It went perfectly. Luke and his assistant were on time, professional, and very efficient. They removed my old furnace and humidifier and installed new ones in no time. He was also able to include a baffle in order to reduce the noise in our living room when the unit turns on. Everything was completely cleaned up afterward as well. He also called the next day to make sure everything was functioning correctly, which it was. All around, an excellent experience!

Worst customer service experience ever. I know he will respond to this, but don't even bother to read his alibi. When I scheduled the appointment I was told that there is a $49 charge for coming down to my house. I was fine with that as I did not want to waste his time or mine. Shows up on time, which is excellent. Then it starts The $49 was only for showing up on time! He told me I would need to pay him another $300 to do a diagnosis of the power outage in the garage (and it would go toward the repair). I was like wow!! $300 to do a diagnosis - he did this in less than 30 minutes -- which is a rate of $600/hour I asked him to go ahead expecting that he knows his job well. Also asked him to install three motion sensor lights. He calls me back later to say that the power outage can be fixed only by changing the whole line from the panel all the way to the detached garage. He said he does not have an estimate for me as he is still working on it and would leave it at my house. He would not be able to complete it today, which was the main reason for this service call. He fixed the three motion sensor lights. When I reached home, I was in for a shock. To fix the power outage -- the total cost is $1700. Also, has left my garage door open. The motion sensor lights have been fixed, but there is still some caulking/putty to be done and he clearly mentioned in the paper left behind that I need to do it otherwise the 'Warranty is VOID" . He did not bother to do that cause that is not "his" job.I called him about it and he says, he is not allowed by the state of IL to do the caulking/putty and suggests that I can google a handyman to do it. I told that the ONLY reason I have an "Angieslist" membership is so that I know that a experienced person is working on my house and not anyone. His suggestion tells me that I should not be paying for my Angieslist membership as I can easily find people by Googling. If I was Angieslist I would be worried that some their vendors like these are recommending "Google" to find handyman and electricians. Angieslist would lose customers for sure like this.

Electrician scoped job and provided me with quote of $571.33. Although I asked for breakdown by materials and labor, I was advised they (Brilliant Elec) just quoted on whole job. I had paid $99 for Angie's Deal worth $200. That reduced price to $371.33 (+$99 Angie Coupon). Not knowing time and materials and not having gone out for other quotes (my error), I OK'd job to be done. From phone calls by electrician when he arrived at job and to me when he was finished, I estimate the time to complete the job to be about 1 hour and 11 minutes. I effectively paid $470.33 for the entire job. If I estimate the cost of approximately 12 feet of conduit, wire, and miscellaneous connectors at $70, then I paid $400 for a little over an hours worth of labor. Now, I don't know if there are travel costs included in this. I didn't know how long it would take to do the job before I gave the go-ahead. Summary: If I was over-charged, the fault is all mine since I didn't give enough analysis beforehand of what a job like this would cost. The price for the work was given to be before hand and I accepted. On the positive side, the electrician was very professional and courteous and he did an excellent job. If I am accurate at estimating the labor rate, I don't think I could afford to have them in again, though there work is excellent, If the vendor reads this and I have made some incorrect assumptions and calculations, I would be happy to re-review my review of project.

We have found our customers prefer to be given a total cost upfront that is ALL inclusive with no hidden fees. Many years ago ( +20 years, we've been doing this since 1956) we use to bill on an hourly basis/T & M. Customers were upset when their job was not completed in the amount of time they thought it would take. Because of that, we decided it was in our customers' best interest, to provide a fixed price in advance. This way, regardless if it takes 2 hours or 12 hours, the job is completed to the customer's complete satisfaction with no "extra charges". We have formulated our costs based on past installs incorporating average labor hours and materials. We only employ experienced technicians with a minimum of 10 years experience in their industry and most of our employees have been with us for many years. Expertise, professionalism and customer satisfaction come with that. Our customers have no worries of having a "handyman" do their job when we are in their home. It is installed correctly the first time and we provide a full 10 year labor warranty on everything we install. Most other contractors provide a 1 year warranty. We hope this allows you to understand our operations and possibly reconsider calling us again. Please feel free to allow us to quote any future projects so you may compare our prices to others. This is the second time we used them. The first time was at our business and the second was at our condo. The first time they charged us extra, but I didn't fuss because it was cold and I needed service. The second time they gave me quote of $274. After I mentioned that I'm an Art of Barter member, they told me my quote would be raised to $463. It was unethical and unprofessional. When I called to speak to the owner I was ignored the first time and hung up on the second time I called.

