They seemed nice enough. We never went as far as getting the bid. I wanted to look at some of the work that they had done. They gave us some houses but our house is bigger and it was hard to see and this was going to be at the end of the fall. He was out once and I was with him for half hour or forty minutes and I did a lot of contact on the phone. They were very professional and seemed knowledgeable about everything. I did see a couple of their smaller houses and it looked fine. The fellow that they sent out was nice to work with. I think his name was Ryan, he was very nice. We are going to make the executive decision and if nobody wants to stain our house and if something were to fall through with that, I would definitely call them to get a final bid on that.
Description of Work: I contacted Opal Enterprises about replacing siding, soffit, fascia and gutters on my house.

Eli was our salesperson and he was delightful. He took time to answer our questions and discussed many options with us. I had thought I would choose Alside windows prior to meeting with him but after speaking with him we chose Andersen single-hung. Due to a size issue we ended up with both types of windows in the house and I do think the Alside looks nicer and seems more sturdy. I would have probably chosen Alside for all inserts if I had seen them side by side prior to install. That being said I am not unhappy with the Andersen window. I just like the Alside better. Our Alside model is Sheffield, I believe. Scheduling the project with Tara was seamless and they the crew was prompt and arrived as promised. Tara was always responsive when I called the office. Things began to go a bit downhill at this point. The first day of the job when they were doing the tear-off and beginning of roof installation, there was no one on site with whom I could communicate. Steve, the project manager, was there for a few mintues first thing in the morning but then left. Unbeknownest to me, my crew chief, Pieter, was not going to be there at all that day and he was the only one who spoke both Polish and English. He was on vacation. When I had issue with them throwing shingles on my new shrubs and my vegetable garden, I was unable to adequately express my concern. On one side of the house they were quite careful. On the other side they were not and gave some excuse of not being able to cover the shrubs the same way. This was not the case at all. They could have attached the tarps the same way. Tara explained their reasoning to me after I called the office but she was not there to see it was not an adequate reason. I also had to point out some wood on the roof deck I was concerned about. I am not sure they were going to replace it and there was no one there I could discuss it with. The time it took to call the office, have someone call the job site and then talk with Tara or Steve again was frustrating. I expected them to take better care of the landscaping and think they would have if Pieter had been there. My house was built in 1890. I did not understand prior to the install that this might make the inserts seem crooked. They say they told me that. I do not remember such a conversation. I also think one of the windows could have been ordered a bit larger. When I called Steve to talk about this and the fact that I did not want to look at a crooked window he became hostile on the phone and raised his voice at me. It was not a pleasant exchange. I do not want to believe he was less than respectful because I am a woman questioning their work but I will not totally dismiss that possibility. Pieter and his window installer worked very carefully in the end to use moulding that would make the window appear square and plumb. They painted the moulding and the windows are air and water tight. Steve also called later to apologize for our disagreement. The gutters are beautiful and they cut one gutter short and gave me an extension so I could have a rain barrel in the warmer months as I requested. They had to carry material from my house to the dumpster in the driveway. Each day the job site was clean and someone came after the job was completed to do a final sweep for nails. I found only one nail in the bushes and, unfortunately, another one in my new tire. I am not calling about the nail in my new tire because I know I and quot;cannot proveand quot; it was them that left the nail. I'm just p***** about having a plugged tire when they were just new in March. Reimbursement of the $24.95 to plug the tire won't make that go away. It is difficult to answer the question of whether or not I would use them again. The experience was one of highs and lows. That being said, I am happy with the final product thus far. I would say read my review along with all of the others and make your own decision.
Description of Work: I had 2 layers of shingles removed and a new roof installed. Some wood was replaced. I also had new gutters. Finally, I had 6 window inserts installed, one Alside window and 5 single-hung Andersen.

