They provided an estimate and I was pleased with how quickly they were able to schedule the work. Everything was completed in one day. All the work was neat, clean, smooth, even and level where it was supposed to be. Excellent craftsmanship. The catch basin ring was in the driveway. It was cracking and falling apart where the car went over the ring. After Jan and his team pulled the old ring they not only replaced it. They also fixed the root cause. When they left everything was clean and neat. Other than the improvements, you would have never known they were here. I could not be more pleased with their work!!
Description of Work: There were a number of things that Jan and his team did. They replaced a catch basin ring, replaced some bricks, tuck pointed a few cracks, installed limestone sill on two basement windows and caulked around the front cement stairs.

We are very pleased with the quality of work and service. They were very quick to respond with an estimate. Price was very fair. Once we agreed to the work, they were able to start the following day. I was also please how well they did in matching the existing brick and mortar. Clean up was very good and they were very professional to work with. I will use them in the future and can highly recommend them to anyone look for masonry work.

I have used them before so they always come on time. They always do what they say and they did a nice job. It took them two days, but they did a good job. They are very nearby. They insulate everything and they wrap everything and they clean up. The stuff that they did last year for me made a huge difference so I am assuming a new stuff would be just as good.

Great. Jan found bricks that closely matched the original ones for the replacement work. He even came back and powerwashed the old bricks so that they matched the new ones better. The tuckpointing part went very well, as well. They did their best to avoid crushing plants around the garage.

Jan and Peter did a great job on our chimney and foundation. They explained what was going on to cause our issues and repaired everything within a week of contacting them. Their quote was very competitive and I trusted that they were doing what needed to be done. They were extremely friendly and nice to have around, which is always a great bonus!

it went great. Jan and the crew gave me ample notice, showed up on the day scheduled , on time and jumped right in. They were polite, took the time to answer a few questions and worked extremely hard to get this project knocked out. They worked until dusk and cleaned up the area perfectly.
Description of Work: I recently had a garage built and the GC did a terrible job on the installation of the stone coping. GMR removed the stone cap, added sheet metal drip edges, flashing, pinned the limestone and sealed / caulked all the joints, they also caulked / sealed all the door openings

I called Jan to get an estimate to repair a crack in the foundation, which was letting water into the basement. The crack extended to the bricks, requiring tuckpointing. While he was there, I asked him to look at other sections of our 90-year-old bungalow's brick walls, especially around windows. Jan recommended we tuckpoint the western wall, then do partial tuckpointing above the windows on our southern wall. Jan's estimate for the work was higher than another estimate I got, but he inspired more confidence and had great ratings on Angie's list, so we hired him. We couldn't be happier with the results! Jan, Peter and Michael did an awesome job, blending the new tuckpointing with the existing seamlessly. The house looks like it had a facelift! Jan and his team take real pride in their work, and it shows.

Jan gave us a prompt estimate for the project, and clearly explained the work involved. We couldn?t be happier with the way the work turned out. Our steps and wing walls look brand new. Jan and his partner did meticulous work, and even repaired patches of missing mortar alongside our steps. The work area was thoroughly cleaned before they left, and they were able to complete the project in a few hours. Jan provided honest, great quality work at a competitive price. We would definitely hire him again.

Jan Prusa and his associates did an amazing job overall! After receiving a referral from a roofer and seeing the great reviews on Angies List, I called Jan and he actually came over later that day in the rain and gave me an estimate to have my chimney fixed. He took the time to explain how a chimney was built and what caused the deterioration of the bricks. Layers of the bricks had fallen off. Contact Jan and he will explain..... Jan was very professional, friendly, and patient with my questions. The following Saturday and Sunday, Jan and his two associates tore down the damaged bricks (top half) and repaired the chimney pipe within. Then they rebuilt the chimney brick by brick. It looks amazing! They also repaired several other gaps by the gutters and flashing to make sure it was water tight. I highly recommend Jan and will recommend him to everyone in need of chimney work. Jan and his associates are honest, friendly, professional, knowledgeable, punctual, and did the job for a great price.

Jan and his team did a great job repairing the top of our crumbling chimney as well as tuck-pointing our house. I was concerned as I have seen many chimney cap and brick replacements that look awful as they don?t match the original brick at all. I can honestly say that I have spent several hours staring at the chimney trying to determine where they replaced bricks and still can barely tell. Jan provided a quick estimate and got the work done in exactly the amount of time he said. They left the place cleaner than it was before they came and were just nice guys throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend General Masonry Restoration.