My experience with Brilliant Electric was extremely subpar. The only positive I would give them is that they were quick to return phone calls or pickup when calling the office. The major complaints I would have with them are as follows: 1) Their family plan provides discounts, but they have higher prices on parts and labor than any other companies that I have worked with. 2) After their first service call, they came to the house three additional times to "fix" what was not done correctly the time before. When requesting that the same service person come back to the home, I was told 3 times that the person had been fired. This raised a lot of questions, but was disappointing as their tech's were very professional and easy to work with - regardless of the quality of work that was done. 3) Each service call started at minimum of 30 minutes later than estimated, as well as another call that was a 2 hour delay and one no show. 4) Almost all of the issues with the work that was done involved the service tech not knowing what had been done by previous service techs and basically starting from scratch. After bringing this to the management's attention during their last service call I was told that they had already spent too much time and made me feel like I was in the wrong for asking that their previous work be followed up on.

I had an issue in November where my heating went out. I called them and they told me they could get to me by the end of the day, they never showed and never called. The next morning they assured me they would call me within a certain window, I never heard from them. When I called them back they told me they wouldn't be able to get to me until the end of the week. This was an emergency service, I had no heat. I was without heat for almost two days in November. I would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: I have contacted them on three different occasions. Before calling them in November, I had used them to install a humidifier, and they have done an a/c & heating check.

They have done work for me in the past and it has always been good. It was very favorable. I know the owner, Tom. He is very involved and hands-on. Their customer service is good. It is nice when they do what they say in terms of showing up and doing their job. I don't have a lot of comparable price knowledge but I think they are competitive. I could pay less but I might not get the same quality.

It was fine. They came on time and did the work they quoted. We quoted 2 or 3 people and the price seemed fine for the first job. They were definitely in the range. They changed their name after they did the first job. They came when they were supposed to. The price was more than we expected on the second job but we didn't ask for a quote. It seemed quite expensive. Everything is still working. They charge a travel fee which all the companies do in Chicago. It took them a couple of days to come out but it wasn't an emergency.
Description of Work: I used Brilliant Electric Heating & Cooling in 2007 to run electrical from my opener to the light on top of my garage door. The garage door opener worked but the light was just like a pretty fixture because it had no electrical run to it. He figured it out by trying to turn it on and off and putting different lights in it and he found that it wasn't the fixture.They had to run the existing light to the power source in the garage. In 2012 they also removed a dimmer on a ceiling fan and put the fan and the attached light on separate switches. They also fixed a rocker light switch that didn't work.

He was fantastic. He was here within half an hour. He got it going and then he went and got the parts. We had a problem over the weekend. We had come home from out of town, and he said he would be here in half an hour, and he got it started, so that the pipes wouldn't freeze. He then went and got all the parts the next morning, and came and fixed it in 15 minutes. He is highly recommended. He was pleasure to deal with. I would recommend him to family and friends.

He never touched the unit. He used the test results MPower had supplied me with, which defeated the whole purpose of his being there. I wanted a second ( independent ) opinion on what was wrong- he didn't bother to open the unit's casing.

We had a very frustrating experience with this company. Our AC had been turning off in the middle of the night, so we called Brilliant Electric to have someone come take a look at it. After the technician missed the appointment window, my wife called the operator numerous times and was told that he was running behind and would be in touch shortly. When the technician finally arrived, he was very young (nothing wrong with that necessarily, but his inexperience quickly became apparent) and soon announced that everything was working properly after turning on the AC and letting it run for a few minutes. Upon being informed, again, that the problem occurs after running for a few hours, he reluctantly agreed to open the unit up to take a closer look. The technician's observation was that water had leaked to the blower due to a dirty coil. His recommendation was that we replace the entire furnace and AC unit (it is 10 years old). We told him that we did not want to do that, so he then cleaned the coil and indicated that it should clear things up (in fairness, he did indicate that there could be further damage to the blower but that we would not know the extent without running it more). After cleaning the coil for an hour or so with a spray bottle, we were presented with a bill for $478. The total time he was in our house was 2 hours (from 5:30 to 7:30) and he did not replace any parts. When we balked at the price, he agreed to charge us based on the hourly rate....which resulted in the bill being lowered to $334. This still seems like far too much for a coil cleaning. The bigger problem, though, is that the AC was still not working when we woke up this morning. As a result, we will be working with a different company to solve the issue properly.