Response from Opal Enterprises Inc
Remodeling projects seem to have some common high and low points for homeowners. If you are a seasoned remodeling homeowner, you may already know what to expect when a contractor is at your home working with your home's unique features. If a homeowner has not lived through a remodeling project before, they seem to experience higher degrees of anxiety and excitement. We are so very proud of our Polish crews and their dedication to craftsmanship; however we do understand that whether crew men be Spanish or Polish or any wonderful decent; a language barrier does exist. We also pride ourselves on a being a rare remodeling company that is fully staffed with 4 admin ladies, and 2 production managers that visit sites and make sure our crews are working well for our valued customers! I am very sorry that Member experienced frustrations with the language barriers and we were aware of this from the start of her project and tried to address that concern. When exterior remodeling occurs on a home, we wish valuable homeowners would be understanding that landscaping does suffer as crew members simply must get up close to the house to perform our remodeling tasks. We do disclaim to our homeowners over and over in the contracts and in our "Preparing for your project" and "Homeowner Expectations" documents that are handed out at our "Pre-construction" meeting that happens within 1 week of the remodeling contract being agreed upon. I do feel heartbroken, as a woman business owner in the remodeling industry, that a fellow woman would feel slighted when going through a remodeling process with Opal Enterprises. We try so hard to make sure our customers are appreciated..and as everyone has human tendencies to to react to an upset customer in a quick and upset way...Steve, our production manager, has been asked to next time take better care in listening to our customers and then ask if a call back can be made so everyone has time to breathe before reacting. Member, I am so sorry you felt Steve was disrespectful. He normally receives raving reviews for his care and attention. I am very saddened to learn via an Angie's list report that there was a nail in your tire. I can only fix what I know about. I do know Opal Enterprises is extremely rare in having a clean-up crew that visits every home after a project is completed. This homeowner is very important to Opal Enterprises. Our 5-year labor warranty is in full force! Opal Enterprises prides ourselves on caring for our customer's experiences. Thank you for your feed back. Sincerely-Tara Opalski Owner

The job was originated as a response to an insurance claim. I contacted Opal Enterprises because of their excellent reviews from Angies List. I was promptly contacted by oneof their sales representatives. Dan met with me on three occasions to evaluate the job, review the quote and discuss a contract. On each occasion, I was called in advance to confirm appointments. I felt that he gave more than sufficient time to understand all my concerns and review expectations. After signinfg the contract I had two more meetings with Opal, this time with their production manager, Steve. Again reviewing the contract and scope of the job, they were extremely thorough in expressing all aspects of the job so that I had a very clear understanding of what, and how they were going to work. It took a couple weeks to order materials, and I was notified no less than 4 times before the work began to confirm the convenience to me of the schedule. The day that the workers arrived, I stayed home to watch their approach to the project (I've had experience in the trades and wanted to see how they tackled the project). From beginning to end I was extremely pleased with their dilligence, work ethic, and quality, as well as the care they took to my property. There were several delays due to rain during the project, but in each case I was promptly notified when the crew would be there and what they expected to accomplish on each day. Additionally, the production manager, Steve, called me each evening to get a progress report from me as to my satisfaction of the day's progress and to answer any questions. My house is a 95 year old farmhouse that has had at least 3 additions added to it, so there are quite a number of intricate transitions in the siding that I was concerned about. I am extremely pleased with the professional quality that the workers displayed in and quot;solvingand quot; some of these difficulties. They took the extra time and effort to complete the job in very reasonable time and the project far exceeded my expectations. I was asked to put together a punch list of issues so that Opal could promptly resolve the project, but I couldn't find a single problem! I give Opal Enterprises my highest recommendation, and would be pleased to verify this. Thank you for a job done very well! Mark Lucas847-915-9212

Opal did a first class job replacing my roof. I met with three different contractors for my roof replacement. Opal wasn't the cheapest, but their presentation was the most professional and made me feel most confident that they would do a great job. They came through as promised. The working crew was very polite and courteous. Cleanup was good. They would be my first choice for other projects, I highly recommend Opal Enterprises.

Opal came back out for a problem with the gutters they installed. While I did have some problem with my initial phone call they did come out and confirm that the installation caused the problem and they fixed it without any additional cost. My ratings were only dampened by the irritating stance of the initial phone call where she just looked at the old paperwork and said I had signed off on the work so it was my problem.
Description of Work: Fix gutter problem. Downspout location was causing water to splash over the gutter and also back-up behind siding. I did not discover the problem until I was outside while it was raining.

This is a reputable company and good workmanship. The sales process was pleasant. The only negative I would say is that the crew could have been a little neater about their daily trash - however they did do a great job on the roof, flashing, and gutters.

