The price included parts and labor. They were very professional. They did a good job and they explained everything so it was very clear. This was my only experience with a heating company. Their price was good. I will use them again.

Their HVAC was good but the electrical was not. The people were good. I had another electrical guy a month or two later and he seemed much more knowledgeable about electrical. Their HVAC person was good. I think they are two companies that merged. My grades are on the HVAC work. He didn't do much, but he was very good. I don’t remember much about the details but he did fix the problem.
Description of Work: I used Brilliant Electric Heating & Cooling for HVAC and electrical because our furnace stopped working.

The process has been terrible. The work they were contracted to do was not preformed, there were 2 missed appointments, and the company and owner has been disrespectful and very difficult to work with in resolving this matter.
Description of Work: An initial service call was made, and an estimate given. One light fixture was replaced. The electrician told me new switches were needed so that the existing fixtures would work properly. He told me he would order hte fixture and return 2 days later to complete the job. A second service appointment was scheduled, but the electrician did not show. We made another attempt to schedule the service, but again the electrician did not show up. A different electrician from the same company showed up for the 3rd appointment, but electrical work they were hired to do was not completed; only one or the 2 fixtures is operational. The charged amount is still being disputed.

We are very sorry that Member is unhappy with the service provided. We made attempts to explain the situation to our valued customer as to the issues she was having, the work we provide was as proposed and completed, we warranty our work a 100% and have never failed to go back out when we have a customer that is not completely satisfied. Unfortunately in this instance there was no resolution with the home owner even after attempts via phone by the office manager and owner of the company, I wish we could have come to an agreement, Member is a valued customer and we would still love to be able to add her to our list of satisfied customers.

I used this group when they were Electrical Services Group. I thought enough of their service to call them again after we moved. I had written down Wednesday as the appointment date. After waiting for four hours, I called. The woman who answered the phone told me the appointment was for Thursday, not Wednesday. I was willing to concede that I might have made an error. But, after waiting for another four hours on Thursday, no one showed up. I never received a call from them and I will not be using them again.
Description of Work: I scheduled an appointment to have some outlets fixed and the electrical box remounted. I also wanted a quote on installing ceiling fans.

I had used the company several times when they were known as Electrical Services. On the day to meet for the estimate I waited a half hour and then called to confirm that I had not made a mistake in the time. I was informed that the estimator was behind schedule and someone else would be sent out. About an hour plus later a gentlemen arrived. We went through the list of the work I wanted done. As this was late Friday he said I would receive a proposal after the weekend. They had my cell number and email address. It's 4 weeks later and still no word. After waiting 2 weeks I took it as an omen and had work done by another contractor.

I have used this company before, and while they were expensive, I thought they did good work, so I called for this repair. They were able to send someone out to me the same day, which was great. The service tech called ahead and was prompt and generally friendly. However, the prices he quoted me for the job were very high: $350 just to diagnose the problem, plus the cost to fix it!. He said that he could do the job for less than the company wanted to charge by writing it up as something else, but that I couldn't use my Angie's List coupon in that case. It seemed a bit shady, but I wanted the job done ASAP, so I agreed. He was able cut the old wire to make the fixture work again, however, it stopped working again just 5 minutes after he left. I called him immediately on his mobile number and he returned to the house. He informed me the switch shorted during the repair he had just done. However, the warranty didn't apply because the wires were old, so he would have to charge me to fix it. He told me I could go with company pricing (over $100) to install a new switch, I could replace it myself, or he could do it without going through the company for $70. I asked about replacing the old cloth wire with new wire and he said that it would be $430 in addition to the $280 "repair" he just completed - which only worked for 5 minutes. After some discussion/arguing, he agreed to replace the switch he had broken for no additional cost, but again stated that there would be no warranty on the work and that the cloth wire posed a fire hazard. The experience was frustrating. I'm now out almost $300 and I still have the same unreliable "fire hazard" I had before. It appears that my options with Brilliant Electric are to 1) be grossly overcharged or 2) have to negotiate under the table because even the employees know the prices are too high. I will not be calling them again.

