Wonderful! He arrived as scheduled, put booties on his shoes to keep my home clean and put plastic around my rugs to keep them clean as well. He was knowledgeable and courteous. He explained everything to me, including pricing, what the problem was with the second fan and how to extend the life of my fans.

We left a message with ESG telling them the work we needed done. Someone from ESG left a message on our voice mail stating the person (George) and time they would come. George called later that day to confirm for 7 am the next morning. This was good that he confirmed, as we never checked our voicemail! He explained the cost and that it was 1.5 hours minimum for service, and when 'troubleshooting' a problem it is difficult to determine how long something will take. We said this was OK. He showed up promptly the next day, wore covers on his shoes when inside the house. He had no problem with our lazy dog that seemed to always be in the way. He fixed the original problem quickly and was able to do a couple more things in the 1.5 hours. He did a great job and we would definitely use him again!
Description of Work: Troubleshot a circuit for the bathroom. Additionally, he was able to: rehang a light fixture in the kitchen, troubleshoot the front porch light.

When they came the first time, they did recommend re-wiring my condo, but also said that the "fix" they had done was not a band-aid and would solve the problem. I had gotten the feeling they were trying to sell additional work because they suggested I have smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors installed, when those were already in my condo, in clear view. When I called them to come back b/c within 1 month the problem happened again, they said they might have to charge me for the time it took to re-repair, but that they'd give me a free estimate for re-wiring. When the guy came, he didn't even attempt to fix the problem. He said he'd have to re-wire. He wrote up an estimate and charged me $39 for it (so much for free estimates). Later that day, I had second company come to estimate the cost of re-wiring. That estimate was more than 50% ($1,500) less! I had a third company come later that day and within one hour they actually fixed the problem.
Description of Work: Initially, they came to troubleshoot and fix my electricity, which had gone out in 2 of the rooms of my condo. They were there for 3 hours, and seemingly had fixed the problem. One month later, the power went out in those same 2 rooms again, plus a third room. I called them to come back and fix what they had not fixed properly the first time. When they came back, they said there was nothing they could do to fix the problem, other than re-wire the condo. They gave me an estimate to do that work, and charged me $39 for the estimate.

I SPOKE TO THIS CUSTOMER WHEN SHE CALLED THE 2ND TIME. I INFORMED HER, THE FIELD REPORT TICKET SAID SHE HAD CLOTH WIRING THROUGHOUT HER UNIT. OUR TECHNICIAN TOLD HER THIS ON THE 1ST VISIT. I EXPLAINED DUE TO EXCESSIVE AGE OF WIRING, THIS WOULD BE A RECURRING PROBLEM. I SUGGESTED SHE HAVE THE 50+ YRS. WIRING REPLACED. I TOLD HER OUR TECH WOULD CHECK THE SPLICE HE ORIGINALLY MADE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS GOOD & IT WAS. THE CURRENT PROBLEM WAS DUE TO ANOTHER BREAK-DOWN OF THE CLOTH WIRING IN ANOTHER AREA. WE OFFERED TO REPAIR ON A T&M BASIS WHICH SHE DID NOT ACCEPT. SHE REQUESTED A QUOTE FOR A REWIRE WHICH WE PROVIDED. WE USUALLY CHARGE A $39.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE BUT WE ARE REFUNDING THIS BACK. We called ESG on a Sat am. Half our unit had no power and we knew it was an electrical short. We called them to get us temporary essential power. They spent about 3 hours and charged us $170 an hour for one guy (the younger one) to work hard and try to find the issue and the other guy to just stand around watching and talking. Then after they charged us almost $600 to tell us that we had an electrical short and need to replace all our wiring, they estimated it would take 2 men & 3 days to complete at $170/hr. Given that they had already spent some time in my house and I was not any closer to resolution, we asked them to wrap up and leave. It took another electrician (union certified too) less than 2 days to replace the wiring at half the price and half the time. Needless to say, we will not be using ESG for emergencies or regular service. The young guy doing the work seemed honest, but ESG requires a 2 man crew. Plus, one guy showed up 45 minutes late and they charged us a 2 man fee.