They weren't a bargain, but they knew what they were doing. The work was excellent and I am satisfied with the work they did for me. I feel that the work that they did was well worth the price. They were constantly cleaning the work area so that it didn't look like a construction area. I was amazed at the effort that they put into this job.

Additionally, because of all the issues with Opal’s as noted above, I had to come home from work several hours early on at least three separate occasions to meet with you or Jake to actually review all the work which had to be corrected or completely redone. This was a significant inconvenience since I take the train to/from work and I have a job which demands long hours that I needed to make up. In addition to the above items, there are several issues that I believe relate to Opal and feel they should also be taken into consideration with respect to providing a discount: The day before you showed up to complete repairs on our soffits and fascia our outside water spigot was used and in working order. The evening after you completed the work in that area the handle to the spigot was broken and I had to pay a plumber $150 to replace the spigot. I had previously mentioned this and you asked if I can “prove” Opal broke the spigot. Since I don’t have cameras recording the outside of my house, the answer is no, but we are unaware of anyone other than Opal employees being in our yard during the time the spigot was broken (perhaps a ladder hit the handle, unbeknownst to the crew). I purchased over $500 of evergreens in anticipation of having them put in the ground but because of all the lengthy Opal delays (again, due to poor workmanship/need to re-do work), our landscapers were delayed over a month and the shrubs died and needed to be replaced. Opal was using our driveway for cutting materials. Our car tire was sliced (in our driveway) by a piece of metal that looked like the flashing Opal installed around our garage door. Again, can I prove Opal left the metal there? No, but one of the times you were at my house to discuss all the issues (prior to the tire being cut but at the end of the day when clean up was “complete” and everything packed up), my son picked up a piece of sharp construction materials off the ground to show it to me (I was talking with Alan at the time so he may recall this as I told my son I didn’t want him playing with it). I would say this is indicative of how thorough the crews did (or did not) clean up each day. So, at a minimum, the flat tire is a coincidence that cost over $400; I would say it is very unlikely that it is just a coincidence. As mentioned above (#6), a bush was damaged because a temporary gutter was dumping water right into the bush. My landscaper said the plant may survive, but will cost several hundred dollars ($300+) to replace if it does not. I know from prior experiences with construction projects that issues pop up and that is to be expected, and for circumstances beyond Opal’s control that would be one thing; however, for issues such as most of those noted above, which were completely in Opal’s control and simply the result of poor or careless workmanship, I believe that it is unreasonable to expect to be compensated at prices which were agreed to with the reasonable expectation that the work would be performed in a timely manner (i.e., the stated 10 days v. 5 months) and completed correctly the first time (v. the sixth). It would be appreciated if you could please confirm your receipt of this e-mail; I look forward to hearing from you so we resolve this as quickly as possible. Regards, And here is Opal's response in its entirety: and quot;Mark, I received your email. I am very much aware of everything that took place on your job. I would like to remind you that all of the issues that you have experienced were addressed. I feel like your communication with us and with our installers was always very unpleasant and angry. At this point I am not going to offer you any type of discount and requaire full payment on your balance. Your job was completed last Monday Jan 30th 2012 and final payment is due since that day. Thank You. Sincerely, Voytekand quot; Lessons learned about Opal (the worst contractor we've ever used): Obviously from the Voytek's response, they believe that regardless of how much they screw up and inconvenience their customers, there should be no consequence to them and no restitution for the customer. I prepaid almost all of the contract price to receive a $1000 discount from Opal...a very bad decision and not worth the savings, especially since my experience with them leads me to believe that once they have the money they could care less about getting your job completed in a timely manner. I would expect that they would have been more responsive if they were due a lot more money. While Opal's sales rep was readily available in evenings and weekends before the sale, once the job was sold and they begin work you are tied to their office hours. As previously mentioned, I had to leave work early three times because, in general, they would not accomodate evening/weekend meetings. They were doing a horrible job and expected me to leave work to review all the issues that were a result of their poor quality workmanship. When I told the owner that having to leave work early cost me money, his response was and quot;well having to meet with you costs me moneyand quot; Really? Yep... that's what he said and I can't count the number of times I was told that they didn't meet in the evenings or on weekends (due to the huge number of issues they did agree to meet in the evening but it wasn't until I told them it would potentially be weeks before I could meet with them during their normal business hours.) You need to watch them like hawks or they will not do things properly and you may not know about some of those things until it is too late (soffit vents, siding over open holes). the only reason we discovered the sided-over open hole was that my wife saw it from inside the basement when the