Description of Work: The entire front door system, including door, storm door, sidelights and transom were replaced. The threshold was also replaced. |Don, the owner, came out twice before the installation. The first appointment was to discuss options. The second was to describe exactly what needed to be done and the exact amount that the project would cost. The original date of installation had to be rescheduled because Don wanted to be there himself since it was a rather large job. The installation went very smoothly and both Don and the other installer left both the inside and outside of my foyer in immaculate condition. It was a long day for both men, but neither left until the installation and clean up were completed.

Description of Work: Replaced 3 2nd story wooden windows and finished the wood to match other wood work. |11/18 was a very cold day but the job was completed with excellent quality, neatness,and consideration. I offered to have the workmen the use of the garage for some warmth, but they refused because they didn't want to make a mess with the sawdust.

Description of Work: I had all of the windows & our patio door replaced in our house. When Don came out he was very punctual and respectful of our time. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He did not try to upsell us. The installers were very clean & professional. I did have a slight concern with the look of one window's caulk & Don came out the same day I called and recaulked every window. He checked all of the windows to ensure they were correct & even found a piece missing that we hadn't even seen and had it taken care of right away. I couldn't have been more pleased with the job they did and would recommend them highly!

 + -1 moreWhen I discovered that the door jams on my 15-year old entry door had rotted beyond repair, I first obtained quotes from two firms that provided me with quotations for supplying and installing the replacement door. I thought that both quotations were outrageously over-priced (especially when one considers the current economic climate). So, I decided to explore the possibility of buying a replacement door from a "home improvement center" and then hiring a contractor to do the installation. I searched Angie's listed and found DVS. When I called DVS, Don returned my call promptly and arranged for a visit to take a look at the existing door. I was immediately impressed with Don's explanation of how he would go about installing the new door and the replacement fascia. He actually took the time to explain the work that needed to be performed (unlike either one of the other two contractors). He also assured me that he would repair any rot below the door that might be encountered during the course of installation. I hired Don to do the installation. The finished installation looks OUTSTANDING! Don is a rarity these days; a craftsman who clearly takes pride in his work. No detail was left undone. He replaced the rotted subfloor beneath the old door and installed a waterproof flashing over the new subfloor (where there was none before). He installed foam insulation around the perimeter of the door (where there was none before). He took his time installing and caulking the fascia and it is PERFECT. Don also went above-and-beyond in several other ways. He helped me through the door selection process when I discovered that my home has a non-standard door opening [even though he wasn't selling me the door itself]. And he offered to modify the rough-opening if required [something that the other contractors would not do]. He was flexible with the door installation date and called me to let me know he could install the door sooner than we had originally agreed [when the home improvement center called to tell me that the door arrived one-week early]. He met me at the home improvement center on the day of the installation to transport the door to my home in his construction trailer [which saved me the home improvement center's delivery charge]. He replaced the existing 2" interior trim with 3.5" trim [which was unplanned]. He drilled a new hole to replace the broken surface-mounted door bell pushbutton [which I should have fixed a long time ago].
Description of Work: DVS installed a 36" front entry door with two 12" skylights that were purchased as a fully-assembled unit from a major home improvement center. DVS also recapped the fascia around the door and capped the door jams & brick molding with aluminum cladding. The price listed above is for installation of the door and cladding only (and also includes the cladding material).

 + -1 moreDon and his helper showed up at the pre-set time and date to do the job. They set their ladders and equipment and went right to work. They had to cut out the old aluminum stops, but ran a vacuum next to the power saw to keep down the dust and debris which we appreciated as our youngest daughter has severe allergies. It was obviously a tough job, but in 8-1/2 hours time the new windows were beautifully installed, all of the old windows and related trash was loaded into their truck and every work area was vacuumed and clean. Don and his helper were professional throughout the entire day. They knew exactly what they were doing and we felt we were in good hands. We actually tipped them at the end of the day! On a side note, we were the lead attraction of the neighborhood for the day and Don ended up replacing windows for two of our neighbors.
Description of Work: We had our 13 year old, leaky aluminum-clad wood windows removed and all new vinyls windows installed on the front of our two story home.

Description of Work: Don communicated very clearly what the expectations were in putting in 12 windows and front door on our colonial style house. The work was done diligently. All windows and door were installed well with good seals. He replaced a rotted board on the front door without extra charge. The door knob I purchased was missing a piece when he opened the package. He was very pleasant about making a trip to the hardware store to correct the error. Don covered the floors and cleaned up both inside and outside when he was done.