WE ARE SORRY THAT THIS CUSTOMER WAS NOT COMPLETELY SATISFIED WITH THE WORK ESG PERFORMED. WE WOULD LIKE TO RESPOND TO SOME OF HER COMMENTS. FIRST OF ALL, WE DO NOT REQUIRE A 2-MAN CREW, IN FACT THAT DAY WE ONLY HAD 1 ELECTRICIAN WORKING, BUT DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM, WE CALLED IN A 2ND ELECTRICIAN TO COME AND HELP. OUR ELECTRICIANS DID PROVIDE TEMPORARY POWER AS REQUESTED BUT THEY EXPLAINED TO THE CUSTOMER THAT THERE WAS SEVERAL UNINSULATED WIRES THAT SHOULD BE REPLACED BECAUSE THIS WAS HAZARDOUS. WE DID NOT PROVIDE A QUOTE FOR THE REWIRING BUT WE DID RECOMMEND THAT IT BE DONE ASAP. WE'RE GLAD THAT THIS WAS TAKEN CARE OF AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THAT WE DID NOT CHARGE SATURDAY RATES EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A SATURDAY JOB.

Really an excellent overall experience. The estimate was clear and reasonable, the work performed within two days of our approving the quote, workers arrived early, and managed to finish in less time than original estimate, so they came in under budget. We were especially pleased with Peter, he took the time to make certain that he understood what we needed and wanted, and he came up with several solutions to solve the problems we had and keep the project on track. We would happily recommend ECS to anyone looking for home or office electrical work.
Description of Work: A major upgrade to our previous electrical system, meant to accommodate a computer server and several power hungry components. The work involved a complicated running of new conduit from the basement outside and up to a third floor office space.

Having heard that electricians can be notorious for not returning calls etc. I was nervous to hire one for the first time. I was very pleasantly surprised by the level of professionalism at each stage in dealing with ESG. From the first call to the estimate to the work everything was smooth, easy, friendly and efficient. Their estimate was several hundred less than another company, and some people didn't return my calls. Tom the estimator made my options clear to me (I know zero about electrical work). The guys that did the work, Peter and Bill, were friendly and explained exactly what needed to be done where and why (they had to get into the attic and walls to determine the best approach for the new outlet). They did a great job cleaning up and getting everything back in order-taking special care and notice of the fact that I am 1 week away from having a baby. I have to say, I really appreciated that given how demanding cleaning is right now! They were great!!
Description of Work: ESG put a new outlet in a bedroom, moved a ceiling fan from one room to another (installing a backbox for the fan), moved an electrical box to accommodate the fan in the new room and put up a new switch for the fan. They were here for over 5 hours, the price seemed very fair given the level of work.

Company immediately sent out George to conduct estimate, which he tallied after examining job site and given a detailed list. We agreed to the contract after being told that the total cost would be $1080.00. George and an assistant arrived on time March 12, 8:00am, brought in their tools and supplies, covered their feet with booties, and began work. They worked until approximately 2:45PM (after lunch at 1:00PM), at which time they informed me their discovery that certain aspects of the job, i.e, finding the fan connection in another ''hidden'' box in the attic that would take three more hours at additional cost; that they had to install a separate single switch box instead of making it a two-gang box, also at additional cost. The three-way switch that we requested also would not be completed until the second day. When they returned, the remaining items were completed, but the three-way connection was not. George stated he could not anticipate all these problems during estimate. +$280.
Description of Work: George removed old/replaced ceiling light fixtures in four closets, via BX with switches; replaced fan/light control one bedroom; installed total of 10' track system with dimmer; installed two separate outlet/receptacles in hallway using BX, both of which required drilling and new placement, and one of which required three-way switching; replaced malfunctioning receptacle in kitchen; replace whole house fan in attic; replace dimmer for track system in master bedroom; Note that ALL switches, outlet/receptacles, switch covers/plates, fixtures, bulbs dimmers/controllers were supplied by the customer. The contractor charged for each ''back box'' and each item handled and each hour and fraction thereof. Cleaned up following job and removed all debris. Not sure as to how well the connections and other work was done. We will wait several months to see what happens.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO RATE US. WHEN WE QUOTE A PRICE, IT IS BASED ON A NORMAL INSTALLATION OR REMOVAL OF ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES. UNFORTUNATELY, SOME HOME'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MAY HAVE NOT BEEN INSTALLED PROPERLY OR TO CODE AND SOMETIMES COMPLICATIONS ARISE, WHICH THEN INCREASES LABOR TIME AND THEREFORE MUST BE CHARGED ACCORDINGLY. WE'RE GLAD THAT YOU WERE HAPPY WITH THE WORK.