dryer vent was pushed in. I just hope there aren't other similar issues that we haven't discovered yet. When discussing the under vented soffits with the owner of Opal (and listening to him complain because we actually expected him to make sure the vents weren't blocked by insulation), we stated that we thought James Hardie (the siding provider) would expect the install to be done correctly and he stated that and quot;As long as it looks good, they don't careand quot;. Given some of the issues noted above (e.g., blocked vents, open holes simply sided over, vent covers over small vent holes), one may be led to believe that it is actually Opal that is only concerned with the siding looking good and not whether it was actually installed correctly. Unfortunately, given some of the other issues (e.g., leaving old rusty flashing exposed under new flashing (v. removing it), bowed framing, and wavy fascia) it would seem that Opal isn't concerned with it looking good either...they say they fixed the issues...and, ultimately, they pretty much did but complained about it a lot. For example, when my wife called to tell them the dryer tube was pushed in and venting into our basement, one of the owners told her they didn't want to keep sending people out to take care of little things (we would call when we found things...unfortunately there were many things to find) as it wasn't convenient for them in scheduling their crews. Not mentioned in the above, the crews were incredibly SLOW and unreliable (wouldn't show up when they said they would). We were promised that a supervisor would be on sight at all time and he often disappeared for extended stretches during the day. Even if everything went perfectly , I don't know how they would have completed the project in 10 days. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU AVOID OPAL AT ALL COST. WE PAID TO JOIN ANGIE'S LIST JUST SO WE COULD WARN OTHERS ABOUT OPAL. BY FAR, OPAL PROVIDED THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE WEI'VE EVER HAD WITH A CONTRACTOR. THEY ARE CARELESS AND SLOPPY AND HAD TO COMPLETELY REDO MUCH OF THE WORK BECAUSE THE INITIAL INSTALL WAS SO POOR. UNFORTUNATELY, IN ORDER TO AVOID OPAL TRYING TO PUT A LIEN ON MY HOUSE (AGAIN) NOW THAT THE WORK IS COMPLETE, I PAID THE FINAL INVOICE IN FULL BUT AM HOPEFUL THAT HAVING A LAWYER IN THE FAMILY WILL ALLOW US TO ACHIEVE AN ULTIMATELY ACCEPTABLE OUTCOME.
Description of Work: Replaced aluminum siding, soffits and fascia with Hardie Board: Removed and replaced gutters: Removed sliding door and replaced with picture window, Painted garage and service door If you read no further, please read this If you (or anyone else you know) has used Opal Enterprises to replace your soffits please make sure to have the soffits checked to make sure you have adequate ventilation. You may think Opal did a great job for you (I did not), but unless you actually saw them cut the correctly sized holes for the soffit vents please check and make sure to protect your home. In performing the work on my house, rather than cutting an appropriately sized hole for each of the 4x8 vents (32 square inches), Opal cut three 2" holes (less that 10 square inches) that were then covered with a 4x8 vent so you would not know just by looking at it (much easier for Opal to drill three holes behind the vents...not so good for your house). Had I not caught this, it would have resulted in my attic being undervented by more than 50%, which results in higher electric bills and shortens the life of your roof (potentially costing thousands of dollars over time). Thanks to "my attic guy" I had discovered this when Opal had only installed half of the soffit vents and I insisted that they correct the issue. However, the job supervisor told me they "always" cut three small holes and he had no idea why I was concerned. I believe there are many Opal customers that may be be at risk based upon this. So now that I've gotten the above warning out of the way, the below explains why OPAL IS THE WORST CONTRACTOR WE'VE EVER USE...PERIOD! Rather than go through the whole disastrous tale, below is my letter (pasted word for word) requesting that Opal offer a discount to make restitution for the significant inconveniences and additional costs we experienced as a result of Opal's poor quality and careless workmanship. I have also pasted (word for word) the response received from from Voytek Opalinski, the owner of Opal Enterprises. I do want to note that In Opal's response, the owner mentions that I was "angry" - what is not mentioned (in my letter or Voytek's response) is that prior to Opal completing the work, I received a letter stating that they would put a lien on my house because I hadn't paid the invoice they sent prior to acceptably completing work. After receiving the letter, I called and told our sales rep (the co-owner's brother) that there were open items. In a very heated phone call Opal repeatedly insisted the work was complete but ultimately (likely after I stated that I would sue them if they put a lien on my house when they hadn't complete the work), they returned to my house to discoverer that the $4000 window they installed for us was, in fact, not operating properly and that they had several other punch list items which needed to be complete - items which they then took two months to complete. So here is my letter: Voytek, As you may recall, back in October/November, prior to Opal completing the work on our house, I had indicated that I believed it was appropriate for Opal to provide a discount to the contract pricing (see referenced invoice) given our experience with your company. We incurred significant inconveniences and additional costs that were not related to "normal" construction issues but, rather, poor quality and careless workmanship on the part of Opal. In our last conversation you stated that you didn’t want to discuss the issue of discounts at the time and wanted to resolve the matter after the work was complete. As such, review my comments below and let me know what you propose