I'd consider myself quite frugal to some of the other reviewers on Angieslist and I have a keen attention to detail. That said, for those in a hurry, I will say this upfront about General Masonry Restoration: * They're VERY affordable. They may give you the best bang for your buck. * They're extremely punctual. * They're available to discuss your issues. * They were responsive to my needs and pretty flexible. * They're NOT pushy and won't try to upsell you on things you're not interested in. * They're honest. * They may be able to do your project in short notice. They could for me in freezing MARCH weather! For those who have time to kill - enjoy... My project was EMERGENCY SITUATION that needed to be done IMMEDIATELY and it went EXTREMELY WELL. It was, by far, the BEST experience I've had with any contractor on Angie's List. I was in the middle of a roofing project, IN THE MIDDLE OF FEBRUARY, when the contractor I worked with mentioned that the parapet walls were in serious distress and that the project couldn't be completed until it was completely rebuilt from the ground up. At first, I was in disbelief... until the roofer pulled a brick straight out of the mortar with little effort, and crushed it in his barehands like Superman! WOW. Apparently, over the past 100 years, water was creeping through the limestone tops, freezing, and causing the bricks to absorb and expand -essentially turning them back to powder. I was originally going to have the roofer's use one of their guys for the parapet wall rebuild... until they gave me an estimate ABOVE $9000 for the masonry work - NO WAY. I then scoured Angieslist for an appropriate replacement, and that's how I found General Masonry Restoration. The reviews were adequate and I invited them to come in for a survey/estimate - along with several other contractors. Jan and his company were punctual, and very personable - I could see myself forming more of a friendship with these guys in addition to a professional relationship. Unlike many contractors, they didn't try to upsell me on other materials and were fair in their assessment. Their estimate was well under the $9000 I was originally given by my roofer - it was also the best offer on the table after fielding 6 other options....they beat the other offers by SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. As such, I awarded them the contract. Because I was still dealing with the roofing project, I needed them to get started right away (like a week after the contract was presented and signed!!!). Surprisingly, they were able to meet my demands and went straight to work. Because I had the new roof, i was adamant that Jan's team were attentive in their work, and clean. I didn't want to see a $15,000 roof damaged BEFORE the roof was completed. Surprisingly, Jan's team was EXTREMELY QUIET and efficient at their craft. They moved swiftly to tear down and rebuild the parapets and I believe the project only took 3 or 4 days total. The results were spectacular! Even though Jan did a LOT of work, the roof looked was SPARKLING! It looked as if I were on the roof of a brand new building. I'm EXTREMELY pleased with the results - and I was pleasantly surprised that the project was under-budget and on time (even given the tight deadline)! I definitely will have General Masonry Restoration do a few other projects in the near future (like my garage and maybe fence posting. If you don't give GMR a chance to review your project, you're going to be missing out!

Jan was great. I have a 100 year old brick house and our front porch support column has been sagging for years. Time to get it fixed. He came by around 6:00pm in the week and inspected the job and provided a quote that was fair and reasonable. He completed the job less that 5 days later. He showed up early, provided me with an estimate of how long the job would take (3-4 hours) and completed the job start to finish in less than four hours. He cleaned up brilliantly too. He has all the right tools and materials. He was very respectful of the property and the siding and basically did everything he could to ensure nothing existing was damaged. I have more tuck poiunt work to do and Jan will get my business. Hire him. He's good.

Jan Prusa, owner of General Masonry Restoration of Park Ridge, IL gave a prompt estimate for repairing and replacing damaged exterior and interior water damaged brickwork and masonry blocks. I split the job in half, having the exterior work done first to prevent any additional water. Jan and his assistant (never got his name) worked really hard for about half a day replacing the spalled bricks and remortaring so it looks good as new. The price seemed fair to me and Jan offers a cash (cheque) discount option, as well as the Angie's List coupon on his listing. At some point in the near future I will have the team repair the much more extensive interior damage. The team were also friendly and did not mind my young dog.

HIRE HIM!!!! You'll be very pleased!! Jan was very prompt in returning my call and coming out to give me an estimate. It took me a while to get back to him, but when I did, he returned my call, and came on the weekend to do the job. (It was getting late in the year, and he wanted to get it done while the weather was still warm enough.) We were gone that weekend, and when we returned, the job was done, and the wall looked perfect. I was concerned that the tuckpointing of the gap in the mortar would be noticeable after the repair, but that was not the case. Jan left the worksite looking like he'd never been there. The extra bricks I provided were neatly stacked behind the house, the extension cord was put away, and the ground near the foundation looked undisturbed. Jan also fixed a long horizontal crack in the wall that was not part of the bid, and he did it at no extra charge. I got 2 other bids for this job, and Jan's was the lowest. I usually don't go with the lowest bid, but I went with him because of all the positive reviews on Angie's List. He's honest, courteous, very professional and an expert at what he does.
Description of Work: A corner of our attached, brick garage had dropped a 1/2 inch causing a stairstep crack. After several opinions by structural engineers, we decided to go with the one who said some metal shims in between the foundation and the first row of bricks had expanded and caused 2/3 of the wall to rise (rust jacking). This caused the remaining part of the wall to drop. He suggested we have the shims removed and the cracks tuckpointed. The shims were placed there after a repair that was done after the last drought 25 years ago. There is still a chance that the drop might have been caused by the drought last year, but we were willing to give this a try, and if it happens again, we'll have to do a more extensive structural repair.