Very well. We had the same technician on two separate occasions. He was punctual, courteous, professional, and explained in simple language what was needed, why it was needed, what the job entailed, approximately how long it would take, and exactly what the cost would be. There were no hidden charges. We are very pleased with the service, and would certainly use it again, and recommend it highly to others.
Description of Work: Installing timer light switches, re-wiring part of fusebox, installing additional electrical outlets, installing new light fixtures and switching old ones, uninstalling "hot" (but unused) wiring, getting wiring into compliance with code regulations, replacing nonfunctional doorbell.

They warned me that there would be a small trip fee ($20 range) which I agreed to. A woman in the office scheduled the appointment with me but on the day of the appointment someone else called me and seemed to have a problem with the date/time as if it was an inconvenience. They had to reschedule for another day. On that day, the representative showed up on time. When we started to get specific about what type of lighting I would be purchasing for the project he said he was going beyond 'estimating' and instead was 'consulting' which would cost $186. His estimate was just under $4000 - three times more than the estimate I finally went with. Someone did call me after the visit to find out why I didn't agree to do the work right away and said they would call me back to discuss why the quote was so high. They did not call me back. This was a bad experience.
Description of Work: I contacted Brilliant for a quote to install two rail lights, one sconce, under cabinet lights, move two light switches and change two outlets.

For the Scheduling, sometimes in the service industry our technicians end up spending some more time that originally thought at a call and instead of being late to there next call we try to schedule a time that is better for the customer. They were very professional from start to finish. Showed up promptly for estimate, explained scope of work, and did not charge extra when we ran into a few problems. This job was going on during the removal of a deck and installation of a brick patio on an older home with several other contractors working in the same area at the same time. I am very pleased with the service this company provided and although they were not the cheapest quote for this job I am glad that I chose them and would use them again for future work.
Description of Work: We needed new electric run outside to a patio and some existing lines replaced from the house to our garage.

Horribly. The price they quoted me was far, far in excess of anything remotely reasonable (I found another quote for 1/10th the cost). A price quote that is 10 times the going rate is not even a remote possibility, and on top of it to charge me $29 for doing so only makes it worse. I was shocked that this firm acted in the manner that it did. I will definitely not hire than.
Description of Work: Initially, I was hoping they would come and install 2 track lights and one ceiling fan. They were punctual and came at the time they said they would. That was the only positive of the entire experience. As soon as the technician walked in, he said he would not be able to perform any installations on the specified day and that he could do an estimate only. This was not what I was told on the telephone. I was told that they would be able to do both the estimate and the actual install, if warranted, on the same visit. Nevertheless, I said okay and he proceeded to give me an estimate of $1230.00 to install 2 track lights and 1 ceiling fan. When he was writing down the prices, I honestly thought he was writing $48.00, but it was actually $480.00!!! All told, it seemed completely illegitimate and almost a scam. I was surprised that a firm that was graded this well would use their grades to gouge customers. I have just received another offer for $150.00 (1/10th the cost), and will go with that offer. To make matters worse, the technician ended up charging me $29 just for the estimate! Ridiculous!

We called because we had a problem with the electricity in parts of the house. The electrician who answered our call (Tom) was really helpful in diagnosing the problem over the phone and directed us to call ComEd instead. It was really nice that he didn't just try to do a service call to charge us. He was really helpful and we will definitely use this company again because Tom was so trustworthy and professional.

Electrician was sent to evaluate the job for $29 fee which would be put toward total if I chose to use Brilliant. I told him to do the job and he went to get the fan. The job was completed later that day. He spent about an hour and gave me a bill of $416, with 5 yr. warranty. My husband wanted the bill broken down into cost of fan and labor. The fan was $162.30; labor $282.40. I called to say I thought this was an excessive labor cost, the manager I spoke to said I was charged for the amount of time it took for the electrician to get the fan. In other words, "travel time." I told him that when I called, nothing was mentioned of this hidden cost, and I felt that this was fraud. First he offered me 10% back, but when I wasn't going to take it, he offered me $100 back. I told him he needed to be upfront with his costs to people who called. I finally got a letter of apology and a check for $145! In the letter, he blamed the electrician for the high cost he charged us. I wrote him back and said in NO WAY did I believe it was the electrician's fault. I was sure he was charging what was ordered by the front office. In fact, the man who actually did the work was professional and very good at what he did. What I learned is that I must ask ahead of time for all charges, per hour. Even my plumber does not charge "travel time" to get parts!

