Arrived a little early for appointment. Was unable to do the requested work as my circuit breakers were at capacity and it would be a very involved/expensive project to add additional breakers. Only charged me for the diagnostic call. I had been quoted a price of $195 for the first hour and a half and $86 per hour after that.

Intercom system wasn't working for all units. Guys came out to look at the problem, ordered the parts, and then came back in a few days to install everything. Took the time to make sure all the settings were to our liking (buzz duration, volume, etc.) Not sure the entire panel needed replacing (hard to believe,) so maybe we overpaid, but the end result is that the intercom system has been working flawlessly since they performed their work.

We continue to have excellent service from this company. Our technicians, George and Eugene, were pleasant and extremely efficient, working quickly and neatly in both locations. They were on time (and called ahead), put down drop cloths at both sites, did not waste a single minute, completed the work perfectly, and didn't leave one speck of dirt behind. This is a very professional company and we will use them for all of our electrical needs.

I like these people. All of their crews have been polite, either on time or called to let me know they were running late. They did the work in the time estimated, and cleaned up afterwards. I'm not sure how they rate on price. My only other experience with an electrician was outrageous compared to this company, so I would guess they are good. But we did not ask for competitive bids on either project.
Description of Work: Replaced elderly, malfunctioning timer for exterior and interior hallway and stairwell lights with a photoelectric cell. Also came over a few months ago and repaired faulty power line from main building to garage.

The actual services performed were excellent and to my satisfaction. But because of the damage done to walls one of these guys said he did drywall work on the side. I of course needed the holes fixed so I was interested. The jerk never called. Typical contractor bull.

Gheorghe called prior to arrival, showed up on time, and kept me informed every step of the way. He discussed the proper height of one chandelier with me and explained an issue with our sconces. When the dining room chandelier proved too heavy for a one-man installation, he called another electrical services electrician who arrived promptly to help. My painters had previously covered over the ceiling box in the master bedroom, and the electricians located the box and installed the fan. I have other light fixtures on order and will call Electrical Services Group again.

They examined the circuit box and tested the wiring and circuit breakers with all lamps and other electrical items in my apartment on. They tested wiring and wall outlet used for the A/C in question. They tested the A/C plug, exterior wiring prior to removing the A/C housing. They went the extra mile, took a look at the machine itself and diagnosed that. Just call them!
Description of Work: Problem: an air conditioner (through the wall model) would occasionally trip the circuit breaker, sometimes even after an hour or two. Was the problem electrical, or instead a faulty machine? Way, way past warranty. The servicemen diagnosed all the electrical is ok and here's where I got more than my money's worth: They removed the machine's front housing and found the machine can't cycle dependably due to a faulty compressor or if not the compressor, a relay. What a great help! I was expecting only to know if all the electric is OK. These people are great.

Excellent experience. I was worried about how our house had been wired and was expecting bad news. Dorin was polite and professional, fixed a few little things that needed tweaking and reassured me that the overall picture was good. He also did not charge me for the full first hour fee, which I very much appreciated and which will ensure that I will use them again when I need electrical work done. My one and only complaint is that he was two hours early and did not call to let me know. I really wanted to sleep in that day!

WITHIN A MONTH AFTER THAT A HANDYMAN WAS OVER AND HE NOTICED THE SAME BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE DINING ROOM AREA. HE REMOVED AND INSPECTED THE DIMMER SWITCH AND WIRES AND IT LOOKED AS IF THERE HAD BEEN A FIRE. THE DIMMER BOX WAS CRACKED AND BURNT AND PIECES HAD BROKEN OFF. IT APPEARS THAT AT MINIMUM ESG MISDIAGNOSED THE SOURCE OF THE BURNING SMELL, WHICH COULD HAVE HAD DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCES. HE FURTHER NOTED INCONSISTENCIES IN THE WAY THE WIRE REPLACEMENT/ WRAPPING WAS DONE, SEEMING TO REFLECT THAT ONE OF THE TWO ELECTRICIANS HAD DONE A "SLOPPY JOB". I CONTACTED TOM HESKIN BY EMAIL AND HE REPLIED WITH A LETTER DISAVOWING ANY RESPONSIBILITY. HE ALSO SAID THAT THE DIMMER WAS PROBABLY UNDERSIZED FOR THE LOAD, WHICH THE ELECTRICIANS HAD NOT MENTIONED. IN A SUBSEQUENT PHONE CONVERSATION WITH MYSELF AND MY HANDYMAN, MR. HESKIN HAD A RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL TONE. HE SAID THE HANDYMAN'S COMMENTS WERE INVALID BECAUSE HE HAD NO FORMAL TRAINING AS AN ELECTRICIAN.
Description of Work: THE WORK WAS PERFORMED ON 8/3/06. THE PRIMARY TASK WAS TO INVESTIGATE A BURNING SMELL IN THE DINING ROOM DINING AREA. SECONDARY TASK WAS TO INSPECT ALL OUTLET/SWITCH DEVICES FOR PROBLEMS AND INSPECT/REPLACE ANY DAMAGED WIRES. THERE WERE 2 ELECTRICIANS. THEY REPLACED A MAJORITY OF THE OUTLET/SWITCH DEVICES. THEY IDENTIFIED A HALOGEN LAMP IN THE LIVING ROOM AS THE CAUSE OF THE BURNING SMELL BASED UPON METER READINGS AND AT THEIR RECOMMENDATION I IMMEDIATELY REMOVED THE LAMP AND THREW IT AWAY. On 8/3/06, while on site, our electrician did inform the member his dimmer needed replacement. He opted not to have it replaced & informed us he would take care of it. By informing him of his evident problem, I am unsure of our misdiagnoses. We went out to inform him he had cloth wiring throughout & his home needed to be rewired. We repaired some cloth wiring that was extremely hazardous at the time. That was all he wanted. We noted our comments on the job ticket & provided a copy to him. On 8/23/06, we received a letter from him where he stated, "I saw the original condition of the dimmer switch. It is now in worse shape." He went on to say his friend, the handyman though since we inspected the dimmer, we caused it to malfunction. Based on the fact the dimmer melted, I informed him he had overloaded it. If you exceed the wattage rating of a dimmer, it will burn up, melt, or get extremely hot. Because of that, I suggested he obtain a higher wattage dimmer. The handyman stated that some of the electrical tape we used to wrap the outlets wasn't secure. Because of this our work was sloppy. We didn't rewire this member's home. Per his request, we "inspected" his existing wiring. We informed him he needed to have his wiring & dimmer replaced. He refused both options. I do admit I got upset with the handyman's reasoning. I also asked if he had any electrical schooling whatsoever, & he didn't.