George, my technician, was here on time. I showed him the dimmer switches I needed installed and talked to him about the switches I wanted moved. George was able to explain to me clearly about moving the switches and the pros and cons of the project. I decided not to move the switches. Meanwhile, George installed the dimmer switches. He left the house cleaner than when he came. I would use this company again and ask for George.

Both men were very polite, professional and conscientious. They were very neat; always conscientious of our newly painted walls and not tracking in on the floors. I would not hesitate to use them again and the price was the best of three quotes received.

The estimate was much higher than I anticipated. Unfortunately, due to the lack of space available in the wall where the old circuit board is located, rewiring is the only option to get my unit up to 21st century standards. I opted not to contract them for the work at this time due to the high cost. Diagnostic charge cost me $39, which would have been taken off the overall estimate if I opted to have them do the work. They were very professional and knowledgeable. I would have hired them except for the cost.
Description of Work: Asked for a estimate (diagnostic) of the electrical set-up in my condo-loft. George and his associate came out, although they were about 45 minutes late for the appointment. The estimated $3,450 for 2.5 days work to rewire the both the first and second floor to correct code violations.

He gave me quite an accurate and professional description of what was going on and why. They had to make two trips, which was not their fault. The second of the two trips the electrician was a bit late, but nothing monumental. The first time he arrived was within 20 minutes of my phone call. The price was competitive. They advised me about some serious code work that needed to be done that I had no idea about, and was very honest about that as well.

George and a colleague stopped by to give an estimate. They were quick and professional. After I received the estimate, the work was scheduled. The work was completed on schedule to my satisfaction. George's estimate (which was based on the work taking between 2-3 hours) was correct. I would use these guys again.
Description of Work: The work concerned relocating a switch. Specifically, we had a switch near the entrance to our garage that needed to be moved to a new location. This involved physically moving the switch, which was situated on a garage wall, and running new wire from a junction box to the new location, in a utility closet.

Everything went quite well. Anna was very courteous on the phone and quickly was able to make the arrangements. Jimmy was very friendly and informative, letting me know exactly what he was doing and why. He kindly informed me that my connections were correct, but the problem lay in the old connections. He quickly took care of the problem without wasting any time and reconnected the light fixture (no easy task due to the old wiring and box) better than I had done originally. I asked him a number of questions about the wiring of our house (built in the 1920's). He was very honest, not trying to talk me into anything, and giving me some things to consider before having any further work done.
Description of Work: In the process of installing a new light fixture in the downstairs hallway, I encountered very old and odd wiring (lots of apparently random wires taped together). The fixture worked for a few days, but suddenly the fixture stopped working and most of the second floor of the house was without power. The breaker did not shut off, and many of the outlets also on that breaker were still working. I called ESG at about 10:00 am Friday, within five minutes Anna had arranged for Jimmy to be at my house by noon. Jimmy arrived promptly and got right to work. He tested the various wires, located the problem connection, and cleaned up the wiring, and reinstalled the light fixture. While he was out I asked him to check the various ceiling fans that were in the house before we purchased it. I have noticed many have a slight wobble. He checked them and informed me they were fine but I could get balancers at any hardware store to fix the wobble.