as a reasonable and fair solution. Some of the reasons why I believe a discount from your full price would be appropriate: We were told that the entire project would take approximately 10 days to complete. Opal began work in early September and just completed the work. After numerous visits to correct many issues (some described below), we accommodated Opal's request to wait until all remaining work could be completed at one time rather than asking Opal to do the work piece meal - however, even after this and waiting over a month and a half for you to return finish the job, you needed to return three more times over the course of several weeks (v. the 10 days the entire job was supposed to take) in order to finish the work. Opal installed the wrong window in my house and then when you replaced it, the window did not operate properly. Jake, the Opal supervisor, indicated that he believed it would be appropriate for us to receive a discount on the window because of the issues and with you installing the incorrect window. He also stated that Opal would likely be able to recover some, if not all, of a discount from the window manufacture (Andersen) since you claim Andersen was in error and was responsible for shipping the incorrect window which you installed. It is worth noting that just with respect to the window, you came out at on at least six separate occasions over several months, all requiring us to be inconvenienced as you needed access to the home. The visits would include (1) initial install, 2) switch windows to correct initial install, 3) attempt to fix window since it was not operating properly, 4) actually fix window but failed to bring necessary materials to fix damage Opal did to the wall during install or install final trim, 5) come out to replace trim/damage Opal did to wall around window during initial install - but still didn't have the correct materials (again), and 6) final visit to fix damage to wall and replace initial trim with proper trim. Also worth noting, regardless of the fact that the vendor may have shipped the incorrect window, Opal did not verify or inspect the window was correct prior to installing it; something that could have eliminated the inconveniences needing 6+ visits to complete the work. Below is a list of the issues related to Opal's poor/careless workmanship (none of which are a function of the nature of construction projects (e.g., delays generated by vendors or weather). Both Jake and I took pictures of the below and when I reviewed the issues with Jake, he took extensive notes in addition to the pictures. Additionally, Alan came out and took pictures of many of the issues as well so this information and related pictures should be in Opal’s project file and not subject to debate. Opal only cut three 2" holes for each of the 4x8 soffit vents to cover. As originally cut, the size of the vent holes in the soffit would have resulted in my attic being under vented by more than 50%; I identified this issue myself when returning from work at the end of the day after Opal's crew had already completed the installation of over half the soffit vent covers. If I had not been home prior to the vent covers being installed this issue would not have been corrected (and my roof life would be shortened and heating bills higher in the summer) During this time we had a Certified attic ventilation specialist working on a unrelated matter and they indicated tha inadequate soffit venting would be a significant issue if not corrected. Additionally, several vents needed to be reinstalled as they were crooked.(Jake has pictures) The new fascia along the back of the house was visibly wavy and needed to be replaced. The framing around the garage door was improperly installed and there was an inch and a half bow in it (clearly visible from the street and had to be completely redone). Another contractor doing work on our house, as well as several neighbors, commented on this issue and how bad it looked (Jake took pictures) In removing sconces/light fixtures, two were broken (we were going to replace them anyway, but that doesn’t change the fact). We also spoke with Allen about this issue. (Jake took pictures) Opal initially left the old rusty flashing sticking out from under the new flashing. (Jake took pictures) Despite your delaying the start of the job several weeks to "ensure that measurements were correct" and Alan and Jake taking measurements on three separate occasions Opal under-ordered soffit materials creating several weeks of delay and leaving partial gutters on the house when you left the the job site to wait for the materials to be shipped. When leaving the job site due to lack of materials, the crew left two partial gutter spouts in place that were actually directing water toward the foundation of the house. I discovered this during a heavy rain that evening and had to go out myself to redirect the water to prevent potential property damage; when I informed Jake of the issue Opal came out and "fixed" the issue but ended up directing water into a bush that was then damaged. Jake couldn’t believe the Opal crew had left the gutters that way (I don’t recall if Jake took pictures of this..I believe so). We had moved our electric meter prior to your work and Opal Hardie wrapped over the gap, leaving an uninsulated hole where the old electric meter was and just sided over it (leaving easy access to my basement for small rodents, etc - pictures were emailed to the office before you came out to fix the problem. When you installed the external dryer vent cover, the Opal crew pushed the exhaust tube into the basement and didn’t fix it so my dryer was venting into the basement until we discovered this had happened. When installing the soffits, your team actually covered the external vent tube to our first floor bathroom so it was completely blocked by the soffit material; the crew didn't even realize that they had covered the vent until we told them and had to remove that portion of the soffit just to find it. (I took pictures, not sure if Jake did)

