Description of Work: This provider had me mixed up with another customer that apparently didn't pay them for services over 7 years ago! We had everything setup nicely and then on the actual date of service they didn't bother to show. Very unprofessional even when I tried to explain the mix up from there admin staff. Really, look for someone else for appliance repair. There are many more reputable.

Description of Work: We're called in because my dryer was not working. Technician immediately realized it was a total blockage in my venting system. He worked and worked and worked until he got it completely clear! Great job!

Description of Work: Found cause of intermittent noise coming from defective fan blade within freezer of GE refrigerator. Since it was an intermittent noise, it took two service calls to locate and correct but Jim was determined. Have used Jims Appliance before, and will continue to call on them in the future.

My only complaint, also from my husband when he saw the bill, was the charge for a service call in addition to the labor, parts and diagnosis for the stove. I would have liked a charge for labor to include the service fee. I understand the service fee if nothing was fixed, but not in addition to labor. This may be common practice but I wasn't thrilled with it. I didn't complain to the company though.
Description of Work: My washing machine was leaking so I called Jim's App. I chose them mainly because they were very local and rated highly on AL. I like to support local businesses when I can. My stove doesn't ignite so I asked if they would look at that too when I called. No problem. They came out the same day. My washer had something caught in a part causing the problem, so they replaced the part which they had in stock on the truck. He did not make a mess, showed me exactly what was wrong and fixed it immediately. He looked at my stove, diagnosed the problem and got me a quote to fix it. I am waiting to fix the stove but I now know how much it will cost when the time is right to do it. He was able to do all of that within an hour at my request so I would not be late picking up my child from school.

 + -1 moreThe spin cycle on my washer was not working properly; the water was not being drained completely plus there was a loud knocking sound coming from the machine. I contacted Jim's Appliance and he came out the next day at the scheduled time. I told him the problem and he knew right away what the cause was; the drive coupling was worn out and needed replacing. He explained the function of the part and why it wears out. Jim gave me an estimate of $135 and said he had the part with him. He repaied the washer within 30 minutes and gave me the old part to keep. Jim was extremely professional, courteous and, I felt, honest.I would not hesitate to call on him again in the future. Great experience! Thanks, Jim!
Description of Work: The drive coupling needing replacing in my washing machine. Jim told me how much it would cost to replace it (parts & labor) and had a replacement part with him. He completed the repair in about 30 minutes.

 + -1 moreThe company sent a technicion the same day, in the PM, per agreement. He took the back off the outside of the freezer, cleaned it, and took the back off the inside of the freezer and determined neither was the problem. Dave determined a warped ice/water flap from the ice maker allowed warm air to enter the freezer. He checked for the part, and made arrangements to return and install it, and did so 2 days later. The machine works fine now.

I was especially glad to find someone in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Anglies List seems lacking in that geographical area. I would like to see this area listed separately from the city of Chicago.

 + -1 moreCalled on a Friday and they fit us in for a Saturday visit the next day which was very helpful since we both work. He came in and very quickly diagnosed and fixed the refrigerator problem and had the part needed on hand so it was fixed right on the spot. He then checked out the dryer and fixed that problem and had both items fixed in less than a half hour. He was also very good about fixing both items on the one visit and not charging an additional trip charge. Great service no problems.
Description of Work: We had both a refrigerator that was not cooling at all as well as a dryer that was making a very troublesome noise.

 + -1 moreI had made the appointment a week in advance. The time frame given was noon to 3 pm. I called at 2:40 and left a message to ask about an ETA. Jim called about 10 minutes later to say he was 10 minutes away. When he came. It took him about 10 minutes to determine the problem. I turned off the circuit. He replaced the wire. The circuit was turned back on and it worked. About a 1/2 hour job.
Description of Work: Our dishwasher stopped working in mid-cycle. Jim determined that the ground wire had shorted. He replaced the wire.

 + -1 moreExcellent! Came on time and was very friendly. Explained exactly what he was doing. Showed me parts and explained it was a common problem. Explained how much the part costs and even cleaned inside of dryer and vent. He explained that he likes to know what is wrong when his appliances are broken so he finds it important to explain what he is doing.
Description of Work: Had variable heat coming from dryer and sound like metal rubbing. Changed coils and replaced idler.

 + -1 moreJim came out and found out where I went wrong with my GE Harmony Profile gas dryer. He was unfamiliar with the 2 1/2 yr old machine, but it wasn't necessary. Good choice, and located in the SW Chicago suburbs. Would recommend!
Description of Work: I thought I'd pretty well fixed this myself and ordered the part. I was correct in the diagnosis, but wrong on the re-assembly for testing my repair, and this is where Jim came in to the picture.
