TERRIBLE. This company lied to my father, telling him he needed a new furnace (he didn't) and lied to us, telling us we needed a new furnace (we didn't). THIS COMPANY IS NOT REPUTABLE. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. BEWARE! We have several witnesses (other heating/ac companies) that were witnesses to this scam. It can't be a coincidence, twice in one family. DON'T USE THEM! Three other heating and cooling companies confirmed that no part was "missing" from our furnace and that the furnace was perfectly safe. The "item" that was handed to us by the technician was a simple nut that was not related to any safety issue. This company told my father that he needed a new furnace too and neither of us do! We don't need the company to return to our home as they offered. They are disreputable and people need to STAY AWAY from this company! It matters NOTHING that they were referred to us by a general contractor. That contractor has been informed of the discrepancy in what Axberg told us (that our furnace was unsafe and needed replacing) and what THREE other companies said (that the furnace was just fine). They were paid for their furnace inspection anyway. This company sometimes tries to sell furnaces by SCARING people into thinking their furnaces are unsafe, when apparently they aren't.. Again, DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!

The homeowner at the address was not our customer directly. We performed work at the home through a general contractor, whom we billed for our services. We found popped rivets in the heat exchanger, which is a safety issue, and we showed the homeowner that with our camera. Our technician physically handed one of the popped rivet rings to the homeowner. In addition to that, the furnace at this home is 18 years old. Average lifespan of a furnace is 17 years, so our recommendation to consider replacement of the furnace is not unusual even without the safety issue with the heat exchanger. We stand by our diagnosis of the unsafe furnace at the address and we would be happy to come back out free of charge to show our evidence. We cannot respond to any claims at any other home without knowing the second address.

Update 2-15-13 Unfortunately I have to update my review to a negative experience. I had this furnace installed on 12/30/11. On 2/07/13 the furnace quit working. I called axberg and was told it was no longer under warranty. The furnace broke dowm a month and a week after warranty. I spent over $4000.00. I got the bill today for $106.00 dollars to clean a sensor. My husband works for a large roofing company and he said he would never charge a customer for that so close to warranty date. We also are in the home renovation business and will not use them again for any of are homes. They will say we knew of the warranty. We did but did not expect the furnace to break down so soon. Disappointed sometimes what looks good on paper is bad customer service. My first meeting was with Mike the salesman he was very polite and professional.Unfortu He was the only one out of the other estimates I received, who took a tape measure and and measured out the rooms for the new duct work. The existing furnace is underneath the house I was relocating it to the attic. This is a rental home. He promptly sent me a email of the proposal later that day. My husband and Mike agreed on a price we thought was good and fair. The workman who came out were very nice and explained in detail the work they would be doing. One of the workman Nathan came back the second time to finish. He was very polite and explained everything clearly to me. Okay here are my thoughts to other woman or who are single or dealing with tradesman themselves. I felt safe dealing with axeberg which some of the others I did not. They are a great company and have given there name to others already.

In 2009, we got a great deal on an installed Trane furnace from an independent contractor - but, when we had a problem with the furnace a year-and-a-half later, the independent guy was worthless. Axberg was prompt and professional, even pointing out that our furnace was still under Trane warranty and submitting the work for warranty payment - saving us a bunch of money . We will not ever use any other company for HVAC - from now on it will always be Axberg.

Had my local guy out to check my furnace that wouldn't fire up this Fall. He told me it was shot but they were too busy to install a new one. I didn't know who to call so I joined Angie's List and started doing some research. From the reviews I decided on Axberg Heating out of Rockford. They came down, confirmed my 25 year old Lennex Pulse furnace was shot, quoted me a price on a new furnace, installed it a few days later and everything was fine. I would not hesitate to recommend Axberg and will use them in the future. Oh, I almost forgot.....I did save $100 on the install as there was a coupon on Angie's List for $100 off a new furnace. I gave them the coupon when I went to pay the invoice and they deducted the $100 off the invoice. One more thing....I only gave a B on price because no one can be totally happy having to pay $3000 for a new furnace.

Prompt arrival, professional and courteous. Suggested a part be changed and explained why. Office staff seems to be a little lax in that they are supposed to call annually for the air & furnace checks and have not. When called they are not sure whey they have not called. However, beyond that, the techs have been professional and seem to know their job.

Axberg installed the new system two days after we accepted their offer; we thought that was exceptionally quick work. The work was done by two technicians. They arrived about 8:30 in the morning and finished around 2:30 in the afternoon. They had to run new lines and pipes to the outside of the house because we had an old roof type chimney. They also replaced the old AC compressor and pad with a larger unit. All of the work both inside and outside the house looks very neat and tidy. The pipe outlets were placed in a good spot and looked well sealed. When they finished, the techs spent about 30 minutes explaining the new system and how it worked. They were polite and friendly. Overall, we were impressed with the quick work and how easily the whole process went. I am writing this about 2 weeks after the installation. It's late September. The weather is mild, but we have had a few day's just warm enough for the new AC to switch on. The compressor sounds a bit louder than our old unit, but it works fine. We also had the heat on during a few colder nights and that also seems fine. However, because of the mild weather, we won't know how well it really works for a few months. One last note: The new system was inspected several days after installation. It passed inspection, but the inspector apparently left an internal switch turned off that prevented the furnace from igniting. We did not realize this until the weather turned colder yesterday and we were unable to get any heat. We did not know what the problem was at the time, but I did notice a flashing LED light on the furnace. The installation techs told us that this light would flash if there was a problem, so I put in an after hours call to Axberg. They did not respond until the next morning, but that may be due to a slip-up by their answering service. The service tech came to the house and discovered that he only had to flip a switch to fix the problem: something that we could have done ourselves had we known about this switch. This was not a big deal, but I recommend that the installers add an explanation of this switch to their post-installation instructions. Conclusion: We are very happy with Axberg so far, and we would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: We replaced an existing furnace and central air conditioning. Our previous furnace and AC were more then 20 years old and in poor condition, so we decided to replace everything before another winter. We called four HVAC services, for estimates. We selected Axberg because the price was reasonable and the sales rep seemed to be the most helpful and knowledgeable. One other HVAC service was a close second, but Axberg had a higher rating with the Better Business Bureau and here on Angie's list.