The customers were by far the hardest customers to work for in 10 years of business. We had a bad feeling from the beginning of contract negotiations...and we wish with all of our business hearts that we would have declined this contract. Please take a look at our 3-years-worth of Super Service Awards. We are so very proud of never turning our backs on even the most irrational customer and trying to please their ever growing and changing demands. This family had landscapers working on their house about the same time as we remodeling the exterior of their home with premium James Hardie products. We have always passed out James Hardie audits with flying colors. This family has come up with some very irrational items that we did to their home. We do have photo verification and complete documentation of this project. I am very sorry to have seen out crews verbally abused during this project by the family. CONTRACTORS beware of this family. We all did our best. Their home looks beautiful. We are very proud that we treated this family the best that was allowed by them. You cannot please everyone, and boy did we try!

Very prompt answer to inquiry. Very thorough and personalized attention. Came when they said they would (both for estimates and actual work). Professional appearance and performance. Communicated every step of the way. Went out of their way to give me what I wanted, including some last minute changes on the spot.

We did a lot of research before starting the project. We first started to find only A rated companies on Angies List and then got quotes from all of them. The sales process went well - Dan was our sales person and he did an excellent job, he knew what we were looking for, and has had a lot of experience in the industry. We liked the products that Opal had - they were the right fit for what we were looking for. During the sales process and planning Opal is very up front and they make sure everyone is on the same page with what work will be performed. They quoted everything less than the other estimates we received and some were for the same products. The windows and back door took about 3 days to install - the first 2 days the crew came in and worked on removing the old windows and installing new ones. It was a big project but they worked pretty hard to be as minimally disruptive as possible. They cleaned up pretty well and really knew what they were doing. We are still waiting on the front door - unfortunately the door didn't arrive in time for the installation of the windows, but they were able to reschedule that installation around our schedule. The people at the office have been great to deal with - everyone has been very professional. The end result - we love the new doors and windows installed, everything looks great, they work well, and no more air coming through the windows. I'm very happy we decided to make this investment. I'll be not only using Opal again in the future for other projects, but we'll be recommending to others.

I was extremely pleased with the overall performance and professionalism of this organization. Their supervisor continued the installation during a light rain one day until my roof was covered. My only disapointment was that they did not respond to my request for them to address an oil stain on my front walk caused by their air compressor. They made one attempt to fix it then have not come back when I sent them an email stating that their attemp failed.
Description of Work: Opal did a tear off and replacement of my home's roof. They had to also replace a number of plywood sheets because of the mold their original inspection discovered. I compliment them on the thoroughness of that inspection compared to the other 2 contractors I had bids from for this job.

