Description of Work: Bill fixed my furnace this last winter. The igniter needed to be replaced. I think it cost about $180. And then in April he sent a co-worker who replaced a valve on my stove. The oven wouldn't turn off. That was about $150. I have used bill for 10 or 15 years and he is always punctual and I can depend on him to do the job and do it well. I have every confidence in his ability to do the job. I would highly recommend him.

Description of Work: Bill came over three times to diagnose the problem with my heat and (attempt to) fix it. Unfortunately, the problem with the zone valve that regulates heat to my condo unit cannot be fixed independently and it's going to take some coordination with other owners and building management ... Anyway, Bill only charged me $65 for the initial visit. The other two times he came by, he refused payment. I have spoken to other unit owners who have paid upwards of $100 to be told virtually the same thing as I was. (Others even reported that they were charged for thermostats they didn't really need.) I feel fortunate I went with Bill (whom I found through Angie's List). He is patient and honest. In the spring, when this old building gets it together, I'm only trusting Bill to do the work that needs to be done.

Description of Work: My gas dryer was not heating up. The tech quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad fuse and quickly replaced it from parts he carried on his service truck. He also cleaned lint out of the line and double checked for appropriate venting to the outside of the house.

Description of Work: Replaced ice maker. When it didn't work after 2 wks, I called again. Problem was in the plumbing; a different company's rep, addressing a heating system problem, had turned off the water supply to the fridge. Second visit with thorough diagnostic was done by Bill's at no additional charge, even though problem was not related to ice maker installation. Machine works fine now.

+ -1 moreBILL WAS PLEASANT, PUNCTUAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE, AND HONEST. WE WERE ABLE TO ASK QUESTIONS AND GET STRAIGHTFORWARD INFORMATION AND ADVICE. BILL REALLY WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DIDN'T PAY FOR UNNECESSARY WORK. WE WILL DEFINITELY CALL HIM FOR ANY FUTURE APPLIANCE REPAIRS!
Description of Work: BILL REPAIRED A SIDE-BY-SIDE REFRIGERATOR THAT WAS NO LONGER WORKING. WE HAD BEEN TOLD BY ANOTHER COMPANY THAT THE COMPRESSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $450.00. WHEN BILL CAME TO OUR HOME WE BOTH DISCOVERED THAT, INEXPLICABLY, SEVERAL REFRIGERATOR PARTS HAD BEEN REMOVED BY THE PREVIOUS COMPANY. AS A RESULT, BILL WAS UNABLE TO CHECK THE COMPRESSOR FUNCTIONING THAT DAY, BUT MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO COME BACK WITH THE EQUIPMENT TO DO SO. HE WAS WILLING TO COME BACK THE VERY NEXT DAY, WHICH WAS A SATURDAY. BILL DETERMINED THAT THE COMPRESSOR WAS FINE, AND RECHARGED THE FRIG. WITH FREON. IT WORKS! HE ALSO CHECKED OUR DRYER FOR US, WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE ANY REPAIR.

+ -1 moreI WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH BILL. HE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL. I DID PURCHASE A NEW DISHWASHER AND HAD IT INSTALLED BY THE COMPANY. A FEW DAYS LATER, I DECIDED I WANTED A PORTABLE DISHWASHER FOR MY DOWNSTAIRS AREA, BUT I THOUGHT IT NEEDED SPECIAL PLUMBING AND ELECTRICITY, SO I CALLED BILL. HE, ONCE AGAIN, CALLED ME BACK PROMPTLY AND STOPPED OVER THAT DAY TO LOOK AT THE SITUATION AND TELL ME HIS OPINION. HE SAID IT WAS POSSIBLE TO SET IT UP AND TOLD ME TO GET THE DISHWASHER AND CALL HIM BACK WHEN I WAS READY FOR THE INSTALLATION. I ASKED HIM HOW MUCH FOR HIS VISIT, HE SAID, HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING YET. I PLAN TO CALL HIM ON MONDAY TO DO THE INSTALLATION. THIS GUY IS VERY, VERY HONEST AND RELIABLE. I AM SO GLAD FOR ANGIE'S LIST. OTHERWISE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN THROWING DARTS AT MY PHONE BOOK, OR SPINNING A ROULETTE WHEEL, NOT KNOWING WHAT I WAS GETTING INTO, AND PRAYING THAT I WOULDN'T GET GOUGED.
Description of Work: THE DISHWASHER WAS MAKING A WEIRD NOISE, BUT NOT PUMPING WATER IN TO WASH THE DISHES. BILL RETURNED MY CALL WITHIN A HALF A DAY AND CAME OVER THE NEXT DAY. HE THOROUGHLY INSPECTED AND TESTED VARIOUS COMPONENTS WHILE MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND I WATCHED. HE DETERMINED THE PROBLEM TO BE A FAULTY MOTOR AND TOLD ME THAT THE MOTOR MIGHT COST ALMOST AS MUCH AS A NEW DISHWASHER. HE CALLED HIS SUPPLIER OF PARTS IN FRONT OF ME, THEN REPORTED THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $220 JUST FOR THE PART. IT WAS HIS OPINION THAT I JUST GET A NEW DISHWASHER SINCE IT WAS OLDER AND LESS EFFICIENT. I ASKED HIM WHAT KIND HE WOULD RECOMMEND. HE TOLD ME THE BRANDS THAT WERE MORE RELIABLE AND THE FEATURES THAT I MIGHT NEED DEPENDING ON THE USE. HE DOES NOT SELL DISHWASHERS BUT SAID IF I WANTED HIM TO INSTALL IT, BUT USUALLY THEY CAN BE INSTALLED BY THE COMPANY THAT DELIVERS IT.

Description of Work: DISHWASHER WASN'T CLEANING VERY WELL AND WAS LEAVING SPOTS. ON TOP OF THIS, THE DISHWASHER (A HIGH-END KITCHEN AID) WAS EXCEPTIONALLY LOUD, AND ALWAYS HAD BEEN (HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY LOOKED AT BY THE INSTALLERS AND A HANDYMAN WITH NO SOLUTION). BILL CAME OUT THE DAY AFTER I CALLED. HE COULD NOT SPECIFICALLY FIND THE SOURCE OF THE SPOTTING OR WASHING PROBLEMS (BUT MAGICALLY FIXED IT ANYWAY BY CLEANING EVERYTHING OUT). THEN DETERMINED THAT THE NOISE WAS BEING CAUSED BY A STRANGE HARMONIC EFFECT IN THE COPPER WATER LINE FEEDING THE DISHWASHER FROM THE BASEMENT. HE REPLACED THAT COPPER LINE WITH A FLEXIBLE LINE 3 DAYS LATER AND EVERYTHING IS NOW PERFECT. BRAVO!