ESG's technician showed up early, assessed a complex problem, and explained several options. The electricians were professional, polite, and cleaned up after themselves. The work was not cheap, but I could see the difficulty of an old building, and this repair was beyond the abilities of a previous electrician.
Description of Work: Troubleshooting ceiling fan/light (shorted cloth wiring connected to new wiring) and an electrical outlet in kitchen. The building is old and previous owner appears to have installed new electrical inappropriately. After hearing the options, I decided to go with a partial fix for now. The ceiling fan/light works fine and the outlet has been fixed. I received an estimate for a complete rewiring of all pipe-run electrical in the unit ($7000) which I will defer for now.

I spoke to Anna to schedule an appointment for service. She thoroughly explained all fees and was able to accommodate my scheduling request. The office called a week prior to the appointment and rescheduled the technician's arrival time, which was OK because of the advanced notice. Dorin called us the morning of the appointment to confirm, arrived on time and quickly assessed the problem. He was courteous and professional. He also cleaned the area upon completion.
Description of Work: Garage power was not working. Had to run new 1/2 inch pipe and line from the garage to house panel. Installed a new light fixture, switch, outlet and removed the old supply from the garage. The entire job took about 3.5 hours.

First of all-nice guys, good work. But if you are a homeowner, you will get hosed. I needed a simple reworking of some existing wiring in my rehab and wanted an electrician to do it right. First visit, 2 guys, for assessment, 1 hour-$195. They were not there to work, so why do I pay for two guys (electrician and apprentice)? They estimate 3-4 hours, come back the next week, end of the day. The work is essentially done in 2 hours, but they milk it for three. I'm not being crabby-I used for work for a contractor, I know what it looks like. It was the last stop of the day, and it was going to last until four no matter what. They also tried to say they had arrived earlier, but had called when they arrived so the time was recorded. I even supplied all of the switches, outlets, and boxes--still hit w/ $165 in supplies. For 10 ft of pipe, a few connectors, and 15 ft of 3-wire @ $3 per foot per wire! So 3-wire bx=$9 ft! Markup, sure, but this is crazy--500' of 12g wire is about $70=21x markup.
Description of Work: Kitchen rehab--Branched off a separate circuit for refrigerator in box from existing wire, combined circuits for disposal & d/w, changed bx cable w/ conduit pipe, removed empty breaker. Installed switches and outlets.

Doran did excellent work; had creative work-around solutions. Mike was very responsive and pleasant. They both did excellent work on the hottest days of the summer! When we found one thing left undone, they came and took care of it in timely manner. We wished Tom (the owner who did the initial consult) to have a more courteous and helpful disposition and not simply worry about how long the job is taking.

This company responded so fast to my inquiry that it made my head spin. I called on a Wednesday morning, they came that afternoon to inspect the house and showed up on Saturday morning to start the project. They did this work on one of the hottest weekends of the summer but got the job done. I know the price was a little high but I also know I paid for good work done in a timely fashion (and I did not miss any time at work) with enough people to get the job done in two days - they started at 6:30 AM on Saturday and were finished by 4:15 PM pm Sunday. The crew was friendly, worked hard, and responded to my questions and comments. They did their best to keep the house neat even though they had a hard job wiring this 81 year old house. They cleaned up after themselves and took the trash out to the alley. I will use this company again if there is ever a need to do so.
Description of Work: Rewired entire electrical service in house. Increased electrical service to house. Moved electric meter and changed entry into house to meet current code. Installed new circuit box. Installed new ceiling fan and wired control switch. Installed 6 new flourescent ceiling fixtures. Installed 3 undercabinet flourescent fixtures.

The electrician was very polite and nice. He had to run off to another appointment; maybe he thought this job would take less than 3 hours. He forgot to give me the Angie's List discount, but we will get the discount when he comes back to do more work (eventually). He did a good job!
Description of Work: Checked all outlets on 2nd floor of our new house (new to us...built in 1903). Installed 3-light track lighting in closet. Was here for 3 hours total. Will need to get them back eventually after we buy some more fixtures.

ESG was able to determine that an outage we were experiencing was due to a Com Ed problem and not with our house. They were prompt, polite and thorough. Despite Com Ed's assurances that there was a short in our house, ESG found that the problem was not on our end. We will definately use them again.
Description of Work: Diagnosis of no power due to transformer malfunction.