I am deeply sorry for your poor experience with us on the estimating end. It is our combined goal to ensure our customers have an enriching remodeling experience. It am very sorry to learn we have failed you and your project. I will check with your estimator and learn what happened. I would like to correct this situation if at all possible, but at the very least, please our many reports where our sales estimator has served our valuable homeowners well. Please also accept my sincerely grief that we have let you down. I wish I had been alerted to this situation in t he office sooner and I would have been able to make the needed corrections. After learning more about this situation from both sides, the estimator and the homeowner, I understand there were circumstances that made the estimate mutually hard-coming. Our estimator had a sick daughter, and our valued potential customer had a very strict work schedule. I also learned that out potential customer canceled our final estimate appointment date as he had already chosen another window company. I was dissapointed to learn that this member did not call into the office to make anyone aware of the scheduling conflicts that were occurring between Opal and the member. I would have assigned a new estimator right away to assist with the project. We appreciate all the time invested! Warmly, Tara Opalski"

The workers arrived on time as scheduled and I was pleased with the efficiency and speed of the workers. The workmanship was excellent and they were able to perform the necessary wood repairs which were discovered when the old siding was removed. They finished the work ahead of schedule and did a good job of cleaning up scrap siding, nails, wood and siding pieces from the ground and driveway. Their work got compliments from a neighbor and I am very pleased with the appearance of the house. 1
Description of Work: Opal Industries removed existing vinyl siding, applied Tyvek house wrap and then installed Prodigy vinyl siding(which has an insulation backing which has a R rating of 5.0) They also repaired rotted 2"x12" boards for about 20 feet along the back of the house and some additiona repairs over the garage door to the wood frame. They also replaced plastic shutters on five windows. The workers were very polite and the site manager answered all my questions. The final cost with the wood repairs and replacement shutters was within the estimate offered in the proposal.

The Opal Enterprises team was very professional from start to finish. They were prompt in scheduling an estimate, and provided a very professional and detailed proposal for our project. Eli, the project consultant, was very responsive to all of our questions. The Angie's List coupon was a bit confusing - a $300 coupon is shown under the heading of "Gutter Repair and Replacement", but looking more closely that coupon was only for bigger jobs like full roof replacements. However, Eli still gave us a discount of $100 on our project, and we also took advantage of the 5% discount by paying in full upfront. The overall price, while not the lowest estimate we received, was competitive - especially since they installed an additional downspout that we did not have previously. They recommended adding this additional downspout, as too much water was being drained into only one downspout on the back side of the house. They also pitched the gutters in the front of the house to the left in order to faciliate water runoff to the left side of the garage - we were having an overflow problem in that area with water getting into the basement. The work was performed on time as scheduled and completed in one day. They hauled away the old gutters, and did a good job with the cleanup as well. Overall, we were very impressed with Opal Enterprises, and would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We had all of our gutters and downspouts replaced and also added the Leaf Relief system.

The job as estimated was completed with in the number of days (5). Overall the job was done with perfection and with the highest quality of workmanship.
Description of Work: Opal Enterprises Inc did our siding work to perfection. We had contracted Opal for complete siding replacement and they did a through job from estimation to installation. They have their own professional crew for siding installation compare to storm chasing companies who employ non-professionals. Opal crew was very punctual and detail oriented. We had a very good experience with Opal and recommend they to anyone who needs siding replacement.

Opal was very professional throughout the process. There were 3 pleasurable, low pressure meetings in my home to finalize my choices and the contract. The work began one day before the originally estimated start date. I was not presented with any 'extras'. The crew provided a quality installation. Management checked in frequently. A couple of hiccups as I had expected but nothing major. I received what I wanted for the agreed price, and the end result exceeded my expectations. I recommend Opal.

