Excellent service from honest and hardworking service professionals. This was the second time we hired this company to provide repair service on the very old appliances we inherited with our house. The first time we hired them to repair our refrigerator, but they were honest enough to tell us they could repair the problem but it would not be worth the money we would spend to repair the refrigerator and they advised us to buy a new one. They charged us a minimal amount of money for the service call. Most recently, we called them because our ancient dryer was making a horrific sound when the drum turned. We needed new drum rollers. The problem was quickly diagnosed and fixed. We are completely satisfied with their work and strongly recommend this comapny.
Description of Work: Replaced dryer drum rollers on our ancient Whirlpool dryer.

Called Bill's after another provider had "fixed" my dryer once (replaced some coils) because it wasn't heating, only to have it stop heating after 1 use and then of course it was another part that needed replaced. So I assumed they had incorrectly assessed the problem the first time and wanted another opinion. Bill's service technician arrived promptly and did end up with the same assessment at the other company, but could order, receive, and install the part more quickly and for significantly less than the other. They promptly returned a few days later to install the part and get my dryer back up and heating. The technician was very helpful to explain the issue fully and was extremely polite. Would definitely call Bill's again!

I am pretty unhappy with this service provider. He didn't have the tools he needed with him, and in any event he didn't seem to understand how to fix my dishwasher, which still is not working. He told me all I needed was to clean some stuff out of the bottom of the dishwasher. He did this -- it took him a few minutes -- but then he left before the dishwasher cycle was finished so he didn't make sure it was working. It wasn't. There was still dirt and streaks all over the dishes. I called him right away (it was a Saturday morning) and left a message saying the dishwasher was still not working. I didn't hear back from him until 4 or 5 that same day, when he told me he would drop off a "cleaning tablet" the following week for my dishwasher. I told him I wasn't happy with this and that he should have made sure the dishwasher was working before leaving, weekend or no. So he reluctantly agreed to come back the next day (Sunday). In the meantime, I went out and bought some liquid dishwasher soap that he said was needed to make the dishwasher work correctly. (This seemed odd, since it used to work fine with powder dishwasher soap, but whatever. It didn't work.) Bill showed up with his "cleaning tablet" on Sunday and started the dishwasher and left, again before ensuring that the dishwasher was fixed. Once again, after he left and the cleaning cycle finished, I discovered that the dishwasher was still not working. What am I supposed to do now? Bill insisted before leaving that there was nothing mechanically wrong with the dishwasher, but this doesn't seem possible, as there is still gunk and residue all over my dishes. Now I am out $128 and have to start over again with a new repairman. I definitely wouldn't hire this guy again. He was pleasant enough, but didn't seem interested in making sure the job got done right. Once I gave him the check, that was the end of that. I am pretty mad.
Description of Work: I hired Bill principally to fix my portable dishwasher but also asked him to oil my furnace (boiler), which needs to be done every year at the start of the heating season. He cheerfully accepted both jobs, but was unable to fix the dishwasher (see below). I am not sure about the boiler -- he seemed to know what he was doing when he started pulling stuff out of it (the boiler), but then didn't have a match on him to re-light the pilot. I had to leave my 2-year-old with her big brother and run to the store for matches in the rain. (This was annoying.) When I returned, he told me he had lit the pilot using a piece of paper. I haven't tried turning the heat on yet because I don't know anything about furnaces and because based on what happened with my dishwasher (see below), I am not confident that the boiler got put back together correctly. I might have it double-checked before using it.

Bill is AWESOME!!! We have used his services several times in the past two years. Bill often answers the phone himself, and is prompt in returning calls. Both he and his protege Melvin will give you a heads-up before arriving. Both are experts at diagnosing problems, as they did with our central air. I was expecting a costly repair, but it was a small part. I trust them both implicitly. During the recent floods, Bill came out to check our basement appliances to see if they were OK. Thankfully, they were. He's been here for furnace repair, cleaning out dryer vents, vacuuming out the central air, etc. He definitely "our guy".

After a water heater was installed by others, we had trouble with our dishwasher leaving reisdue on the dishes. Bill came out the next day, and cleaned out akk hot water access points, and said the solinoid was marginal. If the clean up he did was not sufficient, he would order the fairly expensive part. We needed to do so, and his follow up charge for the intall when it came in was very reasonable. When it still wasn't cleaning perfectly, he came out at no charge, and suggested a dishwasher cleaner. He said to try it a couple times, and finally, I go my dishwasher back. He was right all along, and he did not charge a huge hourly each time he came out, a policy others have that makes it cheaper to buy a new dishwasher.
Description of Work: Cleaned dishwasher, cleaned and later installed solinoid, and suggested running cleaner trhough to flush out system completely.

