and will say this company has been by far the most professional. Pete (son of the owner) showed up for the estimate exactly at the scheduled time and even called me before to remind me of the appointment. After meeting with him and going over the scope of work, he spent time really explaining the process and other details I was never aware of. Definitely not a salesman but a guy who really knows his stuff. On day one Pete arrived with his crew and they quickly removed our old driveway and had everything ready for inspections for the following morning. Site was left clean and tidy when they left. The day after inspections, Sal (the owner) arrived with his crew and poured our driveway. Couldn?t believe how quickly they got it laid and finished. Sal is an old school Italian guy who?s been doing concrete his whole life. He really made sure everything went perfect and he seemed like a perfectionist. Not a guy I would like to work for but a great guy to hire. The crew was very upbeat and polite. The following day someone came to remove the forms and clean everything up. He really did a good job and left nothing behind. Throughout the process Pete called to give updates and he also quickly returned my calls and emails. After the job was complete he followed-up to make sure we were happy with everything. Pete and Sal are very nice guys and run a well-oiled business. I enjoy hiring family businesses that really have a passion for what they do and have pride in their work. It was not the cheapest bid but they were well worth the money. Very happy!!

From setting-up the estimate to the final clean-up, this company was very professional. Pete, one of the owners arrived on time to give us an estimate. He was very polite, well spoken and did a great job explaining the process and answering all my questions. After getting two other quotes I chose this company because they were by far the most professional. They were not the cheapest but we learned the hard way with our siding project the true cost of going with the cheapest company. When the demo crew arrived they covered the apron and public walk which were not getting replaced to prevent any damage. When they left for the day the site was clean and taped with cation tape. They handled calling in the inspection but I was told to let them know once the job was approved for the pour. The finishing crew was supervised by Sal Catalano, the other owner and Petes father. This guy was great. You could tell he has been doing this his whole life and made it all look so easy. A true craftsman. I love seeing these guys work. After the pour Pete came over to check things out and explained how to care for the concrete. I paid extra for the sealer, which I feel is worth it because the village always over spays salt onto my driveway. My neighbor had a new driveway put it last year and didnt seal it and you could see spalling on it already. I would recommend this company in a hear beat. They were true to there word. Built a solid driveway and were really nice, hard working people.
Description of Work: We had our old concrete driveway that was over 30 years in age removed and replaced. Upon getting our permit approved, Catalano's crew arrived to remove the old driveway, which they hauled away to get recycled. They then removed some soil which they deemed unstable and installed new stone and installed forms around the perimeter. After the inspection, they arrived early the next day to pour the concrete, a 5" thick slab. After they applied a sealer. The following day, they removed the forms, backed filled and cleaned up.

Pete gave me an estimate probably back in April or May. By the time we made our decision a month or so later, we were on the books for the end of September. On the first day of the demo, Pete came and we walked around and discussed more in detail exactly what work was going to be done, when and how. The crew spent a day or two demo-ing, another day framing things in and then we had to wait for the inspection to go through for the pour. All in all, the whole process was about a week and a half. I will say that Pete, his dad and their entire crew were extremely hard workers and everyone was doing everything. From carrying chunks of our old deck out to be disposed of to running wheelbarrows full of concrete, these guys worked super hard. The end result was fantastic. We have gotten so much positive feedback from the way it now looks. If you want stamped concrete, this is not something they do, but we were ok without stamped. We thought we paid a fair price for the amount of work we had done. The quality of the work was excellent and I'd definitely use them again should the need arise. One side note: during the process of demo on the deck, something kicked back into our patio door and shattered the entire half of the door. Within a minute, Pete was at my front door apologizing for the accident and told me we can have whoever we'd like replace the window and they'd take the bill. No questions asked. Another side note: FYI, this company requires you to get your own permits which was a bit of a daunting task considering the amount of work we had done. At one point Pete did need to go to the village to get a different permit because of the elevation and orientation of the stairs going down to the patio.
Description of Work: We replaced the front stoop and sidewalk( sidewalk replaced with pavers), half of the driveway and removed an old deck and patio that was underneath it to replace it with a new patio and stairs.

Well, since I dealt with Pete last year and loved the service he provided, I was very excited to use them again. The service started with last years driveway that was poured (in Oct..not even a year) having a hairline crack from one end of the drive to the other end (across). We discussed the crack over the winter and Pete said he would pour new cement and fix it when he did the porch and stairs. That was great news. Then, when he pored the concrete for the porch he told me the driveway would never match because he was using a new concrete guy. Okay, what to do..He said he could patch it since we didn't want a million colors of concrete. From that point, he finish the steps and porch and sealed them. I called to tell him there is a huge stain on the concrete porch..almost as if something was laced there when they sealed it. The hairline crack still looks terrible and I am convinced that it will get worse. He told me he would fix it if it gets worse, but I have never heard from him about the stain..and I sent my check because I am a woman of my word. I don't believe the story now that the concrete would of been different colors because where the sidewalk and the porch and driveway meet, they are EXACTLY the same colors. Somehow, I feel the work has changed. I even had a neighbor stop and ask about the porch and then say, "what is that weird stain". Needless, to say I did not recommend them to my neighbor, nor would they of used them after seeing that. It's too bad, because the second time is usually a charm..not in this case!

Response from Concrete Hero
Hi (removed member name), We are sorry to learn about your dissatisfaction. After receiving your text, I did stop by to take a look and did notice the color variations which is common to have in new concrete. Many times color variations are a result of the sealing and with time the sealer dissipates and the concrete becomes a more uniform in color. If the stain is still there in the spring please give us a call. As far as the hairline crack, is not our policy to replace concrete with hairline cracks since these types of cracks are not structural and not cause for concern. Also, a major cause for this type of cracking close to the garage is due to water discharging there from a downspout like you have and freezing causing the slab to raise. However, we did agree to do it since we were going to be there to replace the stairs. I did inform you that there is a chance that the new and old concrete might be different colors since they will be a year apart in age and from different suppliers and you did decide to not replace it. We understand your disappointment with having a hairline crack. As I mentioned to your husband we will gladly replace the section if the crack gets worse and we also advise you to install downspout extensions to reduce future problems. Our apologizes again, Pete Catalano