Our central air unit quit working on Tuesday August 2. I called Axberg on the morning of Wednesday August 3. They came out that afternoon. The technician did a thorough check and found that our unit had a bad capacitor. Apparently, they keep their service vehicles stocked with several different models, and fortunately he had the one we needed and was able to repair it on the spot. Air was working again within 15 minutes of his arrival. The repair technician was very professional and friendly.

Before the salesperson started his procedure of measuring our home, to determine the size of furnace and AC unit our we would need, he told me that he would need a Yes or No answer immediately to the estimate I would be given after the end of his presentation. I told him that was an easy answer, it is NO since my husband was out of town, traveling for work and we were receiving several estimates from other Heating & AC companies. He said that's why he likes to meet with both people during the presentation. I told him it wouldn't have mattered if my husband would have been home, there was no way we were going to make an instant decision on such important and expensive purchases. He decided to measure the house anyway, and gave me an estimate. When I called my husband and told him what the sales person had said, he asked why I even had him stay to measure, I replied that I just wanted another estimate to compare to the others we received. Pricing was slightly higher than the other estimates, but I had made up my mind with his statement of needing an immediate answer, there was no way Axberg would get the job anyway.

The question that we ask all of our customers during the estimating process is: “Once I answer all of your questions and share my information with you and get the price right, is there anything keeping you from making a yes or no decision today (and no is a perfectly acceptable answer)?” This question is printed on our comfort survey and provides valuable information to us. We are not a high pressure sales company – if customers plan to take days, weeks, or even months to reach their decision, we want to know that so that we do not bother them with check-in calls or make them feel pressured in any way. We are not insisting on an immediate answer, we are inquiring as to the timeline of the homeowner’s decision making process. This also helps us to plan our installation workflow to make sure that we are reserving spaces in our installation schedules for homeowners who are making immediate decisions and in urgent need of new equipment. We share a tremendous amount of information with homeowners during this initial meeting, to which we devote a lot of time and is done at no cost to the homeowner. It is in the homeowner’s best interest that everyone involved in the decision making process is there to ask questions and learn about their choices. That said, we understand that conflicting schedules can sometimes make this impossible, and we do schedule appointments without all homeowners present. Our ultimate goal is to educate our customers about every option and answer all of their questions, and that is easiest to accomplish when everyone involved in the process is present when we meet. We’re sorry to hear that you were unhappy with our presentation, and we will look into ways of improving the process for the future. Thank you for your feedback.

I like the amount of experience that they had. They had a lot of credentials and were very knowledgeable on what they were doing. In comparison to the other companies in the area, they are far more qualified on paper which was a good starting point. The workers did a good job and finished the job pretty quickly. The air conditioning part is running fine. I tried using the furnace and noticed some noise. I have to call them back. Updated: Axberg came and investigated the noises and resolved the issue all under warranty which was great. Updated: Had an issue about a year later with the condenser in the unit cracking and leaking out all my freon. Axberg came out, took a look at it and replaced the condenser unit. They were very up front about what the issue was, explained it to me and gave me some options to fix the problem. Again, all under a warranty they continue to stand by. Overall I would 100% recommend these guys to anyone looking for a HVAC replacement.

My air conditioner was not working. I called on Monday and they got an appointment for the following day. The friendly guy arrived on time. Unfortunately it was something I should have figured out myself, but didn't. It ended up being a circuit breaker. It cost me $80. Stupid mistake on my part but I'd definitely use them again.

So far they have been great. We chose them because of their ratings and recommendations. The quality was excellent and they had also left the house perfect. There was nothing to clean up and it looked better than they got here. They actually did a little fixing on some pieces that we didn't really care for the looks of, and they made it look better. They were out here when they said they would be for the estimate and job. We had no complaints on anything so far, and we also felt that we got a good price. They weren't the cheapest price, but that was not what we were going for.

Our air conditioner failed in the heat of the summer. The furnace was also becoming unreliable. We got 3 estimates for replacement equipment. Axberg's price was the lowest (87% of the middle price quoted). The work was performed as scheduled soon after we accepted the proposal. Installation was completed within one day as promised. Clean up and quality of workmanship were very satisfactory. There were no additional charges or hidden costs. An Axberg representative followed up in a few days to see if we were satisfied with the installation and showed us in detail how to use the new programmable thermostat. All documentation to support filing for the associated income tax credit was provided in a timely manner.
