Bill Carter came out and discussed the options and gave me an estimate promptly via email. Bill was sensitive to my time and financial constraints. Compared to the other bids I received, I felt that Bill was very knowledgeable about the electrical code and what ComEd would accept. He suggested what he felt was correct, rather than what was easiest. Bill estimated that the job would take 1.5 days with two guys. The guys were on time both days and worked diligently, only taking a short lunch break. They let me know exactly when the power would be off and for how long. They ran into some difficulty on the second day and instead of half a day they stayed until almost 7PM. Again, they worked very hard and kept me well informed. I have an old house so I'm not surprised the job took a little longer. They explained what they had done and cleaned up after themselves. They did a very professional job.
Description of Work: ESG installed 200 Amp service to the house and moved the electric meter. They also installed a motion light on the garage. Because of the new location for the electric service, they installed the new breaker box in a new location and rerouted the wires from the old box to the new box on the opposite wall. The also fixed a broken piece of conduit on the exterior.

They came at a little after 7 in the morning and it took the two workers a little more than half the day to do the work. They were polite and wore covers over their shoes inside to keep from tracking dirt in the house.
Description of Work: Added light in a closet with switch for it just outside the closet. Added a switch at the bottom of a stairwell so we can turn the light on/off from either the top or the bottom of the stairs. Replaced 5 exiting light switches with switches that were lit up when turned off. The two new switches mentioned above were lit switches as well. I had two new bathroom exhaust fans installed (the fans I had purchased before calling).

Very pleased overall. Tom gave us a quick estimate, did the job on time; very courteous, careful, and thorough electrician; well worth the money. Even though we live in Chicago, the service was excellent. We have other electrical jobs ahead and will certainly call them.
Description of Work: Installed a complicated ceiling fan in a bedroom, with a remote. Had to work with an old ceiling to secure the fan properly. Cleaned up thoroughly afterward; came back to check to see if fan was "ticking." (The problem was solved to our satisfaction.) Tom gave good advice beforehand about the size of the fan needed and the brands he thought were best. It was worth spending a little more money on a quality fan. Also, installed a light and light-switch in the basement, and a chandelier. Both jobs were done to our satisfaction. When the safety kept shutting down the new light, they came back and made the necessary adjustment.

I had an emergency in my coach house. I tried the Electrical Service Group but it was a Friday evening and they were not available. I used an electrician from the yellow pages who came, didn't do anything much and overcharged me. Next day I called the Electrical Service Group people, and their electrician showed up promptly. He couldn't locate the problem but assured me about the safety etc. and returned on Tuesday with another electrician to troubleshoot and fix the problem. It took them about an hour and half; they found a short in one of the lines and repaired it. The charges were very reasonable particularly compared with the charges of the other electrician.
Description of Work: I had an electrical emergency in my coach house. The electrician had to come twice. The first time he couldn't locate the problem, it required a crew of two. As it was Saturday, they came back the next Tuesday located the problem and fixed it. There was a short in one of the lines. They were very professional, told me exactly what was going on and charged me a reasonable amount. I would strongly recommend their services.

We used personal recommendations and Angie's List to get contractor leads. As with most condo building repairs, this process takes time. The ESG estimator Bill was one of the most professional and honest we had examine the damage. He didn't flinch at the scope of the work. We were about to go with ESG for the repairs anyway, when ComEd put us in a time bind to get repairs done (long story). Bill went out of his way to get us a revised estimate with overtime and ensured he could get a crew out that night we needed the work done. The ESG guys were working at dusk and got our main riser fixed. Not an easy task considering the weight and length of the pipe. The entire crew was very pleasant and professional. ESG came out a week or two later to finish the other conduit repairs. Overall, we are very happy we went with ESG. The service was fantastic and the price was very reasonable for the work we had done. Prices weren't that much different than other contractors we looked at, and the quality of work and the exceptional service provided the ultimate value. This project was one where Angie's List really paid off. Much better than just picking a contractor out of the phone book. The awards that ESG has received from Angie's List are deserved and they acknowledge these honors and live up to them. Big or small, definitely look at ESG for your electrical projects!

I called ESG when I couldn't get my regular electrician to do the work promptly. ESG responded quickly and made arrangements with my tenant to get into the unit. We had a little miscommunication about whether to fix the fixture or replace it, in that I wanted a recommendation for replacement before the replacement happened. When I was surprised that the fixture had been replaced without consulting me, I called ESG. They looked into the matter, assured me that replacement was the best solution, and apologized for the mess-up regarding my instructions. I appreciate their getting back to me so quickly and for apologizing. I am trusting that their electrician did the right thing based upon ESG's reputation and their honest dealings with me.