One service guy came out- then order the part and came back a week later to install and fix it. In the process of fixing the control pannel the latch got damaged so he had to come out a 3rd time to fix it. Overall I thought he did a good job. by the 3rd time out everything worked. He clean up afterward- which was nice. It bothered me a little that I got charged twice for a service call and for technician time. Overall they did a good job.

Great experience. We will definitely use Bill's again and recommend his service to our friends.
Description of Work: The technician from Bill's diagnosed issues with multiple appliances in our home in a thorough and professional manner. He checked out and repaired the dishwasher. He looked at two different washing machines and advised us on our options with both machines. We opted not to repair the one washing machine because but he would have done it for a fair price had we so desired. He checked out our central A/C and tested the pressure in all three units. He was great and well worth the reasonable amount that we paid.

My refrigerator was no longer cooling and I was concerned I would have to go to the expense to replace it. The last repairman who serviced it (four years ago) said it was not worth fixing and I should just get a new one. I called Bill's Appliance Repair and they agreed to send a repairman out that same day. Then, just before he was to arrive, the power went out. I called to cancel the appointment and Bill said he would not charge for the service call, he rescheduled me for early the next morning. Just after I canceled the service call, the power went back on. The repairman was there that afternoon and he repaired the refrigerator. I was impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of both the office and the repairman. The price seemed reasonable to me. I would most definitely use this company again and I would not hesitate to recommend this company to friends and neighbors.

He was very prompt and very knowledgable. He returned my call immediately. He sent his associate to my house the same day. He correctly assessed the problem on my large, expensive, built-in refrigerator. He installed a temporary fix until the part could be ordered, saving all my food from spoiling. He called when the part came in and installed it the next day. All for a fair price.

Over all, I got my washer fixed like new for a reasonable charge and Bill cleans up after himself so you wouldn't even know he was there. You can't ask for a better job.
Description of Work: My washer was making a terrible grinding noise. When Bill arrived the washer was of course quiet. Bill spent quite a bit of time trying to elicit the sound again to no avail. A couple of days later my phantom noise was back and he came right over and took the washer appart, he only charged the one service call and it's been quiet since.

Unfortunately, this "seal kit" did not take, and this time I contacted a Sub-Zero approved repair company. They listened to the situation and the action Bill took to try and fix the problem, and in short they were shocked by what I told them. They explained the following: in NO situation should anything other than refrigerant be pushed into the cooling system... this inevitably will clog the system preventing the circulation of the coolant; also the need for 'recharging' a cooling system is just a symptom of a problem involving a leak. This other company was required to remove all the refrigerant TWICE (they had to come back) and they replaced several parts in the refrig cooling system (WHICH were still under warranty, by the way, which Bill should have known) because they had become clogged with the sealant. Also, what most folks don't realize is that the chemical/refrigerant in the cooling system of the frig is the MAIN source of ozone depletion. And, Bill most likely violated some laws by just refilling my system WITHOUT fixing the real problem. I'd seriously recommend you do NOT contact Bill to service your Sub-Zero refrigerator... call an approved/certified company; they will be well-versed in warranty repair issues and will fix the problem and not just the symptom. I essentially paid Bill to do something he should have never performed... the Sub-Zero final cost may have been $300 more than Bill's unnecessary work... and definitely worth the cost since the Sub-Zero guys were almost ready to tell me that I needed to buy a new refrigerator if they couldn't remove the junk/sealant Bill had put in the system.
Description of Work: He was asked to return to follow-up on the original problem I had with my Sub-Zero refrigerator (this evaluation takes into consideration three separate service calls to fix the original problem for which I prematurely evaluated with an 'A' on Angie's List). He proceeded to "recharge" the cooling system. Also, this time he suggested that my cooling system needed to be sealed and so he also performed a "seal kit", which circulates a sealant throughout the system in an attempt to plug any small holes.

Not well. I've essentially had to pay twice for a basic repair. I called Bill to see what could be done, given that the microwave lasted all of 6 months, and he said that he'd essentially need to do the same service, and replace all of the parts again for the same price (i.e. $361). Instead, I paid an authorized Kitchenaid service provider to come out and repair the microwave (for a second time). Upon arrival, the authorized service provider determined that Bill apparently installed the wrong sized capacitor manufactured by GE, not Kitchenaid, and, also, the wiring they did apparently caused a short. The authorized service provider also said that it appeared that the capacitor they installed may have been used, not new. I'm disappointed with the quality of Bill's service.
Description of Work: Our Kitchenaid microwave stopped working. I asked Bill to come out to repair it. he came out, inspected the microwave, and determined that a new magnatron, capacitor and diode needed to be replaced. It took several weeks to get the replacement parts. He eventually installed the replacement parts and the microwave worked from August 2009 until it died again in February 2010.