Got Opal's name from Angie's list. Called them along with other companies. Ryan (sales person) came once to see and then came back with proposal. Although he was thorough in his analysis and his proposal, I didn't like the tactic of a $1000 discount if signed today (even though 3 days to cancel) as I was still doing my homework. I found other companies that were both cheaper and more expensive. The reason, I chose Opal was because Ryan was very responsive in returning calls, and working with me to find alternatives and solutions. Plus, they used All GAF products and were offering a great warranty. No hidden use of alternative products to just reduce the price. The communication channels were frequent and they kept me informed throughout the process of ordering, and scheduling installation. The project manager (Jake) and the foreman (Matt) also paid me a visit and explained the process. The installation date had to be rescheduled once due to weather. On the installation day, the crew was prompt and started working. Unfortunately, it was the hottest week of summer and therefore the crew could only work partial days which extended the install time from 2 days to 4 days. Everyday the crew came on time, worked for 4 hrs or so, and cleaned up before they left. Very decent and professional crew. The couple of issues I had with the install was that I had to check on all the items specified in the scope of work and had to make sure to point it out to ensure completion. It seemed like the foreman didnot have the written copy of what was in the contract. Once I pointed it out, they would take care of it promptly. After the installation, there was some damage to my grass and bush which I am working with them. However, there were some nails exposed on the roof which after showing Jake, he made sure to get Matt back and have it repaired immediately.
Description of Work: Remove and dispose existing roof. Replace any damaged wood. Install weatherwatch ice & water shield, shinglemate underlayment, timberline HD architectural shingles. Also installed 1 new skylight and reflashed existing ones. Replaced mushroom vents with ridge vents in one part of the roof and installed power fan in another part of the roof.

We enjoyed working with Member on his roof project. He is our ideal customer because of his diligent analysis our how we install our roofing systems. Too many roofing contractors want to offer homeowners a price that they think the homeowner wants....but we at Opal Enterprises offer our homeowners the right price that reflects a quality project! We do pride ourselves on the use of brand name roofing components as opposed to cheaper, less quality products. All you can see on your roof, from the ground, are the shingles...but there is much, much more to a roof than the shingles. Thank you for recognizing our efforts for professionalism, responsiveness, and communication. We do want our homeowner to have a pleasant remodeling experience! Ryan, one of our great estimators, spend on average 8 hours with each customer. This 8 hours is a combination of measurement & photos analysis, discussions with the the interested homeowner and putting together a comprehensive proposal that highlights solutions. Ryan offered an optional monetary incentive to Member that he accepted and that we were happy to offer! Because we utilize productions managers, field supervisors and crew leaders, we are able to address all construction concerns that may and often will arise when a project is progress. Thank you for working with us!

It went well. Any glitches/annoyances were not significant. From the first visit to final installation the company was very attentive. I think the price was a bit high, but another quote was similar, and the job was a complete tear-off. Ultimately time will tell regarding quality. The nature of this work is such that I can't be sure if it was great quality or average quality. But I do know that from office staff to installers, they were friendly, professional, seemingly thorough, and they were here when they said they'd be here. I would certainly recommend them for anyone considering this type of job.

Our first contact with Opal was through Harry, our project consultant. Of the 3 roofing contractors we contacted, Opal through Harry was the only one to actually physically come to our house before presenting the estimate. Harry also went up into the attic and took pictures of our roof on the inside as well as outside. Even though the company was moving to new and bigger facilities, Harry quickly prepared and presented a very professional and thorough job estimate. At our meeting with him, he answered all of our questions knowledgeably. Within a week of signing the contract, Jake, the project manager, came to our house along with Pete, our job supervisor, to meet with us personally. The office staff kept us completely informed as to the timetable for our actual job start in a very professional and courteous way. Once the work actually began on our roof, we were very impressed with our supervisor and crew. They were very courteous, professional and extremely hardworking. Their work ethic was obvious and very appreciated. When we did have any questions or concerns, they were addressed almost immediately by the office staff and Jake to our complete satisfaction. Each day the work sight was cleaned up very well, and at the end of the job our landscape was spotless! We now have a beautiful roof that we are proud to display in our neighborhood. We would highly recommend Opal and feel that you could be confident that you would get excellent value for your money.

We had several pre-installation meetings. These appointments were very informative and detailed, always on time and communication with the office was always pleasant. The installation process was not totally stress-free. The wrong door was ordered and we had some disagreements as to whose mistake it was. We also noted several areas where we were not happy with the quality of the finish work and their attention to detail. Jake, our project manager, played an important role in communicating our concerns to the crew. Ultimately, they fixed every area of concern and we are satisfied with the outcome.
Description of Work: We had old aluminum siding removed from 3 sides of our home. New Tyvec wrap was installed and Certainteed Cedar Impressions siding was installed. Old fascia was covered with James Hardie fiber cement. We decided to keep our gutters, downspouts and soffits as they were only a few years old. They were removed and reattached to our satisfaction.