They were very good. They checked with me before they came. They came on time and took their shoes off at the door. They checked out the problem and repaired it on the spot. They followed up a few weeks later with a phone call to make sure everything was still okay. I would definitely call them in the future.

Worked was performed timely and well. I was not at the house when the work was done and received a call to pay the bill. When I asked for the charge they said it was $249 which seemed excessive for the work done. When I asked for an itemized listing of the costs the individual could not provide it. After some discussion He asked what I think I should pay and than we agreed on $149. I think Brilliant was somewhat unprofessional in this process.

I received a mailing from Brilliant offering Angie's List customers special pricing for a/c tune-up. I was promptly booked for next day service and the representative, Jerry, was delightful. I learned a couple helpful hints from Jerry regarding the filters on my furnice and he was cooperative and willing in helping to remove my window unit in order to climb out on the roof to look at the central a/c unit. Overall, a great experience and I will use this company again if all their representatives are as good as Jerry.

Everything did not go well. I called the company to see how much it would cost for them to come out, which they told me it was $29.00. As soon as the gentleman came to house, I was informed that the price would be $289.00. I was very shocked by this price and think this was very dishonest of the company. I asked why I was being charged $289.00 as opposed to $29.00 and I was informed this was the cost to diagnose the problem.
Description of Work: They came out to take a look at my circuit breaker, since one of the switches was sticking in the off position, and they also completed a repair to a switch in a bathroom.

We regret to hear you are not satisfied with your repairs. I understand we replaced a defective circuit breaker & fixed/replaced a defective switch in your bathroom. As we do with all our customers, we inform them we have a $29 dispatch fee. We inform them the dispatch fee covers the time for our technician to meet with you. We also inform our customers we will deduct the $29 from the cost of the actual work with a customer chooses to use our services. When our technician arrived at this customer's home, he was unaware of the extent of the problems. He quoted an upfront fee which was all inclusive. The quoted price of $289 covered the repairs of your problems including the material costs of a new circuit breaker & bathroom light switch. We do provide a full 5 year warranty on everything we install. We do apologize for any confusion surrounding our up front pricing. Thank you for considering Brilliant.

Response was prompt (within 2 days) and the electrician was terrific. Very professional and courteous. Completed 2 out of 3 tasks (repairing original doorbell too expensive to attempt now) the same day. Went out to find a part; had problems but didn't return without the part. Cleaned up after himself (a nice surprise with electrical work).

I called Brilliant Electric for an estimate on a lighting job. There initial response was excellent and were ther in no time. After a couple of days i received an estimate but it included more work then i had wanted. I called and asked them for a picture of the lights and also to drop the extra work that they thought needed to be done. I did not hear back from then.
Description of Work: No work was performed - just wanted them to bid on the job.

Brilliant Electric is super professional. - A week after they they installed a new electrical panel in our basement, we had problems with the electric. The problems had NOTHING to do with their work. The problem was outside the house. My wife, whom I love dearly, called them while she was super p*****, thinking it was their fault. Brilliant Electric could tell it was probably and external problem but they remained courteous and professional while my wife unloaded on them. They came out to our house, confirmed it was an outside electric problem and told us how to proceed. The electric company came and fixed the problem, no charge. - You get what you pay for so my advice is pay an extra 5% and get some real professionals to do the work, hassle free.
Description of Work: Replace / consolidate two electrical service panels in our basement.

There was someone in my area and they were able to come right out. They charged by the job and not by the hour. He did the diagnostics on the basement lights and the fan and gave me an estimate on the exhaust fans. The charge was just for diagnostics and the fixing of the basement lights. I ended up contacting another company to do the fan replacement as they were a bit high. They were very professional though.
Description of Work: I had them come out to look at a bathroom exhaust fan I thought needed replaced. I also had some lights in the basement that needed to be looked at.

They were reasonable and reliable. I thought that they were going to charge me more. The first day something had happened to their computer system and they did not come. I called them to check, and they rescheduled the appointment. They were very professional, and I would definitely hire them in the future.
Description of Work: We used Brilliant Electric Heating and Cooling Inc in February. The lights in the basement were giving me problems. They corrected that and also replaced few on the electric sockets which had burned out.