This company was great! Everyone from phone handlers to electricians were charming and friendly. (My cat was crazy about the electrician). Both electricians made a thorough check which required quite a bit of stair climbing. The original diagnosis was correct but they backed up their work by sending the second electrician. The original price was fair (even cheap) considering all the work done and the second visit was FREE. GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM? CALL THIS COMPANY NOW!
Description of Work: An electrician was sent the day I called to fix (what I thought was)an electrical short. Various rooms on the first and second floor and most of the basement (including furnace) were shut down. After thoroughly checking switches, outlets, circuit breaker and meter, the electrician concluded that it was a Commonwealth Edison problem. He translated the problem into Electrics to the Com Ed phone rep. Com Ed came out that night but found nothing. So ESG sent a different electrician the next morning. His diagnosis agreed with the original. Good old Com Ed returned a second time and, what do you know, indeed, it was a Com Ed problem after all. DUH! (It took Com Ed two visits to repair the meter and wires but that's another story). So, ESG were the good guys. They got it right the first time but they backed up their work by sending the second electrician the next day at no charge.

When Eugen called to confirm the time of our appointment, he had the time wrong (ESG had called the day before to confirm the time of the appointment), and I told him I needed to get to work by the time he was planning to come. He immediately rearranged his schedule, and was only 15 minutes late. I was really glad for that. He looked at both fixtures carefully, and told me that one would be hard to fix, because he didn't have the parts he needed. He said he could go look for the parts, but that would really cause my bill to go up exponentially (due to the hourly charge, and how hard it might be to find the right part). He fixed the other fixture easily, and suggested the best course would be to get the company which had restored the antique fixture to repair it, because that would be much less expensive, and they would have the parts needed. He installed a bare bulb fixture instead, and said after we got the fixture repaired, he could come back and install it.
Description of Work: We had two antique ceiling fixtures that had problems and needed repair. One had a short in one of the lights, and we thought the problem was similar in the second fixture.

George about 10 minutes late because he could not locate my address. He said that he only had a work number for me, no home number to call. He was very professional and took care to protect my floors by covering his shoes with footies. He spent some time looking at the light kit and a replacement light kit that I had purchased from a Casablanca distributor, after being told that it would also fit the fan. However, George informed me that it was not the correct fixture. He said that it would not be safe to re-install the light since one of the sockets had already burned the fittings--the same thing might happen with the second one. He also said that he did not "fix" things. I would need to go back to Casablanca to order the correct light kit. If I wanted them to install after I received the new kit, I would not be charged the initial flat rate of $195.00 for the return visit, it would be $86 for about one hours work, if within 90 days.
Description of Work: Re-installation of a Casablanca ceiling fan with light kit. The light kit was not installed because one of the two 100 watt halogen light sockets had apparently burned through its fittings. The one remaining, that I had been using for several years with no problem, he was concerned about whether it would be safe to use. So the light kit was left off.

Response from Brilliant Electric, Heating & Cooling Inc
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO RATE US. I JUST WANTED TO EXPLAIN WHAT GEORGE MEANT WHEN HE SAID HE DOES NOT "FIX THINGS". HE MEANT HE REPAIRS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, BUT ACTUAL FIXTURES AND APPLIANCES WE DO NOT REPAIR. IF IT'S A CONNECTION TO A FIXTURE OR APPLIANCE, OF COURSE THAT WE WOULD TAKE CARE OF, BUT WHEN THE APPLIANCE OR FIXTURE ITSELF IS DEFECTIVE WE ADVISE OUR CUSTOMER'S TO REPLACE IT OR GET A MANUFACTURER-APPROVED REPAIRMAN. I HOPE THIS HELPS.