We appreciate the feedback and are truly sorry that this client didn't feel satisfied by our service. In response, we communicated with out technician and the client about the visit. Their was a leak in the unit which was damaging the blow motor and needed to be cleaned. After cleaning and unclogging the drain the unit was functioning to the best of it's ability without a replacement blow motor, which was advised. Our technician was following company policy with the pricing and tried to be as flexible as possible to help satisfy the customers. Once again, we are sorry about any dissatisfaction.

Had an A/C unit that was not cooling well, the technician serviced it. Actually he only replaced the freon and did not even clean the condenser. That did the trick but I had to clean the condenser myself the next day. Rather than focus on the service required he was clearly on trying to get me to spend significantly more on other things, first he mentioned that the connections were soldered rather than braised which may cause a leak and that we should replace all lines to the A/C for $2000, I spoke with several other A/C repairmen and they said while not the best solder depending upon the job and the solder it may be perfectly fine and regardless, rather that replace the whole line it makes more sense to first determine if an where there is a leak and repair it instead. Second, he said that the attic needed power ventilation and significant new other ventilation which would cost several thousand dollars. The attic is walk in and about 400 square feet in area, I pointed out the huge window covering most of the front wall and said wouldn't it just be easier to open the window and rely on the existing 3 roof vents? He had no answer to that. I feel sorry for anyone getting service from them who don't get a second opinion for the "major" issues they point out.

I am sorry if you did not like the options you were offered, I did review your invoice and found that what our tech stated was right as far as hvac standards go, but every tech has his own view and we like to offer the right options. They quoted a flat fee to fix my kitchen lighting fixture. When they got there, they said it was going to cost double. They did not fix the problem and charged me $150.00 for the service call. They then said they had to order a part and come back and I called 3x and they never resolved the problem. I had another licensed electrician fix the problem for $100.00.

All done well. The serviceman was friendly and professional, very conscientious. I asked for him on the second set of jobs.
Description of Work: I needed an range hood installed with first time wiring, some outlets repaired, a new bathroom fan installed, and garbage disposer wire in.

I contracted this company to install a whole house generator. They seemed to do an okay job with the installation, however there were code violations that the Village found that I felt I should have been warned of. Their price for installing the whole house generator was competitive, however, when they quoted me the price to fix the code violations they were not even close to other vendors. They didn't seem to take as much ownership of the work that they started. I felt like a number instead of a customer that they wanted to establish a long-term relationship with. It was not a horrible experience, but they did not earn my loyalty either.
Description of Work: Installed a whole house generator.

I response to this client's comments, we are very sorry to hear that you are not truly satisfied with the work performed. After our inspection of your electrical we had informed you that there were code violations and would not pass the inspection, so to say you were not warned is not an accurate statement, we indeed had informed you about the electrcial issues we found and gave you a quote in writing also the office manager and owner of the company contacted you directly to go over the issues several times, but we were told you wanted to go with another company that would do he work cheaper, we do try our best to be competitive but pride ourselves in quality work and in doing so we cannot always be the lowest company as we do take our time and do a thorough job. We always want our customers to know they are our top priority and we do appreciate the business they provide as they are the reason we are here and still in operation, our office staff does try to be very responsive to problems and customer concerns. We would hope that customers like to work with us because of the quality of service they are provided and the workmanship that goes along with a quality warranty on all our work, we can give that because we believe in our techs and our company. We would love to work with him again in the future.

My sister called to schedule the appointment and I showed up to meet the electrician. An hour after they were supposed to be there, I called and they said they never had us in the system for an appointment. I said ok mistakes happen and we agreed on rescheduling for the next day. The next day, I had an appointment for between 1 and 3. At 3 I called back, and they told me they don't schedule appointments within 2 hours and that it would've been between 1-4 (not true). Either way, they said weather was bad and they would be there an hour maybe hour and fifteen minutes later. After 2 tiresome hours, it was 5pm and hadn't heard anything. Needless to say, I wasted 2 afternoons of my time and was given the run around. There are too many people and businesses looking for work that I wouldn't waste my time with this inconsiderate worthless company.

First of all we would like to apologize for any inconveniences that we created to our customer. We work in the service industry and unfortunately we never know what we are walking into until our electrician is there and performs his electrical inspection, sometimes it is a quick fix but others we experience critical situations where it could be a danger to the home owner, with that said we try to take care of every customer and do not in any way want to inconvenience anyone, it upsets me to hear that has happened, but we have to make hard decisions sometimes and as much as we do not want to reschedule it does happen when it is out of our control. We give each call our 100% and we want to ensure that when we walk out your door that your electrical is safe and poses no danger to the family. I have made changes to our communication system and want to ensure that all of our customers are 100% satisfied with the service provided. I would like to again offer our apologies and will investigate this situation personally.
