Description of Work: Inspector very personable and professional. Did not go onto roof as "did not have tall enough ladder" Went over inspection very presicley and provided a booklet containing how too's and whatif's of homeowners. Somewhat useful but not really needed. Cost cleary out of control in this market for services provided, not this companys fault but probably an opportunity for an app developer to lower costs for all.

Description of Work: Will A. came out to do an inspection on a house we're in the process of purchasing. He arrived early, and had already done the roof inspection, chimney, and gutter inspection before we even got there which was great - the entire process was really informative and thorough. He was good about telling us what things really mattered, what things we should eventually fix, and what time frames we could roughly expect for remaining useful life of appliances/roof, etc. The Radon test was a different employee, but she was friendly, and arrived during our regular inspection with Will. | |Brickkicker's customer service is great too - I needed the radon results before the report was ready, so their customer service called the field technician to get the results while I was on the phone. Great customer service all around.

Description of Work: Brickkicker completed a home inspection for me on a property I am hoping to purchase. |I had Kurt as my inspector. The service and attention to detail was amazing. I am a first-time home buyer and Kurt took the time to explain everything that he was doing and why the items he pointed out were important. I gave a B for punctuality because I was told when we started that the inspection would approximately 2 - 2 1/2 hours, but it ended up taking 4 hours. I would definitely recommend Brickkickers and I believe that the long inspection is because Kurt wanted to take the extra time to explain as I was a first-time home buyer.

 + -1 moreThis was my third time using Brickkicker and it will be the last. The first time, they did an excellent inspection of my first home before purchase. When it came time to move again, I contacted Brickkicker to inspect my intended purchase. Jim Ratzloff did a very thorough job and found many large problems with the house. I ended up not purchasing the home due to his inspection. I found another home and again asked Jim to inspect it. This time, he seemed rushed, and did not inspect key areas properly. We purchased the home based on his glowing review of the house. As it turned out, extensive electrical and plumbing problems cost us tens of thousands to fix. They were transparent problems he should have noticed. Why would the same inspector do such a thorough job on one house, then miss so much on another? The real estate agent selling the house was also the selling agent on the house that we had backed out of, which leads me to be very suspicious of the inspector's motives.

 + -1 moreAfter discovering our bad roof, we got quotes from 5 roofing companies; all were DISMAYED that the inspector missed such an obvious problem. We contacted the BrickKicker in writing and they sent the inspector out to see the problem. In a letter, Mr. Ratzloff confirmed that to the naked eye the roof appeared deteriorated, but then presented a theory about how it must have gotten that way AFTER the inspection (he speculated that the Disk Network crew that installed our satellite must have done the damage sorry, we noticed the problem before the lone DN guy came). He also said that WE should have noticed the deterioration of the roof during the final walk-through. Today, our air conditioner compressor just died. Turns out the unit is 16 years old and apparently 15 years is the average life span of A/C equipment. It would have been so nice for the inspector to point this out to us. The date is right on the back of the unit! Thanks Brick Kicker for doing such a lousy job.
Description of Work: We used the BrickKicker in May 2005 for a home inspection. Jim Ratzloff was our inspector. He found a number of small issues with the home, but missed 2 of the most expensive problems the roof and the air conditioning system. As first time homeowners, we were very worried we about incurring major expenses. One year later, we are out around $9,000. The inspector provided a report which said simply that our roof was older. Verbally, he said that the roof was fine for several more years. He never actually went up onto the roof during the inspection. Turns out the roof was TOTALLY shot. We found this out 2 days after moving in when we happened to be walking a few yards down the sidewalk. You could only see this part of the roof when you walked a few yards away due to the pitch of the roof and location of the neighbor's house, but it was CLEARLY visible to the naked eye at street level.

HE TOLD US HE LIKED TO MAKE THE INSPECTION ''FUN'', WHAT HE MEANT WAS HE WANTED TO PRACTICE HIS STAND-UP COMIC ROUTINE DURING OUR INSPECTION - WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED A PROFESSIONAL INSTEAD OF A COMEDIAN. HE WOULDN'T GO ON THE ROOF TO INSPECT B/C HIS ''LADDER WAS TOO SHORT'' AND WOULDN'T ESTIMATE USEFUL LIFE OF ROOF, BUT IT LOOKED GOOD TO HIM. TURNS OUT ROOF HAD LESS THAN 2 YEARS LEFT. WOULDN'T REMOVE COVER FROM FURNACE TO INSPECT HEAT MANIFOLD. TURNS OUT IT WAS BROKEN AND LEAKING CARBON MONOXIDE. FAILED TO FIND EXTENSIVE MOLD PROBLEM UNDER KITCHEN SINK AND IN BATHROOMS. WHEN I CALLED TO QUESTION/COMPLAIN, INSPECTOR WASN'T AVAILABLE, BUT HE LATER LEFT A VOICEMAIL INDICATING THEY CAN'T BE EXPECTED TO FIND EVERYTHING AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT REFUND MY INSPECTION FEE.