Quality of work was good. The door is working fine. My issues are with the pricing of the work. 1. Before the 1st visit, I explained to the office staff that the door was not aligned properly and that the entire security gate was not working properly. They assured me that this would not be a problem and that the technician could do it all. They sent the technician out, and he said he recommended that we not work on the door until the alignment issue was fixed. He said that he did not repair the door alignment. Then they charged me for the visit which I did not think was fair. After complaining, I had this service charge waived, only after agreeing to use them for the upcoming service. 2. When the gate was repaired, the technician came out and determined what was needed for the job. This took about 30 minutes. He then left and did not return for over 2.5 hours. Eventually I called the office and told them that I had to leave the house to get back to work. Upon returning the technician completed the work. Unfortunately I was charged for 3.25 hours of service. I could be wrong here, but it does not seem right to bill the customer for the excessive amount of time that it required to find the replacement part. I complained about this over charge, but to no avail. I was told that this was normal practice for electrician service billing.
Description of Work: Our condo building had a security gate that the electronic door strike was not functioning properly. The buzzer was not opening the security gate due to the faulty part. ESG had a technician replace the door strike and the door is now functioning well.

ON OUR FIRST VISIT OUT TO TROUBLESHOOT AND REPAIR THE INTERCOM SYSTEM AT THE GATE WE WERE NOT MADE AWARE THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF BEFORE GETTING THERE. OUR TECHNICIAN WHO SPECIALIZES IN INTERCOMS WAS ON SITE FOR AN HOUR AND THE CUSTOMER REFUSED TO PAY DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO CORRECT PROBLEM UNTIL GATE ALIGNMENT WAS REPAIRED. WE UNDERSTOOD THEIR FRUSTRATION AND ISSUED AN IMMEDIATE $93 CREDIT. THE CUSTOMER WAS STILL NOT SATISFIED WITH THE DISCOUNT AND WE ISSUED AN ADDITIONAL CREDIT OF $52 MAKING THIS SERVICE CALL FREE OF CHARGE. WE LEFT WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT A CARPENTER WOULD BE BROUGHT OUT BY THE OWNER TO REPAIR THE GATE AND THEY WOULD THEN REQUEST OUR SERVICE AGAIN. OUR SERVICE WAS REQUESTED AND ALL FEES WERE EXPLAINED TO THE OWNER. ON OUR RETURN VISIT IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE PART NEEDED IS NOT AN ITEM IN STOCK. UNFORTUNATELY IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO STOCK EVERY DOOR STRIKE MANUFACTURED. THESE PARTS ARE TYPE SPECIFIC TO EACH INDIVIDUAL SYSTEM, MAKE AND MODEL AND YES, IT TOOK OUR TECHNICIAN SOME TIME TO GET FROM THE DOWNTOWN AREA TO THE NORTH SIDE WHERE THIS PART WAS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THIS CUSTOMER NOT BEING SATISFIED AND WISH TO OFFER AN ADDITIONAL $50 CREDIT AND SINCERELY HOPE THAT WE MAY BE OF SERVICE AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.

They had to find and replace the original wiring which was underground and not in a pipe and not grounded. It required a lot of trenching around tree roots and along the fence line. They did it so that they did not kill any grass. To protect the bushes along the fence, they tied up each bush so that they were away from the work zone. When George and Eugene were finished, it looked like no one had been here. They worked for 8 hours straight - no goofing off, just work. It was a pleasure having them here.

Was somewhat late in arriving but called immediately to report delay of about 30 minutes. Person who performed services was professional and immediately checked the circuit breaker panel where he tightened all connections and replaced a defective breaker. He also noted a problem with the connection from the outside meter to the panel. Also checked a ceiling light and fan which is now working, but he indicated that a socket was bad and probably would necessitate replacing the fixture in the future. Other electrical outlets were checked and repairs made as necessary.
Description of Work: Lights were flickering and clocks occasionally would stop briefly. Checked circuit breaker panel and tightened all connections. Also checked ceiling light and fan fixture, as well as other electrical outlets and made the necessary adjustments.

George the technician trouble-shot the electric-eye problem and discussed some alternative approaches for fixing it. I decided to do the rewiring, a more expensive approach but one which should lead to trouble free operation for many years. Because of the wiring, a second technician (Eugene) joined the job. The two of them worked efficiently to accomplish the move, calling me out to discuss the situation once or twice. Now the electric-eye works as it should and our back step lights go on and off with the change of daylight as desired.
Description of Work: It was necessary to relocate an electrical-eye mechanism that was not functioning properly due to its location and the growth of shade trees over the years. The job was complicated because new wiring needed to be threaded through existing conduit to reach an exposed area on our back steps. Also, and much simpler, we needed to replace a motion sensor.
